GM Savage Gets Three-Year Extension in Cleveland

General Manager Phil Savage has signed a three-year contract extension with the Cleveland Browns, the team announced today.

The deal runs through the 2012 season.

Savage was hired by the Browns from the Baltimore Ravens' front office in January 2005 and has overseen a rebuilding project that resulted in the club going 10-6 last season and just missing the AFC playoffs.

"I am extremely grateful to [owner] Randy Lerner and the Browns organization for giving me an opportunity as a first-time GM back in January 2005 and now to continue with this extension through the 2012 season," Savage said in a written statement. "We have worked very hard to turn the Browns around, on and off the field, and our team is looking forward to the 2008 season. From a personal standpoint, I want to also thank the many Browns fans who have been so supportive during my time here."
