New Orleans to Bid to Host 2013 Super Bowl
New Orleans reportedly will bid to host the Super Bowl in 2013.
The city has hosted nine Super Bowls, but none since 2002.
The longterm future of the Saints franchise was put in question when Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, but team owner Tom Benson told the New Orleans Times Picayune that he's in favor of a bid for the 2013 game.
The owners last week awarded the 2012 Super Bowl to Indianapolis.
"Listen, I'm all for it," Benson told the Times-Picayune. "I tried to get them to bid on 2012 but they wouldn't do it. We've got to work out with the state to get an extension to our lease. A longterm lease is what we prefer. But I think we're working on it. I feel good about it.
"I think we can get that together and we'll get the Super Bowl in 2013."
