Burress, Shockey Not Practicing At Giants' Minicamp

The New York Giants opened a minicamp today, and defensive end Michael Strahan's retirement was all but forgotten because there were plenty of new issues for the defending Super Bowl champions.

Wide receiver Plaxico Burress and tight end Jeremy Shockey showed up but didn't practice.

Burress told reporters that he didn't practice because he wants a new contract. Agent Drew Rosenhaus has been negotiating with the team but hasn't completed a deal yet, and a training camp holdout by Burress appears to be a possibility if there's no agreement by then.

Shockey, another Rosenhaus client, has had a turbulent offseason in which he's been the subject of plenty of trade speculation. Shockey spoke to reporters last weekend and left open the possibility of skipping the minicamp. He was on hand for the proceedings but apparently spent his time rehabilitating his leg injury from last season rather than practicing.
