C. Benson Clears Waivers

No NFL team wants tailback Cedric Benson at the moment.

No club put in a waiver claim on Benson, the former first-round draft choice who was waived by the Chicago Bears after he was arrested twice on alcohol-related charges in a little more than a month.

Benson now becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Claiming Benson would have obligated a team to inherit a contract that was to pay him $890,000 next season, plus possible incentives. Now any club interested in signing Benson can negotiate a new deal with him.

The Bears waived Benson this week after he was arrested on a drunk driving charge last weekend. He had been arrested a little more than a month earlier and charged with boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest. He has denied the charges in both incidents.
