C. Simms Tells Newspapers He's At Odds With Gruden
Quarterback Chris Simms remains on the Buccaneers' roster but told Tampa-area newspapers that his relationship with Coach Jon Gruden is "totally broken" and cannot be repaired.
Simms indicated he has asked the Buccaneers to trade or release him.
Simms had his 2006 season ended by a ruptured spleen suffered during a game that required emergency surgery and he spent most of last season on the injured reserve list.
In comments to two newspapers, Simms said Gruden expressed skepticism last summer about the severity of Simms's injury.
"I do believe that he thought I might be faking it," Simms told the Tampa Tribune. "I mean, he asked me, 'Is it in your head?' For him to say that, that's just not right. There are just a lot of things that I can never forgive him for."
Simms made similar comments to the St. Petersburg Times.
