Simms Not At Bucs' Minicamp

Quarterback Chris Simms did not attend the opening day of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' three-day minicamp today.

Simms reportedly has asked the team to release him and recently told two Tampa-area newspapers that his relationship with Buccaneers Coach Jon Gruden cannot be repaired. Simms said that Gruden last year questioned the severity of the spleen injury suffered by Simms the previous season, when he underwent emergency surgery.

According to the Associated Press, Gruden told reporters today: "He said what he said. I don't agree with all the things he said. I can only comment on the guys who are here working. His situation will take care of itself."
