Key NFL Question No. 1: Will Favre Play?

It's the lull before training camps open, so we'll spend the next few weeks examining some of the more intriguing questions about the league and the upcoming season. I'll offer a viewpoint, and you guys can post your thoughts if you like...

To start:

Will Brett Favre play this season?

My thoughts:

No one should be shocked if he plays. Anyone who watched his retirement press conference heard him say that he knows he can still play.

But he also said during that tearful farewell that he doesn't want to play. He sat in front of a national television audience and said his goodbye, and it would be awkward to change course now. The Packers don't seem all that eager to have him back, and they undoubtedly would be reluctant to release him and risk him signing with a rival.

I still think there's less than a 50 percent chance that he'll play. Slightly less, but still less.

I'm getting tired of Brett Favre. He needs to grow up and move on. Enough already!

Everything I have heard is speculation. Farve has not said publicly that he wants to come back. The media is doing all the talk.

Why be a Farve hater because everyone likes to talk about him?

As long as Favre doesnt go to Tampa, it doesnt matter to me. If Favre goes to play for the Genius Gruden, I will lose all respect for Favre.

How about 49ers ? they are an improving team, and could use a veteran QB.

Another possibilty : since McNabb is probably gone from Eagles after this year, Favre sits out 2008 and plays for Eagles in 2009

I think the media needs to stop this speculation about whether he or won't come back. It is very annoying to have this rehashed. He retired. I'm sure he probably thinks about playing, but until something official or concrete happens (not some crazy speculation), this story just needs to be dropped.

He shouldn't come back.....he'll ruin his image. Just stay retired like Marino, Kelly, Elway and Aikman.....That's a class of classy QB's...and he's in that class.
Hopefully he just stays retired......just look at what happened to Emmitt Smith when he was done (but decided to go to Arizona) He ruined his image there....please don't do the same Brett! Please!
