Ravens, Flacco Have Tentative Deal

Rookie quarterback Joe Flacco tentatively has agreed to a five-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens, a person familiar with the negotiations said.

The deal includes $8.75 million in guaranteed money and potentially could be worth as much as $30 million, said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the agreement was not to be announced until the final details were completed.

The Ravens chose Flacco with the 18th overall selection in the NFL draft in April, and the Delaware product likely will be given a chance to compete with Kyle Boller and Troy Smith for the team's starting job.

Barring any last-minute snags, the deal will get Flacco to training camp on time. Flacco would become the fourth player drafted in the first round in April to sign a contract following offensive tackle Jake Long with the Miami Dolphins, quarterback Matt Ryan with the Atlanta Falcons and tailback Darren McFadden with the Oakland Raiders.

The Dolphins completed a deal with Long before using the top overall pick in the draft on him. The Falcons signed Ryan, the third overall choice, in late May and the Raiders signed McFadden, the fourth selection, in early June.

Ryan and Flacco were the only two quarterbacks drafted in the first round.
