Off the Beaten Path
I went to college in ‘97, back when the internet was just going mainstream. In keeping with the times, my high school buddies and I set up a listserv to keep in touch. But some time between that British baby-shaking nanny and Mark McGuire’s “transformation” it degenerated from a bulletin board on college life to a forum for posting wacky news. After all, who cares about history electives when episodes of Pokemon are giving Japanese kids seizures?
Over the next 9 years we spent way too much time hunting funny articles in an attempt to outdo the previous entries. We chatted about the big news of the day too, but strange news always provoked the most memorable conversations.
It is this fascination for jaw dropping journalism that led me to start “OFF/beat”. Each day I scour the far reaches of cyberspace to find the oddest news from around the world. And, since half the fun of an incredible story is hearing people’s reactions, I encourage you to comment on the entries and even post your own. Seen a bear riding a bike? Send me the picture. Does your dog have a higher credit score than you? Let me know. Was the head of your school’s PTA caught moonlighting at Hooters? Let’s get wings!
Funny news is everyone’s guilty pleasure, and so the goal of “OFF/beat” is to create a shared repository for anyone who wants a quick laugh at work or a memorable story for happy hour.

You may have gone to college, but obviously you skipped remedial reading. It's defecation you moron - not deification. Some editing team you have there.

Thanks for adding essential levity to the day! I've added OFF/beat to my favorites, and recommended it in my blog about blogging, I Blog For You. http://iblog4you.blogspot.com
