Bush Gropes German Chancellor?
Apparently President Bush's use of the s-word was not the most inappropriate thing he did at last weekend's G-8 Conference in St. Petersburg. Video footage has surfaced and circulated YouTube which appears to show our Commander and Chief groping German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Though the two share similar viewpoints on many issue, it seems from her reaction that they may not see eye-to-eye on public massage.

There was someone out there speading the idea that he was trying to get a peek of her laptop screen. I say that is complete BS. If he lived in Texas all that time and barely knows Spanish, I highly doubt he knows German.
Plus, it is pretty clear he is just trying to make her feel less superior to him. This has happened to me in the workplace. I could only guess how much Condi has to put up with.
After these embarrasing displays at the G8, it is pretty safe to say that this man is a megalomaniac.

I think this was the equivalent of a good ol' boy slap on the back to show he was her buddy. It misfired due to the setting and her culture and gender.
One could argue that Bush should have been sensitive to all this, but come on, we all know that Bush is missing more than a few sensitivity chips. (Okay, I stole the term "sensitivity chip" from a Jennifer Aniston quote about Brad Pitt, but it works here.)
Luckily, we (the USofA) have a democracy (like Iraq and one day soon Russia) and can discuss everything in public forums and without fear of being monitored or anything undemocratic like that. (Did that sound sarcastic? If it didn't, then you too could become a Fox News reporter.)

Not good behavior for a Christian...swearing and groping.

It'll be a great day when the good ol' boys are out of office.
Look at the German chancellor's body language. Our president is physically harrassing (molesting?) her and no one other than she has a problem with that?
I'll wager that every woman who's ever been touched inappropriately by a man cringes when she looks at that photo.
George would never do that to PM Blair.
President Bush simply has no clue about how to behave here at home or abroad or anywhere, it seems, outside of his base.
What an embarrassment.

It just shows that Bush acts like a 12 yo playing adult. Perhaps all heads of state should now give each other the "official" Bush greeting when they have these world conferences. I'm sure that would be the kindest tribute to Bush's contribution to world affairs. As Bugs Bunny would say, "What a maroon."

Would someone please explain the importance of the G-8, anyway? It seems that the most conspicuous signs of activity there relate to the jokes, pranks, and personal behavior of the leaders thereat assembled.
The media should provide better coverage of the serious issues that one imagines were debated there. If any, that is, there were.
Perhaps if world coverage of the summit was more serious in nature, fewer people would treat it as an informal vacation.

Its when the most powerful leaders in da world get together for hands-on, uncensored diplomacy

Bush is by far the most asinine dolt that the foolish right wing has anointed to date. This country is a laughing stock to the rest of the world because of him. The sooner that illiterate jackass is out of office, the better!

What I find fascinating is that the major news media have, so far, skittishly danced around the story that Bush groped a female head of state. Compare this, say, to the media uproar of the 1990s when Bill Clinton answered a question about "boxers or briefs?" and was castiagted by the cocktail-party journalists of Washington.

Remember your darling? Bill (adulterer) Clinton. I wished the President had not done this for several reasons. One being it was bad taste. Secondly, you people are desperate to get something on our President. We who identify with the right did not have to become desperate with our dealings with your darling. His immorality was always before us because of his faithfulness to immorality.By the way our President has done this before and means nothing by it. Stop tuning in to your heroes on MTV.

Immorality? What could be more immoral than sending our soldiers to war to die for a lie? As the previous post stated, groping and swearing are not very Christian attributes. Or the bumper sticker...When Clinton lied, nobody died.

The fact that Bush is not finding himself forced to give Merkel a public apology is more testament to how ingrained sexism still is in our society. Merkel is the leader of one of the most powerful nations in the world and Bush treats her like she's the ditzy secretary come to take the meeting minutes. And what happens to him? Nothing. It's disgusting.
Posted by: Tedi Trindle | July 21, 2006 2:24 PM
He didn't grope her. It wasn't about superiority. There is no public apology needed. I can't believe what a big deal people are making about this. He was being informal with her. Same as he is with her male counterparts in other countries. I am no fan of President Bush, but for a change it's nice to see him friendly with other world leaders. Come on people. Relax a little and have a sense of humor.
Posted by: suzanne | July 21, 2006 3:49 PM
This is not humor, outright sexist behavior. You don't give a back rob to just any acquaintance leave alone to the head of a state in a G-8 meeting. I don't know what made bush do this... I wonder if there was any alcohol involved. I knew bush is stupid, but this is outright moronic.
Posted by: Smita | July 21, 2006 5:01 PM
I don't think it was sexist. And I wouldn't be so sure Blair hasn't already been the recipient of even more intimate gestures from Bush.

Once again our fearless leader has embarrassed the United States and its people. The only thing more ignorant than Bush's actions are the mental midgets that keep trying to make excuses for his actions. You just have to listen to the man speak to know he cannot use the english language. Shame on the ignorant, uneducated people who put him into office a second time. Shame on you for voting in a "leader" who has humiliated America internationally as well as domestically. You should all lose your right to vote. Bush is a reflection of those that put him into office and their mentality. Go polish your guns, read your Bible, and live your life in fear, because that's what Republicans do best. We have to get them before they get us, right? God knows Saddam would be on America's shores tomorrow if we didn't take our military half way around the world to "defend freedom." Backwards inbreds. Turn off Pat Robertson and open a book. Get an education and stop buying into so much nauseating propaganda.
Bush's actions are typical of a self-agrandizing bully superpower leader whose ethnocentrism exudes his character. Merkel is a respected world leader of a country whose actually got itself together. The United States could learn a lot from countries like Germany. Bush's lack of proper diction and hillbilly behavior is a reflection of this country's diplomacy (as well as how we treat our own citizens-Katrina) and not what we say we represent. This is not the vision of America I grew up to know, love, and respect. Is it yours?
People with a brain, and a conscience, unite-take this country back from old frat boy facists like Bush.
PS: Bush keeps saying he is protecting us from terrorists, but where's Osama. Quit fraternizing and DO YOUR JOB, Cokehead Lush!!! ALL TALK AND NO ACTION!!! Just like Bush's "military" record.

It's pretty hard to believe this happened. How ever did we end up with such a dolt for a president? I keep looking for a rock to crawl under I am so ashamed this man in control of the nation. How could anyone vote for this man?

Oh, come now, Clinton was charged with sexual harassment, not to mention actual rape, by numerous women. Some people are very selective in their outrage. Where were these people when Juanita Broderick made her charges?
And Bush kissed Joe Liberman for God's sake. He's obviously a demonstrative guy, like it or not.
Posted by: CJ | July 23, 2006 5:41 AM
Bush snould apoligize for groping? No, the American voters should apologize for electing him president.
Posted by: Arcadian | July 26, 2006 7:33 AM
Yes Clinton was wrong also. However his actions were behind closed doors until the neo-cons brought it to light. Bush is a very poor representative of the U.S.
Bush has done more to hurt the Republican party more than Nixon ever could.

So where's the friggin' news?.
Bush is a retard. He is mentally challenged. Drugs & alcohol do that to you. He can't pronounce words, he makes up others, he picks his nose, he struts around like a chimp. I'm talkin' zero-class trailer dweller.
Which would probably have been his true destiny if not for daddy's impressive job.
I'm just glad he didn't grab her boobs because the last time around it took us AND eight other countries a full 5 years to defeat those pissed-off krauts.
And I'm not really sure we could do it again.
