Christian Clown Busted For Kiddie Porn
As if Coulrophobics didn't have enough to worry about! An Illinois "Christian clown" has been charged with possession of child pornography and sex tourism stemming from a trip to a Filipino orphanage. After several months of investigation A. Paul Carlock Jr., who performs under the name Klutzo, was arrested Tuesday at his home in Springfield.
The 57-year-old former law enforcement officer and juvenile councilor, was originally detained on June 11 at San Francisco International Airport while returning from the Philippines, where he says he performed at an orphanage called House of Joy. A routine inspection of his digital camera and phone uncovered a variety of images of naked pre-teen boys, according to his arrest report. When questioned about the images, Carlock reportedly told officers, "That's how they live."
Lifestyles aside, three of the boys featured in the photographs later gave sworn statements that Carlock came into their rooms at night and fondled their genitals. They further asserted that he sneaked out when they woke up. Those statements lead to a search warrant, which was executed on Sept. 28 and which uncovered at least "21 movies on six compact discs that contain child pornography," according to the affidavit.
For the past 10 years Carlock and his wife, who goes by the stage name Smilee, have been "clowning" for youngsters at orphanages across the world. According to their website, they "are available for vacation Bible schools, children's crusades, Sunday school, children's church, church parties... and more [which] can be used to present the gospel of Jesus Christ to your children." It also states that Klutzo is "an ordained minister (formerly with the Church of the Nazarene, currently with the Missionary Church International)."
The Peoria Journal Star is reporting that in December 1986, Carlock wrote a letter to the State Journal-Register on the dangers of pornography. In that letter he calls himself a "Christian Conservative" and 16-year veteran of law enforcement. His complaint was over a cartoon which he referred to as "smut."
Ironically he then wrote: "I have spoken with victims and offenders and have read many case histories in which pornographic materials played an overwhelming role in the events that have left lives shattered and homes broken." Now it appears he may be adding to that body of evidence as he is under arrest and reportedly divorcing his wife.

another repressed pervert. Maybe him and Craig can share a cell

I hope he brings his clowning costume to prison. The other inmates will find it funny when he becomes another guy's play thing!

(there are millions and millions of them!)

Craig is a hypocrite and a twerp, but there is a world of difference between a doofus offering to blow adult men in airport bathrooms, and child molestation.

This is topnotch reporting, although I feel I have to make a stand for the real victims of this story.
What about all the good christians of the world that must constantly question why God infiltrates their ranks with homosexuals and pedophiles despite His known repudiation of sodomy? Our hearts and prayers should go out to the good christian soldiers that have to suffer the indignation of omnipresent sexual perversion within their own flock. Amen.

He is a disgusting human being who used his position to abuse children. I'm not in favor of the death penalty but people like this tempt me.

My prayers go out to the family. Sometimes, the ones closest to home suffer the most in these kinds of situations.

No I think the people who suffered the most in this were the little boys he molested. Lets try and keep some perspective people.

"... although I feel I have to make a stand for the real victims of this story. ..."
sorry but the -real- victims are the children... not the curb appeal of a religion...
these sick perverts need to be put away for life...

I'm pretty sure that was meant to be sarcastic.

Again, I say we need some published statistics on where the majority of "sins" and perversions in our society come from: the so-called "Christian" right or the so-called "godless" liberal left?
Conservatives seem to think they have superior values and morals and their "focus on the family" protects society from drug abuse, sexual predators, divorce, murder, etc. I want to see some statistics supporting their claims.
It seems to me that all the recent scandals have come from the Righteous Right. Am I wrong?

What a sad world we live in. People do such hideous things while hiding behind religion.

He's divorcing his wife? The pronouns seem a little mixed up, given the situation.

Well, if what they say is true in all those prison documentaries on MSNBC then this "clown" is in for some severe reckoning. An ex-cop and pedophile to boot = Death by shanking or 24/7 solitary confinement. Not exactly the choice I want to make in life.

???
by whom?
Posted by: yaya | October 11, 2007 1:34 PM
@ yaya, I didn't think airport security could just look at your photos either but apparently when you come back from a country at high risk for child pornography they can. Seems pretty illegal to me, but I guess theres a reason they do it. To catch disgusting clowns

I think every person who is a white christian male over 30 should be racially profiled when entering the country. I mean come on, he had a camera! That is cause enough, right.
I love our nanny state. Its so great that republicans do not want bigger government controlling every part of our lives.

First I want to say that I am not his judge and he has not been convicted. But the point I want to make is that child molesters are closer than you think. When was the last time you sat down with your children and talk to them about the wrong kind of touch? Have you? As a victim I know first hand the life changeing afects it has on a child. What I do NOT understand is why parents do not comunicate with their children. Molesters can be people you trust and if your child is not told that it is wrong, they may believe the lies this person tells them. The man who molested me was a trusted friend of the family, was always kind, gave us gifts and was our babysitter. I would pretend that I was asleep untill it hurt and then he would tell me how much he cared about me and would never hurt me - I do not know why I never told my parents - they never asked me. Now I have my own children and I make sure they know that NO ONE is to touch them that way. PLEASE TALK TO YOUR KIDS TODAY!

Its always the men who want to be closest to children that turn out be the perverts. The best screening for such positions should be to hire only those are not interested in such positions.

I was a clown in Springfield, IL about 4 years ago, and I knew this thing some may call a person. It is sad to say that this pethetic person has given a BAD NAME to clowns everywhere. Thanks alot! My prayers go out the victims and their families, because NO CHILD should EVER EVER have to go through this. May your new cell mate have you blow a balloon up for them.

Way to go Klutzo! Keep establishing that Christian Brand. You know, sanctimonious hypocrites. Just add 'Christian' in front of any service or product and you can be sure that there will be no drugs, prostitution, public or private homosexuality or child abuse. Guaranteed by the good book. But wait, you protest that not all christians are like that? Thatwhen they give money in their churches it doesn't go to support, hide and protect drug taking, child-molesting, wh*re-mongering closeted gays? Gee, tell that to the Muslims who are jailed by the 'christian' Bush because, you know, we're not going to wait around for those things to happen, we're going to go get them first. WWJD? Huh?

Unfortunatly, the ignorance about true christianity allows for fellows like these, all the way up to senators and congressmen, and beyond, to claim membership in christendom. It means nothing. A man expresses himself through his fruits.... that's it. What the tribe or pride or school thinks also allows for weird behavior. We as a nation have become just like the rest ot the world, hopelessly ensconsed in a totem of behavior which has no resemblance to anything spiritual, but regretably, religion is the pirates cave of undesirable behavior. Our president himself is the prime example of this: against abortion but for execution and war; finding good in the imperial heirarchy of CEO's and dictators, but having NO compassion for the poor; demanding
alliegence to law for the populous but placing himself above it, including lying all the time. So his fruits do not make him a christian, only his lying mouth, the tongue, and I have to point out that bush is really the King of Springfield, Krusty the Klown as well as the other KKK leader, but who is heaping praise on the failed leadership? The diety warned us against having a king and they did it anyway... so there are consequences.... the same with blood lust..'vengence is mine, sayeth the lord'. Also this fascination and addiction to economic genocide has been popular for the last hundred years, and hitler felt he surpassed the kingdom of god with his 1,000 year reign, which is the church George kneels at. Hitler lasted about 13 years, and the current one wont make 8, one hopes.....

The percentage of "Christians" in our prisons is much, much higher as a percentage of their number in the US population than Atheists are compared to their percentage of the population.
Christian morals:
Intolerance:
Persecution of the Pagans:
Charlemagne in 782 had 4500 Saxons, unwilling to convert to Christianity, beheaded.
Peasants of Steding (Germany) unwilling to pay suffocating church taxes: between 5,000 and 11,000 men, women and children slain 5/27/1234 near Altenesch Germany.
Christian English troops "pacified and civilized" Ireland, killed tens of thousands of Irish. Humphrey Gilbert, the half-brother of Sir Walter Raleigh, ordered that "the heddes of all those (of what sort soever thei were) which were killed in the daie, should be cutte off from their bodies... and should bee laied on the ground by eche side of the waie" because they didn't "have knowledge" of the Christian god.
Persecution of other Christians
The 30 Years War
The Crusades 1095-1291 - aproximite total killed - 700,000
The Borgia Pope, Alexander VI and family -incest, adultery, murder, and scandal
Witchburning - a time honored favorite in Europe and America.
The Inquisitions
Missionaries: The forced destruction of native societies throughout the Pacific Basin and the Americas.
Anti-Semitism: Starting before the 4th and 5th centuries synagogues were burned by Christians.Number of Jews slain unknown.
In the middle of the fourth century the first synagogue was destroyed on command of bishop Innocentius of Dertona in Northern Italy. The first synagogue known to have been burned down was near the river Euphrat, on command of the bishop of Kallinikon in the year 388.
Council of Toledo: Jews were enslaved, their property confiscated, and their children forcibly baptized.
1010 The Bishop of Limoges (France) had the cities' Jews, who would not convert to Christianity, expelled or killed.
1096 First Crusade: Thousands of Jews slaughtered, maybe 12.000 total. Places: Worms 5/18/1096, Mainz 5/27/1096 (1100 persons), Cologne, Neuss, Altenahr, Wevelinghoven, Xanten, Moers, Dortmund, Kerpen, Trier, Metz, Regensburg, Prag and others (All locations Germany except Metz/France, Prag/Czech)
1147 Second Crusade: Jews were slain in Ham, Sully, Carentan, and Rameru (all locations in France).
1189/90 Third Crusade: English Jewish communities sacked.
1235, Fulda/Germany: Jewish men and women slain.
1257, 1267: Jewish communities of London, Canterbury, Northampton, Lincoln, Cambridge, and others exterminated.
1290 Bohemia (Poland)10,000 Jews killed.
1337 Starting in Deggendorf/Germany a Jew-killing craze reaches 51 towns in Bavaria, Austria, Poland.
1348 All Jews of Basel/Switzerland and Strasbourg/France burned.
1349 In more than 350 towns in Germany all Jews murdered, mostly burned alive
1389 Prague, Austria - 3,000 Jews were slaughtered.
1391 Seville's Jews killed (Archbishop Martinez leading). 4,000 were slain, 25,000 sold as slaves. Identification of Jews made easy by the brightly colored "badges of shame" that all Jews above the age of ten had been forced to wear. (Wonder where Hitler got the Idea?)
1492 In the year Columbus set sail to conquer a New World, more than 150,000 Jews were expelled from Spain, many died on their way: 6/30/1492.
1648 Chmielnitzki massacres: In Poland about 200,000 Jews were slain.
Catholic extermination camps: Nazi extermination camps in World War II were not the only ones in Europe at the time. In Croatia during the years 1942-1943 Catholic Ustasha ran numerous extermination camps, run by under their dictator Ante PaveliƧ, a practicing Catholic and confident to the then pope, Pope Pius XII, aka "Hitler's Pope".
Rwanda Massacres
1994 - Anglican and Catholic clergy actively involved in the 1994 Rwanda massacres.
The above is only a partial listing.
The Pope's refusal to allow condoms (Bush 43 too by denying US aid) in AIDs infested Africa is genocide.
"Christian" morality?

Ha ha ha ha ha! That's all. ANother neo-con shows his true colors.

It is difficult to believe that professing to be a Christian could fool anyone about a person's true intentions. Surely a "Christian" President of the United States who attacked another country, sacrificed many American troops, and then planned to veto a bill that would provide health insurance for poor children for cost reasons would be seen as less than Christian. Wouldn't he?
Of course he wouldn't. This intellectually lacking frat boy needs only to claim he communes with God in order to get elected and re-elected by the Christians of the U.S.
I am no expert, but the Christ I picture is not someone who would approve of killing people for oil, despoiling the earth for material progress, and favoring the rich at every opportunity. Then again, I am neither a preacher nor a Christian clown.

The ways of evil are many. And all their consequences numberless, for the very touch of evil generates dozens of other evil deeds. This is so, irrespective of the names evil goes slicking around.
So, let us stop talking as if evil is a monopoly of any one group. Let us desist from pillorizing any group because some of its members turn out to be slavering wolfs in sheep (or clownish) costumes. Segregate them without dividing the rest or you yourself becomes an instrument of evil. For there are already too few who work in the vineyard of the good, why decimate them further by unwarranted tarring?
But there is reason to tar governments that allow (if not encourage albeit sub rosa) evil-doers to roam the world. Such governments can not plead ignorance since it is their duty to know the ways of evil that their populace must contend with. It is time to go beyond categorizing governments as to sheer economic indicators, as to political forms, as to corruption, or as to religious bent. Let us also categorize them as to the level of protection accorded their people in such matters as sexual exploitationS, of safeguarding their youth against depravities.
The Philippines, cited in this news report, for instance, claims fo be "the only Christian nation in Asia" (for little valid reasons that the world can see). Is it? Where will it be placed in the proposed new category, on a scale of 0 to 10 where zero stands for nil protection of the citizenry and 10 for top protection?
Jose Rizal, the Philippine national hero, wrote two historic novels for the purpose of "exposing the evils" plaguing the country. Purportedly, to shame people--the Filipinos and the rest of mankind--into doing something about the plight of the exploited natives.
Shame should be a potent weapon (a vaccine?) against social evils. Police and such will never suffice.

The problem with this article is that it does not help us to develop the sense of humor one must have to be able to understand Justice Thomas, Larry Craig, and now, Klutzo, the Christian Clown. We must ask ourselves what these right wing, hypocritical perverts really want from the rest of us. Then, we must wonder if Jesus would approve of their peculiar ways of demanding our attention. As a retired catholic, I realize that institutions sometimes attract all sorts of people one would never invite over to the house...(What about the neighbor's kids ?) However, perversion being a growth industry in terms of our current reigning political 'leadership',at least in terms of the formulation and execution of Foreign Policy , I wonder if it is 'moral' to develop a sense of the hilarious over the entertainment value of everyone from the 'president' to these comedian perverts...What a bunch of cards these guys are ! And may God continue to bless America !

I have known both Paul and his wonderful wife, Mary (Klutzo and Smilee, and served with them in the same church for many years. For those of you who cannot make this claim, how dare you make light of what is a completely traumatizing situation for not only his wife, but also those of us who worship with him, have heard his phenomenal sermons, and seen him in full clown regalia along with his wife entertaining children with magic tricks that reveal a truly Christian message. We are all suffering from shock of recent days occurrences, and feel that there must be some other explanation. We are all reeling from these events, and would appreciate all of the smart aleck comments stop immediately. Your fun and games are doing nothing more than hurting those of us trying to understand where this beautiful, wonderful, caring, talented, and highly intelligent man went wrong. He and Mary have played with and cherished each one of my grandchildren from birth. They cried when the children moved earlier this year, and rejoiced when they returned recently. While I do not condone, and would be the first to condemn a pedophile, I am waiting for the absolute truth to come out and will withhold my judgment until that day arrives.
My suggestion is that you go online to view the House of Joy website (you can find it by googling "house of joy") and see the children, the conditions, and understand that to skinny dip there is, in fact the way things are done there. Paul has given his time, his money, and his talents both as a Christian clown and as a good and decent human being to brighten the lives of these children. He is not the cunning, rotten person as those of you who do not know him seem to think.
I'm sure that all of his friends, church family, and his family members would greatly appreciate it if the snide, crude, and cruel comments would cease and desist immediately - if for nothing more than out of respect for those of us trying to come to grips with all that has happened and that will happen.

It is sad that so man people feel compelled to condemn people by what is shown only in the press. I have grown up with Mary, my first cousin and have known Paul since they were married 19 years ago. He is an eccentric person, but not a child molestor. I think everyone should jump off their little bandwagon and reflect on how we supposedly believe a person is "innocent until proven guilty". I do not condone his having child pornography and he should be punished if this is proven to be true; however, I do not believe Paul is a pedophile. You people all make me sick.
Posted by: Relative of Mary | October 17, 2007 4:30 PM
Wow, those friends and relatives of klutzo are in denial and lashing out at people who do not possess child pornography--hello?
I remember when the BTK serial killer was caught and his pastor went on about what a great member of the church he was. Bit of a reality problem there.
The kind of hypocracy it takes to live a life like this is breathtaking, and sadly it gives athiests an excuse to make generalizations about christianity. I mean, when someone has to trot out the crusades, the agenda is clearly way ahead of the facts.

Wow....this is pretty crazy. I am a 16-year old Eagle Scout from mid-Illinois and I called this guy to be a merit badge counselor for me and a couple of friends. This was around late June of this year. I talked to him over the phone a time or two and ironically enough, I thought he seemed like a really nice guy. We set a meeting sometime in mid-July, which was set to be at MY HOUSE....I gave him directions to my house over the phone. Weirdly enough, he did not show for the meeting and then a month or so later, I read the front page of the State-Journal Register and see that he was arrested for child pornography....I am still stunned from this incident and I know that God was watching over me....I cannot believe a guy like that had my address and nothing happened.
