Judge Roy Pearson Fired, Pants Appeal Still Pending

Is There Finally Justice in the $54 Million Pants Suit?

Judge Roy L. Pearson Jr. loses yet again (AP)

Administrative Court Judge Roy L. Pearson Jr. officially lost his job Tuesday. Washington, D.C.'s Office of Administrative Hearings panel voted last week against reappointing him to a 10-year term, and sent him a seven-page letter informing him.

It's impossible to know whether his termination would have happened had Pearson not filed his ludicrous lawsuit at the exact time when the panel was reviewing his reappointment. Still, the panel's action speaks louder than any speculation.

Nevertheless, I find myself wondering if justice has been served. Pearson, whose appeal of the suit is expected to drag into 2008, has lost his job, but the Chungs, Jin and Soo, have lost their business, their faith in America's legal system and many, many hours of sleep.

What a jerk. He cost these poor people $100,000 in legal fees and drove them out of business.
This doesn't even come close to Karmic retribution. He'll probably sign a book deal for twice as much as he's lost.

no he needs to be disbarred immediately if not sooner

Posted by: | November 1, 2007 11:01 AM

The guy was obviously a racist. He used his position to chase out a family of a race other thn his own.If this was about the sign of "customer satisfaction guaranteed, a lot of other businesses would be shut too. He should go on trial for civil rights violations.

Posted by: EX-NOVa | November 1, 2007 12:35 PM

The Chungs should counter sure for everything he has or may ever receive. He destroyed their business, their lives and their American dream. As for a book deal, I doubt he has anything to say worth hearing much less buying a book for!

Anybody taking bets on when this idiot files suit against the DC goverment for wrongful termination?

He can't win, but the DC government will pay him mega-bucks to settle and go away.

Posted by: SoMD | November 1, 2007 1:06 PM

Ex Nova, where do you get your racism charge? I guess you must have been joking.

Anyways, I really believe that just disbarment is not punishment enough. Assuming we really do know all the details, a good judge in this pants case would order him to pay all of the Chung's legal fees on top of dismissing the suit. Pearson is a real bastage. Let us expeectantly look forward to such a conclusion.

This man is an obvious racist. A black man attacking a Korean family with such vengeance is another version of the Rodney King riots when blacks attacked and destroyed Korean business. I am Asian and I have been taunted and abused by only ONE race in the U.S.: Blacks. Someone needs to help the Chungs file a hate crime lawsuit against this man and ask for reparations. Because the ASian community is so freaking servile and demure, this kind of racism goes unnoticed and underreported. SPEAK UP, Asians. The Chungs should NOT go back to Korea--that only gives more power to black racists.

Wat does race have to do with some one being an idiot. Pearson is just an mean and unhappy person. Dooshbaggery is colorblind

Posted by: | November 1, 2007 9:38 PM

How about the fact that suing people drives a large part of our economy. We may hate lawyers but they pay a lot of taxes and there are times when suing is very necessary. Pearson didnt break the law he just bent it to his advantage. Blame the legislature not the litigant.

What took them so long? At least partial justice has been served but I wonder why he wasn't fired earlier after he was videotaped smoking crack in the courthouse bathroom. Or how about having a sexual affair with his son's girlfriend after he got her a job at the courthouse.

Plenty of good reasons to disbar this pig immediately. His actions are so ludacris, I'd bet his family can't stand him and if they still do, it's only because they are too stupid to realize what he's done or so ignorant that they hang onto him thinking he's going to get 50+ million. Enjoy the rest of your sad life Roy, your party is over and so are your days of milking the system.

YOUR A SCUMBAG PIG ROY AND YOU DESERVE A LIFETIME OF PAIN, LONLINESS AND SUFFERING!

Toy Pearson is joke

Posted by: Vince | November 2, 2007 2:35 PM

How can this not be racist? It's a black judge who is very anti-Asian and clearly not afraid to express it. Why are folks so afraid to talk about something like this?

Posted by: up ndown | November 3, 2007 9:51 AM

"up ndown" - the answer to your question is obvious. People are afraid to talk because only white people are racist. Blacks are perfect and incapable of being racists. Just ask them, they will tell you so.

Posted by: | November 5, 2007 8:06 AM

What? I thought he was fired long time ago..

Posted by: unknown | November 5, 2007 6:59 PM

yes, i don't think this is some covert racism of blacks against Koreans playing itself out. This is just one major A*HOLE picking on an easy target -- immigrants who don't speak English and likely have little means to defend themselves. Ex-Nova and others, don't make this out to be bigger than it already is. (I'm Asian-American by the way, if that matters to anyone).

He used his position to bully people weaker than he is, and it's despicable. He's was a judge, no less, which makes it much much worse. He probably saw this as some get-rich quick scheme and they'd settle quietly and he'd be several 10's of $1000's richer. But this guy deserves all the hate mail and bad karma he gets, and more, making himself out to look like a victim wronged like no one else has before history (read his statements). He put a hardworking couple out of business and shattered their hopes. You, Mr. Pearson, are an ugly stain on America. Shame on you.

This is just another comment on the sad shape America's in, because of disgusting people like Pearson.
Add to the fact also that there are disgusting, greedy lawyers that have no shame, and are willing to take stupid cases like this.
And who gets hurt...the poor shop owners, who just want to try to make a living, and try to make things better for themselves, and their families.
Now they're ruined because of the callous, nasty behavior of this guy,and his crooked lawyers.
This guy and his lawyers should have to pay all the legal expenses of this Korean family.
Pearson should be disbarred in every state in the union. A disgusting, disgusting person, one of many in this country, and it seems they're crawling out of the sewer everywhere..... more, and more every day.

It is a relief to hear that the panel has decided not to allow Roy Pearson another term. He certainly deserves to lose his job for the actions that he has taken, and the blatant abuse of the justice system.

However, I'm rather saddened to see so many people making the actions of this man the benchmark for race relations, the justice system, and the legal system. It is quite true that there exists a racial divide between many Blacks and Asian- Americans... however, I do not believe that this case can be counted among other examples of racial hatred. What Pearson has done is deplorable, but were simply his own actions. as for the justice system, yes, Pearson should have been fired after being caught in various questionable acts. However, the justice system is not perfect, and even for occurrences such as these, allegations must be investigated, and investigations take time, even with evidence.
The legal system is also not perfect. While everyone seems to want to demean the lawyers in the case, they seem to forget that we are a litigious society, and our system relies on both sides being presented. The lawyers, in all likelihood, hated this case just as much, if not more, than everyone else. However, lawyers, while they can decide to refuse cases, also have contracts that they can't break. If you are on retainer, you pretty much have to take the case that the client presents to you, especially if the client has as much influence as Roy Pearson did. They simply did what their job entailed, and made the best of the situation that they were placed in. They aren't villians, they were simply stuck between a rock and a hard place.
For all the commotion and uncertainty that roy Pearson has cused for his senseless actions, I certainly hope that he gets what is coming to him.

Posted by: | November 7, 2007 6:25 PM

In response to the message from zi, Pearson didn't have any lawyers representing him, he represented himself and continues to pursue the case. As a unemployed lawyer he will have plenty of time to ponder his appeal.

The bar association should disbar Roy L. Pearson, Jr., so that he cannot harm others. It is easy to envision this guy going off the rails in any legal dispute, unrestrained by personal and professional morals, judgment and ethics. Disbarment is warranted because Mr. Pearson has amply demonstrated for the record that he lacks any of those qualities.

A side benefit is that disbarment would protect the D.C. consumers Mr. Pearson claims to care about so much -- from his own inept and highly questionably legal judgment and lawyering.

Woo Hoo! We are dancing here in Australia with this great piece of news! Ask not for whom the Pants tolls, Ex Judge Pearson, the pants toll for thee! HAR!

Roy Pearson, a Social Security Administrative law judge? All I know is there is at least one more that I met who should probably be terminated from his job. I won't name names here.

Even the fact that these kind of lawsuits are possible to bring to court, is too crazy for words. It makes your legal system look even more like a BIG JOKE

Dirk (Netherlands)

Posted by: dirk white | November 14, 2007 7:46 AM

clearly this guy has some mental issues to deal with and has no business in any legal or judicial affairs besides wiping down the courtroom with a mop.

Posted by: annoyed | November 14, 2007 11:41 AM

In reply to the post by the individual that states "I do not believe that this case can be counted among other examples of racial hatred". Here is a simple way to guage this: imagine Pearson being a white man and the Chungs a black couple. Now, if that doesn't smell a bit of racism then we're good to go. However, if you get a slight pang or uncomfortable feeling about it, it's probably that feeling of racism poking at ya.

Dirk - "Even the fact that these kind of lawsuits are possible to bring to court, is too crazy for words. It makes your legal system look even more like a BIG JOKE"

Let someone tell us both! I thought our judges COULD dismiss stuff like this and choose not to. Over and over and over.

Posted by: Stephen | November 14, 2007 6:14 PM

I really don't understand the people who automatically assume that this idiot was racially motivated. "Here is a simple way to guage this: imagine Pearson being a white man and the Chungs a black couple. Now, if that doesn't smell a bit of racism then we're good to go." Okay. Try this - imagine that he and the couple were of the same race. Or, alternatively, imagine that the news reports made absolutely no mention of anybody's race at all. Would everybody just assume he was a litigious moron, or would they immediately suspect racism, for no obvious reason?

Note that this doesn't automatically mean that he wasn't racially motivated - just that there is no obvious evidence of it at all, so to maintain that this is a hate crime is rather silly. Perhaps the people who so stridently insist that it is have issues of their own.

He is just another idiot that should be shot!

Posted by: Donald | December 11, 2007 3:38 PM

I'm sure he is not a racist, but the fact that the Chung's were old Korean gave him a chance of probably using his english and law skills as an advantage. Of course, his plan worked perfectly. They offered him $12,000. Any smart person would have taken it, but this loser prob thought this would turn out like the Mcdonald lawsuit and went for the big bucks. Racist? maybe greedy?

Posted by: | December 26, 2007 1:06 AM

I hope Roy Pearson is sued and give back every penny Jin and Soo lost! But if they don't sue the courts should force him to pay for thier loss! The Idiot!

Posted by: Ivan Sanchez | December 29, 2007 5:51 PM

Pearson is a loser who deserves to lose more!

Posted by: mrw650 | January 3, 2008 6:01 PM

We were once a great country. In the day they would have arrested that man and locked him up.
