Bush Pressed on Daughter's Wedding

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania - President Bush is excited about the upcoming wedding of his daughter, Jenna, and fiance Henry Hager. Really. Just don't ask him how it's coming.

"It's coming like I have nothing to say about it, is how it's coming," he joked with Ann Curry of NBC's "Today" show during an interview here in Tanzania on Monday.

"Oh, really?" Curry asked. "They're not letting you do anything?"

"They're letting me spend money," he said.

Laura Bush, sitting in on the interview, jumped in. "Jenna and I have been having a really good time planning the wedding." But she did not want to give away too many details other than what is already known, that it will be at the Bush ranch near Crawford, Tex., this spring. "It'll be small and private, just what Jenna wants," the first lady said. "I think it'll be lovely and simple and just perfect."

And no doubt expensive. Sorry, Mr. President.

What cute little stories these are. Just darling!

I can't stand Bush... but this *was* a cute story. I'm sure fathers-of-the bride all over the world kinda feel for Georgie.

Agree with epc52566 -- for a minute there, ol' W sounded almost human. Almost.

The wedding will be simple - just like President Bush.

i wonder if good ole Jenna and little ole Barbara have been on the abstinence plan that daddy-o suggests everyone else abide by. or do you think the two little bushies are giving it up for whomever? inquiring minds want to know

Posted by: jackstraw3457 | February 18, 2008 4:32 PM

the first lady said. "I think it'll be lovely and simple and just perfect."
And your miserable excuse for a husband has left the world in a similar state, "just lovely, simple and perfect." The dimwit first hag sounds just like her dimwit mother-in-law, not concerned about what goes on outside her "beautiful little mind," as babs said. These june cleaver wanna-bes are a disgrace to our species' evolution, women's equality and human dignity, among a dozen other things. I wanna marry a barf-bag just like dear-anged old mom.

Why would the daughter of the President of USA, not get married in the white house?

How many daughters or sons get to have a privilege of having their wedding at the Capital of USA, and White House, were history continues to be made every second.

I am sorry she does not have the respect and the want to be part of the USA History.

Posted by: TBOYLE | February 18, 2008 4:43 PM

Hmmm must be nice to be born without the curios gene. I suppose Mr. Bush can be "cute" in the knowledge that his daughters can marry or not as they choose, yet he may never feel compeled to reflect inwards of the millions of people who willnow never marry, nor have children who'll marry, no brothers, etc.,millions all a direct result of his pettiness..Saddam could be cute he never knew any better....Mary..

Some of your posters, rather than join in a fine event for the Bush family, throw snide, uneducated, derisive remarks because they have the right to do so in this great country, not because they have any class at all in their crass comments about the President and his family

Posted by: wpric6526 | February 18, 2008 5:16 PM

I agree with Mary57 - I think Bush and his family have no idea of the price that many American families have paid as result of Iraq - they're lives have not been affected and I think that's a crying shame. My guess is that Jenna's fiance hasn't come within a mile of serving his country and his President in the President's war, but what else can we expect?

Posted by: jlm | February 18, 2008 5:27 PM

There are times to be sarcastic, evil, jealous, and enviest but this is not a proper time to do these things. Be happy for the couple as they are getting ready to travel a long long road.

I saw Jenna on TV and she's really cool. I wish her the very best and after all the crap she has had to put up with being the President's daughter, she is entitled to splurge at her wedding--using Daddy's deep pockets.

Good luck and God Bless.

The "small-minded people" who have made such snide, crass, and vicious comments about their (and my) President and his family in this blog continue to contribute to the "dog-pile on the rabbit" mentality that has inflamed worldwide negative publicity and negative perception of America and its people. Look in the mirror, Mr. and Ms. Bloggers, to see who the real enemies of America are.

Anyone care to bet- I say she's preggers prior to wedding day.
The trailer-trash sisters are the perfect bookend complement to that crazy Bush Raunchy Ranch Clan.

I heard Jenna being interviewed on TV and I thought she was insightful, intelligent, and articulate even though I am a Bush hater lets give this lovely young lady our best wishes we do not pick our parents !!

Posted by: Steve Gordon | February 18, 2008 6:32 PM

Why don't you report less on Bush's child's wedding and start asking Bush and foreign policy team members what they are doing about Somalia and Chad? Why doesn't anything like that come up in your reports.

Posted by: Alan | February 18, 2008 6:34 PM

With all the negative activity going on in the US right now, wouldn't you think that the Bushes would realize that a White House wedding would help to cheer up Americans? How selfish the Bushes are not to realize this. If Jenna were my daughter, we'd have the private ceremony in Texas just as she wanted, with a follow up for our country at the White House. I suspect the President cannot grasp this but I am surprised about his wife and daughter.

Posted by: dbldbl2 | February 18, 2008 6:49 PM

I am not uneducated and am glad that his daughter is going to be able to have a private wedding in Texas.

It has to be tough to love your father and see how the majority of the country dislikes him as a President.

And yes God Bush does for a little while show pride in his family. But that is PRIVATE and his real professional life is what we dislike about his as PRESIDENT.

He is traveling for the second time in 7 plus years promoting a program that benefits foreign nationals. Offering 15 BILLION in aid over 5 years. Has spend Trillions on a War on Terror YET does nothing for the Citizens of the United States in the way of Education, Health, Safety. Instead "we are a giving people" and we want to help the less fortunate.

This is why the young and wealthy college educated are willing to support Barrak Hussein Obama who has a father and step- father that is a MUSLIM.

Too bad Jenna won't experience what the son of friends will experience soon: after four years of honorable active duty with the Army, he returned home, married, works part-time and is in college. But darn, here's a letter from Uncle Sam (chicken hawk Bush); this poor fellow is being called back to active duty and will be sent back into the war zone AGAIN. Why can't this sacrifice be spread into a bigger part of our nation? But no, that won't happen to the people who don't need a job or a tuition break. Have a great wedding Jenna and a long, happy life!

Posted by: dlbucs | February 18, 2008 7:12 PM

Are Jenna and Henry going to get married, then join the Marines? Maybe a couple of soldiers could then come home after multiple tours in Iraq.

Posted by: krerm | February 18, 2008 7:22 PM

I see the Bush haters are out in droves today. People who have glass houses don't throw rocks, because it might come home to roost one of these days. Be nice to every one and your life will be better for it.

God Bless Bush and his family. I read some of these negative comments and wonder who these people are. Have they not enjoyed the fact that we have not had attacks on us since 9/11 and we have had a great economy in spite of Bush taking over in a recession. Oh, I forget the news media has not let these facts get out. These people sound like sore, sore losers to me. They thrive on government and power and are desparate without their power over the people and their high taxs.

Looks like a number of the posters here keep multiple-posting their comments. Do they think repeating the same thing over and over will make it more convincing?
I say best of luck to Jenna and her groom-to-be. But it's too bad Jenna's dad will be leaving our country and our world in such a horrible mess.

Posted by: Luise Perenne | February 18, 2008 8:18 PM

who are these inhumane people that are so negative on the President-you should be ashamed of yourselves-why so angry-give it up and get a real life!

Posted by: dld | February 18, 2008 10:40 PM

It saddens me that are so many self-righteous individuals who are so vocal and quick not just to criticize the President, but to judge him guilty simply because they "hate" him.
It seems also that this hate says more about the small-mindedness of the writers than it does about the object of their invective.

Its rather fun to watch from Canada as you Yankees tear apart another president. I remember it from the times of JFK continuing with Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush 1 and Bill Clinton.
A more mature population would find another sport or at least recognize that this as one of the many reasons your country and its people are ridiculed in the western world and hated in the third.
.....lets see.....how quickly can you bring Obama down?

Posted by: john shantz | February 19, 2008 12:24 AM

nice news report through which readers got a sense Mr.Bush and the first lady were human beings too.

We can add here those who CAN'T marry the person they love because they're gay, directly because of the shrub's pettiness.

Typical Bush behaviour. Out of touch and insulated as usual. The wedding should be held at the sight one of Bush's worst dereliction of duties: the Ninth Ward of New Orleans. And have Michael Brown in charge of catering.

My husband, Gerald, and I wish to congratulate and send our best wishes to Jenna and her fiance', Henry, on their decision to spend their life together. We pray that God will shower you two with a healthy, fruitful, and joyous life together sharing in HIS love, joy, peace, and happiness only that our wonderful SAVIOR can render. May God always bless and direct your pathways.
Yes, we personally desire to have the opportunity to watch another BIG wedding in the White House, we are happy that you two are "gutsy" to choose wedding plans to meet your personal wishes. We love you and will pray for your future together.

I love the Bush Family.
I wish Jenna and her future husband lots of happiness and a long life.

Every Republican in this country love our President. Only Democrats hate him. Get a life!

These comments are unbelievable! If she was getting married in the White House you would scream about tax dollars and where that money should go. The fact she wants to have a small wedding at her Texas home is her right and her decision. This girl did not pick her family so it is incredibly immature and narrow minded to trash her. As for her and her sisters behavior when they were in college, get over it, they were in college.

You have to revise your opinion. Repeating this nuttery misses your point. Give us proofs. Not just with words, but with deeds.

From the beginning your blog seemed pretty dull for me. But now it keeps getting better. THIS post is just AWESOME!
