Summer Mixtape, Track 3: 'Nah Goin Home' - Biggie Irie
In keeping with the island theme, we turn to Barbados, home of the reggae-loving British crooner Carlton Cordle, better known as the international soca star Biggie Irie. This is his biggest hit - the one that won him the awesomely named title of International Groovy Soca Monarch. (It's a huge deal, especially for a non-Trini act.)
Sweet voice, festive lyrics, impossibly insistent beat, melody on "loan" from U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" - just a great, frothy summer jam. The remix with Maximus Dan is pretty hot, too.
