Sony Online Shows Two New MMORPGs
Sony Online, the company that brought you EverQuest II and is now publishing Star Wars Galaxies and the Matrix Online showed two new MMORPGs, both of which should be playable by the end of the year, although they make no commitments.
The first one is called Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising -- it's based on Roman and Greek mythology. You are the son or daughter of a god, and as you go through the game, you get more and more powers of your father or mother.
We played a demo and it was a lot of fun. There were plenty of creatures from mythology -- the chimera and cyclops, just to name a couple of the big ones we fought.
Also the game allows you to control your minions -- you can get NPCs as followers and command them in battle. They go up in levels like you do.
The other MMO game is called Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.
It looks a lot like EverQuest II ... in fact, they said EQ2 was what they based it on. The combat interface is going to be a lot different in this one -- in most MMORPGs you just watch your opponent as you fight, but in this one you can block and do active moves. This brings the player more into the game, for more of a shooter-type experience.
