Verizon's "Fergalicious" at Fair Oaks

Pop singer Fergie will give a short performance and sign autographs today at 3 p.m. at the Verizon Experience Store in the Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax.
It adds to the list of celebrities Verizon is hosting at the store, which opened in December. The store is meant to showcase all of Verizon's technology and gadgets, similar to an Apple store. In February, teen heartthrob Stephen Colletti of the MTV show Laguna Beach made an appearance amid giggling, gushing teen-aged girls. (Yes, I admit, I was there--but I swear I only went because it was the store's grand opening and I was curious!)
It's a school day, so I'm not sure "Fergalicious" will draw a huge throng of her teenie-bopper fans. Even if she does, I wonder if it will translate into sales. I mean, the parents who actually fork over the money for that new Chocolate phone aren't exactly Fergie groupies. Judging from emails I've gotten recently, Verizon's made quite a name for itself as a "marketing machine"--and consumers have noticed. What do you think? Will teen idol sightings at a Verizon store mean the company will sell more phones or FiOS subscriptions?
