Last Minute Money Drops

And this is for the primary.

Looks like a conservative PAC in Virginia has just hit fundraising Nirvana.

The lucky group? Virginia Conservative Alliance, a committee run by GOP stalwart Patrick McSweeny, a former party chairman.

The Alliance Wednesday was blessed with a single $100,000 check from Shenandoah Services LC of Harrisonburg, which is listed as a management service company, according to the Virginia State Board of Elections.

That's a lot of money to blow in one day. Who are these guys?

Shenandoah Services is listed as a subsidiary of SEI Technology in Harrisonburg, a company run by mega-millionaire Walter Curt, who has been a longtime contributor to conservative causes in Virginia.

A city of Harrisonburg press release states: "From SEI headquarters in Harrisonburg, Virginia, Shenandoah Services personnel provide human resources, accounting, security, travel and flight operations  and information systems support for sites across the country."

Now the company is doling out lots of money to McSweeny's group, which wants to elect conservative Republicans to the General Assembly.

Curt personally has already given $50,000 to Republican gubernatorial candidate Jerry Kilgore this year and $25,000 to Chris Oprison, who is challenging GOP Del. Joe T. May in Loudoun.

The last week before the Virginia primaries has seen lots of similar money dumping, particularly in the GOP attorney general's race.

For instance Steve Baril, who's running for in that primary received $50,000 from his wife, Mary D. Baril, who's the daughter of former Republican Gov. John Dalton. That adds to 16 contributions worth $90,000 he received from various other sources between June 1 and June 10, according to the Virginia Public Access Project. Meanwhile, his opponent, Del. Bob McDonnell (Virginia Beach), has also had Christmas in June, receiving nearly $90,000 in the last 10 days.
