Kilgore Going Around in Circles
Well, his car is, anyway.
[WARNING: Bad sports analogies to follow.]
Remember, it was Race to Richmond that first waved the checkered flag on car No. 92, the Kilgore car. See that post here.
The race was Sunday, and for those of you looking everywhere for clues to who will cross the finish line on Nov. 8: Kilgore didn't win.
Okay, seriously. There's no real traction to the idea of a connection between the Subway 500 and the Virginia gubernatorial election. Jeff Gordon, the winner of the race, is not even a candidate.
But the folks over at Tim Kaine central were taking a bit of comfort in the race results. Not only did Kilgore finish far back in the pack, but apparently, the Kilgore car stalled at one point. (Something a certain Kaine staffer pointed out.)
Kilgore aides say their NASCAR strategy could actually help them win the election by boosting support among NASCAR fans, especially in Southside and Southwest Virginia. It worked for Gov. Mark Warner, and his race was only the truck series, not nearly as popular.
So far, polling seems to suggest that the NASCAR gig is revving Kilgore's engines in some parts. In the Mason Dixon poll out Sunday, Kilgore is well ahead in Southwest and the Valley. But Kaine has almost pulled alongside Kilgore in Southside, the poll says, as they round the two-week curve.
Okay, that's enough.

I have asked the same question.
There is far more on the table here than there was when Woodward and Bernstein were first reporting on a nasty little break-in at the Watergate ..a break-in that involved "immigrants" ...as I recall. The Republican National Committee is still playing the same game, laundering the money....all Hail Halliburton and "The Hammer." Only a few of the names have changed.
Thank God Woodward and Bernstein were not as lazy as these slugs today are. Waldo Jaquith (Look on the BLOGS & COMMENTARY LIST TO YOUR LEFT) has done some excellent work as has Bob Gibson on the Progress... it is absolutely astounding that reporters are so lazy these days. They report about "menus" when they should be following the money trail here. "LAZY" is the kindest four-letter word that comes to mind.

It's just a blog. But yeah, it would be nice to see some real reporting.

Don't blast Mike because he is totally unbiased (like me). There are only a few of us left.

I am not blasting Mike ... a newspaper reporter's job REQUIRES being UNBIASED ...
I am commenting on the laziness of far too many reporters who are content to stick with the status quo, go with WHATEVER the source says....or sources say, and then rely on whatever the press release says ... Far too many so-called reporters feed off of pablum press relases instead of getting off their butts and actually looking deep....

Hey, why isn't the media covering the DeLay-Abramoff-Kilgore connection?
