En P.R. hay violencia pero no como aca. Soy Puertorriquena y madre de un estudiante de Virginia Tech. Gracias a Dios me hijo no estuvo envuelto, pero pudo haber sido una de las victimas. Mis oraciones acompanan a todos.

Time, a second
Time, a minute
Time, an hour
Time, a day
Time, a week
Time, a month
Time, a year
One step at a time, into this darkness
One step at a time, into this unknown madness

Amidst the shock and horror of the massacre as I was even more saddened by learning one of victims was from my hometown in Puerto Rico. My heartfelt condolescences to the family and friends of Juan Ramon. My prayers are with you, and pray you find comfort and solace in all the fond memories you share. God bless you all.

A small correction...NOT a tribute
The last name of the widow of Juan Ramon Ortiz is Vega, or Vega Cortes -- not Cortes. Vega is paternal, Cortes maternal. (Most people here use both. Ramon is Juan's middle name, while his full last name is Ortiz Ortiz -- which is why he apparently went only by Ortiz.)
It's confusing, and a very common error in the stateside media.

I knew Juan Ramon as a classmate in high school, we were never close but it still hurts but I know that it doesn't hurt anywhere near as much as it does for the family.

My deepest condolences and best wishes as you piece your lives back together

Our cousin Juan was the kindest person on Earth. We will miss forever his smile and his sense of humor. The last time we saw each other was back home in Puerto Rico during Christmas time. All the family together...We had a blast! We joked about the fact that we were rivals in the football field. He was a Hokie and we are Florida State Seminole. We made plans to see each other again during College Football season... We'll miss you Juan and we will always be proud of you. Love U!
