Another Gwynn Park Hokie
Make it two years in a row that Gwynn Park will send a player to Virginia Tech. Courtney Prince, recruited by the Hokies to play defensive end, committed over the weekend.
Prince, who is 6 feet 3 and 265 pounds, is entering his third year starting on the offensive and defensive lines. He also had scholarship offers from Syracuse, Purdue, Akron and Buffalo, Gwynn Park Coach Danny Hayes said.
Cornerback Rashad Carmichael will be a Virginia Tech freshman this fall.
Also, Hayes said, tight end Taylor Watson is scheduled to meet with Maryland Coach Ralph Friedgen today to discuss the Terrapins' scholarship offer. Watson also has offers from Connecticut, Temple and Towson, Hayes said, adding that he expects Watson to commit to Maryland today.
Two Gwynn Park players from last season committed to the Terrapins. Linebacker Adrian Moten is enrolled for the fall, but wide receiver Quintin McCree will spend the fall at Hargrave Military Academy, Hayes said. Although McCree graduated from Gwynn Park, he needs to improve his SAT score to meet NCAA eligibility standards, Hayes said, and hopes to do that in one semester and then begin taking classes in College Park in the spring semester and participate in spring practice.
Another standout from last season, Lackey All-Met lineman J.B. Walton, reportedly will enroll at Milford Academy in hopes of meeting NCAA eligibility standards in the fall and enrolling at Penn State in January.
