DeMatha QB Drawing Attention... Again
DeMatha quarterback Chester Stewart was quick to accept a scholarship offer from Temple over the summer. Stewart had yet to play a meaningful snap in high school, so it seemed like a good idea to be safe and take the ride from Temple, even though the school's football program has struggled, to say the least.
However, after a season in which he has capably demonstrated his ability, Stewart is attracting attention from several better-known programs. And while Stags Coach Bill McGregor said Stewart plans to honor his commitment to the Owls, don't be surprised if Stewart considers these new offers.

He should have given the verbal when he did because he did not know what kind of year that he was going to have. Also having not had a varsity snap in a game and get a DI offer, you have to give the verbal especially since it is not binding and see how the season plays out. Universities back out of verbals all of the time. Ask Maryland fans about Steve Slaton, who could have been running in there backfield.
If he receives a better opportunity he should take it.

Your word is your bond. Honor the commitment. Temple is a great school with a great young coach.

I am not sure what to think about extracting those kind of commitments from a minor. Is a teenager really in a position to enter a binding contract as consequential as this one?
Whatever the law, it is a questionable practice.
