More For Monday

1) All-Met Defensive Player of the Year Marvin Austin, a lineman from Ballou, plans to reveal his college choice on Feb. 7, the first day of the college football signing period. Austin has kept things pretty quiet; his last official visit was to Florida State.

2) Maryland's Gary Williams, Georgetown's John Thompson III and George Mason's Jim Larranaga were among the crowd for Saturday's Battle of the Beltways at American U.

3) No word yet on the status of DeMatha junior center Chris Braswell, who before the season committed to Georgetown; he was not on the bench for Saturday's victory over Towson Catholic. DeMatha Coach Mike Jones declined to comment on the situation. But given Braswell's missing several games at the start of the season, it leads one to wonder if he plans to be back at DeMatha next year. Speculation already was swirling that Braswell might need an extra year of school to meet the NCAA's academic standards and there was some belief he might take the route of another former DeMatha player Jeff Allen and leave before his senior year.

4) For those who didn't get to see Georgetown recruits Chris Wright of St. John's and Austin Freeman of DeMatha in Saturday's doubleheader, their teams meet again on Friday. Officials from both schools moved the games to Gallaudet at 7:30 after parking and other issues arose from DeMatha's victory in the teams' meeting earlier this month. And if anyone needs an extra look at Freeman, here it is, courtesy of YouTube and HoopTV:

Josh - you should try to find some Web video of the worst call in the history of sports Saturday night (the "3" point shot to tie the St Johns-MSJ game). I know they're HS refs, but wow was that bad. Fun game though, Chris Wright was sensational.

Kev - I did look for the video but couldn't find it. If anyone has a link, send it to me at barrj@washpost.com. For what it's worth, I'm told the referees were from the association that normally supplies WCAC games with refs.

Josh,
Any updates on the Terps? K Cavanaugh of the Terrapin Times has said for weeks that Austin has FSU 1, USC 2 and MD 3. And what's the word on Jai Lucas?
