Not a Normal Event for Campbell

There usually isn't much exciting about college announcements. This past Friday afternoon at Forestville, however, was a little different as All-Met linebacker Devonte Campbell made it public that he had accepted a scholarship offer to play for Maryland.

The school color guard marched in. Three girls sang the Star Spangled Banner. Then Knights Coach Charles Harley played Campbell's highlight tape.

All of a sudden, in the darkened room, commotion arose as one of Campbell's teammates, a burly lineman, fainted and collapsed to the floor. Someone yelled, "Does anyone know CPR?" After a few minutes, it became clear that everything would be okay. And Campbell later said he never was worried.

"Whenever he gets excited, that happens," Campell said. "We're used to it. I think that hit on the tape got him hyped."

Campbell was poised as he spoke, standing in front of a few reporters and wearing a new, light green suit. His new brown shoes, new shirt and new tie all impressed Harley. Campbell said he had gone shopping earlier in the week. "New school, new everything," he said with a smile.
