Braswell Done at DeMatha

Spoke to DeMatha hoops coach Mike Jones this afternoon (keeping up with today's DeMatha theme) and he said that standout forward Chris Braswell will not return to the Hyattsville school for his senior year. The talented 6-foot-9 forward committed to Georgetown before this past season but then played in only 11 games, missing most of the season for undisclosed reasons.

Jones said that Braswell completed the school year at DeMatha ans is enrolled for summer school there as well. Jones said that Braswell had to decline an invitation to the U.S. Olympic Festival because of conflicts with summer school and that Braswell will attend the NBA Players Association Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville only after he completes his summer school work. That would be quite a contrast for most players' schedules, as they regularly worked in schoolwork around basketball - although perhaps the change can be attributed to new NCAA regulations that will allow a player to take only one core course during a fifth year of high school.

As for Braswell's next stop, Jones said: "That's up in the air right now. I know they're looking at possibly Hargrave." Of course, former DeMatha forward Jeff Allen recently completed his high school education at Hargrave and is headed for Virginia Tech.

For those worried about whether the cupboard is bare at DeMatha, Jones said that 6-5 rising junior Naji Hibbert has transferred from St. Frances of Baltimore and rising sophomore guard Josh Selby has transferred from John Carroll.
