Local Player Picks West Virginia
West Springfield kicker Tyler Bitancurt on Sunday committed to play for West Virginia.
The Mountaineers last week offered Bitancurt a scholarship and he took an official visit to Morgantown over the weekend. Before leaving, he pledged to play for Coach Rich Rodriguez.
West Springfield Coach Bill Renner calls Bitancurt the best kicker he's ever seen in high school. This season, Bitancurt made 49 of 50 point-after kicks and made 13 of 17 field goal attempts with a long of 50 yards and four more longer than 40. Of his 81 kickoffs, 70 went for touchbacks. He also averaged 39 yards per punt with 18 inside the 20-yard line and only one touchback.
