Football Signing Underway!

Busy day today. Just got back in front of the computer after traveling to Friendly High, where eight players signed their letters-of-intent this morning:

WR Lamaar Thomas - Ohio State
LB Eteyen Edet - Maryland
DB Devin Wallace - Virginia
OL Quinton Sales - Massachusetts
WR Carlos Davis - Old Dominion
DL Terrell Hawkins - Howard
DB Steve Murray - Northeastern
LB James Stanfield - Duquesne

Two other Friendly players, RB Josh Haden (Boston College) and OL Martin Kamara (Howard) are enrolled in college for the spring semester. Another player, WR Vincent Hill, a 2007 Friendly grad who spent this season at a prep school, signed with Minnesota.

It was an entertaining show, to be sure, with the basketball scorer's table wheeled onto the auditorium stage, though the possession arrow did not seem to be functioning. A pet peeve popped up, as several players misstated the names of the future schools -- Duquesne Dukes University, University of Northeastern and The University of Ohio State all were mentioned, though Friendly assistant Marcus Berry, an Ohio native, quickly corrected Thomas. Berry also got a few laughs when he introduced "the beautiful" Friendly Athletic Director Tiffany Miller-Bevins and then said, "If she's not the best athletic director, she has to be the best looking one."

I'll have lots more updates throughout the day.

Is making fun of kids now newsworthy or just a cheap shot?
