Redskins Insider, by Jason La Canfora Redskins Insider

Award Time

So much fodder this week, with the TO saga and all, and so little time:

1 TCCL - KimmyPR. What was she thinking? I know she had to change her tune from the night before and get in spin mode, but that press-conference performance will live in infamy. Drew Rosenhaus has met his female doppelganger, and strangely enough they're both on TO's payroll. Great to see the Dallas PD dropped some bombs on Kim with their remarks yesterday.

1 TCCL - Gardner, Rod: Will this be the week he makes his 2006 debut with the KC Chefs (not a typo for a change, meant to write that)?

2 TCCL - Barno. Bro, you are starting to scare us. If you want to bash Howard, for whatever reason, this ain't the spot. Come down from the grassy knoll.

2 TCCL - Typing in call capital letters. Is this huge on myspace or something? Have I missed the boat here or is it pretty lame? Saying all that, I like our guy BOOFER. Seems like good people to me, and pretty good at pushing buttons, too.

2 TCCL - Cooley. Our hopes and dreams died on your kitchen floor. Seeing his haircut Thursday made me feel like that clipboard-holding producer who ambles up to Ron Burgundy in the newsroom after he inadvertently tells San Diego to, um, do something to itself during his sign-off.

2 TCCL - Me. The Metallica gaffe was bad. Tried to pound out that entry in the two minute window I had to do it, and mixed up my signposts on the road to sellout land.

4 TCCL - You guys will be screaming for his head come Sunday, but Byron Leftwich's tales of sneaking into RFK were old-school gold. Seems like a are real good dude.

4 TCCL - haikuman. All bow to him. Giving our lil blog a scholarly bent.

Hope to see some of you over on the washingtonpost webchat I have at 12:15. Have a great weekend and enjoy the game.
Cheers.

Awwww, what happened to the TomKat jokes? I fell empty now.

Posted by: Megskin | September 29, 2006 9:18 AM

Ooops, that was supposed to be *feel*. Feel me, touch me...uhmm...nevermind.

Posted by: Megskin | September 29, 2006 9:35 AM

I'm still in mourning for Cooley's hair. He could have achieved legendary Polamalu status. Oh, what could have been...

Posted by: P Diddy | September 29, 2006 9:53 AM

Megskin not sure what you was trying to do with the last post but you got a laugh out of me. (great job) 4 TCCL for Jason and everyone on this blog. You guys make my day.It also makes me keep asking myself why I moved to New Jersey.

Posted by: jm220 | September 29, 2006 9:55 AM

Jason, tell me more about your views on the Chefs. The 49ers have played some tough teams, I'm picking them to pull an upset b/c of the absent Trent Green. I figure Gardner, Rod really will be ornamental and the Chefs will run with Mr. Johnson ... and that the 49ers new passing threat, Taylor Jacobs, will have his break out game. [Just kidding, trying to be a Tomkat on that one.]

Posted by: dcsween | September 29, 2006 10:03 AM

Seriously, Jason, the facts of the story back up what TO and his publicist said yet people keep dragging this nonsense through the mud. While her press conference was just plain dumb she was telling the truth about the incident

Posted by: Omar | September 29, 2006 10:45 AM

The Niners have been a surprise so far this year, and I took them this week with the points (+7.5), but Arrowhead if a TUFF place to win, especially for a young qb like alex smith. And especially with a bad defense playing LJ....sorry, I'm not JLC, but I can play him on this blog. Not well, but still, it's better than talking about TO or the reasons why The Grim Reaper/Tarantula/Spitting Cobra is better than Roy "I forgot about Moss" Williams.

Posted by: WrongDog | September 29, 2006 11:01 AM

Hope to see some of you over on the washingtonpost webchat I have at 12:15.

Would love to submit questions, but it seems to be broken :(

I'm not as hip as the rest of you---what is TCCL?

Posted by: mart | September 29, 2006 11:12 AM

Limerickman needs to make an appearance too

Posted by: Dorf | September 29, 2006 11:26 AM

TCCL = Tom Cruise Couch Leap

Big Media and Big Brother are sons of The Man, all of which are employed by Daniel Snyder.

Posted by: Dorf | September 29, 2006 11:28 AM

We forgot one: Big Media -- how many TCCL?

(remember before you answer that one, Big Media controls your thoughts and the captured aliens in the Nevada desert)

Posted by: Ali Haji Shank | September 29, 2006 11:28 AM

"Why'd you say that Ron? Why? You're my hero. And you say something dirty. Like poop. Poop mouth. I hate you Ron Burgundy, I hate you."

HA HA! I gotta say this is my favorite quote to come out of this whole TO saga, yet: "Give me a break. Those officers are 10 times better than this man." -- Senior Cpl. Glenn White.

I'm glad TO is okay, that he didn't try to commit suicide and that he still has the matching male and female set of "Foot-in-Mouth Dolls," Rosenhaus and Etheredge. All is right in the world and I can go back to hating Dallas, Philly and the Lilliputians with full impunity. No other human emotions, like sympathy and/or empathy, need be present.

Posted by: Bucktown Skins Fan | September 29, 2006 11:34 AM

Is Big Media anything like Big Oil?

On another note...out here on the left coast (the West Coast is the best coast, and don't you forget it), it's 75, sunny, and perfect. It's about 8:30am...is it too early to start drinking? Is it more socially acceptable to wait until noon or so?

Posted by: P Diddy | September 29, 2006 11:37 AM

Omar, there are precious few "facts to this story." There is a police report that says Owens tried to kill himself. There is a trainer whom Owens fired yesterday for talking about Owens' broken engagement. And there are the hospital reports which Owens has not made public.

Kimmy PR has 25 million reasons to keep Owens off the non-football injury list. For his sake, I hope he's not just putting a happy face on a serious mental illness.

Posted by: Joe in Raleigh | September 29, 2006 11:38 AM

It's never too early to start drinking.

If you need further rationale, I suggest asking BOOFER what he thinks is "socially acceptable" -- I'm sure he will say it is fine.

It's going to be in the high 80s in my part of the Left Coast, I say we crack the Patron and start hitting the margaritas at 10. P Diddy, you down?

Oh, and Big Oil is Big Media's cousin. Between them, they control gas prices, your thoughts, the aliens in the desert, and point spreads.

Posted by: Ali Haji Shank | September 29, 2006 11:43 AM

Omar

The facts may back-up TOs story and it seems clear that he was just being dumb not trying to off himself. HOWEVER, the ignorance, insensitivity, and lack of media savy by a PR rep (major irony there)was astounding.

"TO has 25 Million reasons not to kill himself"....okay brainiac woman....suicidal depression is a medical problem/disease related to imbalances in your brain not your checking account. Like rich folks don't get sick

As long as TO and his "peeps" represent him with this circus of stupidity, people will be on his case and think he is a joke...he deserves to be dragged through the mud for his stupidity.

Posted by: JR | September 29, 2006 11:44 AM

P Diddy that is just not right. Here is dirty Jerz it not even going to be 75 all day. Damn you! lol

Posted by: jm220 | September 29, 2006 11:44 AM

And I know this is a Skins blog, but did anyone see the 7th inning of last night's O's/Yankees game? Allowing a run on errors and bad catching and still keeping a no-hitter going (which was later lost)?

That team is a mess. Free the birds!

Posted by: Ali Haji Shank | September 29, 2006 11:45 AM

I feel like we are going to lose this weekend. Anyone else feel the same way?

Posted by: What does everyone think? | September 29, 2006 11:45 AM

I always feel like we're going to win.

Posted by: Joe in Raleigh | September 29, 2006 11:55 AM

The record-breaking Mark Brunell can't even manage 1 TCCL for his 22 straight screens/dumpoffs/checkdowns?! Tough crowd.

Posted by: Joe in Raleigh | September 29, 2006 11:58 AM

Hey Joe, Mark would actually merit 5 TCCLs for that performance. 1 is for crap.
It is definitely not too early to crack the brews and whip of the margaritas. Down a few for me boys, and enjoy the Left Coast sun.
As for the Chefs, I like 'em. Not to win outright per say, but I think make a game out of it.
As for TO, not sure what he facts are other than Kimmy thought her man was in big trouble, accused the cops of lying, and now seems to be backing off that whatever.
Whatever. She's an idiot. Hope TO is alright but I really think he was reaching out for help here. Just my take on it.
Oh yeah, and more importantly:
A belated 5 TCCLs for BORAT. The man was running through the streets of DC yesterday, did you guys here? Viva Kazhak. Booyakashot!

Posted by: Jason La Canfora | September 29, 2006 12:08 PM

haha, it'll be nice to see Gardner, Rod in action. lets see if he'll live up to fiddy-fiddy....or will it be 40-60 cause he's rusty?

and yeah, forever, the team in KC will be known as the Chefs....classic Snickers commercial.
"looks good, but who da chefs?"
hahahahhaa

Posted by: HaikuMan | September 29, 2006 12:21 PM

This is going to be one of those games where you wonder why you are a Redskins fan for most of the game. They will have so many three-and-outs, it will make you sick. The first four possessions will be three three-and-outs and a turnover. Their defense is like Devastator...pretty tight by position, but just ridiculous as a whole. You cannot run on this team period. It won't happen. Bench Portis if you have him. He will not score or run. I am so serious about this. All the talk about Portis, who I love like a son who takes down the Prom Queen, is irrelevant when it comes to the Jags. John Henderson is going to look like one of our O-Linemen he will be in the backfield so often. Fox will bill Dockery vs. Henderson as a key matchup between two men. This is a falsehood. Henderson is a man. Dockery is a fat kid who ate too much ice cream growing up. He will be tossed aside. Dominated. The corners play tight at the line and are smart and jump routes like my cousin got jumped by four dudes at 7-Eleven back in '87. Their safeties play both deep and at the line. Our only chance of winning this game rests in the hands of four players and I am serious about this: Moss, Cooley, Lloyd and Brunell. Moss will be the key more than anyone. His crossing routes across the middle will be the only thing to bring success because this to me is the only vulnerability of the Jags D. Cooley will be key for the same reason. Lloyd is our only red zone hope. I kid you not. This is the game where Brunell needs to throw it up for grabs and Lloyd needs to bring it down.

This game is going to come down to the last six minutes of the 4th quarter. We have to hope we hold them to field goals and that we score a weird touchdown at some point. Our defense will look not great again. I think Grilliams has been figured out and this is his last year in DC. All of this nonsense about Springs not allowing Grilliams do the things he wants to do is stupid. Great defenses do that all of the time. Al Saunders is the heir apparent and he should be. Mark it down. Grilliams' schtick is getting tired.

We have a chance to win this game, but not much.

The "gov" not you LimerickMan.

Who EVER questions why they are a skins fan?????

Posted by: WrongDog | September 29, 2006 12:44 PM

I heard a rumor that Gibbs was calling the offensive plays last week...is this true? If so, what was Saunders doing during the game?

Posted by: Sam | September 29, 2006 12:59 PM

I have questioned it many times. As a matter of fact last week when we went three and out and then they dropped the bomb over our d I was yelling "Why am I a skins fan."....then 5 minutes later i remembered.

I feel the Gov is correct on Grilliams. Sometimes Defensive schemes get figured out like pitchers. Never to be effective again. Furthermore karma punishes those who refer to themselves in the third person and Grilliams loves to do that.

I have to stop talking about all this . Skinz is getting UPSET!!!

Posted by: Megskin | September 29, 2006 1:01 PM

In regard to Borat. From Rueters Reuters or however you spell it....

Shortly after Nazarbayev dedicated a statue in front of the Kazakh embassy, Borat denounced an official Kazakh publicity campaign running in U.S. magazines as "disgusting fabrications" orchestrated by neighboring Uzbekistan.

"If there is one more item of Uzbek propaganda claiming that we do not drink fermented horse urine, give death penalty for baking bagels, or export over 300 tonnes of human pubis per year, then we will be left with no alternative but to commence bombardment of their cities with our catapults," Borat said.

A week of hearing the Gainst fans talk trash maybe be just a little to much for me. I hope you have a great weekend.

Posted by: jm220 | September 29, 2006 3:06 PM

Hey Nation. I was called out yesterday, as you all know, by someone on one of the blogs. He said that my argument was weak because it used no facts (I hope he is not a Bush supporter, because that would just be hypocritical, now wouldn't it), and in one respect, he is correct. I did not use any facts in my response to Fluffer's post other than the whole catologue of dirty Roy Williams pictures on his computer. But he was wrong on a couple of spots in his rebuttle. He said that Fluffer brings the facts, and that is why we are mad at him. I am not mad at him for bringing any kind of facts, I am mad at him because it is not Dallas week. That would be like the U.S. administration trash talking to Iran way before we invade. It doesn't make any sense. So he can leave and come back at Dallas week, and everything will be honkey doorey. And, person who criticized me, if you can name me the last 5 statistics that Boofer brought (in any order), I will apologize sincerenly and never write another post again. Until then, don't criticize me on things that you don't even know are true.

Go Skins!!!!!

Dudes,
Sorry I was out yesterday and most of today. I was on the PUP list with a dental procedure from Hades. There was a saw involved. I am stuttering and swollen and am questionable for gametime but you know you can count on me.

Word.

This weekend will be an important one for Grilliams. The offense of the hah-guars is sub par. This needs to be a defensive struggle that we win because we have too much offensive talent. I do not feel confident in this at this time. We need to find a way to dominate teams like we have the last couple years when grown men feared us.

Great week of banter everyone.

Please join in me in hoping Gardner, Rod dresses but does not play for the Chefs.

You should start a limerick of the week for a player whose exploits on the girdiron warrent them praise. You seem to have the creative edge to do such a task.

Ill be jumping on the couch til Sunday!

JIMMY FARRIS UPDATE:

This from a story on CNNSI on Terrell Owen's problems and his recent breakup from his fiance:

"Owens, speaking to SI.com in a nearly deserted locker room at the close of Friday's media-access period, said he has been heartened by the responses of many people close to him, some of whom immediately traveled to Dallas upon learning of his hospitalization. He said former San Francisco 49ers practice-squad receiver Jimmy Farris, who now lives in Atlanta (he played for the Falcons from 2002 to '04), "flew down right away and has been staying at my house. My cousin flew down, and so did my pastor. And another friend flew in from San Jose -- she was on her way to New York [on Tuesday], but she said God told her to come see me instead."

I' ve known Jimmy and TO were tight for a long time. Called him right away Wednesday morning - or whatever day this all went down - and left a message, but have not heard back from him. He was probably on his way down there when I called.
Forgot to get Jimmy's number myself, but my old boss George Solomon - Farris's No. 1 fan - had the digits, of course.

Not much of a chance that "Fifty-Fifty" will see the field here in KC on Sunday - he's listed on the depth chart as the fifth WR. No way the Chiefs lose to SanFran, especially since they're playing at Arrowhead. I believe the Chiefs are favored by 7, and that sounds about right, even with Herm Edwards and Damon Huard leading the team. The SF defense is atrocious, which makes sense with our boy Mike Nolan coaching the team. Worst defensive coordinator ever. I can't believe we had to watch him and LeCharles McDaniel coaching our boys with Norv AT THE SAME TIME. Isn't that like the perfect storm of horrible coaching? Throw in a Schottenheimer or two, add Spurrier, and top it off with Jimmy Raye, and you've achieved Redskins coaching nirvana!! [Note the sarcasm].

Am I blogging? Oh, I think I am. Must mean that I didn't recieve any facts. Oh, well. I guess The Jones over there in Dallas doesn't have an online blog for his fans. Just as well...if Boofer is any indication then most CG fans are illiterate. Oh, here is a fact, Fluffer. The Deadskins are the highest grossing team in the NFL. Yes, more than your pathetic "America's Team." Now that is a meaningful stat. The good has risen once again to defeat the evil as your retarded "facts" are disproven. Face it, Fluffer, our team is more popular than yours. Your team is like the fat kid in the back of the dance who could never get a girl and finally went home to his chocolate cake. Popular people always prevail, and that is what Skinny fans are.

Boofer, let's please leave out discussions of your sexual preference mmmkay?

And really, we don't want your man. Go ahead, keep him. He's all yours.

Posted by: Megskin | September 30, 2006 4:53 PM

24 hours from now, we'll be either 2-2 or 1-3...
in other words, with road games against the mannings looming in the future, our season will be temporarily salvaged, or, at 1-3, we'll be looking forward to NEXT season

nerve-racking, eh???

Posted by: K-Man | September 30, 2006 7:35 PM

Panic post loss? No.
G-men, Titans -- not tough. Colts?
Weeks bring change, this league.

Posted by: HaikuMan Lives (Barely) | September 30, 2006 7:59 PM

Still can't understand why the stupid Boofer prefers to troll our blog.....obviously has nothing better to do. And how he/she has the audacity to say anything about Snyder spending money...how about Jerry Jones????

Anyway, go back to Dallas...we don't want you here.

Posted by: Rainesmaker | September 30, 2006 11:01 PM

Even if the Redskins never win another game against Dallas, it still won't change what happened:

Just keep watching it over and over and over again Boofer.

NiteNite.

I will be drinking lots of alcohol today, but you know why? Because it's Sunday. Not because I have any fear of the Jaguars.

Respect, yes. Fear, no.

Posted by: Ali Haji Shank | October 1, 2006 3:42 PM

jaguars,

skins are going to whip the sorry ass jags.
no amount of boozing will help you.
say, how many super bowls have the jags won? how many super bowl appearances? let me guess, none. that's what i thought. come back when the jags do something meaningful.

Plus 300, 3 touchdowns.
Are you serious?

Posted by: HaikuMan | October 1, 2006 10:39 PM

"the jags D will put a hurting on that pathetic off. you have." How did that work out? Yea, real hurtin. I think Santana is saying, ooh, ouch. Uh, oh, Clinton Portis is reeling after that game. You pathetic jaguar fan will never be back here. I smell -----!

Did anyone else notice that Carlos Rogers gives any man he covers a 7 yard buffer to catch the ball. The Jags tied up the game largely in part to #22 letting the little underneath stuff by to protect against the long pass. I thought this guy was a 1st rounder? Shouldn't he be able to play tight coverage at the end of the game?

Oh yeah, and PUT IN JASON CAMBELL!

Posted by: Dorf | October 2, 2006 2:51 AM

Dorf, I completely agree w/ you with respect to #22's play. He's getting beat regularly by everyone he's covering. That 4 play drive where the jags went from 17 to 24 was attributable to his passive coverage, for sure.

However, putting in Jason Campbell is equal to forfeiting the season. Putting him in now, we won't win more than 6 games. If Mark plays like he did today, with exception to the horrible flea flicker, the skins will be fine.

Posted by: K-Man | October 2, 2006 3:05 AM

I just happened to peek at the schedule for the rest of the season....damn ours is definitely one of the toughest. I'd say the only games we're assured of winning are Tennessee, @ Tampa, and @ StL....aside from that, got G-men and Eagles twice, cowpunks, colts, panthers, falcons, and Saints (on the road).....wow....and i think 10-6 will be needed for playoffs...it's definitely gonna be tough

Posted by: K-Man | October 2, 2006 3:09 AM

BOZO SKINY FANS,NEVER CALL OUT A FAN OF A TEAM THAT WOOOOOOOOOPED YOUR ASS ON NATIONAL TV!!!!!ENJOY YOUR WIN,GOOD GAME, TERRIBLE D FROM 2 THAT ARE SUPPOSE TO BE BETTER.BAD CALL ON FUMBLE,3PTS TO SKINYS,AT HOME EMOTION IN SKINYS FAVOR,DIFFERENCE IN GAME.TOO MANY MISSED TACKLES ON BOTH SIDES TO BLAST ALL OF THEM. I HOPE YOU GUYS CAN CONTINUE AND MAKE THIS RUN EVEN MORE INTERESTING.PEACE OUT!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: BOOFER | October 2, 2006 8:55 AM

The JC comment was some sarcasm... Brunell had 300+ and 3 TDs on one of the stoutest (is that a word?) defenses. I just thought it was funny how panicky we were two weeks ago and now we think Brunell is Brett Favre 10 years ago. Sarcasm doesn't work well in typing, so my apologies K-Man

Posted by: Dorf | October 2, 2006 9:03 AM

Don't worry Dorf, some of us got the sarcasm.

Now, as long as Brunell doesn't revert to the lame thing we saw in the first two weeks I'll stay happy! And after that game yesterday, I am so freaking happy! Yay!

The O-Line was so good it was sickening. The Jags looked like bowling pins being setup and just methodically knocked down.

Posted by: Megskin | October 2, 2006 9:30 AM

Jason: The skins defense actually seemed better at the line of scrimmage this week (despite the score), but seemed to be all but conceding the big play. Carlos Rogers really doesn't seem capable of anchoring the secondary. Does he have what it takes to step up this season, ideally by, say, next week, or do we just have to stick it out until Springs makes it back? How long does it typically take for corners to adjust out of college?

Posted by: Pike | October 2, 2006 2:11 PM

i'm a little slow, didnt pick up on the JC comment. my bad. rogers just has to hold the fort for couple more weeks, right? i just hope that he's back before the Indy game, cause with all the audibles Peyton can do, we're gonna be punished bigtime for the safety blitzes and man-coverages....just like we got beat on Jones-Drew's TD when our defensive MVP Archuleta blitzed...right???

Posted by: K-Man | October 2, 2006 4:31 PM

Rogers had 6 tackles... double what anyone else had. They were passing his way all day long. With 7 yards of separation, why wouldn't they. 5 TCCLs to Byron. That guy has heart and he's a hometown boy. Tough as nails. Classy guy, but I feel no remorse that his momma got to watch him lose yesterday.
