On a More Serious Note - Brunell and Springs
Brunell is a much less cumbersome wrap on his throwing arm today and says his left elbow is feeling better. He plans to throw some passes on the side during practice and is not sure how many drills he will take part in, but is definitely progressing. Practice starts in a few minutes, so I'll let you know what I see.
Looks like Springs is out at least two more weeks. Definitely a no-go for Sunday. The report at the groin specialist in Philly revealed no further injury, but he still has a groin strain to overcome. Probably start working individually with the athletic trainers again next week and try to build up to be able to take part in team drills in practice. Officially, they're calling him day-to-day, for what it's worth. Does that term really hold any meaning anymore?

Wow we are cooked.
Our number 1 corner Carlos "mugger" Rogers on one side and Mike "turnstile" Rumph on the other with Ol' Concrete Feet playing strong safety. The Grim Reaper will be very tired by the end of the first drive.
I'm beginning to miss Gardner, Rod.

no point in crying now...we have what we have and grilliams and saunders each need to find a way to make it work with what they got...thats what geniuses do!
plus injuries are gonna happen...good coaches and teams find a way to get the most out of the bench players and make it work. I think NE had some success with that a couple years back...

MEGGO, SKINZ IS PICTURING U BLOWING SOMTHING ELSE! NOW TO FOOTBALL,DID ANY OF YOU BOZO SKINY FANS EVER THINK THAT IF TAYLOR WENT FOR THE INT,INSTEAD OF THE BIG HIT MORE GAMES COULD BE CHANGED,HE THINKS HIT FIRST, LOOK AT ALL REPLAYS.BIG HITS MAKE HIGHLIGHTS,INTS CHANGE GAMES,HE IS NOT A SMART PLAYER,LIKE LAVAR,STORY WILL END SAME WAY,THAT IS WHY ROY IS, AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE BETTER PLAYER!!!!!!
Posted by: BOOFER | September 28, 2006 3:28 PM
Deadskins,
You forget, Billy from Boston had something called draft picks so his backups weren't scrubs. We spend all our money on free agents.
As for praying for the whole genius thing well i beleive an ex-redskin said it best:
"Nobody in the game of football should be called a genius. A genius is somebody like Norman Einstein."
Joe Theismann, Former quarterback
Yes I am aware of how bitter I sound at the moment. I'll try and have faith.

I love telling my coworkers they're wrong when they get some old news. JLC lets me know at least 3 times a day all things sensational concerning the Redskins.
Okay, so we don't have Cooley's hair or Portis' characters or an equivalent to a NFL pass defense, but we still have seedy intimate dating services ads on the blog! Stay positive guys and megskin!
Posted by: Dorf | September 28, 2006 3:31 PM
I'm trying to stay positive, but with the way the defense has looked so far I think this game may be relegated to voyeuristic peeps of Cooley's hair and AC's rear.

Your good natured trolling is one thing. Stick to insulting the redskins and not being offensive.

MARK BRUNELL CAN STILL HAND THE BALL OFF TO CLINTON PORTIS WITH THAT ELBOW RIGHT???
MAYBE THE SKINS WILL BE FINE ON SUNDAY.... WITH BALL CONTROL, RUN PORTIS, BETTS, AND CARTWRIGHT ALL DAY AND KEEP OUR DEFENSE OFF THE FIELD. SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD OLD REDSKINS GAME PLAN TO ME... ESPECIALLY IF WE WANT TO WIN. THERE IS NO WAY BRUNELL IS GOING TO GET 22 IN A ROW AGAIN. GO SKINS!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: mrjunkhead | September 28, 2006 3:42 PM
Boofer, did you ask Mommies permission before she let you use the computer again? Please ask her to push the capslock key for you, usually the big button right above the shift key.
When you've done that go and watch Barney, maybe they'll have a show on about learning to use the computer.
By the way, we love how Taylor plays, always going for the hit. Nothing could be better.
Posted by: Megskin | September 28, 2006 3:49 PM
Groin injuries hurt all the time, but mostly when you move your leg, and they KILL when you try to do something like cut. And they need to be fully healed before you play again. I know, I've pulled my groin (stupid 40 degree practices).
So stop saying the defense will get better once springs returns, bc he may not be back soon. The d needs to get better now!
Posted by: Art | September 28, 2006 3:51 PM
Watch the skins lose on tv or go watch the nats lose in person in their last home game (and possibly frank's last game)?
I'm leaning towards taping the skins game and going to give frank a standing o in person.
I love having this choice to struggle with!
Posted by: Options | September 28, 2006 3:54 PM
This thing with Springs seems like LaVar II - these players get rushed back and injure something else and then they can never get back to their normal level of playing all year

SKINZ,YOU MUST HAVE AN IMPEACH CLINTON T-SHIRT IN YOUR CLOSET,MEGGO,I GOT PERMISSION,THANKS FOR REMINDING ME,AND I TIVO BARNEY!!AS FOR TAYLOR IF PLAYING STUPID GETS THE FANS ALL JUICED UP THEN ENJOY THE LOSING!!

Boofer, you are a poster boy for an experiment in home schooling gone horribly wrong. What's this obsession with Sean Taylor? He knock your Daddy down and make him cry or something?
Oh hey, I think Clifford is on WETA-Kids, go run along and watch now why we adults discuss stuff.
Posted by: Megskin | September 28, 2006 4:07 PM
Hey Boffer King Cap, You must be one of the biggest idiots if you think Roy and I'm assuming you are speaking of the Cowboy's Roy Williams is the best safety. When have you seen him cover anybody, he gets burned in coverage more than my wife's Sunday morning toast. One more thing I know what caused TO's allergic reaction. It was seeing Sean Taylor over his shoulder everywhere he went.

Bloglaw: Boofer is now must only be referred to as "Fluffer" because when his Mom throws him out of the house that will be the only thing he's good at after spending so much time in front of his computer.
Fluffer,
You forgot it's a team game.

I think that everyone missed the most important part of this post: that there is someone in Philly who is a "groin specialist."

Posted by: P Diddy | September 28, 2006 4:55 PM
Ok - So Brunell says he's got some strength back in his arm, maybe even enough to toss the ball more than 15 yards down the field. Todd Collins is an over the hill backup, we should never put our hope in him. Our only youthful and slightly athletic QB is Jason Campbell. Springs isn't back; the skins D-line only has 3 sacks on the year; Jacksonvilles D-line is like a brick wall against the run; we lead the league in penalties; and, we have yet to establish a vertical passing game. Yes, I would say our coaches are geniuses if we somehow figure out a way to win this game!!

Posted by: BOOFER | September 28, 2006 5:28 PM
I just have a bad feeling about our team this year. The only one in our secondary I have any faith in is Sean Taylor. Our corners would be no more than nickelbacks on most other teams, and Adam Archuleta is absolutely the worst free agent pick up we've had this offseason. He's absolute liability on coverage, and he's missed a number of tackles this season, which is supposed to be his strength. Andre Carter hasn't done anything this year. We might as well just put Renaldo Wynn back in that spot.
Our QB situation stinks. Brunnell has barely anything left in the tank. He'll have one or two good games this year... but I think gibbs likes him cause he's the most experienced out of our QBs and in his eyes, the likely to make mistakes out of our QBs, but on the flipside he really doesn't do enough on a consistent basis to help us win games. Todd Collins is nothing but a backup. They keep saying Jason Campbell isn't ready to be a starter.
We need a QB in his prime to lead this team. I hear Brady isn't exactly the happiest camper, not having anyone to throw to in New England. Why don't we trade Brunnell, Archuleta, and Andre Carter for Brady? haha. Brady + Our receivers. We can only wish.

Brunell, Archuletta, Carter, Duckett and Boofer for Brady. Let's get rid of all the dead weight while we're at it. Why don't we throw in JayCamp as well; apparently we won't be using him.
Posted by: Megskin | September 28, 2006 5:42 PM
Ugh - I can't deal with the fluffer anymore. You are such a schmuck - if we beat you guys next game I guarantee you won't be on here talking smack. That's what kills me about you cowboys fans - you only show your face when you win. God forbid you actually stand behind your team when you lose.
Please - go away and understand that your franchise sucks. It never was and it will never be an elite, well-respected franchise like the Steelers, Niners or the pre-Danny Boy Skins.

While boofer pokes fun at the "skinny" fans (I guess because we are not overweight from nasty Texas BBQ [Carolina BBQ is by far the best] and don't give the death penalty to someone who jaywalks by mistake, he fails to realizes that his 'Boys do the same thing we do. Who was supposed to win the division or wild card last year, hmmm? How did that work out? Boofer probably cried his little eyes out as Sean Taylor ran that last TD against Phily for a touchdown while the 'Boys lost a miserable game in which Roy Williams (who he is sickly obsessed over [block his calls Roy!]) was a total non-factor. It is great that the only way to validate your team's greatness is by coming to a Skins blog that has nothing to do with Dallas and boasting about winning in the 90's when the NFC East was like jello. So in sum, stop googling Roy Williams in the nude, boofer, and find a Dallas blog where you can talk about T.O. popping 35 painkillers.

I was looking at the wikipedia entry for our buddy, Gardner, Rod and noticed that we got a 6th round pick from Carolina for him.
So, because I am curious (and because unlike the Eastern US, I am still trying to get through my Thursday afternoon workday in California), I looked into what we did with that draft pick.
In the 6th round, with pick # 196 in the draft we took Kedrick Golston -- the same Kedrick Golston who now has 1 more tackle than Andre Carter (6.0 to 5.0 according to nfl.com) and a fumble recovery.
Who says we don't know how to draft? When we keep our picks we sure now how to use them!
Here's the sixth round in detail if you are strangely interested or trying to get through the rest of your Thursday at work:

So this is best place to go for this question:
I'm online filling in the holes of my cd collection, and I need to make a decision between the Essential Iron Maiden (2 cd collection) or Maiden, Best of the Beast (only 1 cd).
Opinions? Advice? Jason, can you ask Cooley tomorrow?
Posted by: On a more serious note, indeed | September 28, 2006 9:55 PM
bro, I did not kpow there was a two disc best of. For an individual album - 666 The Number of the Beast - is pretty awesome.
Best of the Beat Rocks, but it has a few cuts with the dude who replaced Dickinson on a few cuts, and is almos missing "Flight of Icarus," which to me is imposssible to fathom. That has to be on any best of.
So I say splurge for the two disc set - unless it has a stuff from the period when Bruce was not with them.
Make sense?

Reading Czabe.com this morning he noted some interesting facts. Here are Brunell's passes with no YAC just how far they were actually thrown:
Note: "+/-" refers to yards beyond or behind the line of scrimmage in the air. Run after catch is not noted here.
-2 Portis
-1 Moss
+3 Lloyd
+1 Cooley
-5 Randle El
0 Sellers
-2 Sellers
+3 Portis
-2 Cooley
+7 Betts
+6 Moss
+17 to Randle El (NOTE: This catch was wiped out by a Skins penalty, but must be noted, the pass was a STONE COLD interception, that was flat out dropped by a Texan, and then caromed to Randle El.)
-4 Cooley
+26 Patten (NOTE: A good strong throw, but only because he had nothing to lose at end of half. Also threw it high, and nearly got him killed. FWIW.)
+3 Lloyd
+6 Randle El
-3 Moss
+2 Sellers
-5 Betts
+2 Moss
+6 Lloyd
+6 Moss
-2 Moss
INCOMPLETE
INCOMPLETE
+2 Cooley
-4 Betts
Now again, I'm not knocking a gameplan that works, and this one did. But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves and think this will work against most decent (or better) teams.

I have it from a very good source which I can't reveal...but it's legit...that the cut on Brunell's arm was very deep. We will see how long he lasts.

The only reason you skins fan bust on Boofer is becuase he does bring that facts - the right facts that is. And when you can't come up with a rebutall to his facts you bust on him for the use of All Caps and other things that are irrelevant to what is really bothering you ALL and that is that you can not counter his facts especially you Macaca Johnson. Get your facts staright then you won't have to be so upset at Boofer for being right all the time
Posted by: Reality Bites | September 29, 2006 1:54 PM
Reality Bites,
Fluffer doesn't bring up facts. Name a "fact" that Fluffer brought up? I don't see any? He says ST gave up three TD's. I looked all over NFL.com and dont' see that stat.
I'm going to give you a hint. Take it or leave it. In life many people will state "facts". My suggestion is that you remain skeptical of them.
Remember, 87.654% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
Posted by: Skinz | September 29, 2006 3:35 PM

Skinz: your comment:Remember, 87.654% of all statistics are made up on the spot - I guess you would know since you skin fans MAKE UP stats on the skins all the time as for you Megskin: once again comments that have nothing to do with the skins because you have nothing worth stating other than the obvious you know way to much about crack so take your own advise.
For those of us who are truly educated with the NFL and it's standing this is straight from the history books folks:
"The Dallas Cowboys franchise is the most successful in the history of the National Football League. In their 40 years of existence, the Cowboys have 27 winning seasons (and 2,000 seasons), made the playoffs 26 times, won 18 division championships, and participated in eight of the 34 Super Bowls, winning 5 of them. Between 1966 and 1985, the Cowboys had 20 consecutive winning seasons. In the Super Bowl years (since 1966), the Dallas Cowboys have the best record of any football team as shown in the Summary of Franchise Records. Simply put, the road to the Super Bowl leads through Dallas. Some love the Cowboys, others don't. One thing is for sure-everyone has an opinion about the Cowboys. The Cowboys have the nickname "America's Team." Every year another team reaches up and tries to claim this nickname"

Now we know why Springs was let go by Seattle. Sure he is talented, but it does no good when he can't get out on the field. We needed a revamp at corner this past season, not safety! I miss Ryan Clarke sooooooo much compared to that sick joke of a safety Matt Bow... I mean Aruchuleta. The little chemistry we had on defense the past 2 years is gone and Carter is reminisscent of Dana Stubblefied in his underproduction. Unbelievabe! Hopefully we still have enough money in the future to retain some of our key players, but where are Smoot, Pierce, and Clarke when you need them?
