T.O. Update

So 5 seconds after I post that blog entry I check my email inbox and I get this piece of trash from some marketing idiot trying to make a buck off this fiasco. It's this kind of stuff that makes a me ill.

Here's the press release

"Hi Jason,
Terrell Owens, the Dallas Cowboys' star wide receiver and drama magnet du jour, is in the news again - and not for crossing the goal line...
Dallas authorities this morning reported that T.O. has allegedly attempted suicide. What implications will this have on his career and future marketability?
Darren Prince, CEO of Prince Marketing Group ( www.princemarketinggroup.com ) is available to speak with you on the subject. Working with the likes of Magic Johnson, Dennis Rodman, Roy Jones Jr., Joe Frazier, amongst others, Darren Prince has built a successful career out of working with some of America 's most infamous sports and pop culture icons.
"I don't think this incident will hurt T.O.'s marketability at all," says Darren Prince. "If anything, it shows his human side. Dennis Rodman attempted suicide in 1994 and he is still a very sought after entity today."

With more than 10 years of experience in the sports industry, Darren Prince is the expert to speak with on the topic of managing troubled athletes. To arrange an interview with Darren Prince, please contact me at"

I cut the phone number off but I was tempted to leave it on there and let you guy flood the nozzle who sent me this thing, but I thought better of it. People like this are the real publicity mongers.

Sounds like this guy and TO deserve each other. And I want to give a great big thumbs up to dallass for taking a chance on this guy. Way to go.

And the sad thing is, this guy proably sees nothing wrong with sending out this blast

GEEZ

JLC it is good to know that somebody doesn't just look at money. Two thumbs up my friend.

I don't see anything wrong with that marketer's take. He's basically saying that this doesn't have to torpedo TO's future. It's not like the guy wants to make a commercial about Owens trying to kill himself.

I realize that you have to be politically correct and make it all about human life but there's no reason to self-righteously attack someone who actually sounds like he wants to help TO maintain his ability to make money in the wake of this.

Lavar is done, no? I liked the part about getting him back to what he did for the redskins. I was thining, "when, in 2003?" Good riddance, I say.

Colin, sounds like the same old story with LaVar; no one seems to know what to do with him. Wish we could have kept him and found someway to use him.

Rico, could you be a little more naive. This guy is trying to get himself quoted in major noewspapers to get more publicity for his company. It has nothing to do with TO. We don't even know the facts yet and this numbkskull, who has no relationship to TP whatsoever, is making comments about it and trying to make a name off of it.
Trying to help TO? Please.

Darren Prince = Bob Sugar?

Throughout my career, I've always had one or two people who work for me that have all the talent in the world, but I've never found a way to use them properly. I used to think it was me and spent countless hours trying to figure out what the heck I was doing wrong.

Over time, what I've learned is that you give people an opportunity to do what they excel at, and if they don't seize that opportunity and exploit it to its fullest, they have no one else but themselves to blame. Often, it wasn't because I didn't use them properly, rather it was because I put them in a position to succeed but they spent too much time dreaming of the big thing, and not enough doing the little things that makes a professional, a professional.

I suspect LaVar is one of those guys who has a ton of talent but is a constant source of befuddlement for his coaches. He's like the smart kid who constantly gets C's. At what point do you say, "Gee, you're really smart and all. Now I need you to prove it." I'm sure that's what the 'Skins coaching staff concluded and that's why they found him expendable.

It's funny to me how much football is like business. Everyone, no matter who you are, has to be able and willing to block, tackle, and do all the little things.

My two cents on LaVar...having never met him or talked to him, of course.
