Injuries, Again

Salave'a upgraded to probable. Had another good day of practice.
Also, Gregg Williams lavished a lot of praise on Springs and Vincent. I'm thinking Shawn starts and Vincent is involved in some packages.
Griffin still not getting through a full practice. Looking iffy.
Sellers did not practice and had a wrap on his right elbow, but says he will play. He is probable and so is Patten. Dockery practiced and said his hip is not bad and he'll play too.

Any word on if Clinton is in garb this week?

Posted by: FattyMcGee | October 19, 2006 4:02 PM

The line almost seemed better when Golston was in for Salavea, but with Griffin in.

I'll be very surprised if Vincent isn't in. Has anyone heard what kind of deal he got anyway? I assume you can't pay him in draft picks.

Posted by: Rich from Salisbury | October 19, 2006 4:05 PM

Rich,

According to published reports we got him in a three way deal. We got Vincent, we gave next years 1st rounder to Denver and the Pats got denver's 6th rounder in 2008.

When Vinny contacted Shanahan and offered him the deal he responded by saying "Troy who? Oh right right Troy Vincent uh sure 1st and 6th sound good"

Vincent got a 2 mill signing bonus. Most of his money is in incentives though. I know he gets a roster bonus if he's still on the team tomorrow. If he shows up at the bank he gets like 2.5 mill next year or something.

J La C-
I need you to use your insider skillz to get some info for me. I just got an email forward of a document, supposedly penned by The Red Snapper himself, Ethan Albright. It is addressed to John Madden and it basically blasts Madden for rating Albright the worst in the NFL. It is hilarious. I won't try to post here b/c there are multiple curse words and I assume your editors would cut it out pretty quickly. However, I need to know if Albright is indeed the one who wrote this hilarious memo. If so, he is my new favorite Redskin!

Thanks for your help! If this has already been discussed on the blog, my apologies to everyone.

Posted by: BooferSux | October 19, 2006 4:14 PM

BooferSux, I've seen that letter.

It's hilarious but I'm sure The Red Snapper didn't write it.

Posted by: Clinton HIll | October 19, 2006 4:15 PM

Boofersux,

It's been discussed. If you read it from the website it was posted on it says the author's name. It's not Ethan Albright. At least according to that site.

Grilliams emphasized that "ALL" the CBs practiced -- does that include Rogers?

Re: Vincent's deal...

From http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

VINCENT GOT $250,000 TO SIGN

A league source tells us that the Redskins paid safety Troy Vincent a $250,000 signing bonus as part of the three-year deal that he signed on Monday, only four days after being released from injured reserve by the Bills.

Vincent also will earn roughly $475,000 in salary from the Redskins, based on the 10-week proration of his $810,000 salary.

So in a season that was preceded by efforts from the Bills to get Vincent to reduce his 2006 salary of $2.6 million, Vincent comes out of it with the full $2.6 million from the Bills, another $250,000 from the 'Skins, and another $524,000 if he finishes the season as part of the team.

Maybe the Bills should treat G.M. Marv Levy like the Yankees treated George Costanza, and wake him up only for the important meetings.

Posted by: CMoney | October 19, 2006 4:18 PM

Thanks for the info Skinz and Clinton. It was indeed a hilarious document. It still makes me want to go out and get a Red Snapper Jersey!

Posted by: BooferSux | October 19, 2006 4:21 PM

That really doesn't sound too horrible, especially compared to some of the other signings.

At least he knows how to cover a WR, even if he still can't do it and it didn't cost any draft picks.

Posted by: Rich from Salisbury | October 19, 2006 4:23 PM

Vincent got a 3 year deal. We gave him 250K to sign and he'll earn a prorated portion of the vet minimum (810K) for this season. According to profootballtalk, he'll make $1.375 million in 2007 and $1.5 million in 2008.

Looks like it's structured such that if we cut him at the end of the season there will be no cap hit. Basically, a one-year deal with a team option for 2 more.

Posted by: Joe in Raleigh | October 19, 2006 4:25 PM

It'll be funny (or sad) when Vincent and his $250K signing bonus is starting over Archie and his $10M signing bonus.

Posted by: CMoney | October 19, 2006 4:25 PM

oops. someone beat me to it.

Posted by: Joe in Raleigh | October 19, 2006 4:26 PM

Thank God JLC changed the blubject (blog subject). I was going to stab my thighs if AHS had posted another Redskins draft...

Posted by: ArtMonkToTheSticks | October 19, 2006 4:29 PM

To heck with Vincent, I say we gas up Snyder Force One and jet off to Miami...I heard we can steal Duante Culpepper for 2 first rounders and a mill in cash!
Sorry fellas, my "Inner Cerrato" made me do it...

Just let it be said that The Red Snapper is probably the single greatest nickname in 'Skins history.

I love "The Diesel", "The Hogs", and "The Posse". But those guys were all stars. Albright?

It also proves how great a football town DC is. We give nicknames and full reverence to our long snapper.

Sigh, I miss being in a real city...

Three days til indy
Brunell is still gimpy
All is back to mediocre.

I'd forgotten we suck
now its time to run the duck
and keep payton off the field.

Its time for the secondary
to play better than ordinary
and the reaper to reappear.

Now lets root for the skins
for sure they will win
cause if they dont our season is over.

Hail To The Redskins!

If you check out Redskins history, you will see that this is exactly the type of game we will win. Sounds crazy, but somehow this is where Gibbs is able to conjure up something behind closed doors and the players come out and play the game of their lives. It won't matter who is filling in on defense, things will work out. As you watch the game Sunday, keep track of all the breaks that bounce our way because, I'm telling you, this team will win Sunday and it doesn't matter how many excuses the Colts will give, the end result will be a Skins "W". Then the bye week will re-energize the team and we will go on one of those streaks that gets a team into the playoffs. Just watch.

Posted by: Groin Strain | October 19, 2006 5:24 PM

I think Cyrus sounds like a good candidate to invest in Six Flags entertainment corp!

Posted by: Bob-Ashburn, VA. | October 19, 2006 5:26 PM

Cyrus - I'm drinking half a glass of your kool aid because I do it every week.

I'm saving the other half because it's Peyton Manning and the Cowboys at FedEx always demands some kool aid.

so i guess no CP characters today.
how are we supposed to string some wins together without them? Of course one of his characters has to die in NYC every year, then the rest of the year we're gravy.

Steinberg's blog is better. He actually puts thought into the numerous (in comparison) words he posts.

Posted by: Ramblin | October 19, 2006 6:20 PM

Steinberg's blog is better

Ooooh, first rock of a potential blogwar!

Quick, gotta think up something smartass. .... hmmm...well, if it's so good why don't you keep your a** over there then, or is Bog generating so many commentposts that in your need for attention you scamper over here?

Just passing a message to Ramblin

"Now, that's what I'm talking about. You come into our house, you should get your behind kicked. You don't come into the RI playing that stuff. You're across the ocean over there. You're across the city. You can't come over to our place talking noise like that. You'll get your butt beat. I was about to go down the elevator to get in that thing."

Let the beatings commence.

I'd haiku about beatings, Megskin, but my sense of humor has translated into me having a creepy rep here, so you're on your own!

my sense of humor has translated into me having a creepy rep here

What? Since when? Let the haikus fly, please!

Posted by: Megskin | October 19, 2006 8:36 PM

Meg - I'm open for suggestions on topics/formats I could do over the long two week bye period.....maybe a Redskins themed chapter Canterbury tale....ixnay on a sonnet, tho....

Posted by: HaikuMan | October 19, 2006 9:19 PM

How about Tanka's! For all you haiku guys it's a 5-7-5 7-7 pattern, not the normal 5-7-5. Taken from wikipedia: "5-7-5 phrase (the "upper phrase") and the 7-7 phrase (the "lower phrase") generally show a shift in tone and subject matter."

Subject Matter: Well, that all depends on how Sunday goes, doesn't it? I think we could go from dark, dour and moody to happy and hopeful.

Posted by: Megskin | October 19, 2006 9:39 PM

okay you fools...vinny's got the best blog...boy he can talk! information overload for me man! i know how many scouts they have and what their names and social security numbers are...

haiku, if you can teach me to write a haiku you can teach anyone/anything.

Posted by: dealer | October 19, 2006 9:46 PM

About the Redskin Themed Canterbury tales: could perhaps do 'The Kickers Tale', 'The QBs Tale', 'The LBs Tale', or pepper them with famous Redskins and their tale.

Posted by: Megskin | October 19, 2006 9:57 PM

What's the bog? How the comments going over there?

No seriously, to compare the two is kind of silly. That's Steinberg's entire job; he'd better be putting thought into it. It's paying the bills.
I'm squezing this in when I can while also handling one of the more stressful beats in pro sports. Trust me, every day ain't gonna be a winner over here on this blog. Just think of me like the Redskins offense - when it's good, pretty good and when it's bad, yikes.

Oh yeah, and the Red Snapper was definitely not behind that letter. Saw it a few weeks back. It is pretty hilarious.

Meg, you might be on to something....

Beats banging my head against the wall trying to write a villanelle....ah but they are my favorite....

Posted by: HaikuMan | October 19, 2006 10:18 PM

Dealer:

Haikus have 17 syllables over three lines in a 5-7-5 pattern. The traditionally are pastoral in nature (pun!) and are written to evoke serenity in the reader. As someone correctly pointed out many moons ago, I've actually been writting srenyus, which have the same format but ditch the peaceful imagery for witticism and sarcasm. Right up my alley.

Limericks are whimsical poems that rhyme the first 2 lines with the last, with a rhyming couplet in between. While rhyming is required, the beat and flow is just as important with hard, stressed syllables working best at the end of each line.

OK that's as deep as I'll go! :)

Oh, and in case you are wondering (and I know you're not, but I could be giving a detailed description of how dogs are put to sleep)...

A villanelle is a VERY complex poem that I won't go into great detail on other to say that the most famous villanelle is also arguably the best poem in any form ever written: Dylan Thomas' "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night." Now that is ART.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

haiku, thanks. i'm going to try it but have some shizzle to deal with right now.
