Let's Be Real
Let's do an exercise together, shall we, in a nod to our glorious school days of yore?
Turn with me to page E10 of today's Washington Post if you will. For those of you outside the beltway, or anyone who forgot to bring his or her workbook with them to class, any suitable NFL standings will suffice. Now, skim past W and L columns and Home and Away and look over at the column that reads: NFC. Glance down at the conference records of all the teams below and note how the Redskins, at 1-4, are bunched with Tampa Bay (1-5), Arizona (1-6), and Detroit (1-6).
That folks, if what they are, and that's why playoff talk will be banned from the blog for the foreseeable future.
The Redskins are at least two games behind the rest of the conference in NFC record. They have been passed by San Francisco for goodness sakes. As Mike Nolan intimated after Washington traded for Brandon Lloyd and pursued Andre Carter in free agency, the 49ers franchise hasn't exactly been setback by their departures and wasn't exactly fighting to keep them.
Now, let's go back and look at who the Redskins have played. I think we can agree that Dallas and Philly are pretty mediocre teams. Minnesota cannot beat anyone, has major issues moving the ball and has slumped to 4-5. Tennessee is a competitive 2-7, if that makes sense, but 2-7 nonetheless.
Washington has played nine games thus far, and has three wins. Only once have they been undoubtedly the better team on game day, when they pummeled Houston, a very bad football team in its own right.
The two biggest plays of the year were the coin toss against Jacksonville - let's be honest, neither defense was stopping anyone at that point in that game and whoever got the ball first in OT was going to win - and Troy Vincent's miracle kick block against the Cowboys. That's not a good sign of things to come.
Realistically, this team could be facing major questions at vital positions like QB, CB, DT, DE, LB, K and P this offseason. Again, not a good place to be.
The penalties have become comical and some of those waiting to anoint the Reaper should think long and hard about what progress, if any, he has made from last season to this season. The organizations has coddled him and protected him during his various legal snafus, and built him up relentlessly, and in return he continues to take mindlessly selfish penalties that have become all too easy to predict, while still suffering in coverage.
See Sean get beat in coverage, wait for the inevitable late hit or facemask on the next possession. I'm sorry, but if you take a safety 5th overall, you'd better get Ed Reed or Bob Saunders. Reaper is not there yet. Not close.
Carlos Rogers at ninth overall could prove to be a big stretch, too. And Jason Campbell being benched beyond all belief, that doesn't speak too well to the young, future core of this team. Cooley is legit, but in this inept offense no one is able to make an impact week after week. Looks to me like they'll be rebuilding, again.
Randoms: Jetta was unscathed but took about 4 hours to get home with the rain and construction depays. Ended up on Rte. 40 for a long stretch and had to take Howard all the way out to Fairfax to drop him off before heading back to Arlington. HB owes me big time. He'd better show up here with that sub like he promised ... Got home just in time ot see that 108-yard return last night, man, that was wild ... Anyone using injuries as an excuse for the Redskins is being naive. What the Giants are going through, losing another starter or two last night for the season, that's injury problems. What the Redskins have experienced is a normal year up here in the NFL.

That was a great game. Fun to watch two teams that actually want to play football and are "fighting their guts out" to win.
Redskins suck across the board; how there could be anything to discuss is beyond me. Call me when something happens.

Amen Jason- I'll admit that prior to the Philly game I thought to myself "now that the D's completely healthy and the team has a little confidence coming off the Dallas win, it's possible to rattle off a few wins and get right back in the mix." Then, I watch the first 5 miuntes of the game and am snapped right back to reality like a rubber band. What a joke. We will be rebuilding for the forseable future.....which doesn't sound promising either since WE HAVE NO DRAFT PICKS. Pathetic.

It's silly that Taylor, a 3rd year player, still won't answer to the media after games. He forces his teammates make up lame excuses for him by refusing any accountability. I wonder how long Washington and Wynn will continue to defend him?
Posted by: Joe in Raleigh | November 13, 2006 12:02 PM
Wow, I'm getting tired of people telling me today "at least we'll have a good draft pick next year..."
I say Saunders just runs Duckett from here on out. 1st and 10, run Duckett, 2nd and 15, run Duckett, 3rd and 20, run Duckett.
4th and long, let Duckett punt. At leat get your money's worth out of him. If anyone comments that the season is not lost and the gloom and doom needs to end and that JLaC should stop being so negative... were you under a rock yesterday?? My head still hurts.
Posted by: Dorf | November 13, 2006 12:04 PM
If Spurrier was doing the coaching right now, with the same calls, or Marty. There would be calls for their head. Its about time Gibbs is held up to some standard.
JLA- it is going to be hard to rebuild this coming year since we traded off all of our picks. We all know what is coming, signing a bucnh of turds who have nice names but are once again past their prime.
This again goes back to Gibbs, he likes older vets and dealing through free agency, unlike the school of Belichick which promotes building through the draft. Gibbs seems like that stubborn old man who afraid to throw away his Beta player, who let the VHS pass him by because it was too fancy, and thinks DVD's are the work of the Devil!!! He is happy with his Beta and damn anyone who tells him different.

No "e" in Lohmiller. He and Rypien were my two favorite players of that era (well, other than Art Monk and Darrell Green, both of whom were Gods among men, not merely players). The whole showing up to a Caps game to skate and shoot around before the Super Bowl is a priceless memory.
Posted by: P Diddy | November 13, 2006 12:11 PM
One note that probably has no effect on their play but shows you what direction this organization is going in - The players throughout the year have insisted on wearing these white on white uni's. The color of the uniforms should have no effect on how you play, but the fact that the players are seemingly still concerned with how they look as opposed to how they are playing is indicitive of a disfunctional franchise. it was cute last year when they won 5 straight games and got into the playoffs with them. It is disgusting when they are the highest paid team and 3-6, scoring only 9 offensive points in 3 divisional road games.
Posted by: Jack | November 13, 2006 12:11 PM
Jla- Why dont one of you reporters ask Gibbs a question after the next loss, but then when he is about to answer go,"Oh right you need to look at the tape", then snicker. If every reporter does this maybe he will see how retarded he look in these post games. I swear it is worse than politicians trying to speak.
We dont need to look at the tapes, the announcers of the games dont need to look at the tapes, the reporters font need to look at the tapes to see whats wrong. If he is that blind lets chip in and buy him a new pair of glasses.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 13, 2006 12:12 PM
amen about the Reaper stuff. Have you asked Coach Williams about this Jason? I've read that Williams considers Taylor to be the best player (maybe talent-wise) he's ever coached, yet this year he's been a negative influence, rather then an all-pro. This is stunning to me.
Posted by: Jake | November 13, 2006 12:13 PM
Now that the season's a wash, can we see Jason Campbell in action? Please? At least if we see what he can do over the next 7 games, we'll know if we have our quarterback of the future or the next Heath Shuler. It would be a shame if Gibbs left in Brunell to get moral victories.
Posted by: throbster | November 13, 2006 12:15 PM
Okay, when can we realistically expect Gibbs to go with Campbell? I even have Dallas fans at work who are sympathetic saying "They should just do what we're doing with Romo." I'd rather be losing with Campbell learning the offense and getting some experience. And who knows? Maybe he'd provide a spark and win some games. BTW - Someone tell Saunders that it's easier to run North-South in a mud game than it is to go outside and slip trying to get to the corner. Duckett got 12 yards on his bust up the gut. And then we decided to throw. Yay.

Hi Jason, don't you wish you were still covering the Capitals :) at least they play hard every night and they have a franchise player in Alex Ovechkin. Next season they will be a playoff team (they might even sneak in this season) Let's go Caps!
Posted by: blushfilms | November 13, 2006 12:17 PM
P Diddy, the point i was trying to make was not about how the white uni's suck, its that they shouldnt be concerned with how they look when they are this bad. I wouldnt care if they went out dressed like the hoggettes if they were a winning team. These guys shouldnt either. Also, the fact that Gibbs lets this happen and caves to his players demand in spite of all the problems they have is a sign as to who is running the asylum
Posted by: Jack | November 13, 2006 12:18 PM
IT'S TIME FOR JASON CAMPBELL!
While everyone was calling for Brunell's head after every loss since October I stayed away from making such a decision. I said to myself that as long as the Skins were still relatively in the playoff hunt and Brunell didn't do anything to directly lose a game then it wasn't right to make the switch.
After yesterday the redskins are no longer realistically in the playoff hunt and Brunell had probably his worst game of the season. good qbs don't do that in must-win games.
So why not switch to Campbell now? Can brunell really argue the decision based on how played sunday? Plus, playing Tampa Bay away would not only allow us to see whether Campbell has the poise to be a long-term starter. but also, it's a very winnable game (TB is only 2-6 remember?).
So let's as fans start putting some real pressure on Gibbs to start Campbell this week...
Posted by: doctorj085 | November 13, 2006 12:20 PM
If Gibbs doesn't make a QB change today, he deserves all the criticism in the world. There is no reason to play him anymore.
Posted by: Kyle | November 13, 2006 12:20 PM

P-Diddy,
You know what I mean though. I dont like Parcells, but I have to give him, credit for pulling "his" guy for a player that gave them a better chance. Even though they lost to us you cant knock his decision for pulling Bledsoe. No one in their right mind in the NFL would question Gibbs if he pulled Brunell out. They are questioning now why he hasnt done so.
I agree with Gibbs on one point, its all around, true. The defense is looking like garbage, or I should say continuing to look like garbage. But how many times yesterday did we have the ball in Philly territory. If we are paying Al saunders 2 million to call swing right swing left, pay me 100k to call hook and ladders and draws, and counter tre's. Or I will call more deep plays to expose Brunells weakness to Gibbs.

we need to know what we got going into the off season...
i fear we are going to give up all our draft picks to pick up trent green...who is going to get clobbered by LaVar in Game 1 vs. Giants next year and retire with Aikman for 1 too many cuncussions...
we should go after Brady Quinn!!!

"Realistically, this team could be facing major questions at vital positions like QB, CB, DT, DE, LB, K and P this offseason. Again, not a good place to be."
You went on to mention Sean Taylor, but surely S has to be a major need... maybe more so than CB. The safeties are the ones letting people run by them like they're standing still.
I've been following the Redskins for the last six years since I moved out to California. But I am about to let go of my childhood memories and find a new team to follow. (Is it possible?) It's not worth it to pay for NFL Ticket for these guys. They're not even competitive anymore. This is going to take a lonnnnnggggg time to fix.
They may never fix it. As people have said, "If Gibbs can't fix it... who can?" And it's obviously not the fault of the coaches. They all, most especially Saunders, have too good of a resume for their skills to be doubted. But they're not the ones on the field. They're not the ones who can't execute.

JLa,
Great read... and thank you for pointing out the horrendous play of Sean Taylor. He is horrible. If you want to see great safety play, take a look at Dawkins running around the field, or Ed Reed like you mentioned. Taylor isn't even close.
Worst part about it is that a) he's not even close to being the highest paid safety on our team... that person doesn't play anymore and is now the special teams captain (hilarious) and b) he'll go somewhere else after his contract and/or demand to be traded and become a star.
As for your other points, you're right... Rogers blows. Add him and Campbell to the list of players who will blossom in other cities.

The curse of the squire lives on! Let me guess, Eternal Optimists. There is still hope of great things to come. Our unified fandom energies will elevate this team beyond its apparent and excessive flaws. The fact that every other play was either a draw on 3rd and 15, a screen on 2 and 8 or a brunell roll-out to the left for toss to the sidelines, should not cause us to think critically about this teams play. The fact that Marty put up 49 with a less talented offense should not arouse any ire. The fact we are destined to blow this team up again either with new FAs or new coaches is nothing to fret over.
I hate the AFC, but i may have to start watching that team up north. You know the one that was struggling on offense and made an adjustment which...tada!... affected the teams play in a positive fashion.

I was oh-so-close to getting Chargers season tickets and discontinuing my 'Skins tickets when Snyder pulled a rabbit out of his hat and re-hired St. Joe.
Now I'm thinking the ol' Lightning Bolts may not be so bad a bet after all.
Personally, if I ever switch allegiances, it'll be to the Broncos. They have a highly knowledgeable fan base, great coach, and all of the 'Skins draft picks.

Offense production when the game is in play. Dallas, 1FG. NYG 1FG. Indy 1TD. Philly 1FG. That is half the schedule where the offense put up only 1 score. But Joe Gibbs has committed the sin that will get him fired. With games out of reach at Indy and Philly, he failed to put in Campbell and let him try to develop. If Campbell is so bad you can't get him some experience at the end of a blowout. Then you need to fire him as incompentent personnel mgr. If you do not develop him. Then you fire Joe as coach.

so would it make you feel better if gibbs fired himself as the HC and still remained the team president. as a fan HELL NO. i've seen enough of this movie. this aint the same joe.

Dear Redskins Fans,
I really, really struggled yesterday. It was embarrassing, to say the least. I needed to have a Jacksonville-type of game, and I didn't. Boy, those Eagles can blitz, can't they? I'm afraid of getting sacked, so I really only look at the shortest option that I can. If Todd or Jason were running the offense, especially Jason with that arm, Al's plays would look much, much better. Those guys can get the ball where it needs to be on time, not me.
Sincerely,
Mark

JLa - One question, in thinking about the next offseason overhaul and subsequent disaster that will take place starting this Spring: What is the contract status of some of the big name players? Are they going to try to rework some of the big name contracts, i.e. Portis, Samuels, Moss - and possibly cut/lose those players because of the salary cap hit?
Posted by: Jack | November 13, 2006 12:40 PM
Hook and ladder all the way. I worked it with my 8th graders during some free time and that albino kid took it to the house. If some scrawny albino kid can score with it, could you imagine Moss or Randel El????

""....this team could be facing major questions at vital positions like QB, CB, DT, DE, LB, K and P this offseason.""
Add OL and TE to that also Jason.
This team is a mess all the way through.
Anyone mentioning "playoffs" should be smacked in the head. Campbell and Duckett should both start the rest of the year, but it's not gonna happen.

Biggest need on defense is LBs. Every LB on this team not named Marcus Washington is below average. Look at the great D's and you will find great LBs. They are the lifeblood of any defense. Lemar and Warrick are both playing terrible football.
Biggest need on offense is a QB, followed very closely by a new Center. And I am SO FRIGGIN SICK of the swing pass. Okay, so it worked a couple times versus Indy and once versus the Girls -- note to Al Saunders and M-Bru, the opposing teams actually watch tape of the Skins before they play us and have figured out that when Betts is in, the swing pass is a 90% certainty. And how is it that Gibbs turns the offense over to a passing-game-specialist, adds two solid WRs and the passing game GETS WORSE? Lloyd is right to be pissed, by the way, because whenever they get him the ball, he just makes plays.
And can somebody please explain to me why Rogers was playing 10 yards off the line in EVERY SINGLE third and short situation? I can understand one or two of them, when his safety help was blitzing, but there isn't an easier pass to complete than the 5 yard slant when the WR has a 10 yard cusion. Unless M-Bru is your QB, of course.
One word sums up this season and this team: PATHETIC.
Posted by: CMoney | November 13, 2006 12:45 PM
Jack,
I think we're already 1 mill over the projected cap for next year. This does not count signing draft picks (sorry, I mean draft pick - not plural), dead money for releasing players like Archuleta, and firing up Redskin One to sign more crappy free agents.
So yes, we will have to beg our players to renegotiate deals just like we were going to have to do last year before the CBA passed. It truly is sad.
There are so many good teams out there who will be coming off a playoff season and will have 10, 20, 30 million of cap space. We will be 4-12 and be in the red before free agency even starts.
Danny, Vinny, Space Cowboy Gibbs, you guys have run this franchise into the ground. Thank you!!!!!!!
Posted by: Ricky Bobby | November 13, 2006 12:48 PM
Man, this is sooo depressing.....I cannot think of one positive thing to hang my hat on for the future of this franchise, they are so screwed by either the cap or the lack of draft choices, and Snyder has no damned clue how to run a franchise....even if he were to hire a GM, it would take him at least 3 years to get out of the hell Danny boy and his yes man have put us in.........frankly, I am done with this team, this franchise...until Snyder sells the skins, or hires a GM to begin the healing, I am officially a Raven's fan.....I'm a Maryland boy from birth anyway, skin's fans, start the chant at the next home game: SELL THE TEAM....SELL THE TEAM....SELL THE TEAM......and if Brunell even sets foot once on the field: WE WANT CAMPBELL....WE WANT CAMPBELL....WE WANT CAMPBELL............good luck in the future folks.......I'm out of here for the foreseeable future........a pox on Snyder and his house..........

Skins' player's contract status: http://www.skinsfans.com/pcinoz/Salaries%20Pages%20Summary.html
They'll have some work to do to free up significant money for free agency, but should be able to do it. M-Bru retiring would certainly help.

I hate to say this, since alot of you folks hated Spurrier while he was here. But during those horrible years in the 90's I always relied on my college team to get me through the football season. Last year the skins gave me hope again and I relied on my pro team. IT gave me great hope for this year as well.
Now I have regressed back to my college team again. At least when Spurrier coached them we knew he never would give up and opt to go deep to get us back into a game. If the QB blew, he was out faster than a fan would ever guess. I am seriously considering just watching college and leaving the NFL until next year when my hopes are once again stomped on and crushed. For now my college team is in the hunt for the national title, but they too will probably end up blowing it. But at least they are in the hunt. The only thing I am still holding out hope for is to see that crucial article in the washington post declaring CAMPBELL WILL START!!! With some catchy title playing off the soup like "MMmmmm Mmmmm Good.

Posted by: tigeruppercut | November 13, 2006 12:50 PM
And how is it that Gibbs turns the offense over to a passing-game-specialist, adds two solid WRs and the passing game GETS WORSE?
Because Saunders passing game is all based on timing patterns; something Brunell is not used to. He is scared to death to throw to an empty spot on the field and doesn't trust his receivers to be there.

Several isolated thoughts
Re "...Taylor, a 3rd year player, still won't answer to the media after games. He forces his teammates make up lame excuses for him by refusing any accountability..."
He doesn't have to do it, Redskins management won't require players to respond to the legitimate press (however irrating the questions or reporters may be). And, at today's salaries, why should there be a compulsion to do anything you don't get paid for?
what I find dumber is, and I know it's called advertising, is following the games when Sonny, etc. go to the locker room, after several quick questions/answers, we hear that a million dollar player is getting a DVD player from... or a gift certificate for a mattress, etc. You're paid well, you're a public figure supported by fans admissions, purchasing of merchandise, etc.; answer questions for the limited period necessary and be part of the public relations for the company that pays you and helps you get endorsements, etc.
Second:
I have no problem with Gibbs saying they need to look at the tape; on the field he gets an isolated perspective and may honestly need to get an overview because isolated images don't necessarily give the picture. But, it doesn't seem that there's any depth to the answers after the tape is reviewed.
Third:
And possibly ticking off Redskins fans, or Gibbs fans, if the Hall of Fame committee expected Gibbs to return to coaching, and didn't select him for the Hall when they did, considering his total record to date, would Gibbs get in as easily as he did? Or, based on the total record, not just his previous tenure, should he be in the hall or "just" be candidate along with many others?
Yes, I know Gibbs is a Hall of Fame coach, but it's getting tiring to hear Hall of Fame Coach Joe Gibbs this and Hall of Fame Coach Joe Gibbs that. Yes, he's a Hall of Fame coach based on what he did in a previous work period, he's now reemployed doing the same thing after an absence; instead of constantly referring to him as Hall of Fame coach, let's refer to him as what he is... Coach.

Folks,
No manager worth his/her salt would ever air gripes about an employee (player) publicly. Gibbs and his staff are too classy for that. Behind closed doors, they all know what they did wrong.
How would you like it if your boss publicly scolded you in front of all your co-workers for putting the wrong cover on your TPS reports?
It's not going to happen with this staff.
None of this is to say that I excuse the ineptitude of this team or the lack of results from this staff. But stop looking for a public shaming, it won't happen and it shouldn't happen.

If they were at least fun to watch it wouldn't be so unbearable...but it's like looking at a slow train wreak where you can get out of the way and watch the car slowly get crushed...that's no fun. A long time ago I read where a coach said the following during a rebuilding period:
Season 1) Loose bad
Season 2) Loose good
Season 3) Win bad
Season 4) Win good
Other than a month-and-a-half last year it's been Loose bad. At least under "OSAKA" we scored points (even if it killed Ramsey).

Also, as I said on the previous thread, it is not a reporter's job to "ask the tough questions". Their job is to find and report the truth, which Jason and Howard have done consistently.
The truth is what it is: this is a bad team, with poor management, and the wrong players. Once again, this organization fell for the trap of signing marquee free agents instead of growing the team from within. It's lather, rinse, repeat for the last 4 head coaches of this franchise.
Posted by: P Diddy | November 13, 2006 12:59 PM
The problem with the Redskins is a very simple one. They do not have a clue how to handle personell management. Their owner is delusional and somehow thinks he can quick fix any problem. The key to building a winning franchise is to treat draft picks like they are gold. The Redskins with Snyder as an owner have consistently thrown picks away. As a prime example - To draft Campbell they gave up 3 draft picks. Those picks equate to the following players for Denver - CB Karl Payma and WR Brandon Marshall. Both have put up modest numbers and are primarily special teamers. Brandon Marshall does have a touchdown reception. However, we'll see in a year or two what they develop into. San Francisco ended up after a trade with Denver with LB Manny Lawson. Lawson has 32 tackles and 2 sacks. The Redskins compounded their bad personnel moves by trading up in the 2006 draft for Rocky McIntosh who has 0 tackles. This is a recurring theme with the Redskins. Do you realize what they gave up for Chris Samuels (at one point in time 4 starters on the 49ers including Julian Peterson). What do you think will happen to the third round pick they gave up for Duckett who doesn't even see the field?
Look at the team they lost to yesterday. I know most Redskin fans hate the Eagles, but how have they become a winning team? In case you do not realize it is through drafting and handling draft picks wisely. Want some examples - How about not listening to the media and fans and drafting McNabb over Ricky Williams? How about trading Aj Feeley to the Dolphins for a second round pick and using that pick to draft Reggie Brown. Over the last five years no team has had less draft picks than the Redskins. Their owner continues to believe he is a player or two away from 1982. He overpays free agents and throws draft picks away and the team continues to lose.

CMoney, the LBs that are named Marcus Washington are playing badly, too. He had 1 tackle yesterday. In fact, the only LB that bothered to show up was Holdman. That should speak volumes.

i think alot does fall on the coaches. why on every 3rd and 4, 3rd and 6 was rogers giving a 15 yard cushion? how many times did an eagles reciever run a 6 yard hitch or out to pick up the 1st down with the corner still 2 steps away.
how many times will saunders run a 1 yard pass on 3rd and 8? how many times will brunell throw a swing pass in the flat? didn't the skins bring in "much needed speed at receiver". why aren't we stretching the field? the one deep play to lloyd picked up 45. gee whodathunk it? and there was another play lloyd got open about 25 yards down field, inbetween the corner and safety, and brunell air mails it into the front row.
coaches call the plays, coaches make the lineup.
how about some bump and run. how about some mid range throws, deep throws. gee, when duckett ran for 12 up the gut, i said "finally...let's bring out the hammer". then what happens? off tackle...sweeps...throws in the flat. wet field, big back like duckett...smells like running it up the gut to me!

here's what I see on E10. I see that, if the season ended with tonight MNF game, the last wild card will be 5-4 (Philly, Dallas, Carolina, Atlanta). We'd be tied with Dallas, and below Philly at the moment. We still play the Iggles, Panthers, and Falcons, ALL AT HOME, IN A ROW. If we can squeak it out at Tampa like we did in the playoffs last January, we can have some momentum playing the 3 most critical games. and who knows?
think about it this way. when the skins were 5-6 last season, we were not as pessimistic as we are now, but truth be told, people were calling for changes across the board. and the team sucked it up and made a run. that is one thing this team is capable of doing: going on runs.
LOOK AT THE BRIGHT SIDE GUYS: the cup is 1% full, not 99% empty!!!!!

P. Diddy -
I don't think anyone wants to see Gibbs & Co. publicly excoriate anyone on the team..... However, many do feel (myself included) that Gibbs needs to sack Brunell like Bush sacked Rumsfeld. It's time for a fresh start and a new direction.
It'll be ok, though. Afterall, Brunell is already used to getting sacked......
Posted by: tigeruppercut | November 13, 2006 1:02 PM
when i said tied with dallas and below philly, i meant head to head....
Posted by: utter optimist | November 13, 2006 1:03 PM
Behind closed doors, they all know what they did wrong.
Diddy, i don't agree. i don't think joe thinks he did anything wrong by not having benched mark already. or even acquiring mark. even behind closed doors. he need not look far for an example...look at double G, he saw archie's play and benched him. and it resulted in only 1 big play. and it wasn't even #23's fault.
BUT if the switch doesn't happen this week, it's not going to happen in 2 more weeks. because they'll win in tampa. i guarandamntee it.

Eaglesfan4life,
biggest no sh!t. What do you think people have been screaming about on this blog all year?
The insane thing is, the only ones that don't realize this are the people running the organization.

Another comment, and then I need to head out into the Barcelona night for more food and wine...
St. Joe has said consistently that "Mr." Snyder has given him "everything that we could possibly want".
Now, I'm not a parent (that I know of). Nor do I hope to ever be a parent. But I do know this: when I was 13 years old and wanted that GI Joe Zartan action figure, my mom said "No, go get a job."
Which I did, and the rest is history.
Sometimes the boss has to say "No" so that you can appreciate the meaning of "Yes".

Czabe, for the most part, is a boob. The question to M-Bru re: sitting down to give Jason a chance was classless. What the heck did he expect M-Bru to say? There's a HUGE difference between a reporter stripping away the BS to get the real facts and being a boob. Czabe, when he actually gets the chance to be a reporter, is usually on the boob side of that line. JLC and the other Post reporters have proven this year that they are not afraid of asking the hard questions. But we should respect them for not sinking to Czabe's level and asking the idiotic, loaded ones. It's pointless and classless.
Posted by: CMoney | November 13, 2006 1:06 PM
tigeruppercut, you and I are totally on the same page. For no other reason than they need to know if they need to use their draft pick next year on a QB or not.
dealer, my personal conspiracy theory is that the entire coaching staff knows that they screwed up and Campbell can't play. I can't wait to be proven wrong.
Posted by: P Diddy | November 13, 2006 1:07 PM
Well I just wanna say.....oh wait a minute....I don't care.
If the players don't care why should I?
Posted by: Skinz | November 13, 2006 1:08 PM
We all have mentioned the problems the Skins have had through the years. I believe these are systematic of the flawed franchise construction. I created a roadmap that will bring the franchise back to one of the tops in the league. (I don't know if it'll add any value, but I'm considering it my personal therapy.)
The focus has to be about adding accountability through every stage of the franchise.
1. Hire a GM - This is tough, but necessary to split the player decisions from the coaching decisions. As Billick said, "owners own, players play, coaches coach, [etc.]" Clearly the franchise has no idea how to create a consistent winner. One strategy would be to benchmark against what NE does. There isn't enough of an emphasis placed on the characteristics that a young player trying to make the team, can bring. (It's tough for Carter to get to the QB when he's weighed down by his bonus check.) No franchise can be built and sustained with the approach the team is attempting to use now. Plus, a GM who is more detached from the player on a day-to-day basis, can more easily tell him reasons why he's being cut, or asked to restructure, or whatever.
2. Play JC and Rocky to get them some PT in the remaining games this year. This is a pretty common sense issue, but it's not like the Skins have mastered the obvious just yet.
3. Sit on it next year - no big signings, but be active in the FA market because there aren't draft picks to use to stock the roster. However, instead of throwing gobs of money at crappy top-tier FAs, sign the mid-tier FA's available that fit what you're doing. This involves actual homework and scouting...I'll get to that later.
4. Bring Joe/GWill/Big Al into the conference room, sit them down and tell them you expect more from a $10M+ coaching staff. If JC isn't ready to play...get him there. If Taylor is costing with big penalties...get him to stop. The accountability has to be pushed to the players as well. It's nice to stand up and say things start and end with the coach, but the rubber meets the road with the players. This comes back to the accountability issue, if any player (not just QB) isn't getting the job done, replace him if possible. Figure out ways of getting the job done instead of throwing your hands up and saying its the best we can do.
5. Take the excess $$$ not spent on top-tier FA's, and increase scouting and development budgets. This is about planning for the 2007 draft. Of course, this means Cerrato would have to be tossed as well. Players from schools across the country should be looked at. These scouts would then report to the GM, who develops a plan for how to improve the team the following year.
6. Build through draft - given the investment into scouting, the draft picks can't be used as trade fodder unless there is a current and overwhelming need for something not available via FA route.
Finally...
7. Don't be cozy with media - the fanbase is supporting the team and the source of the incredible revenues pulled in by the team. The cozy relationship with the chosen/owned media outlets, dilutes the fan-team interaction. Just as the everyone is accountable in the organization, the GM, owner and coaches have to be accountable to the fan base. This means not just appearing on company outlets, but on places where there are genuine give-and-take with the fans. Amazingly...the fans would think you're stand up if you give (some couched) honesty and actual thoughtful answers.
Lunch break is over...I'm done.
Posted by: B | November 13, 2006 1:09 PM
If Campbell is in by the next home game, the fans should all boo. Boo the entire game until they make the change. Boo so much Joe won't even think about talking about how great the fans are.

I'm not so sure about that W in Tampa Bay. You've gotta figure the Bucs, hideous though they may be, remember the sting of the warm loogie of a certain Redskins player 11 months ago. That could be pretty motivating.

actually, they're at the bottom of my (a skins fan) totom pole of hate. it's dallas, ny and then philly. we much rather see philly win it than the other two.
and Rob, jason does ask hard questions but el presidente doesn't like answering them. so the reporters pretty much dance around the big fat white elephant most of the time. and they have too much respect/or are scared of snyder's wrath to follow up on gibbs bull shti answers. and now to that i'd say fellas we're right behind you. and you may badger the witness!
it's year 3 and all his plans have failed. the emperor is naked! boz, we want a column to send off gibbs!

If this keeps up, the Redskins will no longer be the most profitable team in the NFL. I'll always be a fan, but dang, this is ridiculous. Play calling, passing, covering; all the worst in the NFL. Put in Campell and Duckett and simplify the whole offensive scheme.
Posted by: Porcupine | November 13, 2006 1:14 PM
I guess we are all in agreement that yesterday sucked and they stunk up the joint. Changes have to come at QB now. Mark Brunell knows he sucks that's why he said to a Dallas player he needed that game to keep his job and that's why he is so upset when people ask him is he the qb for this team.
I'm a life long Redskins fan and will always pull for them but as long as that bum is starting I'll keep my mouth shut and won't stand for them. If coach Gibbs reads and knows everything then you should know if you dare put that bum on the field next week, then come the game back home the fans that do show up is going to make that bum wish you would have sat him on the bench

Michael Pittman is an awful human being. I can't imagine any of his teammates trying to "defend his honor." Give me a break. He tried to run over his wife with a Hummer. Screw him. If Pittman is on the field, I hope Taylor spits in his face again.

A quick cup of joe for Jack Kent Cooke. You actually posted the following:
"The fact that Marty put up 49 with a less talented offense should not arouse any ire."

I'm beginning to think that Gibbs no longer has what it takes to make an NFL team successful. Maybe he's gotten too old and has lost his edge; maybe he coached better when he was surrounded by the coaching staff and management he had during his first tenure. The only thing that he seems particularly successful at now is in keeping the players faithful to the system and preventing them from speaking out against it or against one another or against the coaches despite some of the most horrific of performances and questionable play-calling that often seems to defy the very system Saunders was allegedly supposed to bring to the team. This was supposed to be a complicated, high-flying deep attack offense, but they go deep maybe once or twice a game, if at all. Most skins fans seem to believe that the reason for that is Brunell doesn't have it in him to keep going deep several times in a game anymore, and as a result Saunders simply isn't calling the deep plays - which would be consistent with Saunders' statement at the beginning of the season re Brunell. If this is true, why hasn't Gibbs made the switch at QB? Maybe the switch would be risky, but what the hell - you're losing anyway, and it's not like you'd be risking someone's life. This is football.
Gibbs continues to keep Brunell in on the premise that he gives them the best chance to win. He seems to base this assertion on Brunell's superior experience. How is experience going to win the game if you no longer have the stamina and toughness to consistently either get the ball downfield or run for the first down if everybody's covered? That's Brunell of old, not the current one. True we've seen a flash here and there from him, and then he comes out and says "See? Nobody believed me." Got news for you - we still don't. We need a lot more of those flashes to have the kind of faith Gibbs has in you. If superior experience alone could get it done, why not bring back Theisman or Doug Williams?
Start JC. True, the failures haven't all been all Brunell's fault directly. But maybe if Campbell is in there, scrambling for the first downs, buying time and finding guys open deep downfield, maybe the rest of the team will respond to that. Maybe the defense will rediscover it's strengths and go fight to get the offense back out there to see the kid work his magic. Who knows?

CMoney- you nailed it. There is nothign wrong with asking about one's job securty and I ask pressing questions all the time, it's another lob a silly suggestion about someone effectively ending his career, walking out on his team and asking his coach to bench him. It is, without a doubt, the dumbest question I have ever heard asked of a pro athlete in 12 years of covering pro sports, and shows a complete lack of insight from the person asking the question.
What is Mark going to say?
It's really easy to lob the question over a TV feed from 150 miles away, with the guy asking the question never have asked a face-to-face question of any Redskin in his life. Also, his lack of tact has had a big time negative impact on Kelli, who covers the team for Comcast. She, is a real journalists who actually interacts with people and has to deal with the organization on a daily basis, and she was pretty fired up after this went down last night. She is paying the price for the ramblings of an ill-informed bozo.
I have a good relationship with Mark and was able to talk to him and get some actual insight into his thoughts on his job security and the reality of the situation, but there is a way to do things. Asking about it is most definitely a huge part of my job; asking someone if they want to voluntarily put their career in jeopardy and end a quality, 15 year career by asking your Hall of Fame coach to let you quit on your team is pathetic and leads to nothing. It's a nice ploy if the person asking the question is begging to be noticed, though.

Can we please get a G.M. with a resume and give him/her total automy from the owner. Teams of every sport need to be comprised of proven and unproven talent. That balance gives everyone somthing to play for as younger players try to break into the lineup and to one day get that big payday while fatcat vets try to hold on to their starting job. When big name Adam Archuleta gets benched in favor of big name Troy Vincent proper motivation gets lost.

Can someone go over press coverage with Rogers? Every game I've seen he plays off the received by at least 10 yards and always gets beat inside. I would think that a top 10 pick would have the speed to keep up with the receivers and wouldn't need to give up such a hugh cushion.

While I watch other games around the league I've noticed that when the camera shots go to players benches there are usually alot of animated players...including that reciever in Dallas, discussing what and how to get things done on the field. I have vivid images of coaches and players getting in each others faces for both good and bad reasons...
When the camera hits the Redskins bench you usually see Brunell sitting off alone with a half smug smile on his face...(who knows what he's thinking about, probably thinking he'll be resigned complete with signing bonus for four more years)
Why is there no emotion on the Redskin Bench????

Jason-
Re the Steve Zaban question. I didn't catch that interview, but it does sound like it was a bit harsh of a question. I have a question though: Doesn't the media have a certain obligation to ask questions that reflect what people are thinking about and would like to have answered? A lot of Skins fans are pretty fed up with the QB situation and are thinking the same thing. The form of the question was blunt and harsh, but it sounds like it accurately ecoed what a lot of people wanted to hear.
The other side of it is, if Brunell was substantially upset by that question, maybe it will motivate him and the rest of the team to step it up and get some wins.
Posted by: Sadfan | November 13, 2006 2:00 PM
I think the only two people who think that Brunnell should continue being the QB are Gibbs and Brunnell. I was amazed that Brunnell was put back into the game after his interception!
They should start Thrash, Lloyd, Cartwright and Campbell just to get some new energy into the offense (as in offensive.) Brunnell is 2-6 (Dallas doesn't really count as a victory for him) and they only scored 3 points yesterday.
Geez.
Posted by: charlie | November 13, 2006 2:00 PM

Football is a game that I choose every day to make a part of my life. That commitment is mine to make. No one is holding a gun to my head. I happen to love the Redskins even though they are horrendous right now. With that in mind, I find in more horrendous to see people taking pot shots and less than zero character assassinations regarding Gibbs and Brunell's Christianity repulsive and a solid reason to give those of you that do it the Mike and Mike "Just Shut Up" award. Their faith is one of the reasons I love this team as opposed to some of the other flashier "me-first" players and teams out there. It is why I cherish the Darrel Green's and Art Monks of the world because they were calm and acted like they had been there before. The whole religion sucker punch is a cowards way of saying "aaaah wahhhhh, Coach Gibbs won't give us what we want or think we need..." Grow up; Peter Pan, Count Chocula...... Gibbs is definitely accountable for horrendous personnel decisions, game decisions, team discipline and post game interviews... That said, his faith should not be the theme of pagan ridicule. Tolerance...right??? Or is that EXCEPT when it pertains to faith???

Start Campbell, Make Thrash the #2 receiver, Run Betts and Duckett, Use Randel-El as a 3rd down back, Never throw more than 1 screen pass per game, Never punt, Never kick a field goal, Sit Carter and Daniels and Wynn, Start McIntosh, Tell Taylor they will steal his SUV if he gets beat deep again, Use Rogers and AA for corner/safety blitz purposes only, Never wear white on white again, ever. Oh yeah, and hire a GM

P Diddy-"How would you like it if your boss publicly scolded you in front of all your co-workers for putting the wrong cover on your TPS reports?"
The difference is we don't perform our job in a public forum. If we did and we messed up in public, we deserve to be criticized. We also aren't partially supported financially by the public. Gibbs has no trouble PRAISING them in public, so why can't he be critical of them. It's called accountability, my friend and not being a hypocrite.

I didn't read who took pot shots. I'll say this though Grump, if he feels extra loyalty to Brunell as a result of faith then he's just wrong.
As for Czabe, that guy is an ass for asking that. I wonder how he'd feel if Brunell asked him if he would step down if CSN found a real reporter to replace him?

Complete Shabingus right now on this blog. No one knows what we're evening talking about right now. It's because you have to make things up when you lose 27-3 to a divisional opponent.
I can't believe that Czazcabe has us talking about him again. It's the Howard Stern Model: you say shocking things so that you're supporters/detractors listen to what you'll say next. A sportstalk guy is making headlines. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN. He is the mayor of Choochtown. Skinz hit it on point. 'Czabe, will you go to your producer and ask to step down because the graduate intern Darren from AU deserves a chance to be on a post game show.' What a chooch.

Listening to Czaban on the radio for the last however many years, I've realized that Czaban talks a lot of isht for someone who looks like he couln't play a physical sport for crap. It gets on my nerves when reporters and journalists feel like they can kill professional athletes (Stephen A. Smith) when they've done what in their professional athletic careers? The first time I ever saw Czaba on post-game live I could not help and crack up at his goober looking self. However I do appreciate and agree with many of the things that he says, because a lot of times his emotions are very representative of those of the fans.

Howard stepped up big. Instead of getting Weggie wit it and getting a sub there, I suggested he owed me Chick Fil'A since I went above and beyond driving him on in the rain.
He got lost once but stuck it out, found the Chick and delivered still warm sandwiches and fries.
Who does not love the waffle fries and chicky sammies there?
I say Wendy's chicken sammie is second best; some of my media brethren say Wendy's is best.
Howard, bless his New England soul, has never had Chick Fil'A, and went to the Golden Arches for his lunch. Didn't bother even trying the Chick Fil'A. Dude don't know what he's missing.

This is the light weight version, but Czaban does it, and many of the others who can't bust Gibbs and Brunell out for their football ineptitude seem to collapse on the faith jokes and should instead just focus on the horrendous performances and leave it at that. Gibbs cannot keep this up and maintain the fan base nor can Brunell keep this up and hvae the loyalty of the team.

AMTTS I agree with you 100%. That's why during lunch I didn't post anything. How many times can we say we suck let's see Campbell?

Grumplestilskinn:
Where have you heard Gibbs and Brunell being criticized for being Christians? When Brunell first came to the team I heard something about that being a large part of their friendship, and some folks said it had the potential for bias, but I don't really hear that so much these days. I've been away from the blogs for a while though, so maybe I missed it there.

It is unfortunate, the insinuations an the comments range from benign to malignant. The prayer jokes are weak, and fairly harmless, but there were others recently where the discussion was brought up about the diabetes fainting spell and the whole prayer thing, plus Mclean Bible Church etc became a joke laying the blame on this game not being church but football. Like I quoted in the other blip, it ranges... it is like a scab that is picked over and over and it just never heals. Anyways, people have the right to say whatever they want to say. I will fight to the death for their right to be wrong. But I can say I do not agree.

Grumplestilskinn- How much longer you going to dwell on it? If it bothers you that much maybe you should move on?
Posted by: Richard Cranium | November 13, 2006 3:02 PM
OK,OK
My dear blogger lovelies ... ever watched a cat sitting near a window watching another stranger cat outside? The inside cat at the window gets aggitated watching the stranger cat encroaching on HIS territory ... his tail starts twitching, ears lay back, low growls commence ... when all of a sudden the indoor cat's sibling sister chooses to walk by at that very moment. What happens is a phenomenon called "displaced aggression" where the indoor boy cat at the window takes out his aggression towards the outdoor strange cat on his sibling sister. Poor little sibling sister gets mauled and runs away hiding ... or fights back depending on her mood at the time of the displaced aggression.
Do we have any indoor males here needing to displace aggression? How about a hug instead
*hugs*

At least someone's playing well. Good game for Hahnemann too from what I understand from a buddy who was one of the lucky ones to get into the stadium.

Correction, Dallas was medicore team with Bledose at quaterback not with Romo. I would advise Gibbs to make the quaterback cha nge. Brunell leaves to many yards o n the field.

With all due respect Charlie, that's just folks expressing humorously what seem to be the highly incongruous perceptions of reality coming out of Ashburn. I don't think anyone seriously believes that these blomments are coming from those guys. Just as I sincerely doubt anyone ACTUALLY thinks I'm Rich Milot.
In case anybody's wondering, I'm not.

I spoke to a friend who lives in Buffalo a few minutes ago and he made the comment to me that "be careful whatcha wish for, you just might get it" ala JP Losman.... I "pray" the Jason Campbell verzion is a lot better... "God Knows" that the Bills have a lot to reflect on in light of that missed field goal... that city is still haunted by Norwoods miss... (He even gets sensitive when we discuss the Caps beating his resurgent Sabres to go to the Finals eons ago....)

Grumplestilskinn- That comment wasn't very Christian like. I will pray for you as well my brother.

Joe, let's do this!!! lol
Posted by: Grumplestilskinn | November 13, 2006 3:19 PM
1. Brunell is ill-suited to the offense. That's what ails the Skins. And what makes Campbell's benching so puzzling. When Gibbs brought in Saunders, he should have thought hard about the compatibility of the system to the skills of the QBs on hand.
2. The free agent strategy has failed. Too costly in cap and picks. At least the inevtiable draft busts are cheap.
3. Training camp was soft.
4. Players came in with false confidence and bloated expectations.
5. Cumulative losses and missteps in the defensive backfield -- Fred Smoot, Antonio Pierce, Ryan Clark, Pierson Prioleau, Omar Stoutmire. AJ Hawk is a starter for New England (6-3). RW McQuarters is a starter for the Giants (6-3).
On and on.
BUT. Fixing #1 could be the answer to the whole thing. The Patriots were a losing team under Bledsoe, and the same team won the Super Bowl with Brady.
Posted by: Enthused4Theisman | November 13, 2006 3:19 PM
Thank you Mr Cranium... What ails me cannot be solved by simple prayer, but requires a time machine to go back to the Riggo days.... lol, good call.

Yes, J-La, Chick-Fil-A trumps Wendy's. I can't believe that's even a discussion. It's not even close. The only horse that Wendy's has in the race is the Spicy Chicken sandwich -- but it's still doesn't match up to anything at Chick-Fil-A. And the waffle fries are gold, my friend. Gold.

Fire Gibbs!!
Posted by: George | November 13, 2006 3:34 PM
Remember when Gibbs came back and one of the burning questions was: "How will he deal with an era of free agency? Will he know what to do?". The image that came to mind was that Gibbs was like some grandfather-type holding a "free agency" I-Pod scratching his head and wondering what to do with it. Well, what we are seeing on the team is the total opposite: Free Agency Overdose. The image is the sheltered child who finally goes off to college and tries everything he can get his hands on. Someone needs to intervene and let Gibbs know that Free Agency kills!
Posted by: pfunk | November 13, 2006 3:35 PM
Grumple, get a grip, buddy.
1. This is an opinion blog. People are allowed to have opinions on all aspects of the Redskins
2. As such, if the Redskins are making lineup decisions based on the religion or religiousness of their players, that is an antiquated, and here, a detrimental approach -- one ripe and ample for ridicule
3. Brunell's and Gibbs' religious common ground ought not to blind Gibbs to MB's inability or unwillingness to throw long or to the middle of the field
We need a QB and a coach, not a pastor and and a saint. This is not a crusade.
Seems to me anyway

P Diddy, the point i was trying to make was not about how the white uni's suck, its that they shouldnt be concerned with how they look when they are this bad. I wouldnt care if they went out dressed like the hoggettes if they were a winning team. These guys shouldnt either. Also, the fact that Gibbs lets this happen and caves to his players demand in spite of all the problems they have is a sign as to who is running the asylum
Posted by: Jack | November 13, 2006 12:18 PM
I will take this a step further: Why did we start with the white on white anyway? Because we were winning and the uni change became synonymous with the winning streak.
Well, guess what? Now it's synonymous with a 3-6 season.
I'm not advocating a full uniform/logo change, but the following teams have found success after doing so:
Denver Broncos (logo/uni change)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (color/logo/uni change)
New England Patriots (logo/uni change)
It could be said that other teams have had minor logo changes as well: Philadelphia, St. Louis, Seattle
I may be reaching here, but I can tell you if I'm getting beat down week after week (barring the odd miracle finish) I sure wouldn't want to show up in the same uniform I took the beating in over and over again.
Personally, I think it's time to go back to the 2002 jerseys again. Or something different at least.
Who makes the decision on what uniform gets worn anyway?
Posted by: Ali Haji Shank | November 13, 2006 3:39 PM
I would love to punch Vinny and Dan right in the face!!!!!!
I would let Gibby go, unharmed, if he gave me his resignation... if he refused, IN THE FACE!!!!!

Can the time machine take me back to a time when Rich Milot was relevant? You are right... it is an opinion blog... Good call #Cinco Siete !

AHS,
I'm surprised Gibby doesn't pull over the team bus and ask the fans which uniform to wear...
Honestly, I think it was decided by a team vote...
T-minus 1 hour to boring press conference number 1,324 in a row...

Re: So you favor Brunnell over Rivers? Portis over Tomlinson? Cooley over Gates? The Chargers have best in breed for RB and TE. Wake up.
When you add Moss, Lloyd, and ARE to Portis and Cooley you have a more talented offense on the whole. For some reason defenses can't stick 8 in the box, double Gates and shut down LT... its cuz they are better coached.
There is NO defense alive should shut down this offense, were it not for the coaching. The coaching keeps Brunell in games, runs CP like he was built like Riggins, and wastes players like Portis. Sellers, Cooley, ARE, Lloyd and Moss.
If Marty went 8-3 with Tony Banks and Mike Westbrook, what could he do with our offense?
Posted by: Jack Kent Cooke | November 13, 2006 3:48 PM
Joe Gibbs, the NFL equivalent of George W. Bush, needs a new approach, a fresh perspective. Unlike Dubyah, he just doesn't realize it yet.
And if I see another picture of Gibbs standing by himself on the sideline, not talking to anybody, spitting out pieces of his broken luck, I am going to scream.

Fast Food Hierarchy. These rankings may be skewed because a) I don't like french fries b) I have a visceral, negative reaction to ketchup and c) I haven't tried Chick-Fil-A
1. Arby's: "roast beef" processed beyond recognition, actually quite tasty.
2. Wendy's: good all-around choice -- good burgers, good chix sandwiches. The gold-packet chili seasoning is really good -- i've actually sucked down packets of the stuff by themselves.
3 (tie). BK: Whopper is an excellent sandwich; the Stackers seem to be a temporary thing. Fish and chicken sandwiches are just bad though. Unfortunately, the onion rings are no more appealing than the fries.
3 (tie). Sonic: A number of different burger choices, many of which are tasty and decently priced, but I can actually feel my arteries clogging when I eat there.
4. McDo's: Big Mac is a HOF'er, breakfast is good, but the BEST thing is the new sweet tea.
5. Hardee's/Jack in the Box: an inferior version of Wendy's combined with Sonic
Now I'm getting hungry

This sux. Isn't there someone we can make fun of?
I guess we can start talkin food. I've been averaging 5lb additions annually since college, so I think that gives me an intermediate level of knowledge in the culinary arts and fast food quality. I'll provide a ranking and apply the food performance to a Redskin this season. I'll try to stick w/ places possessing a fast food window.
Chick Fil'A - 6 out of 10 for fast food joints. You must go to a stand alone restaurant though. For some reason, Food Courts ala Malls & Airports suck. Columbia Mall is a perfect example. Knock of a point just for that storefront. Reminds me of Santana. A lot of great memories, but sometimes not utilized right to the point of outright disrespect.
McGonads - 2. They've gone down hill since the Big Mac. Tried to bounce back w/ the Mcgriddle, but out comes "Super Size Me". The best thing to happen to them was Chipotle (CHIP-OAT-LAY btw). Oh, and their limited "Late Night" menu in College Park Saturday at 2am after Bentley's was pathetic. Had to get a McChicken sandwich. Wasn't to happy about that after avoiding tasers and angry frat guys for 11 hours. Golden "Arch"uletta of Fast Food, but I'd rather be punting a nasty cold double cheese right now.
Roy Rogers - Gold Rush...need I say more? 6. Clinton Portis. So much potential, but getting a little banged up nowadays.
Wendy's - 5 - Suspect quality on the second tier stuff, but a solid burger and a good fry. I think their cheese comes from Wisconsin too! Frosty's make this D-Frost. I go to this often after 3 straight runs, but the cold fries gotta stop.
Arby's - ahhh...now we're talking. A mean sandwich, no horse meat burgers, silly curly fries, and a top 5 shake. Never really had a bad experience here. 7. #45. Really fight there guts out.
BK - HAVE IT YOUR WAY, baby! Burger King has been running away with it lately! Lettuce, tomatoes, fresh charbroiled beef!!! YUM! Good Chick too! 7.5. Reminiscent of the cheerleading staff. Only 3 have been fired this year due to Cooley, and no matter what the record, they're still happy.
Keep in mind, Five Guys, Mama Lucia, Chipotle, are not in this class of classless fast food. They are the 3 VL Troph's though.
Posted by: Pub Golf | November 13, 2006 3:56 PM
Ali - huge W for Reading, indeed. Bobby Convey sent back to the States to "rest" does not sit well with me, though. I am worried about his knee and hope this is not something serious.
Sidwell is a stud in their midfield. Marcus is a tough cookie. I like Lita and Doyle, too. They like to attack. Fun outfit to watch all around.
Posted by: Jason La Canfora | November 13, 2006 3:58 PM
Hey, Campbell could suck. But then we would know. Brunell may not be JP Losman bad, but he's obviously not the answer for next year. And the team can't be so stupid as to throw Campbell to the wolves next year with NO in-game snaps (even Rivers got a few snaps last year).
And heaven forbid Cerrato saying to Dan this offseason: "Hey, Kerry Collins is available." That would be really, really bad.
Chick-Fil-A rules. EAT MOR CHIKIN
Posted by: tallbear | November 13, 2006 3:59 PM
dealer is right on.....czabe has toooo much press... what an imbecile....if we are stuck with Brunell...provided we continue to watch... Czabe certainly added to the "I will not be dictated to" mentality most guys feel when someone is trying to force their hand... in this case...it may be the entire Wash Met area trying to get Gibbs to listen... How many vets do you think are yearning to see what the kid can do?
Posted by: Grumplestilskinn | November 13, 2006 3:59 PM
i don't know guys. you heard it here first from jason(of this blog) a month ago. TRENT GREEN, your next year's QB. it just doesn't look good any which way you look at it. scary, very scary.

Here's what should be discussed: where does the bulk of the blame lie? Vinnie? Danny Boy? Saint Joe?
Posted by: Cane | November 13, 2006 4:07 PM
And I agree with Ricky Bobby (I think it was him) who is demanding an apology from St. Joe to each of us who is having to take a beating on behalf of our team today.
Had a VP (Bears fan) make a comment in a strategy meeting today along the lines of "we wouldn't want to screw this up like the Redskins" to which another Director, an Eagles fan, snickered.
This is too much.
Posted by: Ali Haji Shank | November 13, 2006 4:09 PM
Order of blame:
1. Gibby
2. Snyder
3. Vinny (last b/c he's a cracked out retard and deserves a little more slack because of it)
Posted by: Ricky Bobby | November 13, 2006 4:09 PM
WHERE IS OUR TEAM???
I take back my Raiders comment from last week. I watched them v. the Broncs and you know what at least they had some fire.
It's one thing to be bad in so many areas, to have so many personnel problems, to have injuries and on and on.
But don't these guys have ANY sense of pride? JlaC do you agree with TBoz's comments on the locker room after the game?
I watch this team and I don't feel like most of them care all that much. You don't see it in their eyes, you don't see it on the sidelines, you don't see it in the body language. CP and Moss are the main exceptions.
These guys are professionals and they're playing like a bunch of chumps. They're salary is dependent on chumps like us showing up every week, buying tickets, jerseys, NFL Sunday Ticket etc. etc. Do they feel any shame for shoveling a heaping, steaming, stinking pile of isht on the field every week?
Let's be honest we looked good against Houston which is like saying John Travolta is a good dancer compared to Jerry Springer. JAX game was a train wreck minus a couple good plays by Moss. Dallas was a fluke (I LOVED it don't get me wrong) but we look bad every flingin flangin week!
Who'se gonna step up and show up on the field and do something other than cheap penalties, missed tackles and failed red zones drives?
Anyone at Redskins Park have an answer? Anyone? Anyone listening? Anyone? Or is everyone counting their millions?
I hate today.
Posted by: sfskin | November 13, 2006 4:15 PM
1. Snyder (for not giving gibbs a strong personnel person and giving into the demands of gibbs for total control)
2. Gibbs (for letting his ego get in the way of team's well being and future).
jason, who asked the jason campbell question to mark brunell?
Posted by: dealer | November 13, 2006 4:15 PM
After the game, my boy Bourbon Rick called 411 and asked for "Mark Brunell" in "Great Falls, VA".
We are not good. The blog will be retired soon until next season I am sorry to say. Nothing left to talk about.
Posted by: The Governor | November 13, 2006 4:16 PM
AHS,
Yep, I've been getting it all day long. And if things weren't bad enough on the field, I also take beatings from friends/co-workers on TomKat, Wild World or whatever Snyder decided to buy, him being an idiot, you name it. Can't take it anymore.
JG, will be awaiting my/our apology in 30 minutes.
Now, if he also apologizes to Dan/Vinny, I might be on my way down to Redskin Park to start a revolt.
Posted by: Ricky Bobby | November 13, 2006 4:17 PM
1. Snyder (for not getting rid of Vinny and getting a real GM)
2. Vinny (He knows he'll be the odd-mann out, but he won't say anything. He needs a paycheck, too).
3. Gibbs (Hay, Snyder called him)

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | November 13, 2006 4:24 PM
I just looked at the results of the aforementioned poll - I'm not sure the blame lies with Danny Boy. All he wants to do is win. And, while the head honcho is ultimately to blame, I would much rather have an owner who is willing to spend the money to win than one who is not.
Posted by: mile high | November 13, 2006 4:25 PM
Nothing that happened yesterday depressed me more than Todd Collins warming up on the sideline. You're down 27-3 in the 4th quarter. What on earth are you salvaging, besides Brunell's ego, by putting Collins and not Campbell in?
Mercifully the Eagles went ahead and ran the ball on a 9 minute drive to save us that embarrassment. We don't even trust our "QB of the future" enough to lose games.
-Scared Fan.

Thanks for the poll tip -- I voted for the second place group, the players who are narrowly trailing Mr. Snyder. Well, that made me feel a little better.

I hope the earlier comments from J-LA poo-pooing Czabe were from an imposter.
Come on JLA. We ALL want a shot at Brunel. We don't owe him anything. He is a stubborn LOSER. Just like Gibbs. You guys owe it to your constituents (US) the fans and readers of the WA-PO, and watchers of Comcast sports) to ask what WE want to know. Czabe did his part, and so did Ken Harvey, who gets no bad pub, but bascially asked Brunel if he was trying to do things his body could not, and asked him if his body and mind were afraid of hits! Who's questions were worse!!
So take it easy on your oh so holier than thou crap and start asking the tough questions. Unless you already know the answers.

2. Fire Cerrato
3. Start the "Kid"
4. Give Brunnel his gold watch & bid him adios.
5. Too many chiefs, not enough indians.
6. Too many over-payed, non-team, "all about ME" guys on this team.
7. Punter: punk.
8. Kicker: krap.
9. Go back to the burgundy pants & white shoes.
10. The soap box is vacated, Elvis has left the building.
11. NEXT!

JLa,
The more I think about the Czabe question, the more I think you are right... to a point.
What angers me is that Napolean, I mean Snyder, is such a sensitive baby that I can see him threatening to pull the plug on access for Comcast if they don't fire Czabe. You know, kind of like they pulled the WP tickets and cut off close to all ties with 980.
Can you see the Giants doing that to the Daily News or local talk radio? HAAAA
Maybe if Napol... sorry, I mean Snyder, and the rest of the team worried more about on the field stuff, and less about what's being said in the papers and media, we wouldn't be 3-6 with no future.
And one more word about Napol... damn, did it again. How classy of him to refuse to talk to the media because the poor baby was made fun of. I remember doing that to Jack Stanley back in the 3rd grade when he called me a meany head. Is he successful, yes... but unfortunately he's also successful running this organization into the ground, then refusing to speak about it like I did with Jack Stanley back in 3rd grade. It's a sad state of affairs when our owner takes advantage of his fans loyalty and charges an arm and a leg like a grown-up, but then runs like a school boy when he's criticized. What a joke.

What are you talking about? How is asking a competitor to basically quit the same as asking if his body is breaking down?
As I said, if Brunell asked Czabe when he was quiting his job so that a real sportscaster could take his place, how would that be interpretted.
That question should be asked of Gibbs not Brunell. It was bush-league and asked for the shock value. I put him in the same category as Jim Rome now. At least Rome has the balls to ask someone that to his face.
