Shaun Suisham In The Hizzy
So the Skins say former Dallas kicker Shaun Suisham is coming for a visit today, which technically could mean just a meet-and-greet and not an actually a work out. From what I am told he is the only kicker coming today.
Suisham and Vanderjagt have the same agent, so if Vanderjagt clears waivers the Skins would know who to call. The Skins could put in a waiver claim, and might stand a good shot of getting him that way given their record, but he could had much more cheaply as a free agent. Then again, if what I hear about BBM's best bud wanting to chill in the Great White North for a while is true, that might be a moot point anyway.

Vanderjagt could be like the kicker the Cowboys just signed Gramatica. Once he gets the yips he has them for good. Isn't there some good college placekicker who didn't get drafted last year that might be available. Or couldn't the Redskins do something radical with one of those late round picks and actually draft a kicker! (And while they are at it, get a punter as well).

To do that we'd actually need to have draft picks, which we don't.

Nick Novak.net is not an NFL kicker. He is a nice young man who should be selling shoes and select athletic wear at foot locker. One cannot miss a 37 yard FG by 33 yards and have a job as a field goal kicker. It is like having a pitcher who throws the ball into the dugout.
Posted by: ArtMonkToTheSticks | November 28, 2006 12:35 PM
The Cowboys didn't release Vanderjagt because he's breaking records. . .he's not getting the job done. Besides, we have enough egos on the team. It's time to find a kid who is young, doesn't choke on EVERY 30yd + kick and can be groomed.

I have never heard of Suisham. Do you pronounce his name "Swish Ham"? If so, I love the little piggy that could play basketball. I hated the little piggy that went alllll the way home.

Okay, so why do the Skins wait for other team's castoffs? Martin Grammatica was waiting and could have been had but the Skins evidently never made a move. And now that a good team has picked him up, we're going after that other team's garbage. Nice.

You want a kicker/punter, the redskins ought to draft that kid out of Boston College. No joke, he's got more leg than some linebackers!
Posted by: Gregarious | November 28, 2006 12:41 PM
the skins could have a young kicker that grew-up/lives 2 miles from redskins park- i believe he went to william and mary and was in a few nfl camps this summer- he also kicks the ball deep on kick-offs
vinny are you listening?

I would understand the Vanderdrunky signing, but I really hope we don't. I know kickers can kick into their 30s and potentially their 40s, but the guy is going to be 37 or so and has had some injuries and consistency problems.
I don't was another high profile signing (even if it is just a kicker) gone wrong.
Just let him be, and find someone in the offseason. It's not like a kicker is going to make or break this year.
Bucktown's back... for anyone... who... actually missed me. Now I'm crying...

A proper NFL kicker is eccentric and slightly insane. He probably doesn't speak English very well. He is a loner and is approximately 4 feet tall. If he played for the Titans, he'd resemble a Smurf. He doesn't work out for fear of the adverse effects it might have on his technique. Because of this his physique is like that of the Pillsbury Dough Boy.
This is your NFL prototype.
Obviously, the best candidate was Martin Gramatica who, naturally, just signed with the Cowboys. My second favorite candidate would be Paul Edinger, the former Chicago Bears kicker with the ludicrous technique.
All I ask is that they bring a little personality to the table. Making their kicks would be a bonus.

I'd rather have joe bugel kicking for us than novak. good call on the foot locker idea....as long as he isn't on the skins....just awful

Please NOOOOOO! Get someone young. Nick Novak may have problems with consistency, but Vanderjagt will miss a game winning field goal. Isn't Vanderjagt part of the reason why the Steelers made it to the Super Bowl?
Just what we need another overpaid, towards the end of his career, free agent.

I agree with Gregarious - that dude on BC can boot the ball a mile!

The skins should send Big D two first round picks just for releasing Vanderslice. Then you can sign him to a 30 million dollar deal.

"vinny are you listening?"
That was a joke...right? Good One!

HA HA! That sounds like a whiny and sore Cowf@ckers fan, who just got duped by Vanderdrunky. Dude's taking vacation on your dime. At least we overpay old, washed up DBs and DEs. You guys overpaid for an old, washed up kicker... hahhahaha
I, for one, am busting on him and will continue to do so whenever he is mentioned. He is a grade A ass, and the Cowf@ckers deserve this for signing him in the first place.

Maybe Shaun Suisham is next David Akers...Wasn't it Norv that canned him years ago? Now he's a Pro Bowler.
Posted by: markd | November 28, 2006 1:34 PM
It's fun to daydream, but if this situation follows the David Akers story, then Nick Novak will be a perennial pro-bowler... not SwissHam.
I hate not being able to find an obviously reliable kicker. WHY IS IT SO HARD!?!
Posted by: Bucktown Skins Fan | November 28, 2006 1:40 PM
Diddy, I'm going to pronounce it "Swee-shum" until instructed otherwise.
On second thought, maybe our new kickers name should be pronounced "fudge-um". Just a thought...

Also interesting that this would give us a Shawn, Sean and Shaun. Sweet.
Posted by: Joe in Raleigh | November 28, 2006 1:42 PM
from the hype that extremeskins is giving vanderd*ck, you can bet danny boy is going to get this joker and pay too much money for him. It's his way to suck more money from these stupid fans. dumb...dumb...and you deserve this stupid fans...

No one would be a better Redskin or hate the cowboys more than VandyKix. Although he didn't say it right, Peyton Manning DOES Choke in the big games. He is right, and he is until Peyton wins the big one. Why not take a chance on him and put in a waiver claim, we could rent him for 2 years and not have to pay a signing bonus. Kids, we have no where to go but up in regards to the kicking game.

THANK YOU, Joe in Raleigh, for bringing up someone who has been missing from our blog conversations for far far too long. I agree w/ you--why not give fudge-ums a shot at the kicking job? I'll bet he could kick the shi* out of the ball!

Shaun Suisham

Year Team Games Total
2005 Cowboys 3 3-4

Fudge-ums would be fine replacement.
Unfortunately fudge-ums is already slated as our new ouside lb, FB, Punter, Personal Protector on punt team, and DE next year. I'm beginning to think we are expecting too much from him. Perhaps we can get Cinnastix from "The U" in the upcoming draft. I think he's probably worth this years #1, next years 2ns,3rd and 6th rounder.
Posted by: Skinz | November 28, 2006 2:17 PM
Nice post, Skinz. I hadn't considered it, but Cinnasticks might be the answer on so many levels!

>>Shaun Suisham

6-0, 205...he's bigger than some of our dbs. i refer back to P Diddy's requirements....4 feet tall, broken english, resembles a smurf. haha, that was too funny.
Novak = suck
we should make a promise to sam swank from wake forest. have him come out early and we'll sign him. he's a kicker/punter. so we can get rid of both novak and frost.
who cares if we sign vander@ss. he can't possibly be worse than novak or hall.
Posted by: Vander@ss | November 28, 2006 2:31 PM
OK,OK
Isn't Vandyshank the same one in Indy who poisoned the team with his remarks to wit, BBM replied, "He's just a kicker for Christ's Sake"
The same guy? Do we need another attitude, an smug ego to poison the team?
Hey, let's get Nigel from "The Replacements" .. he's 'Wi ah ree' (wirey)
*hugs*

The first thing I thought of was to go get Vanderjagt. He's off to a bad start for him but it was a huge mistake to let him go. Is it just me or am I the only one cringing everytime we kick a field goal? I think this move will come back and bite the Cowgirls in the butt. Vanderjagt has proven year after year that he's one of the best in the game and I'm sure he wants to show the league that he's not done. I believe wherever he goes he will show that he's far from done with new focus and confidence. I predict he will be, down the stretch, a difference maker for the team who is fortunate enough to sign him.
