Media Day Follies - Part 1
Could the era of quasi-celebrity journalism be over? Has the worm turned?
Judging by the turnout at media day down here in, maybe, just maybe, it has. Refreshingly enough, there was a lack of poseurs holding microphones here. A year ago, everywhere you turned on media day there was some hackneyed "talent" like Tom Arnold or Gilbert Gottfried running around. Today, not so much.
I spoke to Len Shapiro and a few other writers who have been covering the Super Bowl much longer than I have, and they all agreed that this was indeed, a rare media day without such madness. Sure ET and Access Hollywood had their people scurrying around asking questions as only they can, but for the most part it was someone who actually does this kind of thing for a living.
The trend du jour was religion. Seemed like whichever player of coach I bounced around to, there was someone from a religious network asking some sort of faith-based question. Okay, I take that back - usually they were asking like four straight God-centric questions. It was pretty rampant.
The Bears have already done their thing, and they all seemed to be in good spirits and taking the drudgery of the day in stride. Muhsin Muhammad was loving it - the man has the gift of gab - and generally enjoyed the litany of odd or irreverent queries tossed his way, doing some verbal gymnastics a la The Greatest. "I'm doing my best Muhammad Ali rope-a-dope," the receiver said.
Okay, I've got plenty of good stuff to post, but I gotta run to the Colts for now. Will have more stuff in an hour - if I am able to get on-line while riding the media bus - or in a few hours if I have to wait until I get back to the media center. for those wanted a taste of what is to come however, google Ines Sainz. TV Azteca is my new favorite network.
Cheers.

Don't want rain on the blog today. But I pay no attention to the super bowl hype unless the skins are involved. I won't turn the game on untill 6:11 or whatever time the national anthem time is. I find all the 2 week pregame talk and pronostications boring and repetitive.
sorry.just not in to it.

DORF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG! your post on 24 and jack's father being babe is exact word for word what i was going to say about him. well not exactly. but i was going to say the original line..."that'll do pig. that'll do.". i absolutely loved that movie. i don't know about what it is about Babe and Waking Ned Devine/Divine but i was LOL'ing thru both of them.
4th, sorry about my last post. I SUCK!
lisa, sorry i get my skins mixed up...
etrod, that's so hillarious. i hope you're not too upset over the incident. i find straight A's so boring and E's so intriguing.
but dorf, you did mess up one line: what did they do to him in China??
it's "What did the CHINESE do to him???".

JASON, I want you to dig deep within you and summon your best writing skills when you write about "Ines Sainz"...one word: imagery...even if you don't speak her language i want you to write what you think what she said...word for word...
old, i know...i was watching something last night and as soon as sports center started talking about #21 of colts/bob sanders who's 5'7 btw and hits like a hammer...i just turned the channel...it's absolutely sickening...and another reason i turned was friggin Sean Salisbury still with a job. what a joke!
Riggo said that if he ran into Sean he'd tell him to see his kids' pictures...(apparently that's what he would tell the women at ESPN when he showed them his phone with pictures of his penis)the guy has offsprings???!!!

"Could the era of quasi-celebrity journalism be over? Has the worm turned?"
I thought you were talking about Wilbon and Kornheiser there.
P.S.
If Sean Salisbury says he wants to show you a picture of his new baby on his cell phone don't look.

Bah-Ram-Ewe!
I haven't watched 24 yet, it's sitting on my DVR, last night was Heroes. I only watch 2 freakin shows and they have to be on at the same time.
I saw the farmer in last weeks previews though and said pretty much the same thing.
I don't know how it works in your neck of the woods, but down in Spotsylvania, we get E's until 4th grade.

Just a rumor, but but the skins may have had or are having discussions with Bobby Depaul Chicago Bears director of Personnel.
Might be something, might be nothing. As we say in RI thats (Rhode Island) I heard it from a guy, who knows a guy who gets his info from this guys barber, so you can take it to da bank.
I not saying ,i'm just saying (praying)

We might even get a special visit from football's own John Madden (via comedian Frank Caliendo from Fox's "Mad TV"). He'll talk about the coming action and his predictions for the game. And where would Madden be without his trusty telestrator to illustrate his predictions?
