The Ex-Skins Factor
Cindy (Cyn-City in the Hizzie) suggested I do an item on the number of ex-Skins playing in this Super Bowl, and then make some kind of smart-aleck prediction based on that. So, sure I'm all for it.
My first thought was, okay, are there any. No one leaped to mind. Then, after like 2 minutes I broke free from my brain cramp and remembered Bryan Johnson, the Bears' fullback, used to be a Skin.
Then I spent about 10 more minutes thinking, and came up with zilch. Then I spent 10 minutes looking over the rosters from both teams and came up with nothing. Then I drank another Presidente (this process began last night; I'm only writing about it now) and came up with nada.
So, as best I can tell, we've got Bryan Johnson, who played 49 games for the Skins, including 48 straight from 2001-2003 vs. no one. Johnson, in his time with the Skins, ran three times for five yards and caught 33 balls for 314 yards. Never did get in the end zone for the Skins.
As for the Colts. Well. there's Reggie Wayne, who The Danny was just dying to give one of those 5-year, $30-million, $10-million guaranteed contracts to. But he never became a free agent.
Then we've got Antoine Bethea, the Howard product. And Cato Jone is a DC guy (Anacostia HS). Terrence Wilkins is another DC guy. Dwight Freeney could be a SFATBSL - Skins Free Agent To Be Signed Later, but then again, who isn't (I kid, I kid).
What to make of all of this?
I guess we've got the give the edge to the Colts, right. I mean the Skins were 20-28 during the Bryan Johnson Era. No great shakes. Then again, if you think about Washington's record this decade, maybe it's best to be a team with no former Skins rather than one.

JLaC on a roll today. What is it, one new post for each Presidente you drink? Keep this up, and you'll be eager to give away the identity of "Deep Cover"

Seems like my computer's been hitting the Presidente. Or maybe it's operator error.

1994 Washington Redskins 3 13 0
1995 Washington Redskins 6 10 0
1996 Washington Redskins 9 7 0
1997 Washington Redskins 8 7 1
1998 Washington Redskins 6 10 0
1999 Washington Redskins 10 6 0
2000 Washington Redskins 7 6
Looking at these #s how can we can complain. We were almost at the mountain top. It was just one Hicup in 98, but after 97 the rest was a winning record. Norv wasn't that bad out side of being 4-25 of games decided by 3 points or less......
Also, I posted in another thread, but JLaC must have took some of that vitamin Water. Isn't Norv somehow tied to the coaching tree of Air Coryell and that was the original reason behind us picking him up???
Posted by: 4th | January 29, 2007 3:18 PM
Ok, got it. He was at USC for almost 10 years and J Robinson gave him his 1st coaching break. So I know that some how ties to Gibbs in that sense, no? Anybody?
Posted by: 4th | January 29, 2007 3:30 PM
Maybe Terry Robiskie and Norv can both come back as Redskin head coaches. I want to see Snyder really show his sack by firing Gibbs. That'd get some discussion going.

jason, please tell me you're sitting under a palm tree and listening to the waves and looking at the nice scenery that MB has to offer. and you're only doing this on the way to the men's room?

In basketball, I brought the ball upcourt one trip against Terrence Wilkins. I get accross half court and passed the ball. As I get rid of it, he goes: 'That move sucked'.
My response was one of the single 'whitest' things I have ever uttered:
"Whatever, I got it up here (over half court)."
He stared at me in disbelief and I hung my head in shame.

"Date Posted: 1/23 8:20pm Subject: i'm at a cross roads with the idea of norv turner possibly coaching the cowboys
I am a 49er fan, and the offense (though not stellar yet) has improved 200% from last year, so i wouldnt want to bring in another guy to kind of stall alex smith's development
but me, being a cowboy hater, wouldnt mind to see them slip into mediocraty or totally sucking with norv turner coaching.......
im like 65/35 on this topic

They was just keeping him alive in order for him to reproduce. Maybe they should have euthinized earlier if he was suffering tramendous pain.....

way way off topic but this is in response to many of you who've commented on "this" before:
am i the only one who thinks that the character of "Ming Ming" is offensive to Asians?
They give her an Asian name and an asian accent, where she can't pronounce "R"s and "L"'s and is a bad driver/flier and is named "ming ming" and is YELLOW.
google: "wonder pets"
jason, sorry brother but as soon as i started watching the show by your recomendation(which i adore and you were absolutely right about the music) Ming Ming kinda was a slap in the face and couldn't believe the koinkydinks...of stereotypes. but as it turns out my 2 year old rather watch fcking barney! arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh! SHOOT ME! NOW!

JLC,
From Chicago you have former Redskin and Terp DT Delbert Cowsette. He played for 32 games for the skins in 01/02.

4th, I had the same thought about poor Barbaro ... they kept him around for the ... the ... the ... genetic material. They could have just connected him up to one of those milking machines and he'd have lived out his last days a happier animal.
Posted by: dcsween | January 29, 2007 4:54 PM
sween, 4th, that's what i didn't get. why would they want genetic material of a horse that broke his leg? i'm not a horse race fan but am forced to listen to the results of big races and have never ran across a broken leg story before (non-winners included). just wondering...
Posted by: dealer | January 29, 2007 4:59 PM
dealer, sounds like a classic case of risk/reward to me. Offspring would have greater odds to have Barbaro's talent (until the break, the horse was odds on favorite to win the triple crown), but maybe/probably additional risk that one misstep could end the horse's racing career (or life).
If you think the break was a freak accident caused by a bad step on poorly manicured turf, then you're very excited to get an offspring from that bloodline

so i don't know what was being insinuated here by 4th and sween...did they actually get what they were looking for? or he never got healhty enough to be in the mood?
btw, did you guys know that that's actually a "profession"? and it's mostly women who do this kinda shtuff...you know to get the genetic material out of an animal...some cabbie told me this tale so i don't know if it's actually true...
Posted by: dealer | January 29, 2007 5:16 PM
dealer,
No need to be upset about MingMing. The character is actually voiced by a little Asian girl.
One of the other little girls (if I'm remembering correctly, it's the one who provides the voice for Tuck) is African American, as well.
Posted by: JustMe | January 29, 2007 5:21 PM
I'm certainly not well versed in the subject matter (I'm still not sure I know what a MingMing is), but I'm not sure the "It's OK because the person doing it is Asian" argument is a valid one in this instance.

MingMing is a character on the children's show, The Wonderpets. I'm just saying, perhaps the name and accent are because the little girl who provides this character's voice is actually Asian and not because some producer decided it would be great to create an Asian bird for the show.

Barbaro is/was only valuable alive and in shape for natural mating:
"Unlike most registered breeds today, a horse cannot be registered as a Thoroughbred (with the Jockey Club registry) unless it is conceived by "live cover;" that is, by the witnessed natural mating of a mare and a stallion."
Posted by: straight outta hampton | January 29, 2007 5:33 PM
Thoroughbred stallions must be able to, um, mount the mare. I think artificial means can be used with other breeds of horses, but it's highly regulated for thoroughbreds...the reason as I understand it is to protect the gene pool...otherwise everybody would use the, um, stuff from the same 2 or 3 champion horses.

At this rate, we will not meet our blogging goal of how ever many someone picked.....

Give the edge to the Bears. Bryan Johnson had the good sense to get out of town and sign with the Bears. And he carries with him the magic of Boise State.
Posted by: BSU Grad | January 29, 2007 6:42 PM
4th -- thread saturation -- too many threads going on at once. Perhaps the alcohol is helping JLC maintain some sort of balance, but just as likely the tequila is doing the typing.
The Barbaro references above remind me of the movie -- think it was called "A Boy and his Dog" -- with Don Johnson the rare 'fully capable' male in a postnuclear america. He thinks he's got it made until he wakes up to find out how the new insemination process works...
