TV Azteca - Setting The Standard
There was but one star of media day, far and away, above all others. It wasn't a player or coach on either team, and our muse had almost nothing to say. But oh, how she shined.
Ines Sainz.
Like me, you probably had no idea who she is. But trust me, I have seen the future of sideline reporting, and I like what I see. Let's be real about it. Anyone remember ever getting moved or truly informed by a sideline report? Do we really ever care what they have to say, beyond, "Gardner, Rod is out of the game with a mild concussion?"
The folks at TV Azteca - a network based in Mexico City - have figured this out. So, why net just use some model to do the job, and dress her at least 5-time more skimpy than anything the actual cheerleaders are wearing, right? What's the difference.
Mrs. Sainz took the job to new heights at media day. I never saw her actually interview a player ... because she was doing more interviews than pretty much everyone except Tony Dungy. Oh, how they flocked to her, with a microphone from another media outlook always in her face. It was like a free, two-hour long commercial for TV Azteca, and she obliged with glee in her stiletto heels, painted on jeans and a tight white top that left the stomach entirely exposed and pretty much everything else, too.
She claims to enjoy American football, and, when asked if her looks result in her never being snubbed by an athlete for an interview request, she responded, "Yes, of course." How perfect is that?
According to the Internet Movie Database she has appeared in some Spanish films and was Miss Spain 1997. She does sideline work for Azteca during soccer games - yet another reason to love the beautiful game. She is what media day is all about.
I actually spend 30 minutes in line with Maria Menounos this morning and had no idea who she was at the time. She looked familiar, but her sunglasses obscured much of her face. I figured she was some sort of model, than at the end of media day I heard one of her ET colleagues call her name. Very attractive young lady, but no Ines.

Man, i have seen much better on Telemundo and Univision. HOWEVER, I THINK ALL ENGLISH SPEAKING PERVERTS LIKE MYSELF SHOULD PETITION SPANISH NETWORK TV FOR ENGLISH SIMULCAST OR CLOSE CAPTIONING. He11, I watch and have no clue what they are saying, if they had ingles ESPN may be in trouble!

I thought that would create a little more buzz, but i understand, tuff to compete with the ines factor.

If I was pregnant and my husband was a journalist out of town on assignment, the VERY LAST thing I would want him writing about was how attractive other women are.

RobGreg - I think you may be onto something.
If English subtitles were available for Spanish language television, within a matter of months America might well be converted into a more literate, bilingual country.
I think I'm going to do some experimenting with my TV's closed captioning this evening ;)

Barefoot, I'm just doing my job. They sent me here to write about offbeat stuff, and, trust me, the sight of cameras walking away from interviewing players to go over an interview a "media member" and I'm using that term lightly, was noticeable.
The Super Bowl on South Beach is about the beautiful people, it seems. It's a scribe's duty to cover it.
Trust me, I would rather be home, but this crazy blog is the reason I ended up down here and not back in NoVa, because I was originally told I could skip this Super Bowl. Redskins Insider is taking over my life.

JLaC - MAD props for Ines. gotta say though...a tad disappointed on not knowing Maria Menounous. Any CP sightings? Dude should get you into a couple of serious parties there.

I'm still catching up with the last few days.
I have the Scooby Doo excuse - if it weren't for those damn kids I would be blogging my guts out!
J-La - LOVE L-O-V-E the reports from Miami! I wasn't all that excited about the SB and I think the week long hoopla is beyond ridiculous but you my friend had me at "Fleabag"
Miami always makes me think of the Denny's menu - Moons Over My Hammy - I know they're a horrible corporation but when you're driving through godforsaken W. Texas there ain't a lot to eat. I know I'm 4 years old but Moons Over My Hammy makes me laugh every single time.
Okay I'm going to keep reading. . .

Dorf will no longer be able to blog his guts out during the work day... I'll check in after work and hang out with the west coasters. I bid thee morning folks fairwell.

JLaC -
You f'n rock. Now this is what i'm talkin about. Ines is "our" type of lady. The best a$$ i have seen in a little while. This is the reporting that should be done during the Super Bowl circus. So here it is...I grew up with a "high ranking official" of the "network". Have "seen" a thing or two. I would bet there is a party going on, but have no specifics. It looks as if you are doing just fine with you own investigations (Ines). I can check if you want.

Barefoot---get a grip.
JLaC is on assignment, not at a bachelor party in Vegas. Yes, there are stunning women in Miami, covering the Super Bowl..big shock.
Another shocker for you, all men look at hot women, it is genetic code. By the way, have you seen this girl's body? It's a nice. High fiveahh!

In the name of Vince Lombardi's Cut Necktie, I can see why all eyes, mikes, Matts, Daves and Scotts were on that woman! That derriere! Where's my Sir Mixalot tape....
She's probably one of those journalists that could get away with saying something inanely useless, like "The halfback and fullback normally line up behind the quarterback", turn around from the camera, and have half-a-million guys declaring that she's the next Walter Kronkite. Guys would be polishing their Emmys for her? Wait, no, that sounds bad. They'll be lining up to give her their Emmys! No, no, that doesn't sound good either....
