Finalizing The Social Outing

Okay, so I checked on the stuff from the weekend and have narrowed our venture down to three possible locales and two possible dates. I'll let this thread go for a few days and count up the votes and let the majority rule. Also, if you can't make it now, don't fear. We'll do another one sometime in the spring once we get the hang of having two kids ruling our lives, and not just one.

So, for the possible spots:

1) Capitol Hill.

2) Georgetown

3) Shirlington or Olde Town Alex.

As for the dates:

1) This weekend (Sunday afternoon might be best for me; and going someplace showing EPL on the dish would kinda rock, too)

2) mid March (after this weekend I will be in full-blown free agency mode until mid-March, when I am taking a bunch of time off to get ready for the baby/turn over my life to the baby.

So that's it. Tell me what you think, and, like Sabbath once said, the mob rules.

Cheers.

Where are the drinks strong and cheap? And make sure that at least one TV is tuned to NFL network so we can entice Lisa...

MR Days in Arlington is a good spot and metro accessible.

Posted by: Robert A Bowie | February 18, 2007 10:25 PM

i don't care either way since i don't drink...i'd prefer non-smoking but if it has to be i can take second hand for a couple of minutes...if i'm free from my daddy duties i'll be there. though it is sunday...don't ya'll have to go to work the next day?

adam, if the terps go 8-8 in acc they're in. i'm pretty sure they can win at least one game in the acc tourney. the FSU game is scaring me. they might be looking past them...to the tars. but if they beat FSU you better watch out...cuz they'll be playing with house money against the tars and the dukies...but but we can't get ahead of ourselves...fsu must go down first!

gary's got A lineup!!!! they've beaten duke by 14, nc state by 15 on the road, clemson by 16 on the road...so there's talent there...all gary's gotta do now is work on the mental part...it's what defines coaches i guess so it's not all that easy.

Posted by: dealer | February 18, 2007 10:29 PM

He's going to always get the best talent at Carolina, especially now that high schoolers have to do at least one year of college

"Uh, Learned Hand, the only 2 NC players playing in your team's 10 deep rotation are Reyshawn Terry and Wes Miller."

Adam you misunderstand and maybe I wasn't clear. I didn't say he was going to get the best talent FROM North Carolina. I was trying to say that is going to successfully recruit the best talent to Carolina, no matter where they're from.

dealer, under Roy, Carolina has a five game winning streak v. Maryland and he's 6-4 v. Gary since coming to UNC.

Is Dupont Circle not an option?

In case anyone case's the East is getting BLOWN OUT big time in the All Star game....

Posted by: Lisa | February 18, 2007 10:42 PM

Oh, and I'll just let the majority rule on date and location.

Harrisonburg - Dave's Taverna

Posted by: Dorf | February 18, 2007 10:50 PM

5 game winning streak?

lh, you're making me wanna go to the game...it's the 24th...which is what...saturday? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm let's see if i can get a couple of tickets...do you know where i can get good tickets to that game?

lh, the terps are looking solid man. only thing they still might have to overcome is immaturity. again fsu game will show us a lot of things about this team...they still can't rebound worth crap though...ibekuwe ibekuwe...

re: roy...yes, he should get the best players but i was just pointing out that he won with someone else's players. nothing wrong with that...just saying he's yet to show that he can recruit a national championship team. and i'm not biased on this thing...i never hated UNC(probly cuz unc hasn't been good since smith left and rw arrived) or roy williams...cuz of jordan...all my hatred is for duke (not coach k eventhough he dissed agent Zero). but even with duke i'm mellowing cuz of the way they lost.

Posted by: dealer | February 18, 2007 11:00 PM

i just checked stubhub....$150!!!!!! the cheapest!!!! wtf! wizards playoff games were cheaper!

Posted by: dealer | February 18, 2007 11:13 PM

"5 game winning streak?"

Yes sir.

"i never hated UNC(probly cuz unc hasn't been good since smith left and rw arrived) or roy williams"

Huh? Were they dominant? No. They had a couple of down years under Doherty but since Dean Smith left, Carolina has been to the Final Four three times and won a NC. A lot of teams would love to do that in 8 seasons. How many F4s does Maryland have in its history?

P Diddy, reason enough in MY book to head for Shirlington . . .

Posted by: stevie in gp | February 19, 2007 1:24 AM

I vote Cap Hill. Pour House has tons of TVs with satellite. So does Ugly Mug. Plus they all have plenty of beer. Smoking is finished in DC bars so that won't be a problem either.

UMD is playing great. Vasquez has become a leader on the court and it's great to see. Even Stawberry made a few shots yesterday.

Posted by: jm199.5 | February 19, 2007 6:22 AM

Yes, no smoking in DC bars. But there are still smokers. They have a special meeting place; its called out on the street in front. Not a smoker, but amused (though I should be concerned/worried) about the butt addiction driving folks out after every round ... in this sub-freezing weather we've been having.

The other pub crawl option MIGHT be Arlington, near Courthouse Metro. At one time, I know that the area near Rhodeside Grill (near Wilson/Rhodes) had some bars (like Amdo and Bardo ... but I think both have since left). Iota is also near there.

Personally, I'm for DC just b/c of the non-smoking. Easier on the laundry that way; less stinky clothes.

Also, was it a conspiracy with Irvin and ESPN to not fire him until he got into the HOF?

They prob was ready to fire him immediately after the CRACK PIPE INCIDENT. But he prob had some people on his side that was telling ESPN that this could ruin his chances of entering the HOF if he was to be fired. So they maybe came up with some type of agreement that he'll stay on until he made the HOF which they expected to be this past year at the latest.

JLaC - If you was getting to OC from Crisfield in 20-30 mins, you guys were doing some serious NASCAR driving. I think it took me about 40 min from UMES and Crisfield is like 15 20 mins they oppositte way. Then again I am a consious driver due to my fear of the police. Too many bad experinces.......

4th,

I hear you about Irvin... If that's the case, then I'm actually glad Irvin got into the HOF this year. Now I can go back to watching ESPN on Sunday mornings. The past few years were horrible with that classless druggie ass clown on the show. He brought everyone on the cast down to his level. I agree that Irvin has the numbers/talent worthy of the HOF, but he was the most annoying jackass of all time on Countdown.
And just a note on how character should play a role in the HOF criteria: if Dallas did not have Irvin (and all the other members of America's Most Wanted on their team), then they would have drafted Randy Moss and that offense would have been nearly unstoppable

For those that are interested, me and the Mrs took in some great documentaries this weekend:

'The Devil & Daniel Johnston'
-Incredible yet tragic look at the manic depressive singer songwriter as he earns a cult following in Austin, TX, NYC and beyond...he eventually signs a major label deal and nearly kills his father. Perfectly done...a very detailed and riveting account of his and troubled life and inspired art and music.

'Grey Gardens'
-Definitely more for the documentary afficionados out there. The film captures Jackie O's cousin and Aunt living in absolute squalor in their rundown oceanside East Hampton mansion with racoons and a bunch of mangy cats. As they live, sleep, eat in one room they both demonstrate severe delusions of granduer, harkening back to their days among the NY social elite. Again, sad but fascinating. Ben Bradlee from the Post eventually buys the house. We scoured every corner of our apt when the movie ended...shaved, cut my nails, gave the dog a bath, etc.

'We Jam Econo...the story of the Minutemen'
A must for any fan of the band. It slows down and becomes a bit repetitive about 3/4 through but the Mike Watt guided tour through San Pedro is worth the price of admission alone.

Funniest thing I've EVER heard on this blog:
A typical front running idiot Dallas fan, who doesn't know his elbow from his ahole when it comes to football, is criticizing a Redskins fan about football knowledge.

Hey Issac Newton: Randy Moss is THE main reason the Vikings broke the all time NFL records for offensive scoring.
I know it hurts to wonder what might have been for your glorious Dallas team of the early 90s, but the facts are the facts. Dallas had a team of criminals who had a nice run for a few years, but because of this, they could not sustain the run for very long.

Top Nerd, the Vikes were pretty unstopple with Moss his rookie year. They set a single season scoring record with Randall Cunningham, who had a career year just tossing it up for Moss to grab. They were 15-1 and lost the NFC championship game in OT after Denny Green opted to down the ball in regulation rather than try to score.

Many NFL analysts make the argument that the Redskins were the team of the 80s. They had a much more dificult schedule/conference than the 49ers. Skins had to play the Giants, Eagles, and Girls twice a year. 49ers got to play the sorry Falcons, Saints, and Rams twice a year.
I guess they argue that if the 49ers and Skins switched conferences, the Skins would have at least one more Superbowl title in the 80s than the 49ers. Now that is clearly impossible to know for sure, but damn, the 49ers were pretty great in the 80s. As a skins fan, I would say the 49ers and Redskins were the coteams of the decade.

Fact: Dallas is NOT known as the team of the 90s... Maybe the team of the EARLY 90s, but, then you would have to say the Broncos were the team of the LATE 90s, and that would be just retarted.

Does anyone know why London Fletcher modified his name to Fletcher-Baker? Is it from a recent marriage or something? That will be tough to fit on the back of a jersey... Might force Snyder to add a few dollars to the Fletcher-Baker 'replica jersey'
Looks like the Titans will make a run at Clement. Is there any other decent corner out there other than Clement?

Posted by: Diesel | February 19, 2007 11:48 AM

Really, the Green Bay Packers (America's Team) were the team of the 90s? 1 Superbowl win, and you call them the team of the decade? Not sure what crack you're smoking, but I'm sure Irvin would like a hit.
(I assume you were not referring to the CURRENT America's Team: the Saints)

I hope Norv does well just because I like Rivers and LT... but with Norv in charge, and without Phillips, I'll bet that defense slides this year.

"Does anyone know why London Fletcher modified his name to Fletcher-Baker?"

Fletcher is his mother's last name. Baker is his father's last name. He did it to honor his grandfather and father because he is the last Baker boy so he need to to carry the name forward.
I know this because I was curious too.

That Jhoon Rhee commercial is classic. Do any of you remember Captain 20 and Count Gore De Vol (played by the same guy) from Channel 20 and Captain Chesapeake from Channel 45? JLaC I know you were a crew member.

Captain Chesapeake theme: "A shipwrecked sailor found himself in a plight. Lost at sea he was really a sight. He swam and swam 'til he thought he'd die, when a wonderous sight appeared to his eye. A derelict boat that saved his life and put an end to his watery strife."

That's very mature of you to belittle Dexter Manley's suffering. He had a problem with a lot of the same things floating around the Cowboys lockerroom- only he wasn't able to break free. How many years of his life were ruined? Dexter was man enough to stand up and give a press conference acknowledging his problem. Cowboys and Redskins fans will always fight. That's a given. Why don't you show a little respect for something that's a long way removed from the football field?

PS- Can anyone tell me how long "America's Team" has been playing football in Dallas, as opposed to the Redskins? (Hint: 1960)

lh, not a carolina fan. like i said i know more about duke than i do about carolina. never really felt the need to hate unc. i guess when md was finally good carolina was bad. and when md was good duke was good. thus the duke/md rivalry. but now duke doesn't have any one player like wojo/jay williams/jj reddick/...either...now that rivalry is kinda onhold. maybe you're a bit older than i am and you rember the dean smith vs. lefty days...but i don't. i enrolled as a fan in the x-ree hip days.

and vasquez is becoming that one player for maryland...

and kinda silly to compare unc basketball to md basketball innit? when every player wants to be the next jordan? all i know is i rather have garyland than royland any time/game. and if you don't see that then either i'm looking thru my diamondback glasses or you're looking thru your babyblue's...and we'll never solve that arguement.

You not old enough to have been a Len Bias fan? I remember my friend had a poster, black and white, of Bias soaring up about to dunk as one Carolina guy, staring up as if awed, stood by truly being "poster-ized". surprised you don't remember the following Bias sequence from the 1986 UNC/UMD game (first Carolina loss at the Dean Dome).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KdFhvX8Xaw

To summarize:

Knock down 20 ft jumper
Steal inbounds pass
Elevate for reverse jam on defenseless 7fter

You can also check out a longer version of the game highlights here

Unfortunately, you'll have to suffer through Robert Nowak providing his "narrative" to do it (ugh).

Chicago is not bringing Rivera back? Are they stupid? Or just angry that he has been interviewing?

Posted by: Lisa | February 19, 2007 3:13 PM

Exactly what high ground can Dallas fans claim?

Superbowls:
They were not the first to win 4 (Steelers were) were not the first to win 5 (San Fran) and were not most recent to win 5 (Steelers again)

Nickname:
Americas Team WAS Dallas, then Green Bay, this year it's New Orleans... Dallas lost title of Americas team when they became America's Most Wanted team...
Dallas is now known as Mexicos team

Recent History:
Notice how Dallas fans always throw out that they won 5 superbowls and have been in X playoff games and X championships... notice how they were soooo quite the past decade when they failed to reach the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Fan base:
Clearly, to overcome their own personal feelings of inadequacy, Dallas fans must associate themselves with a 'winning' team. The typical Cowboy fan never played even high school football, never set foot in Dallas or Texas, knows little about the game itself, sucks at fantasy football, has an older brother or father that is a Redskins fan that they could not live up to so the only way to compete was to pick a glamour team that always gets the big name players.

Owner:
Jerry Jones had a team that could have dominated for an entire decade, like the Packers of the 60s, Steelers of the 70s, and Redskins/49ers of the 80s. But he single handedly ruined it. Dallas could have set unbreakable records for consecutive Super Bowl wins, but Jones threw it all away because his ego was too big, even for the state of Texas. He got drunk and fired Jimmy Johnson, hired a crazy cheat in his redneck buddy Barry Switzer, and then he proceeded to turn "America's Team" into "Americas Most Wanted" by fielding a lineup of thugs and criminals
Sure, 3 championships in one decade is great... a handful of teams have accomplished that. But Jones took what should have been the greatest dynasty of all time, and turned it into a team that was one Thurman Thomas fumble and one Neil O'Donnell interception away from winning only 1 Superbowl during their run. Until Jones came along, the Cowboys had always been winners... they have the most championship game appearances, most superbowls, etc... But Jones has reduced Dallas from perennial contender to a franchise that has gone over a decade without a playoff win. Never, in the history of the ever glorious Dallas Cowboys, has the team experienced such a long string of disappointment and failure. In the 60s, 70s, 80s and early 90s, it was impossible to imagine that by the year 2007 Dallas would be lumped in the same category as the Lions, Cardinals and Saints. But here we are, and the facts speak for themselves... and the Dallas fans are so bitter. Perhaps the lesson to be learned here is that when you choose to be a front-runner fan, and pick a glamour team like the Cowboys (or Yankees or Notre Dame, etc) because of their reputation as winners, you better be prepared to stand by that team when they become losers. If not, you will turn into the type of fan that lives in denial of their team's failures, and rather than face the reality of the situation, they ignore the coverage of their team and instead spend time talking trash on the blog of their rivals. No fan epitomizes this better than the typical Dallas fan.

Lisa - Rivera is stuck on being a head coach. Da Bears want consistancy, so it was more of a mutual thing. Plus Lovie dosen't want good assistants leaving to other teams, so he is promoting their LB Coach from with in the Organization. MAkes sense to me....

SB appearences
conference championships
division titles
playoff wins
playoff appearences
head to head
gibbs losing record
Jerry Jones has same amount of rings as your whole pathetic 60 yr history!

Naming other teams shows what an idiot you really are.cowboys vs redskins

John Clayton from ESPN just reported that the Rivera firing most likely had to do with money. He said Rivera is now most likely on the outside looking in. I'm sure the Skins could find a place for him.

Posted by: Lisa | February 19, 2007 3:36 PM

My point wasn't that the Redskins are better than the Cowboys (although in MEANINGFUL games, the skins do have the edge. Overall, I will admit that the Cowboys have the better record, more superbowls, etc)
My point was that the Cowboys are NOT the greatest team of all time (obviously, not recently, but not from a collective historic perspective either). If you want to live in your own little world where your favorite team is the greatest ever just because they happen to be 'your' team, then go right ahead. But I wonder, what color is the sky on your planet?

Posted by: Facts | February 19, 2007 3:37 PM

Ugh, guys, stop, we get it: one group of folks loves the cowboys, one group the Skins, we get it. ITA. Now, can we get back to quoting Team America? Or discussing how Chicago's front office got tired of Rivera pimping himself?

although, if you look at BOOFER's names in his excruciatingly-typed posts (what, are you using a keyboard with only Japanese characters written on it, relying on muscle-memory to get the letters right?), they're actually pretty creative.

Posted by: stevie in gp | February 19, 2007 3:38 PM

Would Rivera want another D-coordinator job? Or just sit out a year and wait for the next head coaching opportunity? Just seems strange that the Bears would let him go like that... maybe Lovie Smith is really calling all the shots on defense in Chicago?

Sorry, just one more tidbit for the ass clown to munch on...

Since you like to go WAY back into history to brag on Dallas, then check this out:
http://www.hickoksports.com/history/profootchampions.shtml#nfl1920
(Scroll down to see all the NFL champions)

The Redskins have a total of 5 Championships too! So you can scratch that off your list. You are tied with us!

Dallas isn't even in the top 2, or alone in the top 6
Packers have 14 championships
Bears have 8
Colts have 5
49ers have 5
Steelers have 5
Redskins have 5

And since losing in Superbowls and Conference Championship games isn't really something to brag about, I know this has gotta hurt... still, the Redskins have been in more league championship games (10) than Dallas (8)
Shh... you hear that? That's the sound of your world coming crashing down on top of you!
Sorry, pal, maybe blogging just isn't your game. I know, let's have a spelling contest!

Posted by: Facts | February 19, 2007 4:20 PM

My favorite sequence from Team America: after passing on the gig fighting terror, Gary does some soul-searching while visiting patriotic sights in DC, with the stirring, new-country-style ballad 'Freedom Isn't Free' playing:

"What would you do
If you were asked to give up your dreams for freedom?
What would you do
If asked to make the ultimate sacrifice?
...
Freedom isn't free
No, there's a hefty f**kin' fee
And if you don't throw in your buck -oh-five who will?"

All the shots of Gary around DC are great, but the Gary puppet in silhouette, leaning against a tombstone in Arlington Cemetery (which is taller than he is), is priceless.

NFL Live then went on to talk about the Skins needs: Mike Golic thinks Jamal Anderson would be perfect for us and thinks that is the direction we will go. Suzy Kolber also mentioned that KC was only 6-10 Al Saunders first year there but that the offense really took the second season.....I can hope, right?

If the Skins do stay at #6 it looks like it will be Anderson, Adams or Branch. Okoye looks to go after 10. From some of the highlights I have seen it looks like Anderson may be a more complete DE than Adams. Adams seems to be a pure edge rusher while Anderson has some more size to play the run better. With Carter on one side, Anderson seems to be a better fit. It's harder to find a star pash rusher than a run stuffing DT in my mind. While Branch would be a solid pick as well, if Anderson is the real deal and Carter plays like he did the last month of 2006, it will help to mask some of the problems in the secondary.

I think I was first up here predicting Norv Turner to the Chargers. For what it's worth, which admittedly isn't much. File under: blind squirrel finding nut.

Norv spoke that insulting line about Darrell Green not being capable of covering Michael Irvin, which revealed a lack of class and a pro-Cowboys bias, both of which are unbecoming for a gent who was a mediocre coach here and was kept on much longer than he deserved.

I guess what I'm saying is, F Norv. Had he not insulted Darrell that way, I would wish him all the success possible, since the AFC West is pretty far away from us. But now I hope he sucks the life right out of that locker room, the way only he can, and fails miserably in San Diego.

Absurdly overpriced, yes, but I have to admit these two items from the Skins store look pretty dadgum cool:

Skins throwback track jacket -- this should come with a whistle and a clipboard for tucking into the waistband. (But 160 bucks? Come on.)
http://store.redskins.com/productinfo.asp?item=525&deptcode1=536&sn=9

Is this Earnest Byner wearing the sweet letter jacket? (Ahem, four hundred bucks for this?)
http://store.redskins.com/productinfo.asp?item=214&deptcode1=536&cart=

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | February 19, 2007 5:40 PM

Nate,
Yeah,, I guess it's nearly impossible to be a Norv fan... and the classless quote he had about DG is enough for all Skins fans to become Chargers haters for the next year and 1/2 (my prediciton for how long Norv will last in SD)
But from a fantasy football perspective, will LTs value ever be any higher? I mean Norv got record numbers from Terry Allen, Stephen Davis, Frank Gore, etc.
Should at least be interesting to see if LT gets 2000 this year.

Posted by: Diesel | February 19, 2007 5:41 PM

The throwback jacket is pretty sweet. I had something like that in elementary school, but it didn't have the logo on the sleeve/wrist... and I'm pretty sure my Dad bought it for me at Roses for $4.99

Chargers fans must be considering a leap off the Coronado Bridge. They go 14-2 and excuse themselves from the playoffs early (again) and then the entire staff leaves... and the new head coach is Norv.

But yes, Diesel, this bodes well for LT, if not for the team as a whole.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | February 19, 2007 5:46 PM

I don't know why it didn't occur to me sooner -- maybe because Denver is the only team on which we've bestowed 'most favored nation' trading status.

Now that Asante Samuel has been franchised by the Pats, we can swoop in and give them two #1 picks for him. No questions asked!

Then we could use all our cap room to sign him to an absurd contract extension. That would kill one bird with all our available stones. Brilliant!

Go Vinny go!

Regarding the discussion on choosing a DE in the draft -

Tracy Rocker (born April 9, 1966) is the defensive line coach for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks college football team. He was drafted in 1989 by the Washington Redskins. (During Gibb's 1.0)

Tracy Rocker was Jamaal Anderson's defensive line coach in college.

Thought that might interest a few of you.

ITA!

Posted by: The Mole | February 19, 2007 5:54 PM

And a few more tidbits -

Arkansas junior defensive end Jamaal Anderson earned first-team All-SEC honors and honorable mention All-America honors for the Razorbacks. He finished sixth on the squad with 65 tackles and led the SEC in sacks (13.5 - 95 yards) and ranked second in the league in tackles for loss (19.5 - 108 yards). Anderson led the team with 26 quarterback hurries and finished a half-sack short of tying the UA single season record for sacks (14) held by Henry Ford (1993) and Steven Conley (1995). - Arkansas Sports Information

Posted by: The Mole | February 19, 2007 6:04 PM

Diesel - Both Anderson and Adams played LDE in college so there wouldn't have to be any shifting with either guy.

Norv just hit the lottery. How could he not succeed with all that talent? Still will take him 3 years of 12-4 just to get his career record to .500

Posted by: cdubb | February 19, 2007 6:08 PM

Lise, Thanks for the info on Rivera. As a Redskins fan, it's so foreign to me that a team had to get rid of a coach because of money. I guess that's one good thing about Snyder.

Mole, THAT is why I tune in here every day. Thanks for those nuggets.

cdubb, thanks for the info on the DEs. Looks like either would be a good fit for us, but I watched a bunch of ACC games this year and saw Clemson a few times... can't say I remember Adams standing out.

Posted by: Diesel | February 19, 2007 6:14 PM

And a little more trivia about Jamaal Anderson -

HIGH SCHOOL CAREER: He racked up 85 catches for 1,620 yards and 13 touchdowns in his prep career. He played both wide receiver and defensive end. He left as the all-time leading receiver at Parkview High School after eclipsing the mark held by former Green Bay Packers tight end and current Arkansas Razorback Sports Network color commentator Keith Jackson. He also owns career school records for most receptions and most touchdown catches. He earned 30 receptions for 430 yards and six touchdowns in just eight games as a senior. In his junior campaign, he hauled in 23 passes for 530 yards and four touchdowns. He was named to the All-Junior Arkansas team as well as garnering all-conference accolades. He was also voted the most outstanding receiver on his squad. As a sophomore, he made 33 catches for 660 yards and three scores. A standout in high school basketball as well, he was a teammate of fellow Razorback Marc Winston. He was nominated for the McDonald's All-Star Basketball Game. He also participated in track and field.

PERSONAL: Born Feb. 6, 1986, he is the son of Glenn and Karen Anderson. His father Glenn played college basketball at Gallaudet University. He was a member of the 2004-05 Lon Farrell Academic Honor Roll.

Posted by: curious george | February 19, 2007 6:26 PM

One final tidbit on Jamaal Anderson -

He played Left DE for the entire 2006 season. In 2005, he played Right DE.

By the numbers, the left side seems like a better fit for him. Having experience on both sides is a plus.

Posted by: The Mole | February 19, 2007 6:29 PM

Not even sure what is being implied here, but I was here when BOOFER was posting. I just didn't use the name Diesel on a regular basis... I used the name 'boycott guy' a few times, and odd ball names here and there (Vic Ferrari, Dallas Sucks, etc)... I didn't decide on 'Diesel' until recently (I wear #44 in a rec-basketball league, and some guys on the team call me Diesel... Riggo is my fav Skin of all time, so I decided to use Diesel as my post name on the regular, bro)

Posted by: Diesel | February 19, 2007 6:36 PM

Steve,
I think Snyder and Cerrato would offer our first 2 wins of the season to the Broncos in that package.

Posted by: Diesel | February 19, 2007 6:40 PM

Stevie -

I guess that was an attempt at Vinny comedy?

There is ample talent among the top 6 to stay at #6, rather than moving up. If there are lower teams interested in moving up, then moving down and getting extra picks is even better. While Adams and Anderson may be the top 2 DEs, there is lots of very good talent available at the position this year.

P.S. Additional note to curious george: Diesel has been a trusted blogger here. Boofer and his anonymous clones are not. Caveat emptor.

Stevie -

The only way I see the Redskins moving up is if they can get the Raiders to swap the #1 overall pick for:

-The #6 pick; as well as all of the Skins lower round picks for 2007; plus
-Jason Campbell; plus
-Santana Moss; plus
-A player to be named later - probably someone good who has a low cap number.

Then the Redskins will pick JaMarcus Russell with the #1 pick.

Why JaMarcus Russell? Let's ask Joe Gibbs.

"Gosh, he's bigger than George Rogers, faster than Riggo, taller than Doug Williams, and throws farther than Mark Rypien. With JaMarcus lining up behind the New Hogs and throwing deep to BLloyd, that's all we'll need! WE HAVE TO GET HIM!" (Insert creepy little Gibbs giggle here.) "Oh, and Mark can start at quarterback until JaMarcus learns our new streamlined playbook and is ready to go."

Priceless!

not sure what this proves, but I'm trying to be a good sport about it

Curious G,
I don't think too many people are left on the ole blog at this hour. Were you implying that I am Boofer? I guess that's the worst insult you can bestow upon someone on this blog, but I'm not sure why you think that way? I pretty much made solid arguements that totally disputed all the claims made by the trolls about how great the boys are... I posted facts that proved how anyone can twist data around to make their team sound like the greatest. Why would I submit proof against Dallas that can't really be argued if I were Boofer? Unless you think Boofer is really a skins fan who just posts here to keep up our hate towards dallas? If so, then he fooled me!

Diesel if everyone was to post at same time it would allow us to figure out whos using multiple post names or at the very least how many DIFFERENT bloggers we have.I hope we have more then 2 because that would be very sad!Jason better just get a booth at DENNYS for you three!!

Posted by: curious george | February 19, 2007 8:08 PM

Jason
reserve a booth at the nearest Dennys to your house.I have a feeling there will be alot of no shows(at least at the gathering)im sure most post names will be there in mind? All 4 or 5 of you should have a blast but watch out for people with multiple post names!!

I have a bit of a sweet tooth.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | February 19, 2007 9:28 PM

I'm trying to sort through what we have up here. It's not a failure to communicate, it's a weird mesh of different kinds of messages.

1. Posts about the Skins and NFL. This is where we count on Lisa, Megskin, The Mole, and other core bloggers.

2. Posts about other sports. Like when J-La raps about soccer.

3. Posts about other pop culture topics. Like the weekly '24' discussion group.

4. Posts about personal matters. P Diddy is the king of this sort of thing, but we all jump in periodically to discuss hamburgers, jobs, and snowstorms, which is awesome.

5. Posts responding to other posts or addressing a fellow blog contributor (usually also falls in one of the other categories). This is probably our largest category by volume. "Smack to the back of the head." is the chief example.

6. Posts about the blog itself. "The blog is running slow. We need a new thread." "I was fired because of all the time I spent on this blog." "I love this freakin' blog."

And for each category is a bizarro counterpart, featuring unpleasant crap from trolls whose only purpose is to rile us up and destroy the lovingly woven, burgundy and gold fabric of the blog.

Let's not let the unpleasant crap from trolls mitigate our fun. Ignore The Assclowns! (How is that word permissible up here anyway?)

Not sure where this rant came from, but I'm wrestling with the undercurrent of unpleasantness which has crept in from time to time.

As SMACK said, and thank goodness for him, it's a long offseason, we've got to stick together despite our differences (I'm paraphrasing). If we spend any more time and energy worrying about the trolls, much less responding to them, then the trolls have won.

TAKE BACK THE BLOG, people.

redskins 5 SBs 3-2
cowboys 8 SBs 5-3

SBs started in 1967 and this is both teams records.the debate between Diesel or facts & cowgirl fan was clearly about SBs.Im sorry but Diesel clearly spun the facts and tried to include history that didnt have SBs or the cowgirls!
