Off Duty

Alright, looks like I just wrote my last story for a while and I'm fixing to take some vacation time. AD passed his physical, the Patten release finally went down. Some loose ends were tied up.

Still plenty to keep a watch on - draft trades, or just trades in general - and trust me, covering this team there is no downtime. Always something to keep an eye on. My main man and partner in crime Howard Bryant will be handling the daily beat stuff for a while as Lauren and I prepare for the new arrival next week (if not sooner).

I will back on regular duty sometime before the draft (maybe that week or something, Cyn Cyty?), but I have accrued a lot of comp time, so plan to indulge in some of that now that I finally get a chance.

I will still blog from time to time depending on the day and will try to at least get a fresh page up when I can (with some help from Cindy). Also, keep those guests blogs coming and by all means have some fun. Give a little, take a little, keep a smile on your face.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.

Cheers.

Happy trails, JLC! Have a great vacation. We'll be here when you get back.

Cyn Cyty... bring it!

Wheeew! starting to wonder if AA passed that physical. Whats done is done, lets ready for a couple of weeks of draft conspiracy theories. Other than that I dont see too much happening at Redskins park. Enjoy your comp time JLaC

your inside info will be sorely missed...

NOT!!!

Posted by: nonon | March 22, 2007 9:29 PM

How much cap space is saved by releasing Patten?

Posted by: skinfanman | March 22, 2007 9:41 PM

nonon, thanks for stopping back in.

cutting patten saves like $750K on the cap, skinfan.

Posted by: Jason La Canfora | March 22, 2007 9:50 PM

i'm so excited. not only do we get a whole 6th round pick for Arch, VC says we're probably going to stay at number 6. Whoot. It's going to be so totally awesome when they draft a guy, and then cut him next year, although he could just get immediately hurt.

Posted by: tampadave | March 22, 2007 9:54 PM

JLC...
just wanted to give you an early congratulations are the new addition and tell you to enjoy your time off. you been grinding for awhile and im sure you and your wife will enjoy you being off for a bit.

thanks for all you do for the redskins nation

Posted by: Kenny | March 22, 2007 10:04 PM

There has always been a theory with media folk. People who like the stuff check it out very often but the people who hate it or think they do check in more. Such is the case with nonon. You have won him over JLC. Good luck to you and yours.

Posted by: Littlejohn | March 22, 2007 10:06 PM

Congrats in advance.

And thanks for putting the extremeskin mods in their place. Great, great stuff.

Posted by: Congrats | March 22, 2007 10:12 PM

JLaC-

Congrats on the imminent arrival, as well as taking some hard earned time off. Get ready for those sleepless nights again. Although, as I'm sure you've seen with Chloe, they grow up FAST. I can't believe our little girl is almost 3 1/2 months already. Had our first poop during bathtime experience tonight...and we actually laughed. Yup, definitely a parent thing.

Posted by: 4-12 | March 22, 2007 10:13 PM

Don't you think they might have been just fine with David Patten last year, without having to go after Brandon Lloyd?

Posted by: Ron | March 22, 2007 10:13 PM

I realize this is a dumb question but can someone please tell me what MOD stands for -as in ExtremeSkins mod?

Posted by: Lisa | March 22, 2007 10:32 PM

Lisa, moderator.

Posted by: dcsween | March 22, 2007 10:35 PM

Maybe I should have been more specific. A moderator is like a manager/custodian of a web discussion ... enforces the rules, etc. (e.g., removing posts that violate the rules). If there are passwords or usernames, the manage that stuff. Blah blah blah.

Posted by: dcsween | March 22, 2007 10:37 PM

Its a huge job on a site like wikipedia. ES mods mostly (it seems) watch troublesome posters, sometimes limit them from posting new threads for flagrant violators. RI doesn't really need much in terms of a moderator, probably just someone to clean out the daveb55 posts or the ones about farts/blog stinks, probably not until closing the thread and archiving. Just a guess.

Posted by: dcsween | March 22, 2007 10:40 PM

Thanks, dcsween.

By the way, America's Game: The 1982 Redskins was on the NFL Network tonight. Did anyone see it? Fabulous.

Also, Doc Walker was amazing HOT back in the day (he still has it going on in my opinion) - kinda resembled my man Springs.

Posted by: Lisa | March 22, 2007 10:42 PM

David Patten is gone.
Poor guy was always injured.
I'd really rather have seen a shake up invovling Brandon Lloyd being released.
Guess they figured he cost them too much in the draft to give up on him so soon.

Reminds me of Duckett.
Ooops I forgot, they thought it just fine to let go of a #3 round [when there are only 7 rounds] on Duckett yet did he even carry the ball twenty times?

Denver trading Al Wilson to Giants?
He was offered here in that deal for the 6th pick, and we turned it down to sign a 32 year old LB instead.

Can anyone say, "Here we go again"

Posted by: Redskin Ray | March 22, 2007 10:45 PM

Ahhhh the 82 'Skins.

Theismann, Riggins, Joe Washington, Charley Brown, Art Monk, Alvin Garrett, Don Warren, Rick Doc Walker, Jacoby, Grimm, Bostic, Dean, Starke running the ball down the Cowgirls throat to win the NFC title game and head to the SB XVII.

I was so excited! RKF was rockin'!

Posted by: Redskin Ray | March 22, 2007 10:49 PM

typo:
RFK was rockin'!

Posted by: Redskin Ray | March 22, 2007 10:50 PM

Thanks so much for the kind words guys. Hopefully everything will go as smoothly with the BTBNL (baby to be named later) as it did with Chloe's delivery (easy for me to say, I know).

I will call Cindy when I get a chance and have her post the particulars on the web. Have a feeling this one - be a boy or girl - is going to be a butterball.

4-12 - can't believe it has been that long since you guys went thru this. man, time does fly.
Chloe only did the old No. 2 in the tub thing once, and she actually dropped it as my parent's house in Bmore. I was out with the boys and missed the entire scene.

Cheers.

Best of luck! Cross your fingers and hope for twins!

Posted by: cload and daggar | March 22, 2007 11:04 PM

And if you think a 6th for Archi is bad, the Chiefs are about to settle for a 7th for Trent Green.

Speaking of which, is archi a firm sixth or is there still some conditional change still lurking about?

Posted by: cload and daggar | March 22, 2007 11:11 PM

Jason, you definitely do not want twins! I'm a twin so I know something about that.

Posted by: Lisa | March 22, 2007 11:16 PM

But with twins, you've always got someone around to keep their eye on the NFLN!

Posted by: cload and daggar | March 22, 2007 11:19 PM

Hey, it might be worth your time to take one last trip to Arch Deluxe!,
which surprisingly has been updated to include news of the trade, and most importantly has an updated poll -- "what do you think of the trade"
Of course the only answers are "great for the bears" or "bummer, would've been great for the skins".
There might be other options he hadn't had time to consider, but what with the crush of deadlines....

Posted by: cload and daggar | March 22, 2007 11:36 PM

Best of luck to you and your wife! You'll be in our prayers!

Posted by: icarus | March 22, 2007 11:37 PM

All the best to you and the fam, J-la. Just make sure you don't use your vacation time to run yourself even more ragged....

Posted by: FlimFlam | March 23, 2007 12:06 AM

Redskin Ray - I don't know what the rumored deal for the 6th pick and Al Wilson would have been, but it seems to me we are better off with Fletcher and the 6th pick than with Wilson and Denver's pick. Also Wilson has been in the league 8 years according to what I read so he is probably not much younger than Fletcher.

What I read was that the Bronco's were trying to trade
Wilson for cap room even though he had a great year for them last year. Seems like they may be the ones getting rid of their own proven player to splurge on FA's. They spent a lot more than us on them this year.

Posted by: Greg in NC | March 23, 2007 12:06 AM

Not necessarily, Cload. My twin sister (who lives in FL) knows NOTHING about football and does not follow it at all. Imagine that.

Posted by: Lisa | March 23, 2007 7:19 AM

What do the G-Men want with Al Wilson? Does this mean A.P. will be a cap casualty??? Let the rumors begin!

Posted by: etrod | March 23, 2007 8:04 AM

Most of the mods on extremeskins think they are Gods. What a bunch of turds.

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | March 23, 2007 8:51 AM

sween,

The mods on extremeskins actually start "threads" or discussions with the title, "post in this thread and you get banned". what is the point of that? to flex your geeky internet muscles?

I stopped going to extremeskins because of stupid stuff like that.... oh, and also because most of the mods, and about 50% of the crowd over there, think the Skins can do no wrong and make you feel like a moron for disagreeing with anything they do.

JLC, congrats on the new baby.

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | March 23, 2007 8:56 AM

Who do the Broncos have in mind to play MLB? Could they be moving up to take Willis in the draft? I hear the Ole Miss LB ran better than a 4.4.

I heard AP got some criticism in NY, which seems unfair since the real reason the Gints always tank at the end of the year is due to injuries, especially to their defense.

Posted by: skinfanman | March 23, 2007 8:56 AM

Who saw that Dateline special last Sunday night? The one where the wives videotaped their husbands watching football.... pretty classic stuff.

In any case, for those who saw it, who else felt like a pile of cow dung after the NYG husband called AP "the heart and sole of their defense"?

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | March 23, 2007 9:02 AM

I wonder if the Giants' constant spate of injuries have anything to do with the coaching staff's approach?

Posted by: P Diddy | March 23, 2007 9:05 AM

Posted by: Mark (in 21132) | March 23, 2007 9:08 AM

What was the thesis of that Dateline special??? Sounds like another "School busses with missing wheels are dangerous!" Dateline episode.

Ah, but then I'm a cynic. I simply can't watch news on television anymore (except Jon Stewart).

Oh, and I'm up at 6am because probably for the first time in my life, I'm actually nervous about meeting a certain local billionaire who controls my future startup with a go/no-go decision on funding. The decision won't come today, but the long business plan process continues...

Enjoy the well earned time off from work (can't really call it a vacation 'cause you'll be busy with other things) and best wishes to you and Lauren on a safe and speedy delivery. I (and others?) owe you a celebratory beer some night in the future.

As for jm220, quoting from Lisa's blog entry...

Jason, you definitely do not want twins! I'm a twin so I know something about that.

Should you ever get to DC and due to unfortunate timing, find that Lisa's sister is in town, I am a very capable wingman.

Or would that be cramping your style?

Adam

PS jm220/lisa, just a little friendly ribbing between family members. please do not kick my ass when you see me in NO.

Posted by: EaglesFan | March 23, 2007 9:16 AM

The pooch and I went to the vet last week and she say he's doing quite fine. I have to do (hilarious!) strength-building exercises with him. The whole "daddy" thing with this ordeal is (gasp!) growing on me. I feel remarkably responsible for a change :-)

I had noticed that even before his pelvic fracture he was getting underfoot quite a bit. My upstairs neighbor stated the obvious, which I had not thought of: "he's getting older and slowing down."

Wow, my 10 year old dog, who has been with me for the bulk of my adult life, through breakups, and heartache, and trans-Oceanic moves, and just about every meaningful moment of my life is getting...old. That means I am too :-)

Thanks for asking!

Adam

Posted by: EaglesFan | March 23, 2007 9:19 AM

You know it's a different type of offseason for the Redskins...when they didn't sign Trent Green (b/c he knows the system), cut clipboard Collins, and demoted JC to second string and made Brunell the highest paid third string QB. Before the offseason started, that would have been my guess. Whewwww I'm glad that didn't happen, but wait the offseason is not over yet...

Posted by: Anonymous | March 23, 2007 9:19 AM

You have to appreciate this offseason. No splashy signings, addressing a need (CB) with a cheap player with a proven track record in their system, and jettisoning bad signings from the past once and for all.

I still agree with the "sleeping giant" thesis that JLaC posed. The 'Skins could be dangerous for years if they get a serious football guy who can articulate and drive a vision for the organization, plan a coherent coaching succession strategy for St. Joe, and maintain discipline in personnel signings.

I'm not saying...

Posted by: etrod | March 23, 2007 9:41 AM

EaglesFan no problem being the wingman. There were be no kicking my friend (that's for the ES clowns) but there will be a smack to the back of your head. I sent you two e mails about the trip. Why haven't you respond? Where is the hammer?

Hello Lisa I hope all is well.

Congrats in advance to J-La. Be strong, big fella, take care of your bidness, and don't worry about the blog, we've got it under control.

P Diddy, it's great to see you up here and to hear about Diddy Dog's recovery. Kick ass in your meeting today. You're going to rock.

"Sleeping giant," what a terrific epithet, encapsulating what we'd all like to believe about our team (expect, uh, Adam and SMACK). If it didn't contain a division rival's mascot, I would nominate it as our new team nickname.

Whew, looks like we survived another blog war, or skirmish anyway. To paraphrase Neville Chamberlain, there are no winners in a blog war, only losers.

Guess you didn't get yesterday's email. The really brief summary is I'm definitely in, but haven't had much chance to work out exactly when I can get to/from DC to NO.

Since I had a few more questions about the trip, could you double check your mailbox to see if it's in there? Unfortunately, I didn't save a copy of it, so I'd have to reconstruct it from memory if you don't have the note.

Congrats JLC. Please take some much deserved time off. The regulars will be fine for a little while without their shepherd.

Is there any chance that when your wife gives birth, you could get her to yell: 'HAYUKEN!' No? Inappropriate?

The skins are like a sleeping giant that was gassed, taken out into the middle of the barren wilderness and tied to the table legs in a meth lab.

Excuse the shameless plug, but if any of you are bored this evening, swing by the Arlington Cinema N Drafthouse. Really cool comedy show. That felt dirty.

Last, I believe the Houston Texans are the worst organization in pro sport. They have redefined what it means to overpay.

Hello Greg in NC
Lived in NC myself for three years!

Hey, I recall Jason posting this, and I also read this on a Denver site. So I looked for it, found it and am posting the link for you which actually includes Denver and their citing of Jason here on this WPost blog.

Here it is for you:
http://www.milehighreport.com/story/2007/3/7/112646/4635

Good hearing from you.
Where do you reside in NC?

Posted by: Redskin Ray | March 23, 2007 10:51 AM

I was thinking he deserved a 10M bonus for catching more than 20 balls in 2 years. We should have also given New England a 2nd round draft pick for coaching him up so well prior to joining the skins.

Posted by: Cerattto | March 23, 2007 11:00 AM

could just be WFAN in NY being who they are, but they just reported that as well as the Giants, the Skins are interested in trading for Al Wilson

Posted by: connskins | March 23, 2007 11:05 AM

Has anyone seen my handcuffs?

Posted by: Jenny | March 23, 2007 11:10 AM

Broncos made a proposal involving middle linebacker Al Wilson, their first-round pick (21st overall), a third-round pick and perhaps a second-round pick to land Washington's sixth-overall pick

I am not sure why the didn't go for that one. A player and some more draft picks. WTF was they thinking?

Posted by: jm220 | March 23, 2007 11:14 AM

Hi jm220, how are you? Did you meet with Nate on Monday?

Posted by: Lisa | March 23, 2007 11:14 AM

Good luck to you and Lauren, and to your little girl heading toward big-sisterhood.

Posted by: Deanna | March 23, 2007 11:14 AM

No Lisa I didn't get a chance to meet with Nate and the crew on Monday. We had a deadline on applications for the FCC. Damn them. lol

Posted by: jm220 | March 23, 2007 11:19 AM

What do the G-Men want with Al Wilson? Does this mean A.P. will be a cap casualty??? Let the rumors begin!

Posted by: etrod | March 23, 2007 08:04 AM

The Giants are very short on experienced linebackers. Pierce is their only projected returning starter. Also heard that some are not thrilled there with Pierce at MLB and may move him to OLB if they can find an experienced MLB. That would seem to explain their talks with Denver - trade for Wilson, move Pierce to OLB, and draft another OLB. If they can't get Wilson, then Willis might be on their radar. If they get Wilson, they might be looking to draft an OLB instead.

I also read that the Giants asked Chicago about Briggs, indicating the need for LBs in NY is real. Maybe we should send them Holdman's cell number.

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 11:31 AM

I'm not sure what the Broncos are thinking. They sign a ton of FA's then have to trade Al Wilson, the heart of their defense, for CAP reasons. They say they'll try and move DJ William inside. Their D-line is no great shakes and now they want to weaken their LB core, their strongest unit? Definite head scratcher.

Posted by: skinswest | March 23, 2007 11:35 AM

could just be WFAN in NY being who they are, but they just reported that as well as the Giants, the Skins are interested in trading for Al Wilson

Posted by: connskins | March 23, 2007 11:05 AM

Schefter mentioned something on that on NFLN yesterday - that the Redskins were initially interested in Wilson but not lately. Detroit was mentioned as still being interested.

The agent was quoted late last night that they were not close to a deal with NY. Sounded like he was trying to drive up the price by implying that many more teams were interested than just the Giants. That's always a good time to mention the Redskins.

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 11:39 AM

Art - the prevailing feeling down here is - absolutely YES - they overpaid for Schaub - but there is a feeling of relief that Carr will be gone. I am glad that I don't have the agony of being a Texans fan. If Schaub outperforms Carr, even a little, then no one will care. But as to them being the worst organization in pro sports, yes they do try harder.

Posted by: John D in Houston | March 23, 2007 11:40 AM

If Denver doesn't get some cap relief, they won't have any money to sign draft picks. LOL - sound familiar? Wilson has a big cap number so trading him would help a lot. Maybe that's why they are hanging with the very cheap Mr. Bly for 2007 - they can't afford Springs.

As for the alleged deal with Denver involving Wilson and picks, here is the probable conversation at Ashburn in February -

Gibbs - Vinny says we can get Al Wilson and a bunch of draft picks from Denver - cheap!.
G. Williams - Nahh, forget about those draft picks, Joe. More rookies are no good. Al Wilson is no good. We need London Fletcher.

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 11:49 AM

John D in Houston- Are Texans fans really that weary of Carr? I know he's struggled, but isn't the O-line the big issue? Dude's been sacked like, what, 250 plus times in 5 years.

Posted by: 4-12 | March 23, 2007 11:52 AM

jcl...
best to you, the misses and the new one.. i'm brand new to this blogging stuff.. and really enjoying the redskins chat.. plus the opportunity to air my own stuff out.. your blogs are great.. hope to hear from you soon.. only wish the post a comment section was at the top with the latest posting just underneath so i wouldn't have to go all the way to the bottom of hundreds of postings..

Posted by: vpar | March 23, 2007 11:54 AM

Schaub doesn't have to outperform Carr - he has to outperform Vince Young. Texan fans will never forget that 2006 shabingus. Hey, but they got Ahman Green to help the fans forget about Reggie Bush too. And maybe the Astros will have a good year.

My guess is they will have to change the name of the team when they move to L.A.

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 11:56 AM

To continue the conversation about Al Wilson.

Dan S - Let's sign him Vinny. I'll give him $10M over 3 years and a $75M signing bonus.

Vinny - $75 million, are you sure?

Dan S. - No problem, I'll start charging fans to EXIT the stadium...

Posted by: Anonymous | March 23, 2007 11:56 AM

I know some folks here don't like Shefter, but when it comes to issues with the Broncos he's usually well informed - he's a former Denver writer. I believe he was the one who broke the portis-bailey deal before anyone else. It's been rumored (at least by jealous radio guys) that he's pretty tight with Shanahan

Posted by: skinswest | March 23, 2007 11:57 AM

So if jm220 is correct and the Broncos really did offer the Skins #21 and a 2nd and 3rd and Al Wilson for the #6 I will repeat the comment of WTF were they thinking

Lest I forget -

Mssr. La Canfora,

Best wishes to you and your family in the coming days. You know you have the thoughts and prayers of many of us here.

Pamper Lauren in every possible way. You don't get many chances like this in life - take advantage of it. You'll remember these days a lot longer than the days flinging mortars at the ES clowns.

And don't forget to take Chloe out for a special afternoon activity (just you and her) a day or two after the new baby comes home. You have to let her know that she is still special when the new baby is going to be getting most of the attention. (Maybe you could take her to the Rat's Palace for lunch.)

Enjoy the break - the inmates will take care of things here.

Ok, it's only five weeks to the draft. Shorter time than I thought. We have, what, five picks at the moment?

1st round, 6th overall;
5th round, 133rd overall;
6th round, 164th overall;
6th round, 190th overall (from Chicago;
7th round, 197th overall.

The 5th round and later picks will slide down in the overall rankings because of compensatory picks awarded...

Per nfl.com, a lot of teams currently hold six picks. Only Indy matches our meager five picks at the moment, but theirs are 1st-3rd-4th-5th-7th, and I am guessing they'll score a bunch of compensatory picks since they've been raided in free agency.

When I look at the list like this, it really, really, REALLY makes me want to trade down in the first round and pick up a second or third rounder (or more). Our current picks might yield, what, one starter and two quality backups/ depth guys, if we're really lucky? Just thinking about likely contributions this year.

So if jm220 is correct and the Broncos really did offer the Skins #21 and a 2nd and 3rd and Al Wilson for the #6 I will repeat the comment of WTF were they thinking

Posted by: connskins | March 23, 2007 12:00 PM

JLC put that on his blog a few weeks back as a possiblity - don't know if it was confirmed. I agree with you on the WTF were they thinking. But this far from the draft it makes you think that maybe they like one of those top players alot more than they're letting on - or they think they'll get a better deal when the draft gets closer.

Mole, the line about the Texans having to change their name when they move to LA was priceless.

Though I would posit that Lakers is just as absurd a mascot in that freshwater-free, not-fit-for-human-life basin as Texans would be.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | March 23, 2007 12:11 PM

I actually like Adam Schefter - except for his comments about Monk - and in truth he was just stating reasons why Monk was not voted in....not saying that he did not vote for him.

Schefter is pretty much on target with his predictions, especially - as skinswest stated - on anything to do with Denver.

Snyder's newest profit strategy - Texas boots on all cars parked at FedEx for more than three hours. Removal fee - $150.00

Nooooooooo!!!!
Jason, you're the reason i get up every morning

Posted by: Anonymous | March 23, 2007 12:15 PM

On this page of the website

http://www.milehighreport.com/

you'll see that Schefter isn't keeping up.

They say the basic deal is this:

"The story says the Broncos offered Wilson, and the #21 pick to the Giants for DE Justin Tuck, the #20 pick and the Giants 4th Round Pick. The Giants would like the offer "toned down". Thanks to WABronco for the link!"

Posted by: skinfanman | March 23, 2007 12:18 PM

Nate -

Weren't the Lakers the Cinncinati Royals originally, or do I have that mixed up with another team? L.A. Royals would have worked better than Lakers.

My early suggestions for new names for the soon-to-be-relocated Texans -

The Salton Sea Dogs
The Anaheim Assclowns
The La Brea Pits

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 12:18 PM

Could be worse for Houston. They could've traded for Plummer. Who knows, they may still.

Posted by: skinswest | March 23, 2007 12:19 PM

Vinny:
I just got off of the Skin phone w/ Denver.
They are offering us Al Wilson, their #1, their number two, and and a number three for our pick #6 overall. What do you guys think?

Coach Joe:
Wilson would give us experience right away in the middle where we need it and he is still only 29.

Gregg Williams:
Wilson? I want London Fletcher. He knows my system inside and out from our days in Buffalo! And what do we need those draft picks for anyway? I can do it with undrafted free agents!

Coach Joe:
Yes, Gregg, I see what you mean about Fletcher. How old is Flether?

Vinny:
He is 32.

Daniel Snyder:
You guys hurry up, the signing period begins in 6 hours and I want to be the first owner to sign someone.

Vinny:
Yes, sir, Mr. Snyder.

Coach Joe:
I think we could use a couple more draft picks, but I do want to win now. I mean, how much more time do I have left?

Gregg Williams:
I've got your back, Joe. No need to worry.
Makes eye contact with Vinny and smiles.

Daniel Snyder:
Tonight I can offer Fletcher a deal he can't refuse, and then I can still keep the 6th pick and ESPN will be here on Draft Day in our Draft room... the coverage will be great for us around the country. I'll get right on those brand new London Fletcher jerseys and shipments being available in Buffalo for his fans. We need the revenue you know...
And I need to purchase a new suit for draft day coverage.

Vinny:
One for me too, sir?

Daniel Snyder:
Yes, you too, Vinny.
Now, how can we figure out how to trade next years #1 and this year's 6th overall selection so I can trade up on draft day stealing the show? Then they would be talking about the "Big News of this 2007 Draft came out of Redskin Park, where the Washington Redskins traded up to the #1 selection in the draft!!"

Someone please tell me this was merely a bad dream, please?

Posted by: Redskin Ray | March 23, 2007 12:25 PM

Trent Green is asking for big money and a starting job, so no chance he was coming to D.C.

So if Green goes to Miami, and Carr goes to the Vikings, does Culpeper go to Oakland where he is reunited with Moss? Or do the Raiders send Moss to Green Bay and draft Johnson with the #3 pick after swapping spots with Cleveland so the Browns can take Russell?

Only 36 days until the Draft.

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 12:26 PM

I belive the Kings were formerly the Royals, but I could also be mistaken as I am a die hard fan of Les Boullez.

The Texans will relocate to New Orleans after Tom Benson gets his wish and becomes the LA Saints (Talk about Oxymorons).

The Texans will become the New Orleans Pontchartrainians. Try putting that on a Helmet.

Posted by: etrod | March 23, 2007 12:29 PM

Weren't they the Minneapolis Lakers, Mole? Land of Ten Thousand Lakes and all that.

Salton Sea Dogs... genius! You're on a roll today, Mole.

Happy Friday, everybody.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | March 23, 2007 12:30 PM

I thought the Giants only had 1 pick....at #20 so how can the Broncos trade them for a 4th rounder?

Posted by: Lisa | March 23, 2007 12:32 PM

Nate -

If the Johnson-Russell-Quinn/1-2-3 scenario holds up, the only hope for trading down will be if someone wants to move up to get Peterson or Adams or Landry. It isn't looking very good at the moment to move down and get more picks. The FO will really have to be on their game with only 4 picks in the draft.

Hahahahahahahahaha! Damn, did I really say that??? Sht! Fire Vinny now - why wait?

Draft Landry at #6 and watch the Cowboys cry. That will be good enough.

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 12:33 PM

Yes, the Minneapolis Lakers moved to LA

Also the Cleveland Rams moved to LA

The Brooklyn Dodgers moved to LA

The Buffalo Braves moved to San Diego, became the Clippers and then moved to LA.

Don't let Mr. Snyder get any ideas!

Posted by: Redskin Ray | March 23, 2007 12:34 PM

How about Oakland trading for Carr and drafting CJ #1, then shipping Moss to Miami to be reunited with Culpepper in exchange for Ricky Williams and a case of Snapple?

Good luck, best to you and yours Jason.

I saw your comment about this yesterday and watched NFLN last night. The way they said it WAS confusing - they meant 1 pick in every round, not 1 pick total.

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 12:36 PM

Vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato denied reports the Redskins want to trade up for the top pick in next month's draft to take LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell. He also said the Redskins do not want to deal their first-rounders in 2007 and 2008 for Chicago Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs, who vowed never to play for the Bears again after his market value was reduced when they made him their franchise player.
"There's no merit whatsoever," Cerrato said of those rumors.
- Washington Times

Oh shti!Maybe Gibbs thinks Briggs is Wilbur Marshall.

Posted by: skinswest | March 23, 2007 12:37 PM

The Cincy Royals moved to KC
who then moved to Sacramento and became the Kings.

Something not sure what, tells me Mr. Snyder might be interested in being the owner of a team called "the Kings".

Just a guess...

Nate -

Have you seen my whips and chains?

Posted by: Jenny | March 23, 2007 12:41 PM

Sorry - was called upon to actually work for a minute there -

No, trust me - the entire city is sick of David Carr - Even the most avid defenders of Carr who firmly beleive that it is hard to throw the ball lying on your back are ready to see him go.

C'mon folks - the Texans are going nowhere near LA - they are one of the most profitable franchises in the league, even with their lovely record - and while I don't understand it, they have a loyal and rabid fan base.

The sentiment here was 50/50 between Vince Young and Reggie Bush - Even though Casserly had nothing to do with picking Mario Williams, many in the city blame him for the pick.

For the record - I much prefer to follow my Redskins through this group than listen to the blather around here about the Texans - more of a sense of humor to start with - the Texans have never won anything and people are throwing themselves off the bridge over a 5 year old team.

Posted by: John D in Houston | March 23, 2007 12:43 PM

Nate -

Okay, I looked it up.

Yes, the Lakers were the Minneapolis Lakers originally.

The Cinncinati Royals eventually became the Sacramento Kings.

*Special note to etrod - the ultimate oxymoron would be for the Cinncinati Bengals to move to La and become the LA Saints (or Angels or Cherubim)

Anybody else watch NFL Network lat night on the 82 Skins?

Theismann, Mosley, Riggins. All Redskins greats with NFL Championship rings.
Gibbs wanted to get rid of these guys when he became head coach. And he wanted to make Jacoby a defensive lineman.

Just another piece of evidence that Gibbs should have absolutely NOTHING to do with personnel.

I still think Gibbs is the greatest or 2nd greatest head coach of all time (after Lombardi), but I don't think the Redskins would have been the co-team of the 80s if Gibbs had his way with the personnel.

Sadly, it's just another bad sign for Gibbs v2.4

Posted by: Diesel | March 23, 2007 12:47 PM

Diesel- Agreed on Gibbs re: him as the personel deciderer and top 2 or 3 coach of all time. However, with Riggo, Gibbs went to Kansas to get him to come back from his one year "retirement" before '81. And with Jacoby, the old story is Gibbs took one look at him and thought he was a defensive lineman because he was so huge.

Posted by: 4-12 | March 23, 2007 12:52 PM

That said, he was at his best with Bobby Beathard as general manager.

Posted by: 4-12 | March 23, 2007 12:55 PM

Diesel, that was great stuff last night. Aside from the fact that you had to endure Joey T's commentary.

My favorite part was listening to Theasman describe how Russ Grimm basically took over the huddle, and demanded to repeatedly run 50 GUT, right at Randy White. Vintage Riggo and the Hogs putting the smack down on the Cowpies, winning the NFC, and going to the Super Bowl.

In the winning locker room, Doc Walker looked about 25, and the first guy that stood out, to me...........Bobby Bethard. Man, only if.

Posted by: k Squared | March 23, 2007 12:56 PM

Yeah, I watched the 1982 Redskins on NFLN last night also. It made me wonder why Snyder doesn't pick up the damn phone and call Bobby Beathard and offer him his old job back.

Beathard drafted most of the Hogs, Manley, Mann, D. Green, and many more keepers.

Gibbs drafted Desmond Howard.

Casserly drafted Michael Westbrook.

Marty drafted Gardner, Rod.

Vinny drafted Gibran Hamdan.

Any questions?

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 12:57 PM

I like this change in the atmosphere here. Tired of denigrating the skins? Pick on the Texans! Hey the Raiders, Lions, Browns, Buccaneers (oh man they beat us last year), and the Cardinals should be fair game as well.

Posted by: skinswest | March 23, 2007 1:01 PM

Yeah, running 50-gut right down Randy's throat 10 plays in a row was my fav part too.
To me, that was the greatest Redskins game in franchise history.

Posted by: Diesel | March 23, 2007 1:01 PM

I think the reason Gibbs went to Kansas to try and re-up Riggins was because Mr. Cooke instructed him to do so. I remember hearing something about that little venture after Mr. Cooke died.

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 1:04 PM

When you get really depressed about the Redskins, go read the blogs on the Detroit Lions. Even Vinny looks brilliant when compared to Millen. (Last thing I read from up there - they are thinking of nominating Millen for a Nobel Prize if he can successfully manage to trade down from #2 and grab an extra pick or two in the draft.)

Posted by: John D in Houston | March 23, 2007 1:12 PM

Will Al Gore take credit for that?

Posted by: connskins | March 23, 2007 1:15 PM

FYI...the best sign of how dysfunctional the management team with the Redskins is would have to be: a guy that Vinny, Gibbs and Snyder think is worthy of the BIGGEST contract ever for a safey...is seen as being worth a 6th round pick by the rest of the league. Get the house in order: Gibbs, either be president or a real head coach; Snyder, study why The Jack was so succesful; and Vinny, time to release the guy that single-handidly destroyed the 49ers (does anyone ever wonder why when Carmen Policy, Dwight Clark, et al left the 49ers to take over the Browns...the only person they didn't bring with them was Vinny?).

Posted by: Doug/Baltimore | March 23, 2007 1:16 PM

The other humorous NFL city for blog of the month is Buffalo. They are trying to justify (or maybe understand?) how their defense will be better this year after losing their two best defensive players in free agency (Clements and Fletcher), as well as how they will soon have the best running game in the NFL, thanks to McGahee leaving and Dockery arriving.

It must be great to be a Buffalo Bills fan. When Ralph Wilson (owner) and Marv Levy (GM/VP/whatever) talk about the old days, they are usually referring to the 19th century.

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 1:18 PM

Poll Question? Which NFL commentator deserves the award for Mr. "anti-Redskin". All this talk about GM's, bad offseason moves, etc. is making me cringe just thinking about next season when Bill Maas calls a Redskins game. I hate that guy...

Posted by: CC | March 23, 2007 1:27 PM

Hmm, let's see - are we talking the past or the future, Doug? Sean Taylor was projected as a top 5 pick before the 2004 draft. LaRon Landry is projected as a top 10 (at worst, and still rising) pick in the 2007 draft. It's generally rare that safeties are considered as high 1st round picks. In the case of Taylor and Landry, both are/were.

In case you hadn't noticed, the salary cap has gone up somewhat dramatically in the past two years. It's a good bet that every top 10 draft pick contract in 2007 will be a record of one type or another. Between high draft pick contracts and the recent UFA signings, there will be lots of salary confusion and dissension in the NFL for the next year or two. In Baltimore, it is why Adalius Thomas left and why Ed Reed is probably now underpaid.

Otherwise, there is no argument with you on the Redskins FO - Snyder should hire a real GM and then get out of the way except to sign checks, Gibbs should do nothing but coach, and Vinny should just go away.

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 1:32 PM

What, you actually listen to the TV commentary watching Skins games, CC? Masochist!

Of course, now that Larry bumped Frank off the radio broadcasts, I'm not doing much better....

Posted by: CC | March 23, 2007 1:37 PM

P.S. Oh, and if you were referring to Archulemon - well, who knows what the F they were thinking. I sure don't. Someone should be held accountable for that boondoggle. (G. Williams, maybe?)

I still can't figure out why Chicago signed him and gave up a 6th round pick for him either, after the fact. But Lovie likes Rex Grossman too, so who knows. Maybe we can set up a regular trading program with the Bears.

Posted by: The Mole | March 23, 2007 1:37 PM

If memory serves correctly,
Jacoby was already a DL.

He was not great, went undrafted and the Skins actually changed him to an OL, the rest is history and three Super Bowl rings.

Posted by: Redskin Ray | March 23, 2007 1:42 PM

CC,

You can pick up the radio broadcast of the games from a link on the skins web site. The games are not always on the local cable where I live, so I listen and "watch" on the internets.

Posted by: Mark (in 21132) | March 23, 2007 1:42 PM

All NFL commentators are suspect. Walsh won every Super Bowl in the 80s, didn't he? And Shanahan and Johnson won them all in the 90s, right? And now Bellhop in the 00s? Ugh.

The sports media bias sucks. La Canfora's idea about customized NFL commentary sounds better all the time.

Danny doesn't make you pay for the internet link?

Posted by: John D in Houston | March 23, 2007 1:46 PM

I mean really, why the need to break up Frank,Sonny and Sam?

When it became time, they could have gotten rid of all three.

As it is, they had been doing it together for years, loved working together, and now, when I hear Sonny and Sam, what do I do? I think of Frank.

Posted by: Redskin Ray | March 23, 2007 1:48 PM

Joe did go to Kansas to talk Riggo back from retirement. He had Chuck Muncie in San Diego and knew how important it was to have a big back for short yardage and also play action deep.

You recall that first season, Joey T was throwing deep quite often as they lost high scoring games, once that young line of May, Grimm, Jacoby started improving, the game plan changed and so did the Skins.
0-5 start but finished 8-8!

So, I'm always able to view the Redksin games whether the Ravens are in town or not but I can't pick up any of the Redskin radio stations (clear that is). And I'm not about to give up watching the game on the flat screen for Sonny and company on the net.

Why does everyone think we should ahve traded our #1 to Denver??? Because of salary cap, the trade is essentially al wilson, denvers 1,2,3 for our 1 and LFB. If wilson is being shopped so hard, there must be a reason, he isn't that much younger than LFB, and wilson is a speed player, so probably won't age as well as LFB.

We can still make a similar trade giving our 1 for late 1,2,3, with some team im sure, but why? I'd rather have 1 stud DL than 3 guys who might be good, do we really trust the FO with those 3 picks, we are much safer where we sit right now. It looks like Carriker might not even be there at #21, so we'd be losing a lot of talent on DL with that trade. I only want to trade back a few spots, long as we get Addams, Anderson, Branch, or Okoye

Anyone else ever have any problems over there?

Archuleta speaks:

"I don't regret signing with the Redskins. The communication between me and certain members of the coaching staff was pretty nonexistent for the last few months of the season. (Editor's note: The defensive coaches don't talk to you if you aren't a member of the defense anymore.) I could air a whole bunch of different laundry. There's a lot more going on there than people understand."
"I sensed things were kind of strange, really not what they seemed towards the end of training camp. I didn't see it coming. It kind of snowballed into kind of a mess. I won't pretend I went there and lit it up. (Editor's note: Well, duh.) When you look at the performance of the team and the defense and you look at individual performances, I don't think mine was really out of line. (Editor's note: Surely you jest, Adam?) In a certain sense, I hit rock-bottom, so I learned a lot about myself. I think I'm better as a person and better as a football player because of it. This move is best for the Bears, best for the Redskins and best for me."
"I don't think there are many safeties who can do what I do underneath. (Editor's note: Underneath what? The blankets?) People like to say I can't cover. I don't believe it. I don't have a lot of interceptions, [but] I don't get beat a lot, [and] rarely was I out of position until last season.
"I'm looking forward to the fans of Washington actually seeing what I'm capable of doing and what I could have been doing in a Redskins uniform." (Editor's note: Thanks, Adam, but No, Thanks - we've seen enough.)

couple quick stories

Gibbs goes out to meet with Riggo ( who had retired the year before) they meet in the morning at Riggo's house. John beer in hand greets Joe. Joe Says (to himself) i'm going to get this guy to comeback and then I'm going to trade him. They talk for awhile and gibbs does his best to convince john just how much the skins need him back, Riggo say ok I'll come back on one comndition. Gibbs ok what do you want Riggo " a no-trade Clause"

Jacoby was never an d-lineman. story is a redskin scout was at a game scouting some kids from the team jacoby's was playing and joe stood out he moved really well and had a real nasty streak, but was kinda rangy. so the scout talks to Joe after the game and says you have some ability but you need to develope(lift) if you work hard we might sign you as a FA (undrafted). well joe took the advice and next time the scout saw him he blocked out the sun.

Based on what newly acquired safety Adam Archuleta has been told by the Bears, he has been given Mike Brown's job. Which means that Brown, a Pro Bowler in 2005, will either be cut or moved back to free safety.

Yeah, we all say that because you DON'T cover. And as far as being not being out of position, its only the WRs that ran free on you that agree with you! As a friend oft spoke, "There are some who drink freely from the punch bowl of delusion. Then, there are those who gargle...."

1) I believe the Houston Texans' fans should be permitted to bring a class action suit against the franchise for negligence and suffering. Passing on Reggie Bush for Mike Mamula v 2.0 is the most indefensible act in the history of organized sport. (At least not coming away with VY...)

2) I'm not going to say anything else bad about my least favorite non cowboy/eagle/giant football player ever...after this. No member of any secondary in the colorful history of the league has ever been worse at covering offensive players. If I didn't hate him so much, I'd find those comments laughable. But I do, so I don't.

In the words of Dean Pritchard from Old School: "Don't turn around!"

Never ever look back here. Keep my name out of your lying mouth. You lied to me and every little Redskin fan who had hope. You robbed us blind (I know, we gave it to him but I'm ranting here) and sold us out to a sleezy reporter for an expose that ripped our team in two. And you wonder why people doubt you?

I don't want us on your mind. Why are we on your mind? The fans of Washington don't want to see what you can do because we saw what you did you lying punk. Go away forever and get beat by receivers, tight ends, and running backs, some fans, the ball boys, the annoying ushers that won't let you go to lower seats that are vacant, the sideline reports and several trainers.

They are going to 'put you in a position to make plays'. Translation? You have a limited skill set and need the exact right set of circumstances to do anything constructive on a football field. If you have plenty of talent around you, you'll do fine. Remember that. Remember you have never made anyone better. Remember that you are a liablity that has to be covered for. Remember that you couldn't even protect the punter. You plumber. You D1 chooch. That's your legacy: The worst signing ever in a series of bad signings. You're the benchmark.

'I had a lot of bad dates, but this psycho 3 toed tree sloth with gingivitis, warts, and a ridonkulous FUPA named AA was really the worst.'

I'm done.

The great thing about the Washington Post, clicking on a headline about David Patten being released and ending up getting the article about the Adam Archuleta trade.

AMTTS- I think you were holding back on us. Try it again, this time with feeling. lol

What is the Chinese internet link? I need to find something better than sneaking out and saying I'm going grocery shopping and really heading over to a sports bar to watch the final quarter of the Redskin's games. I almost got in trouble when the Saints game went into overtime (great game) and I also drank like seven beers.

Posted by: nyskinsfan | March 23, 2007 3:46 PM

AMTTS, wow. And wow. Let's hope that is the final word on the subject. Yeah, it was already on the ropes, but you pummelled it to death, and in fine style.

connskins, no idea what that Portland story was on GMA. I didn't hear anything about a bird on a roof. I know the Leonard Cohen song 'Bird on a Wire' and the musical 'Fiddler on the Roof.' Yes, I do.

Happy weekend, everybody.

Thinking about the Broncos. They want to trade Wilson to free up cap space. If the Skins want to free up cap space the renegotiate the contract which often means an extension. But the Broncos don't like to redo contracts. Their problem with Portis was that he had two years left on his contract, and they had a team policy of not redoing contracts, at least not while there were two years left. And they don't want to give Bly a new deal and Bly only has one year left on his contract, and in Bly's case a new contract might even save them cape space in the first couple of years. Do they want to trade Wilson, when it comes down to it, because their team policy won't let them restructure or extend his contract? And who do they have, or will get, to replace him?

Posted by: skinfanman | March 23, 2007 3:50 PM

hmmm, since AA in his arch31.com website didn't have any pictures of himself in a Skins uniform posted on his website, (did he pull them sometime during the season????) I wonder when he's going to put up a picture of himself in a Bears uniform. And how soon will he remove all references to him as a Redskin?

To the answer to these and other Archileta questions......don't look here!!

Posted by: charlie | March 23, 2007 3:50 PM

JLaC and his Followers -

Carr and Dominick Davis got cut FLAT OUT. No trade or anything. No Cap relief. Nothing. We are talking about the #1 pick in the 2002 draft here.

The Arch Deluxe sandwich can't compare to their 'King' of problems down there.

So much for that 'The other 31 teams blah blah blah' take. And we didn't have the chance to draft Vince Young or Reggie Bush like they did.

Remember - People talk in reporter's ears to get them to listen to 'their' side of the story. Try to make you take a side or a certain angle of the story. JLaC is getting caught up in the web that is known as Redskins Park....

Posted by: Skins Fan/Former Blogger | March 23, 2007 4:08 PM

Thanks Houston. I'm feeling a whole lot better about the skins now.

"I could air a whole bunch of different laundry. There's a lot more going on there than people understand."
"I sensed things were kind of strange, really not what they seemed towards the end of training camp. I didn't see it coming. It kind of snowballed into kind of a mess."

Why do former Skins (Champ/Pierce/LaVar/Harris/ and now Archuletta) ALWAYS say something like this... like there is something sinister and super secret going on behind the walls of Redskins Park? The first few guys to say it, I thought 'sour grapes'... but now I'm starting to wonder if maybe, just maybe, they are manufacturing WMDs over in Ashburn.

Posted by: Diesel | March 23, 2007 4:30 PM

Did you know to recieve over the air HD channels, you just need to hook up a plain old school antenna and just watch over the air??

Fox 5 - 5-1
WRC 4 - 4-1
WRC 4 Weather - 4-2
WJLA - 7-1
WJLA Weather - 7-2
WUSA - 9-1
My20 - 20-1 (I think)
CW - 50-1
TNT - 127-5

There are also some WETA chanels spattered through out. You just need to search for them.

Posted by: Quasi HD Expert | March 23, 2007 4:31 PM

In my area I can pick up Bmore Channels as well. They are mostly in the $100s.

If you spend $50+ on an antenna, you can prob get better range on the signal.

So I'm starting to get Redskin Ray's point about maybe waiting too long to pull the trigger on a trade down. Not that I particularly liked any of the rumored trades I heard -- look, any potential trade involving the Donkeys makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit -- but I felt that the FO's strategy was to get closer to the draft date and hope the value of that #6 pick rose or at least didn't drop in trade value.

Now I'm not so sure it was better to wait on a trade, since so many moves have happened and maybe, for example, nobody will be jumping up for "Not Tom" Brady Quinn.

But I know we're not going to know anything for sure about the draft until draft day.

Well, we know that if LaRon Landry goes to any team but the Skins, AMTTS' screams will be heard from here to Oxnard.

Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reports that police are expected to release videotape of the Las Vegas fight between Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter and Bengals left tackle Levi Jones. The video could corroborate reports that Jones was attacked by as many as seven men.

Hobson also reports that two chains taken from Jones during the incident were anonymously returned to the Palms Casino.

Porter was charged with misdemeanor battery. No charges were filed against Jones.

I used to visit ExtremeSkins from time to time (mostly before the RI Blog) and still do on occasion.

Those comments about ES being all Pro Skins is NOT true. In fact, that is one reason why I stepped away. They have a lot of very young (16 -20 year olds) bloggers. During the Dallas game, one young blogger said he wished Brunell would DIE! Now you guys really beat Brunell up but I don't remember any of you wishing death upon him (well, at least you did not WRITE that). Another blogger on ES was a Vince Young fan as well as a Skins fan. He actually wrote that he hoped the Titans would beat us because Vince Young needed a win...and asked the other bloggers if they were cool with that. Man, was that a stupid remark. They lit him on fire - and deservedly so. And then, Vince Young did beat us!

How come the same people who want to send Joe Gibbs back to NASCAR think Bobby Beathard should come back to the Skins?

Posted by: wondering | March 23, 2007 7:35 PM

Bobby Beathard was good when he was here but he didn't walk on water. Remember Tory Nixon 2nd pick in 85 and Brian Davis 2nd pick in 87.

Posted by: Throwback | March 23, 2007 7:56 PM

Nonon, seriously, answer me something because I rack my brain trying to figure the logic. I have noticed your name come up for at least a few days now, usually saying something negative about the blog or J La. Now me, let's take American Idol for example. I watched an episode the 2nd season, thought it was horrible. I tried again the 3rd season, one episode, off in five minutes, and have not watched it since. I don't continue to watch week after week and say how stupid people are that watch it, which is essentially what you are doing. If other papers and other sites are so much better, why have you been here for, as far as I've seen, the past TWO OR THREE DAYS. And not just here, but posting on how bad it is. To me, it's one of two things. Either you're just plain stupid or you're a Cowboys fan. Oh wait, sorry, those two go together. Either you're stupid, or deep down inside you really love this blog, and as much as you want to hate it, it's like an infection, it just continues to grow. Please help me understand.

Posted by: Anonymous | March 23, 2007 8:01 PM

"Bobby Beathard was good when he was here but he didn't walk on water."

That may be true, but after the debacle that has been the past decade, a "good" GM is a major improvement, at least to me.

Nonon is probably a screen name for AD.

Posted by: Anonymous | March 23, 2007 8:18 PM

At least AD was smart enough to want to leave after not liking his stint in DC. Nonon reminds me of that idiot Manny Ramirez. He demands a trade EVERY offseason, saying he won't play another game for Boston. But every spring, guess who shows up?

Posted by: RobInVaBeach | March 23, 2007 8:33 PM

am i the only one who is fed up with ES mods. If you say one bad thing about the team, like having 1 division title in 14 years, they go nuts and say the redskins have made tons of great decisions and only a few poor ones.

Any one have a theory on why they are so homer blind?

Posted by: skinsn24 | March 23, 2007 8:54 PM

Nonon's Mom: "Dinner's ready...did you clean your room yet? No dessert until you do"

Posted by: RobInVaBeach | March 23, 2007 9:17 PM

Before I say this, I too realize the FO has been dreadful at best. But honestly this FA period it seems we are getting things right. Not over spending for a guard. Bringing back a much better corner than Wright and Rumph AND passing on the Denver trade (wilson #21 and a second rd) Wilson failed his phyiscal - How pissed would we have all been if we got Wilson and before he would have played a down he would have been on IR. Turning the corner baby, turning the corner.

Posted by: jm220 | March 23, 2007 9:56 PM

I agree Hail, this offseason has been done the right way, at least so far. From not overpaying Dockery, to signing a player based on more than numbers or potential(Fletcher), and taking out the trash(the safety of which we do not speak), the Redskins have taken steps in improving the team. BUT, there is still plenty of time left in the offseason, so I am knocking on my desk here at work(I think it's wood) and hoping they continue this trend.

Posted by: RobInVaBeach | March 23, 2007 9:57 PM

There is a poster on the ES site named Pittman4Two, who is a Tampa Bay fan that comes to visit there every so often, saying encouraging things about the Skins (along the lines of good luck, but making completely and ludicrously (and obviously intentional) wrong factual errors (for effect), mixed metaphors, and humorous non-sequitur. I love when this guy posts. He hangs around and participates in the thread for a while, then he's gone for a while. Always just joshing, good fun, my team will beat your team on the griddle, that type of thing.

Well over half (like 75%) of the responses are these hostile, juvenile, attacks on Pittman4Two. On ES, you can include your "picture" as part of your signature, plus your age is in there, etc. ES posters rip on P42 for his looks, other personal stuff. Call him a moron. The level of conversation about the Skins on the site generally is about at that level. Occasionally there are a few posters who have something interesting to add to the conversation. I say there are about 20-25 people with anything interesting, relevant, or new. The rest is complete drivel. Takes forever to get through a post. The best stuff usually is in the starter (what J-La would call a guest blog), with maybe 1-2 thoughts added before the thread is over.

Life is short, but not too short for the info, humor, and usual goodwill I find here. Its too short for ES on my clock. I do still check in to ES when I'm trying to get a bigger picture on something new going on Skins-wise, but the site has this incentive system that encourages crap posting and throat clearing. The more posts you add, the more your post number increases, which means over time the little picture associated with your name gets upgraded. It's tiresome. Still, if I've had a football strategy questions (Xs and Os), its a good place to get pointed in the right direction. The cooch factor, however, is extraordinarily high. Also, it is by no means a Kool-Aid site. There are drinkers (they call them homers), but there are just as many cynical disgruntled fans who hate. The "blog wars" we've seen here are common place there. Also tiresome. My thoughts on that whole dispute (hard-core blind optimists vs. cynics living in the past) gets summed up and resolved for me by our own John from Herdon ... "Redskins, why do you break my heart?" Nuff said. Let's talk football.

Being a life lonfg Skins fan (Iam 38) I watched "America's Game" on the NFL Network, about the '82 season. I had no idea the the "Fun Bunch" was to honor Monk becuase he had gotten hurt and couldn't play in the playoffs.

It also reminded me, the things that were/are important to Gibbs. He brought in players, who HE though could help the team, former players, players that were cast offs etc... This is just his way. I REALLY feel good about things going in the right direction. I miss the RFK days.

"The Redskins also would be wise to add a developmental quarterback, in the event that they conclude that Jason Campbell isn't the long-term answer at the position. (Our guess is that they already have.)"

WTF?

"Coverage? C'mon, it's just coverage.... I mean, it's not like being up at the line, it's just coverage. You know? Just coverage... I mean, coverage? C'mon. Coverage?

Posted by: cload and daggar | March 23, 2007 10:52 PM

cload, that's not that shocking of a statement. they're just reading al saunders lips. either he's a bad lier or can't hide his true feelings.

i know it's easy for us skins fans to ignore the white elepant in the room. but the facts are facts. skins have TWO offensive coordinators, both of whom like to call plays. and they both have egos the size of...and THAT is the least of their problems.

is it just me or the skins personnel department has actually gotten worse with gibbs?

at least skins always had our lovable draft picks! eventhough we didn't have good people chosing...but there was always that hope that even a blind squirl...

and not to forget that al saunders didn't pick jason. just like joe gibbs didn't pick ramsey.

and another fact not to be dismissed as just "loyalty" is that no player EVER not ONE ever blamed mark brunell. and they weren't all that happy to have jason in there.

i saw what i saw and we all have opinions. unfortunately.

Hey J-La - best of luck with the new arrival and time off. I'd say have a restful time but well not much of that. Take care of Lauren and Chloe and NBTBNL whom I'm sure we'll put our collective IQ of 4 together and come up with a fantastic nickname. : )

Needless to say we'll all be here when you get back and defending your honor. I imagine we'll be deep into disucssing the thread count in the uniforms by the time draft day rolls around.

Hey if you hear anymore from our guy in Afghanistan that'd be an excellent post.

God bless and good luck and see ya in April.

I have 5 out of Elite 8 teams right and yet my bracket is still in tatters.

I'm in tatters ah shadooweh I'm in shatters. . . .

As may be clear from the fact that I'm posting at this hour on a Friday night I do not in fact have a hot date.
