It is with awe and great joy that I report that we have topped 50,000!!!!!
Actually, this deserves a few more: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cyn City, what are we to do with our lives now?

Posted by: Skinny | April 28, 2007 8:50 AM

4th! Excellent - another life goal reached!

Posted by: John D in Houston | April 28, 2007 8:54 AM

Do we all get Dan Snyder antenna balls?

Posted by: John D in Houston | April 28, 2007 8:55 AM

never had a doubt... now I have to mow the lawn before the draft starts and it looks like I am going to be on the road when we pick :(

Posted by: Inigo Montoya | April 28, 2007 8:59 AM

Skinny - It's tough isn't it, I guess there is this draft thingy in a few hours hahaha

Posted by: kost52 | April 28, 2007 8:59 AM

Given the zeal with which you attacked this quest, I kinda regret not making it a little more serious...say, ending famine or war or genocide or global warming. Still, baby steps, right?
I do agree with MV Dame, I think it was (so MANY posts!), who said we were probably 500 short of the goal in reality, given the posts that were frivolous and made simply to increase the count. Nonetheless, it's "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" and on to the next quest.
I think 100k by the first day of training camp would be tough, but who am I to say? You guys are the typists. What should the next quest be?
Oh, and here's your draft day update: Jason is heading out to the park and will supply a new thread when he arrives. Mark is on a train to NYC. I got back from NYC late last night. It was a busy two days, but very helpful. Thanks for participating in the informal poll on taking the draft on the road. I'll pass the link along to the NFL.

So my plan was to watch the Cricket World Cup Final until the Draft, and wouldn't you know it, it's raining.

Posted by: kost52 | April 28, 2007 9:09 AM

50,101!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BA-ZING! Man, I figured this would go right down to the wire. Props to FO for holding out on Briggs- now, trade down baby!

Posted by: D7 | April 28, 2007 9:13 AM

Also gotta give props to the nightshift crew from Thrs night- on fire. You guys kept me hours behind trying to catch up yesterday: Muga, Paps and Sheriff (and later the eloquent ocho^2- aka James Joyce). Nice work. As a LONG time reader who just started posting in the last month or 2, I'm in awe. My life is complete now.

Posted by: D7 | April 28, 2007 9:20 AM

I'd like to thank Sean Taylor as he makes all things possible...

Posted by: etrod | April 28, 2007 9:36 AM

This is what I like to hear - Gibbs on Tuesday said the likelihood of completing the long-rumored trade for disgruntled Chicago Bears Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs was "one in a hundred." Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said he wouldn't make the deal, in part to spite its orchestrator, agent Drew Rosenhaus

Posted by: kost52 | April 28, 2007 9:40 AM

THAT'S THE WAY TO START DRAFT SATURDAY.

Lets hope for good news all day long!

HAIL!

Posted by: Go Skins Go | April 28, 2007 9:41 AM

If the Bears deal happens it probably won't happen until the Cards make their pick and the Skins are on the clock. The the Bears' GM can maintain they were only willing to make the trade because the guy they wanted was there at 6. This way the Bears save face. The deal might have already gone down if Rosenhaus hadn't tried to do the deal in the media.

Posted by: skinfanman | April 28, 2007 9:45 AM

Furthermore, Angelo should make the deal and unload Briggs. PA doesn't want to mess with Rosenhaus. Look how the Eagles got burned - it cost them a season.

Posted by: skinfanman | April 28, 2007 9:49 AM

Hopes for today:
1) Trade down and get as many picks as possible. No Lance Briggs.
2) Draft some DL and a G that can start the next 10 years for us.
3) Philly, NY and Dal all draft busts.
4) Brady Quinn becomes the next Aaron Rodgers. Has to sit in the green room for 6 hours with cameras rolling taking the smug self promoting out of him.

Posted by: cdubb | April 28, 2007 9:53 AM

Yeah!! 50k!! Good work bloggy peeps. I'll check back after the draft and see the carnage...

Posted by: Steve | April 28, 2007 10:04 AM

ESPN reporting Oakland is committing to J. Russell.

Posted by: D7 | April 28, 2007 10:24 AM

We hit 50K before the deadline. Hooray. Whats next 75K before June cuts?

Lance Briggs is still in Chicago, Skins still have 6 pick.

After tomorrow, ESPN can put Mel Kiper back in his box.

What a Beautiful Morning!

Hail!

i cant wait for the draft

Posted by: kk | April 28, 2007 10:39 AM

Draft day is finally here! Loving it. Real news, and hopefully GOOD news, coming soon.

Cindy, definitely want to hear how it was with the commishes.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | April 28, 2007 10:47 AM

While I have not been a frequent contributor towards the 50,000 goal, I have been an avid and fiendish reader of much of it. To all those "regulars" whose interesting and entertaining thoughts made the 50K possible, CHEERS!
To me, it appears the Skins have held onto the ball thus far in the off-season. An optimal situation would be to still get Okoye and pick up a 2nd rounder from atlanta or minny...shocker I know. Getting Landry would be sexy as hell, but as many of you have pointed out, the pairing with our beloved Reaper could either be a total bust OR the most brutal duo of safeties the game has ever seen. It might be worth it to try it. The other teams we play would be down 2-3 receivers (due to bone crushing mayhem) by the 4th qtr in every game!
Alas, the friend I'm visiting in richmond has no TV, so I will be checking back feverishly for any draft news. Does anyone know what time it starts?

Posted by: Uncle Heyron | April 28, 2007 10:58 AM

The draft starts at noon so we should know the Skins plans by 1:15-1:30. And the pre-game ESPN show is doing nothing but making me even more antsy...

Posted by: [cc] | April 28, 2007 11:11 AM

Welcome, Uncle Heyron. And props for having a friend with no TV...and for sacrificing to visit him/her on Draft Day, which should be a national holiday.
The return of HaikuMan is icing on the cake that is Draft Day.

Posted by: Cindy | April 28, 2007 11:14 AM

I'm struggling guys, I know there's only 45 minutes to go, but I'm tired, the only thing keeping me awake are re-runs of The Man Show.

Posted by: kost52 | April 28, 2007 11:18 AM

still dont understand it - glad to be a part of it

why am i working today?

Posted by: pack4life | April 28, 2007 11:24 AM

Christmas in April baby! I want some shiny new players! You kids ready for this?

Okay I think I've had enough coffee. I'm totally Jack Russelling over this draft. Time to switch to beer.

Posted by: SMACK | April 28, 2007 11:28 AM

Well I hope the Skins trade down with Miami, and we pick up J.Anderson. But think we'll take Okoye.

SMACK- Being a Cowboys fan, who do you think we'll take? Who do you think Dallas will take? Who do you want Dallas to take?

The meetings with the commissioners are an annual event for sports editors in NYC and I'm lucky to get to go each year. Typically, there's a little news, but mostly it's a chance for us and for them to air our concerns about coverage and the larger issues.
I'm guessing that you're most interested in my impressions of Roger Goodell...since this isn't the Nationals blog.
Obviously, he's been in the NFL for a looong time and media types have known him for years and have dealt with him frequently.
Being elected commissioner was the natural move for him; he is more than qualified for the job.
One of the editors opened by mentioning that this was our first meeting with him as commish and he said that the draft would be his last "first" and he was pretty happy to get that behind him.
You don't get that job without being supersmart and without knowing how to make $ for the guys who hired you. But he's also very personable, probably a little less formal and more relaxed and accessible than Paul Tagliabue was. He wears the job quite naturally.
He embraces innovation and I'd be surprised if some significant, but not immediate, changes aren't coming. I'm not sure even he knows yet what those may be, but I do think he'll be a dynamic leader.
He's also smart enough to understand what's at stake for him: that taking over a company that is thriving and taking it to another level may be the toughest job of all. No one wants to wreck Dad's car after he hands you the keys.

Redskins draft Laron Landry with 6th pick.

Now we will have two safeties running around out of position.
