Ok, What I don't like is the freakin early monday nighter!
Also, an early bye week..........
Posted by: Extreme | April 11, 2007 1:12 PM
3 nationally televised games! i'm shocked and excited. Tricky putting Dallas as the last game, should be good.
Posted by: Denesh | April 11, 2007 1:12 PM
So when do we see Brady Quinn or Brunell? Week five?
Posted by: Cerrato's draft chart | April 11, 2007 1:12 PM
F*ck Dallas!
Posted by: Big Murf | April 11, 2007 1:14 PM
Guys - I like our schedule overall. Its evened out pretty much.
The worst thing I hate is that Thursday nighter against Chicago. That's a short turn around.....
Posted by: Extreme | April 11, 2007 1:15 PM
Yes it is a short turn-around, but at least the 2 games are at home. If 1 was on the road, you could chalk up an 'L' for at least 1 of the games.
Posted by: Big Murf | April 11, 2007 1:16 PM
I see an 11-5 record this year as a realist....
As a fan - 16-0
Posted by: ExtremeSkins | April 11, 2007 1:19 PM
Nice to see no West Coast games. That should help.
Posted by: zap | April 11, 2007 1:20 PM
I say 10-6
Posted by: Denesh | April 11, 2007 1:20 PM
I'm glad we play New England kind of early in the season. They're already a solid team but I think they're even tougher down the stretch...
Posted by: Chris | April 11, 2007 1:24 PM
ESPN ranks our schedule 18th at .500, with even wins and losses in 2006 for our opponents. Raiders and Bills tied for first, and Cardinals last.

Finally Some Redskins News!!!
(WIN) Sept. 9... Miami... 1 p.m.
(LOSS)Sept. 17 (Monday)... at Philadelphia... 8:30
(WIN) Sept. 23... Giants... 4:15
Sept. 30... Bye
(WIN) Oct. 7... Detroit... 1
(LOSS) Oct. 14... at Green Bay... 1
(WIN) Oct. 21... Arizona... 1
(LOSS) Oct. 28... at New England... 4:15
(LOSS) Nov. 4... at New York Jets... 1
(WIN) Nov. 11... Philadelphia... 1
(LOSS) Nov. 18... at Dallas... 1
(LOSS) Nov. 25... at Tampa Bay... 1
(WIN) Dec. 2... Buffalo... 1
(LOSS) Dec. 6 (Thursday)... Chicago... 8:15
(LOSS) Dec. 16... at New York Giants... 8:15
(WIN) Dec. 23... at Minnesota... 1
(WIN) Dec. 30... Dallas... 1
Hmm, My initial feeling is 8-8 unless we beat Tampa Bay and Jets (possibly beat an NFC east team on the road).
I think it is a rough schedule!
Posted by: JoeyV | April 11, 2007 1:27 PM
Last time we had an early bye, playoffs were involved. Also my wife was pregnant and due during the football season last time the Skins were in the playoffs... you guessed it we are expecting Sept. 26th... which is perfect b/c of the bye week!!!!
Posted by: Inigo Montoya | April 11, 2007 1:28 PM
5 of the first 6 look like wins to me.. then the going gets tough.. only 1 out of the next 6 are w's.. then 3 out of the last 5... i have them 9-7...
Posted by: vpar | April 11, 2007 1:29 PM
The worst part is the early bye week. The stretch of games after that (Detroit, GB, Arizona) sound like calesthenics. New England is the first test. Would have been good to have them a few weeks earlier. Chicago does seem like the knottiest point of the season, esp. on a Thursday ... good thing its after Buffalo. [Bills now have a line, just no RB to run through it ... also, by subtracting Fletcher, Samuels, and Spikes, I don't think they will be who they think they are.] The only upside of a Thursday night game is that it gives a few more days to prep for the trip back to the Meadowlands. Also good that the first time we meet Philly is early in the season with an extra day to prep.
Posted by: dcsween | April 11, 2007 1:30 PM
Oct. 28... at New England... 4:15
Nov. 4... at New York Jets... 1
Nov. 11... Philadelphia... 1
Nov. 18... at Dallas... 1
Nov. 25... at Tampa Bay... 1
Don't like that 5 game stretch of the schedule. 4 out of 5 games away including games at Dallas and New England. 2-3 would be okay and 3-2 through that stretch would be good.
Posted by: Mike | April 11, 2007 1:30 PM
I saw 6-10 or 7-9 at the most. No way are we making the playoffs again this year with that schedule.

Philadelphia vs. Dallas (at Eagles Nov. 4, at Cowboys Dec. 16): Until Joe Gibbs proves he has turned the Redskins around, this is as close to being the best divisional matchup in the less-dramatic NFC. Although the series lost some of its luster with the retirement of Bill Parcells, it still features Terrell Owens going against the Eagles team he betrayed. Owens is coming off major finger surgery, but he's still a major irritant to Donovan McNabb, Andy Reid and many of the Eagles he left behind. The Eagles, who have been the class of the competitive NFC East since the start of millennium, regained the edge on the Cowboys with last year's sweep. The key for the Eagles is keeping McNabb healthy the entire season, although it had to rile the Cowboys losing the division to an Eagles team led by Jeff Garcia.
Ouch
Posted by: Inigo Montoya | April 11, 2007 1:31 PM
OK, here we go. Every fan will do his / her WIN / LOSS analysis. Reality is, who knows? Each year some "good" teams ending up sucking, other "bad" team step up.
For what it's worth:
1) Looks like 7-9 or 8-8 to me
2) Brutal stretch in the middle:
@patriots, @jets, philly, @cowgirls, @bucs
3) I hope that last home game against Dallas has some meaning, otherwise, we are set up for a sweep by the cowgirls.
Posted by: Daddy-O | April 11, 2007 1:33 PM
1 o'clock game at Dallas, what's up with that? Might be tricky for the skins, having to wake up earlier.
Posted by: Denesh | April 11, 2007 1:36 PM
As a fan, I don't like the schedule for second half of October and through early December as they have three weeks between home games. In addition, like everyone else has said the quick 4 day turn around when you think about for the Bears is a bit unreal. They should have scheduled the Bears game for Sunday and Buffalo Thursday. No offense to Dockery Robert Royal but facing a team like Chicago is a tough turn around compared to the inconsistency from Buffalo.
Posted by: straubjmu25 | April 11, 2007 1:36 PM
Who sees the final game against the cowboys being moved to a SNF for flew scheduling?
Posted by: Inigo Montoya | April 11, 2007 1:37 PM
We must remember that at the end of '06 only 5 or 6 six teams in the NFL were worse than the Skins.
This is a bad team with bad coaching.
8-8 is very optimistic...
Posted by: Gregg | April 11, 2007 1:38 PM
Last game @ home vs. Dallas is either a very important game...or pointless.

Gregg,
no offense but this is the time of the year where you discuss how great and improved your team is and that they are going to the playoffs.
Every Cardinals fan right now is talking about the playoffs even though they havent been in 30 years. So please dont talk like that for at least another day or two. thanks.
oh and by the way what was the Skins record in 2004? What happened the following year? What was the Saints schedule in 2005? and how did they do last year?
Posted by: Inigo Montoya | April 11, 2007 1:42 PM
Better that Chicago is at home. Would have been nice to have that bye week in November.

This is when fans are supposed to be poitive!!

ES, thats awesome. I just called my wife to tell her the good news... that she is due during the bye week!!!
Posted by: Inigo Montoya | April 11, 2007 1:44 PM
With this team/league, I am not sure that Detroit, at Green Bay, and Arizona are easy wins for the Skins.
Of course, by Week 8 who knows if Jets, Eagles, CGirls, Bucs, etc. are difficult games, either.
It seems to change every year, except for a handful of teams...

I also don't like the 4 day turn around for the Bears in addition to the wk4 BYE. One or the other may have been OK, but it seems like last year was one of the 1st seasons in a while where we had a decent midseason BYE; wasn't '05 week 3? Seems like a raw deal- maybe it's just me and my Homerness.

4-12, LMAO
Posted by: Inigo Montoya | April 11, 2007 1:50 PM
I've been watching the schedule announcement show on the NFL Network. Someone please help me to understand why the cowgirls get 7 nationally televised games when they haven't won a playoff game in almost 15 years! I just don't get the obsession them.
Posted by: JustMe | April 11, 2007 1:52 PM
Inigo,
Your point is well taken.
Just trying to be objective. Unrealistic expectations lead to big disappointments. Incremental progress year-to-year is how teams get to and stay in contention for the SB. The New Orleans model is an exception.
Ashburn swings for the fences every year - every year they strike out.
Posted by: Gregg | April 11, 2007 1:53 PM
Sorry, 4-12. You might as well go to court and get that name officially made yours.

The Media's Team, perhaps. The only Cowgirls fans I know are people who are local people who are mad at the Redskins.
They have the same obsession with Brett Favre. Green Bay gets either 4 or 5 national games. Green Bay??? As my 4 year old used to say, give me my break.
Posted by: JustMe | April 11, 2007 1:56 PM
Dam* sween!
You beat me to it!
"The worst part is the early bye week."
You'd love to have a later bye week if you're putting together a playoff run, which, by the way I think is possible.
You pessimists out there who see Tampa and the Jets as guaranteed losses are trippin'.
Of course it's preposterously early to make any real predictions, but if we can't beat those two teams it will be a long year.

Most important question -- how many teams do we play as they come off their bye week? That was brutal last year!

Inigo- Glad you got it. Was thinking some of the new hamsters might come at me like "you've killed my father, prepare to die"!
Posted by: 4-12 | April 11, 2007 1:59 PM
Hey, the schedule is out! Woo-hoo! The most over-rated day of the NFL year as far as I am concerned. Each team has 16 games scheduled and all games have to be played. It doesn't matter who plays who or when. A good team wins games; a bad team loses games. I predict the Redskins will win some and lose some.
What's really important is that the draft is coming up soon, and the Redskins need to win the draft for a change. It not only affects this year, but several years into the future as well. Let's hope that most of the information coming out of Ashburn these days IS disinformation, and not simply more of the confusion we have seen from the FO in years past.
Posted by: Otter | April 11, 2007 2:00 PM
Someone call Joe Gibbs and tell him to forfeit the season. The team is doomed to be a loser again this year. Oh wait a minute; I thought I was 4-12 for a second there or that idiot JoeyV. I can't wait till mid season to read about all the praise you idiots are BYGO when the skins turn it around. Fair weather negative fans suck!
Hail Redskins, Hail Victory!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Anonymous | April 11, 2007 2:00 PM
Why do the schedule makers keep sending the Skins to play at Tampa Bay??? That's 3 years in a row not to mention the playoff win down there.
Posted by: Gregskins | April 11, 2007 2:01 PM
Steve Marriucci just said on the NFL Network that he sees us making a playoff push this season. He likes the additions of Fletcher-Baker and Smoot and the return of a healthy Clinton Portis.

In Tampa.
Again.
Ugh...
Posted by: BurgundyNGold | April 11, 2007 2:04 PM
Not brave enough to post your name :)
Not fair-weather or negative, concerned once I saw that schedule... and if you read my first post, if they beat an NFC east team at home and/or tampa/jets we have a winning a record and a trip to the playoffs!
Dallas has a new coaching staff and TO, so we have a leg up on them.
Giants without Tiki! Another great chance for us!
Burgundy and Gold colored glasses back on... 11-5!
Posted by: JoeyV | April 11, 2007 2:05 PM
jm220,
I don't think they will either. I think we're going to see more of the Tony Romo we saw toward the end of the season, and not the one who pulled some plays out of his a$$ when they went on that short win streak last season.
I don't think the Giants are looking that good either.
It'll be interesting to see what things look like after the draft and the June 1st cuts, and eventually see how things shake out once the season begins.
Posted by: JustMe | April 11, 2007 2:05 PM
The NFL has finally done it. No prime time match up between the 'Skins and the Cowgirls. It took them long enough to realize that they weren't making any money off of this match up in places other than DC and Dallas.
Posted by: YaakovMar | April 11, 2007 2:06 PM
I always get cranked up for Schedule Day and am always let down, Otter. Part of it is knowing the opponents so early. The only real fun left is seeing when the bye will fall.
Posted by: Cindy | April 11, 2007 2:07 PM
Otter! You're back; how did the cucumber work?
4-12, it will cause less confusion if you change your name to 4-12 Jr. (and then 4-12 Jr. Jr.)
Referring to the previous discussion of how much we want Quinn, don't you think the most important thing is to convince either Minn or Miami that we *really* want him?
Oh, and I just wrote on a blog somewhere that the Briggs talks have been re-energized; Chicago is going to sweeten the pot a bit by throwing in a late-round-value player, some safety named 'Archuleta' -- not much for coverage, but is relatively cheap.
Posted by: cload and daggar | April 11, 2007 2:08 PM
I think the NFC east is ripe for the plucking;
Evidence
#1) G-men (6-10) are going to flounder as most people here predict b/c no Tiki Barber. Two years ago when tiki wasn't lighting it up, how good were they? Has much changed on that team since then?
#2) (8-8)Cowpies have a new head coach. Lots of good players but new O, new D is going to take some time
#3) Iggles (9-7) Andy Reid has personla issues to deal with. McNabb back on a team that went to the playoffs without him could struggle early but make a push
#4) Skins (11-5) Same Coach, same QB, same O, Same D, new players to play critical roles (MLB, CB depth and Dline draft)plus a healthy Portis
You heard it here first. Tag the blog and look back... I have clairvoyant abilities

Excellent point- I'd love to know that for this schedule.
Posted by: D7 | April 11, 2007 2:12 PM
If there are any playoff implications to that Dec. 30th game, it will be flexed to prime time.
Right now, Kansas City and the Jets are the prime time game. Both teams made the playoffs last year (forget that they didn't go anywhere).
Posted by: YaakovMar | April 11, 2007 2:13 PM
I see Green Bay as a definate win. If Farve is up to his typical performance, we should see 3 turnovers (2 picks) It is also early enough that the cold is not the typical factor in their favor. Buffalo is a troubling team in my estimation. Great running (and receiver) with one of the highest scoring defenses about 2 years ago. Lets not forget that Chicago is vunerable to turnovers and their QB situation will not likely be improved.
Posted by: MrSpartan | April 11, 2007 2:14 PM

I'm curious as to who is going to be Head Coach next year because when (not if, WHEN) the Redskins put up a 5-11 record this year, Coach Gibbs probably heads back to the safety and comfort of NASCAR. Hmmmm....Williams or Saunders.....
Wait, with Snyder calling the shots he'll probably use his money to try and resurrect Lombardi from the grave. Wouldn't put it past him.

How's that again? Trade down for more picks? Man, I am learning so much good stuff off this blogsite. Just think how much smarter I could become if they never played and all we did was blog!

No post-BYEs? Beautiful. ALMOST makes up for our early one. Almost.
Posted by: D7 | April 11, 2007 2:31 PM
Great to hear that we have no opponents after their bye week. Over all this is much better schedule than last year. I can see 10 or 11 wins on this schedule.
Don't know why we always play at Tampa, but we are playing them this year because we play every team in the NFC that finishes with the same rank in their division and last year because we played all the NFC south and the previous year because of the division rate again. But it seems currious that we have not had a home game against them.
Posted by: gethanr13 | April 11, 2007 2:31 PM
Skins play Tampa this year for the same reason they played them last year. Skins and Bucs ended up in the same place in their respective divisions.

Man, that's a lot of blogging about nothing between now and then.

Go play in your sandbox then. We'll call you when it's game time.
Posted by: Otter | April 11, 2007 2:36 PM
Clarification: This year the Skins play Tampa Bay for the same reason they did in 2005 (place w/in the division). Last year Skins played the Bucs b/c the NFC East played against the NFC South.

Does anyone else think that a Difficulty of Schedule Ranking figured AFTER the season (based on the teams' records of that season) would be a much more accurate reflection than one figured BEFORE a season- based on the previous season's records? Whoa- that was confusing. I guess it doesn't really matter, since at this point last season is all we have to go on...and right now I'll take any analysis I can get.
Posted by: D7 | April 11, 2007 2:38 PM
The more I think about it, the more I'm liking the early bye week. If anything needs to be tweaked, maybe the early bye will nudge Coach Gibbs to do it early in the season rather than wait until half the games have been played and the season is in the toilet again.
Posted by: JustMe | April 11, 2007 2:38 PM
Wow, talk about reversal of fortune -- no teams coming off a bye and four teams 'overlooking' us on the way to a bye.
And at least from my vague memories of last year, there were a larger-than-normal number of players who didn't play in that 'last game before the bye' in order to have enough time to come back off the bye.
Don't know if that really offsets our early bye, but it would certainly be greedy to ask for any more from the schedule gods.
MrSpartan, d'you have any 'buffalo chips' (is that anything like cow chips?) to sell with that salsa. I know it's for the kids...

Oct. 14th (the 5th game, away at GB) should be a blog day bar crawl. The result of THAT game is the first chance for 4-12 to upgrade his blog name.
Posted by: dcsween | April 11, 2007 2:40 PM
Anyone else feel like NE is vunerable this year? Dillion is gone. I would bet they have the same problems the Steelers had last year..."Expectation Fatigue"
Posted by: MrSpartan | April 11, 2007 2:41 PM
10-6. This blog has become a crack smokers' den. For those of predicting 10 wins, do you base that on how bad the opponent was last year or how bad you suspect they will be this year? Hello? Skins were 5-11 last season and haven't done much to improve their weaknesses. I'd love to share the optimism but until I see different I'm preparing myself for more of the same - much like the discussion on this blog.
Saying the Redskins have same coaches, same O and same D is not anything I'd hold up as evidence of future success.
Giants - F Tiki. Brandon Jacobs is a load and Skins' d-line is not so good. Shockey and Toomer are still there right?
Cowboys - potent offensive weapons, good D
Eagles - McNabb back, very good D. Reid ain't lining up at QB or MLB so his personal issues are irrelevant to his team's success or failure. Joe Gibbs has personal issues too if that matters.
I'm praying for 8-8 but will except 7-9. If they do much better than that I won't complain.
Posted by: LH | April 11, 2007 2:42 PM
JUSTME- Interesting take on the Bye; I'm just hoping that doesn't mean Gibbs is rethinking (or needs to be rethinking) the Cube situation.

MrSpartan, you know that MacGahee is gone right? Also, two years ago the Skins made the wild card game. Put away that old calendar. The season is off and running and the SKins are UNDEFEATED!

I think I have a good perspective on the game. I really love football. It's my favorite sport. The Redskins are my favorite team. I may say that I'm going to root for another team, but that's just an empty threat. Football is fun too watch and follow. If the team loses people don't die. They just feel like they wasted money. When the redskins don't do good, I don't buy merchandise, but I still watch the games and root for the team.
For everyone that is in depresion right now, 1) it's just a game, 2) how many people thought the Saints were going to be so good?, 3) why can't this team turn it around in one year?
Any given sunday any team can beat any team. That's why they play the games.
Posted by: the don | April 11, 2007 2:49 PM
MrSpartan, New England fatigued? Corey Dillon was the only real question of fatigue there. NE has re-loaded at WR (Donte Stallworth, Wes Welker, Kelly Washington), new blood at RB (Sammy Morris), brought in one of the best blocking tight end in the NFL (Kyle Brady) to replace Graham, plus Adalius Thomas is on board. If anything, it looks like NE is uncharacteristically going for broke so Belichek can retire in a blaze of glory. NE does not seem real vulnerable to me. Chicago, on the other hand ...
Posted by: dcsween | April 11, 2007 2:52 PM
PLUS, New England has TWO first round picks!

NE is mentally fatigued because of their high expectations. Also Bellycheck needs to be fined and/or suspended for that horrible "Flashdance" sweatshirt getup he wears on the sidelines.

I'm a season ticket holder and a diehard fan. My take...
Tougher than last year's schedule. No obvious player or coaching improvements except that we're committed to Campbell from the beginning.
8-8 at the best.
Nothing to play for against Dallas in game 16.

"Of course, the issue of offensive team names isn't limited to baseball; the NFL has the team with the most offensive nickname left in pro sports, the Washington Redskins. The Redskins should be playing in a division with the Philadelphia Darkies and the New York Mongoloids. Those terms may be out of favor as racial epithets, but they are epithets nonetheless, borne of a mentality that a person could be judged inferior by the color of his skin."

Posted by: the don | April 11, 2007 3:05 PM
Sept 2-1
Oct 2-2
Nov 2-2
Dec ?-?
So it's 6-5 going into December. Will it be a 4-1 Dec and off to the playoffs at 10-6? Or a 1-4 December and off to retirement for Gibbs at 7-9? That is the dilemma of this season.
The wake-up game of the year will be against New England. The revived/revised West Coast-style NE offense puts up at least 40 points against the Redskins, while the NE defense puts the ugly smackdown on the Saunders' offense.

Coach Joe's quote in the team's press release:

A pall has truly been cast across the shire today.
Far away in Mordor (Dallas), Sauron (Jerry Jones) is plotting a way to trick Frodo (Buges) into relinquishing the ring of power (don't think I need to explain that one).
Hopefully Gandalf the Grey (Joe Gibbs) can keep Gollum (The Danny) fromruining everything in his hunt for his precious.

Dillon may be gone- but LMaroney is a beast, um Really?
He played in 14 games and rushed for UNDER 50 yards in 8 of them. He's now coming off major shoulder surgery. Dillon had 13 touchdowns LAST YEAR alone. Sammy Morris has 14 CAREER touchdowns in 7 seasons. Kelley Washington had 9 catches last year. The Pats receivers are STILL mediocre. Stallworth MIGHT be an upgrade, but you can't tell if he's going to play one week to the next. Wes Welker? They traded a 2nd and 7th for this guy? Did Vinny start working for them?

The Burgundy and Gold vs. The Pewter and Puce?
The Annual Suckfest-By-The-Bay?
Coach Clean vs. Coach Dirty?
Saint Joe vs. the Evil Chucky?
The Skins game vs. "The Skins Game"?
What a weekend - Thanksgiving Thursday and football, Friday shopping free-for-all followed by great college football, followed by more college football on Saturday, followed by Redskins football on Sunday.
Or would you rather have the NHL playoffs and the end of the NBA season accompanied by draft disinformation instead?

Who cares when the Redskins play the Cowboys? It doen't matter because they will beat the Cowboys AGAIN! Just like last time. Why? Because Dallas sucks! So, there's two wins already.
The last victory was awesome with the Sean Taylor return + field goal. But, even better was when Brunnel threw bombs and won in the last few minutes! HA, HA! I'll never forget the look on Fatcells face. PRICELESS!

I have said it before and I know this is standard football knowledge, but the key to this season is our division record. I think that If our defence plays like 04,05 then we are the best team in the NFC east.

Thoughts on the schedule: In Philly will be tough. They usually start strong. I'd rather play at GB in October than Nov or Dec. Good timing with Arizona and at TB as well. Four out of games on the road in Oct/Nov - yuck. Buffalo in Dec - yuck as well. I like the final game against Dallas - should be entertaining even if they're out of it by then.
So which team will be the surprise team this year (like the saints last year)? The skins could be IF they can fix the defense. Arizona might finally do it too.

Don Banks on the Redskins' play-off prospects:
• The Redskins, Vikings and Eagles all have strength of schedule ratings of .500, meaning that their opponents this year all went a combined 128-128 in 2006. Pretty telling, huh? Not really. But I do like Philly's chances to repeat their NFC playoff trip of last season, while I expect the Redskins and Vikings to again sit out January's festivities.
Posted by: KK | April 11, 2007 3:47 PM
BostonGreg- his stats may have been sub-par, but I still think a healthy Maroney can be a gamechanger; give him some carries and some rhythm. Also, NE's receivers may still be subpar, but their record over the past several seasons speaks for itself.

SMACK and 4-12 bringing the enthusiasms! This blog has been aching for laughs for a few weeks now. Thank you! I don't know when the league year formally starts under the CBA, but as far as I'm concerned, today is the first day of the season. That stuff since the Super Bowl (including the Pro Bowl and free agency) ... that is OFF season. It has been exhausting. No idea how to cope after the draft. I just want two first day picks. I don't care how they get it done. I don't care if they pick Johnson or Russell or Quinn (of course, per Old School, if they do pick one of them, they better be right). I just want TWO first day picks (and no trading of Portis or Moss or Cooley or Taylor).

It's going to be a fun season of tailgating and hoping for a January home game. Great to start the season at home against a weak Miami team...not so great to proceed next to Philly on MNF.
No one should predict a final record because it's pointless. Talk about the new additions, the coaches, the problems/questions facing our division rivals, the development of the QB and our young WRs and RBs, and hopefully a nice pick at #6. And have faith that the Skins can put it all together by September and start the season strong.
Until then, enjoy some NBA/NHL playoffs, get to a MLB/MLS game, enjoy the warm weather and spend time at the beach this Summer. When that's all over with, it'll be time for football!!

I think New England is going to be a super bowl contender. They have improved in the off season and still have two first round picks. Brady is the best quarterback in the leage, and unless he gets hurt he will be in the pro bowl again this year. I think its highly doubtful we pick up a win in Foxboro. On the other hand I do smell blood in the NFC east.

An early bi-week isn't always bad. Sure, later ones get you some much needed rest. But earlier ones let you make adjustments. Last year we really needed both.

I can see it know...
Cooley 9 catches 87 yds, 2 TD's.
Moss 7 catches 149yds and a touch.
Portis 135 yds 1 touch.
ARE - 73 yd punt return for a touch. Soup - 3 TD's 357 yds. 37 yds rushing.
Def. 5 sacks,
1 fumble recovery (S.Taylor)
1 Int. SMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMOOOOOT!

NFC East Champions.

sorry I have a slow day at work so I am just commenting on earlier post. As far as the Cowgirls being america's team or the media's team, I would have to say media's team. The level of coverage T.O. recieved last year on Sports Center was discusting. After the cowgirls lost in the playoffs they recieved more coverage than the teams that were actually moving on to the next round. They are by a huge margin the most publicized team in the media.
Posted by: Brutus | April 11, 2007 4:23 PM
D7, sorry, I'm not seeing it with Maroney. He was below average for most of the year, and now he's having shoulder surgery, thats not a good thing for a running back. With Dillon out of there, being replaced by Sammy Morris, they've taken a BIG step back, as far as the backfield is concerned.

So SMACK, you get a courtesy 15 seconds to talk about the Cowpukes' schedule. You want gloat about not having to play the Patriots in Foxboro? Getting a bye at Week 8? You can't be more pleased about St. Louis and Carolina (against the Skins' Arizona and Tampa Bay) ...
Or do we all just do a little dance about how the sucker Giants have to fly to London in the middle of the season.
Did anyone else notice how the Skins only have three games (Minny, GB, and stupid Dallas) outside the Eastern time zone?
Posted by: dcsween | April 11, 2007 4:29 PM
Well, as a playoff team, I couldn't have been expecting the NFL to lob softballs at us as they did our cellar-dwelling rivals. Truthfully I don't see better than 9-7 and another playoff, uh, scramble for Romo and the Boys.
Posted by: SMACK | April 11, 2007 4:33 PM
If we end up 4-12 this year it certainly won't be the schedules fault. we have a chicago bears-like baby butt schedule out of Division because of our last place finish...minus New England and maybe the bears.
1. I think the jets and green bay were flukes last year,
2. miami doesnt have a QB,
3. the vikings would start danny wuerffel right now,
4. tampa bay's D is a year older and who knows how well jeff garcia will mesh,
5. and if we lose to JP Losman with no running game to take pressure off we deserve that 4-12 record,
i also think we usually play well against the bears (although i think the one time rex played against us he torched us). and the other teams in the NFC will look a lot different from last year (who would you rather face wade phillips or the tuna? tiki barber or reuban droughns? jeff garcia or donovan mc....nevermind. you get my point
I think minus some real impact rookies from the draft we could make a playoff push if we can forget about last year and jason gets a whole offseason in the same system but please guys DON'T BLAME THE SCHEDULE!!!

Laurence Maroney had a very good year last year on a limited number of carries. Anyone who thinks their running game is going to miss a beat b/c old-man goal-line-TD-getting Dillon is gone is crazy.
Maroney got 4.3 YPC. With 300 carries he would have had 1300 yards and 10+ TDs on the ground alone.
Maroney looks to beast this year.
Posted by: Clinton Hill | April 11, 2007 4:54 PM
That shoulder surgery that Maroney JUST had sure does seem like it just might be a problem. He did look good, but it takes a lllllllllllong time to heal. Portis still hasn't finished rehabing and he had his almost 4 months before Maroney. Also it's a big difference from being a every down back vs getting half the carries.
Posted by: Hail to 'em | April 11, 2007 4:57 PM
I think that Sammy Morris, and Maroney wont get it done. Dillon had 37 touchdowns in the last 3 years, and WAS ON THE DECLINE. Maroney is now also coming off shoulder surgery, and the guy they have backing him up is just a guy.

The first thing that caught my eye was the damm early bye week. Last year it was in the middle but the year before it was really early too. Why can't we get a later bye week? Do the Skins have to bye a late buy week???
And will the league please explain why we play TB threee years in a row down there!
Posted by: charlie | April 11, 2007 5:04 PM
Another great one...
Posted by: SMACK | April 11, 2007 5:05 PM
12-4; Yes, 12-4.
It HAS TO BE 12-4 for this team. I honestly don't see this schedule as that tough. Chicago and New England sure, but if the Skins settle on a philosophy who in the NFC east can out coach Gibbs? If this team plays 'Redskin football' for 16 weeks, and of course Campbell matures swiftly, in today's NFL everybody's got a shot.
Posted by: adinasi | April 11, 2007 5:07 PM
Anyway, why doesn't the league set up the Thurs. games AFTER the teams bye week???

Boffo, what are you talking about?!?!?!? Brutus, have at him.
Posted by: dcsween | April 11, 2007 5:16 PM
12-4; 11-5; or 10-6. That mid-season strecth will determine whether we have a winning season of losing season. I believe we will only lose one game in the division. The key outside of the division will be to beat Chicago and New England. Everyone else in the schedule is evenly match-assuming our defense gets back to top-form and better play calling on offense.
If this does not happen we will be 8-8 or worse.

From a W-L perspective, everyone in the NFC sucks ... but mostly b/c we have to play each other. Picking the outcome of any NFC matchup is nearly impossible until a few seconds before the game ends. There's a blah blah guy (Perloff) at si.com who says NE has the toughest schedule, except against Cleveland and Washington, who he calls soft. This guy is so fulla crap b/c he thinks the AFC North is the toughest division. While I will give him Baltimore, its Pittsburgh who is soft (and, though I am a Clevelander by roots, the Browns are soft). Cincinnati might be a legitimate threat, even ON the field, but no way any other division comes as close to parity as the NFC East.
Posted by: dcsween | April 11, 2007 5:26 PM
That first sentence was supposed to be the everyone in the NFC EAST sucks (b/c we have to play each other).
Posted by: dcsween | April 11, 2007 5:27 PM
Ah, read some of the blog up there and found out why we play TB three times.
Anyway, I think it would cool if everyone in the nfc east went 8-8 and split all the division games among themselves. (But I'm probably the only one.)

YOU'SE GUYS MISS THE POINT! Last year's Skins team wasn't even competitive. We were getting blown out of games early and often. We've done nothing this off-season to make the pass rush or secondary, coaching, etc. any better. 3rd downs will = more of the same. We're once again trying to hand over the draft for things we don't need. And now a schedule of "perrenial" playoffers? 5-11... again.

Brooklyn Skins was just found in the park throwing bird crumbs to himself.
The Redskins are going to be much improved. The pre-season last year put bad juju all over them. This is going to be a much better team.
Posted by: Cheyenne, WY | April 11, 2007 5:52 PM
Hi guys! Can you explain to me why the release of the schedule is such a big deal? If we already knew who we played, and if it was home or away, why the excitement over which order we play them in?
Posted by: kost52 | April 11, 2007 6:03 PM
I never really look at a schedule and say these are "winable games" and these are tough games ETC.
Look at New Orleans last year, before the season EVERYONE of us was liek...that is an easy win...turns out we had to fight dang hard for it. NO was much improved...
The NFL changes drastically from year to year...lets hope that changes in our favor this year.....
If we stay healthy and Campbell stays within himself and the system, we can beat any team in the league.

8-8 at best. Toughest division in football, quite possibly the worst team. Can't rely on Brunell's arm, Campbell's inexperience - but most disturbingly, neither the offensive line nor defensive interior can play the run. We'll talk winning seasons in 3 or 4 years. Sorry, folks.
Posted by: Siege16 | April 11, 2007 6:09 PM
Last game with Dallas? Well apparently the schedule makers and TV schedulers still have high hopes. Wins Losses? All depends on the draft. If somehow they could wrangle Calvin Johnson and keep him healthy along with Santana Moss the offense should be completely turned around next year. Defensively it all depends on coverage corners and whether London Fletcher and Rocky McIntosh pan out. The need to get some guys who can cover wide receivers one-on-one. Then watch Sean Taylor blitz both against the pass and run. 10 and six. Otherwise expect another year under .500 and a massive turnover next year.
Posted by: Periculum | April 11, 2007 6:11 PM
Siege16 - Did you say the offensive line can't play the run?? 4.5 yards a carry not good enough for you??
Posted by: kost52 | April 11, 2007 6:14 PM
NOBODY GETS IT. Want to score? Get a dominant front 5. Want to win a game? Stop the run, rush the QB. It's about the heffers up front. A WR touches the ball, what - 5-6 times a game? It ain't about safety blitzes. It's about NOT HAVING TO BRING UP THE SAFETY. It's a simple game - IF you're interested in actually WINNING, and not just selling tickets to see Sean Taylor get kicked out of another game for cheapshotting some punk WR over the middle.

Siege16,
I dont understand why you keep making references to our offensive line not being good. We have a great O line and we are just a few adjustments on defence away from being a complete team.
Posted by: Brutus | April 11, 2007 6:23 PM
Yes, the last seven games showed that the Redskins can run the ball decently, but they still went, what, 2 and 5 over that period? When the offense ran it, the defense couldn't stop it. Did you watch the Rams game? Case in point. My point is simply this: You build the offense AND defense inside-out. What will keep the Redskins from losing more than they win? Inexperience at QB, and a defense that every Redskin fan is ashamed of. To Joe Gibbs - you can't play "Redskins Football" without the like of the Hogs, Riggins, and a dominant defensive front. Alright - back to work. Discuss amongst yourselves.
GO REDSKINS!

kost52- It's sort of like if the Guernseys are your favourite footy team, and it's their offseason. Then throw in Ian Thorpe is retired and suspected of doping, and Stuart Appleby blew his chance at the Masters, and suddenly the Guernseys schedule came out...you'd be pumped.

Chris Mortensen: Tough? The NFC East plays the AFC East this year so I guess playing the Patriots on the road is tough. But it's look pretty manageable to me. I happen to think you'll like the way the Redskins play this year, regardless of schedule.

Why all the Romo hate in here? Listen, I hate the Cowpukes like any other Burgundy and Gold blooded blogger here too. The 2 Cowpukes games are circled on my calendar first thing ...
but that play against Seattle just bad luck. I can't give proper credit to the sportswriter who said it, but when he scrambled after the botched snap, Romo ended up being 8 inches short of a first down and 18 inches short of playoff immortality.
What would a real daft QB have done in that situation? He would have back-pedaled aimlessly and thrown the ball up for grabs in the end zone. At least Romo was quick enough to try for the first. I think Romo is getting a rough ride.
Anyway, I like I schedule, especially the relatively easy first seven weeks. Hopefully the team can build up some confidence and momentum before those tough games (@NE, @NYJ, Philly, @Dal, @TB).

After your past couple of post it is obvious that you do not understand football. The D line is the top priority. You can have all the linebackers and coverage corners you want but if they have to cover for 10 seconds ANY NFL QB will burn them. Pressure from the front 4 will allow everyboby to drop in coverage. That way you do not need to blitz. Remember the QB can't throw from his back. The reason Double GG blitzes so much is because he can't get it done with just 4. With D Line pressure, 11-5 and playoffs. Without, 5-11 and Gibbs is a lame duck.
Posted by: DC in DC | April 11, 2007 9:19 PM
Pretty clear that if the Skins are going to be anything this year they had better get a fast start. Because we start that late October schedule with 4 out of 5 on the road beginning with the Pats. That could get ugly. Still a lot of winnable games and that is courtesy of parity and a last place schedule

Every year around this time, the media hypes up how the Cowboys will make a Superbowl run... Can anyone tell me, is there any other team in all of sports that has had less success than Dallas in the past decade, yet continues to be considered a contender every season?
The only other team in the NFC that has gone longer without winning a playoff game is the Lions. Hmm... haven't seen many Peter King or Don Banks or ESPN Specials where the Lions are picked to win it all.
Strange...

If we put pressure on rexy we will beat the bears, and if i'm not mistakin' we beat them 9-3 in '05 and went to the playoffs. I hate the cowgirls and think its stupid that they got 7 nationally televised games and greenbay got 4 or 5. I personally think this schedule stuff is overrated. Teams change so much on a year to year basis with the exception of the 5 or so that are good every year. The main thing is they can't lose that opener at home to Miami. People will look at that and think its an easy win but will probably be a tough W to get. If they take care of business unlike last year with Minny and we can beat either Philly (not likely) or the Gmen and go 2-1 into the bye we will be in good shape. The 3 games right after the bye all look very winnable. HTTR.

Anyone here see Chris Mortenson on sportscenter? He anticipates the Redskins will look more like the playoff team of 2005 than last year's 5-11 team. So the ppros are already talking about the Redskins playing well. I am quietly optimistic.
Anyone else planning a road trip to Lambeau October 14th?
Posted by: mugamack | April 12, 2007 1:20 AM
O.K. yes, it's silly trying to predict how they'll do. As Gibbs says, any team could win on any given Sunday. But what the heck... we don't have anything better to do.
If Campbell still looks like a rookie, we're lost. If the defense doesn't improve, we're toast anyway you look at it. But it's April and I'm optimistic, because I CAN be in April.
I'm going to HOPE that Campbell starts to have flashes of greatness. I'm going to HOPE that Fletcher leads the way in plugging some of those holes, and that the secondary can become some semblance of a threat. If we have any right to hope those things, then the schedule doesn't look too bad. In fact, it looks pretty good.
And I'm going to bet (though it may be wishful thinking) that Dallas is going to suffer under this coaching change, and that it's going to be a bad year for them. So, I've got it this way:
(WIN) Miami, (LOSS)at Philadelphia, (WIN) Giants, BYE, (WIN) Detroit, (WIN) at Green Bay, (WIN) Arizona, (LOSS) at New England, (WIN) at New York Jets, (LOSS) Philadelphia, (WIN) at Dallas, (WIN) at Tampa Bay, (WIN) Buffalo, (WIN) Chicago--they have Rex Grossman as their quarterback after all, (LOSS) at New York Giants, (WIN) at Minnesota, (WIN) Dallas
That would put us at 12-4. Note that I haven't totally lost my mind. I have 2 losses against the Eagles. Granted, we could easily lose another to the Giants, both to Dallas, the one at the Jets, and the Chicago game, and we'd be 7-9 instead. But for now, I'm going to HOPE that Campbell and Fletcher will lead us to victory. Hail.

7. Who's stock has risen the most in recent weeks?
Take a look at DT Amobi Okoye from Louisville. He has a decent senior year as a 19-year-old and finished up as a probable second-round pick. He packed his bags for the Senior Bowl to prove he's better than that and after a week in pads in front of all the NFL brass, he jumped to a late first-round pick. He went to the Combine with that same focus and his workout and interviews moved him up the charts to a mid first-round selection. At his pro day workout, he clocked 4.88 in the 40-yard dash at a weight of 302 pounds. film studies on him by the defensive line coaches draw parallels to Warren Sapp. With just a few weeks to go, it looks like the teenager has climbed to a top-10 pick.

Anyone else planning a road trip to Lambeau October 14th?

I am! That's why I get so excited when the schedule comes out. I can then plan which games home games I will definitely go to and which games I might be persuaded to part with my tickets for family/friends. And, I get to make plans for road trips. Like, even though I knew before seeing the acutal dates that the Skins played Green Bay this season, there's no way I would have considered going there in December. But, Lambeau is definitely on the radar now that I know that game is in October.

You guys are nuts talking 10-6. This team couldn't score 1 offensive TD at either Dallas, NY or Philly. If this team wants to be taken seriously they need to focus on the division first. Because to me, the rest is just filler.
