Bramlet Makes a Case
I caught a couple of quarters of the World Bowl (My annual party was pretty intense! And those commercials!!!) just to see what Casey Bramlet could do. He had an impressive game, although it was NFL Europa. Still, he led the She Devils (er, Sea Devils) to the upset win and was MVP. Next up, Redskins training camp (after he gets married), where one of the compelling story lines should be the competition at backup QB. The team doesn't figure to keep two "elderly" backups, but will it be Gibbs' guy or Saunders' guy who goes? Certainly Bramlet will come into camp with a hot hand, but that may not mean he's the next Kurt Warner. As you guys have pointed out, he's increased his value to the team, even if it's for trading purposes.
As promised, we covered the game ...

Dealer, from the last post, thanls for the info on Google.
I saw that, would be nice, alas the wife is pretty firmly entrenched in this area.
I check gis jobs clearinghouse everyday, and just watch the jobs float by.
Oh well, pushing for a promotion within my company, so hopefully that plays out.

Could Cowher be a Cowboy?
Posted: Sunday June 24, 2007 08:16AM ET
Any number of NFL teams could take a run at Bill Cowher. It wouldn't surprise anyone if Cowboys owner Jerry Jones fired Wade Phillips after just one season to make a pitch for him. Patience is running thin with Giants coach Tom Coughlin. The same is true with the Buccaneers' Jon Gruden. But the Panthers, Redskins and Browns probably make the most sense.

Hey,can anybody tell me if Comcast has added the NFL network channel to its premium list?I was getting it free, but last night I was flipping chanels and got a message saying I wasnt authorized for that channel.Where you at 85?
Posted by: dawglbs | June 23, 2007 08:49 AM
same thing happened to me. that sh*tty company comcast is trying to steal more money from people by moving it to the sports package. $5 more a month for that and probably a bunch of other garbage channels nobody wants.

THANK the football Gods a lucky break. The guy seems like a hard worker. He sounds like the type that won't be stopped in training camp.
(Jason, keep in mind that this coaching staff has groomed at least SIX NFC conference / superbowl QBs in the halcyon past. NOW, it does seem that perhaps Mr. Bramlet's sudden leap forward may at least in part be attributed to that? Its why I am betting that its worth getting Direct TV's very expensive HD Sunday ticket to watch them this year.)
Campbell has benefited from hard work and the coaching staff. Now Bramlet must do the same. Injuries to a QB are often the reason a playoff run ends. Whether he continues to play or goes on the IR. Leading to Brunell. If Bramlet makes a strong case in training camp, if Palmer makes a strong case as well I can't imagine them keeping either veteran. Gibbs will come up with a way to keep Brunell around if he can. But one has to think about the future of the franchise. And you can't rely on one QB. Just ask Atlanta, Philadelphia and Minnesota. Look at how successful and smart San Diego was keeping both Rivers and Brees.
In a way it may be the beginning of the end of Gibbs tenure if he decides to keep 3 young QBs instead of Brunell. Under a new coach Brunell would likely be the first to go.

Maske's Kevin Mitchell article was fabulous. Very well done.
The Seattle Pride Parade is making its way right past my front door right now. All the thumping and clanging and hoopla. Don't they understand how hungover I am?
And, now the bagpipes...

Posted by: Cindy | June 24, 2007 3:35 PM
Cindy, if you're doing a NYC excursion, you must head to Daniel for dinner. I managed to get a table last week...wow.

I have to admit, those Budweiser guys sure know how to use the World Bowl. But the best commercial definitely goes to GoDaddy.com. I think I finally understand what GoDaddy.com does: they make World Bowl commercials.

Posted by: P Diddy | June 24, 2007 3:44 PM
Alex Baldinger mailed in that Casey Bramlet article. I could have written that from the comfort of my bagpipe-filled living room.

I think GoDaddy differentiates on customer self-service. I have to admit, I've used many hosting providers in my day...GoDaddy's service is pretty good. Granted, that's like saying one cellular network drops less calls than another, but you get the idea.
No idea how GoDaddy pitched. But one thing I've learned in the past 2 months is that if you've got a charismatic frontman, you can swindle no shortage of money out of VCs.

lol@da. it's pretty sad. i think if goodell just bans pacman for at least 5 years. this sorta idotic behavior will take care of itself. even the leaches don't want the cash to run out. it's not like they're groupies and can go from one player to another. those players is all they got. if that player/host goes down they all go down.

I used to live in nyc, so I've done the Daniel thing...wonderful...I take the subway more often than cabs, but I'll mention your name, dealer.
Posted by: Cindy | June 24, 2007 4:22 PM
diddy, seriously does sex matter? is having a good looking woman (smart and all) a bad thing as your "frontman"? or will it work to your advantage? cuz all i got is women who know their shti (qualified). i only know one decent guy who can pitch it. what say you a woman who knows her shti and is good looking or a guy who's good looking and also can pitch it?

as a kid i had the opportunity to go in one of the apartments of these cabbies. it was so amazing to see them live and work. basically that yellow cab never shuts down. it's on 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. it's probably the most used vehicle in the world.

I think a woman who is both beautiful and competent would intimidate many men, independent of profession. That may be changing with my generation and later, though.
Independent of that, money is the great equalizer. In my experience, rich people are all nuts. Nuts in a good way, mind you. But nuts, nonetheless. No matter who you are, if you're trying to pitch a rich guy or gal to give you money, you better have all your stuff together, whether you are a man or a woman. There have been many stories of girlfriends of famous entrepreneurs in the Valley getting funding for their silly ideas. But by and large, whether you are a man or a woman, getting funding is an uphill battle.
The "charismatic frontman" part is actually not a bad thing. If your idea is lame, you're not getting funded. If your idea is good but you can't make a case for it, you're not getting funded (or you may get funded, but your VC will assign you a corporate stooge to mind the shop). If your idea is good, and you can make a case for it, and you can project an aura of competence, confidence, and vision...well, it's still going to be hard, but you have a fighting chance.

I guess it's a pretty quiet time in general sports wise isn't it. With only one of the major sports going on at the moment. Although I guess there is a lot of NBA trade talk, and the draft on Friday.
In regards to the Marion-Jamison talks that went on earlier, I agree with Lisa, it's just not going to happen. If the Suns trade the Matrix it's going to be to improve the team. I don't think Jamison is an improvement.

Hey Cindy, you were being teasingly coy last night about the NYC subway. What was that about? And how is the big apple - are you there yet?
Posted by: Redcoat | June 25, 2007 8:10 AM
Hey Zebra, where are you that Mrs/Ms Zebra won't move?
Posted by: Redcoat | June 25, 2007 8:11 AM
Oh, bleep! I'm on vacation! Doh!
Not in NYC yet. I have some stuff to do here first, like visit my dermatologist, who has divulged the disturbing news that, at the age of, oh, mid-60s and with no musical leanings whatsoever, he has taken up the banjo. I fear he will play the one song he knows (What are the odds it's half of the "Deliverance" song???) or, worse, invite me to his recital before numbing me and removing this benign (Thanks for asking!) molething from my neck.
Honestly, I really have no NYC subway stories, other than the huge rat I ran into on the stairs at, actually, Penn Station (the 1/9 line).
Posted by: Cindy | June 25, 2007 8:30 AM
Its not so much where we are, it is where we are in relation to her family. Her family is freakishly close to one another. Parents are more like friends.
So she told me before we married that she does not want to live very far from her family. So I told her then I wont make a lot of money. It was a trade off, I guess.
Posted by: Zebra | June 25, 2007 8:34 AM
Love over money is always the right move, Z.
Posted by: Cindy | June 25, 2007 8:36 AM
I'm with Gary Larson in thinking that h*ll has a room filled with banjo and accordion players. Half of deliverance would be really cool to hear, as he plays his part and waits for the response which never comes!
Unrelatedly, when my son was growing up and first heard the word 'dermatologist' he asked why people called 'Dermot' had their own doctor. He's well-meaning, but not a smart boy.... :-)
Posted by: Redcoat | June 25, 2007 8:39 AM
Thanks Cindy; Thats what they tell me. Although my friends would probably think differently ;)
Posted by: Zebra | June 25, 2007 8:39 AM
Never having had any money it's hard to make a valid judgement, but I think Cindy's right.
So Z, did the family have some sort of elaborate welcoming ritual when you became 'one of us'? Or do they finish each other's sentences?
Cindy, you shouldn't have blown the cover on your subway story, it had just the right air of mystery before.
Posted by: Redcoat | June 25, 2007 8:42 AM
He took up the banjo to spend time with his son, who's probably in his 30s and plays guitar. There really is a recital next month....
The story about your son is great, Redcoat...I'll share it with my dermot.
Posted by: Cindy | June 25, 2007 8:43 AM
Love or money? A dollop of both is highly recommended.
Posted by: cload and daggar | June 25, 2007 8:46 AM
Cindy, you appear to have a surprisingly high level of redundant intimacy with your dermatologists life!
Sorry to hear about the mole thing; Mrs Redcoat has similar annoyances but can't face going to see a 'Diarmidh' (I always liked the Irish spelling - it's so opaque) to do anything about them. Do you have any sage words for me on persuading her to do something?
Posted by: Redcoat | June 25, 2007 8:49 AM
Actually, the first subway story is true. This one is a ruse.
I'm out the door. I'll check in periodically, but, for the next three weeks, I'm not going to think much about the N, F or L or any of its subsidiary products.
Posted by: Cindy | June 25, 2007 8:49 AM
funny you ask Red;
I met her mother and sister (older) at 3 am in the morning when she was called home for a family crisis.
got there and they were talking, felt really outta place, and it was b/c her sister cheated on her boyfriend. they were talking about it, how to deal with it, how to work the problem. then her mother turns to me and says, so what would you do?
I was flummoxed, I stuttered a little, and said the 'right' answer.
So I dont know if that was the answer they wanted, but it was the one they got, and now 10 years later I am still around.
Posted by: Zebra | June 25, 2007 8:51 AM
Wow, what was the 'right' answer to that one,
tell him straight out?
Congratulations on 10 years. And all kidding aside, I would make the choice you made ANY day - it's the only one that let's you look yourself in the eye in the mirror.

Funny you say that Z as it helped me to gain a much broader appreciation for the game and its subtleties, by making games interesting for me that didn't feature Miami.
Back in the UK I'd watch Dolphins games or the highlights of their games and that was about it. Now I can even watch Washington games as I did really well in Fantasy last year by picking on their 'D'. :-)

love over money...
i have yet to learn that love is more important than money. probably because i've had love in abundance but never had money. so i chose to chase money. and it is true that money doesn't buy you happiness. because if you're someone like me and you want to acquire as much wealth as possible you're never satisfied. and when things don't go the way you want 'em that dissatisfaction makes you not so happy.
speaking of moles cindy...i saw five of 'em around my house walls. they've dug tunnels like it's the gaza strip. so question to you folks...those tunnels around my house aren't going in my basement are they?
Posted by: dealer | June 25, 2007 9:26 AM
guys, please reconsider the league thru nfl.com. do it thru yahoo. it's painless. just wait till august...and we'll start this thing up again. i think bucktown is pretty good at this i'm pretty sure he'll bring it up again.
Posted by: dealer | June 25, 2007 9:29 AM
Hi Dealer, I think the idea with Kost's league was that he has a few friends in Oz in there and the rest of us are just making up the numbers.
I'm up for joining on Yahoo too if that makes any difference.
And as far as I know, the moles will avoid solid stuff like walls and just tunnel around it. The will make your garden look like it's come under sustained artillery fire though unless you do something about them.

Someone mentioned the idea of traiding Bram for a 2nd round pick... I say no, wait for Godell to render his verdict in the Mike Vick case, if the guy is out 8-16 games offer them MB for a 2nd round or 3rd. Traiding their backup was a bad move, Vick should be laid out by Godell
Posted by: 35332 | June 25, 2007 9:40 AM
Both are free so it doesn't matter. We should leave it to kost since he is the commish. I personally like NFL since it is easier to see your stats, and the fact that you can put up your own story lines, pics and the like to your league homepage.
The last two years I played there was a guy who had two accounts, and was busted by me for collusion. So I railed him on that homepage with funny pictures and text.
But that is a personal like, I have played both and can talk smack on both. I will join in. Can you give me the link?

I was sad to hear that redskims sarong safety LaVerne Laundry's tentacles swelled up to the size of a grape, but why did the redskims draft an octopus?
Also Mr Lamarr Herringbone broke his arm when he fell off his bike, but why did daddy take off his training wheels?
I will go now as nurse is coming to do my blanket bath.
Fondly,

"The Croyle hit
Chiefs quarterback Brodie Croyle is glad Washington is not on the Chiefs' schedule until 2009. Croyle still hears the footsteps of Washington's first-round draft pick, safety LaRon Landry.
Before he gained ignominy for missing practice time because he recently took a paintball to the groin, Landry was one of college football's most ferocious hitters at LSU. When asked recently about his most memorable hit, Landry did not hesitate.
"I'd say the Brodie Croyle hit my junior year," Landry said of a sack during LSU's 16-13 win over Alabama in 2005. "We had a double blitz from the safeties ... we were both blitzing up the middle. One of the safeties was going to come free. I was the free one. I just came in full speed, nonstop."
Croyle remembered that hit. And he was constantly reminded of it -- and several others -- during the buildup to the NFL draft.
"Every time they showed LaRon Landry highlights, I was on it," Croyle said. "I was with some buddies watching one day, and I said, 'Man that cat can hit.' They showed him just (drilling) a guy ... and it was me."

"Plaintiff Gets Nothing in $54M Case of Missing Pants
Ruling for Dry Cleaner May Spell Bigger Woes for D.C. Judge Roy Pearson
By Henri E. Cauvin and Debbi Wilgoren
Washington Post Staff Writers
Monday, June 25, 2007; 11:00 AM
The D.C. administrative law judge who sued his neighborhood dry cleaner for $54 million over a pair of lost pants found out this morning what he's going to get for all his troubles.
Nothing.
In a verdict that surprised no one, except perhaps the plaintiff himself, a D.C. Superior Court judge denied Roy Pearson the big payday he claimed was his due.
Delivering her decision in writing, Judge Judith Bartnoff wrote 23 pages dissecting and dismissing Pearson's claim that he was defrauded by the owners of Custom Cleaners and their "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sign.
"A reasonable consumer would not interpret 'Satisfaction Guaranteed' to mean that a merchant is required to satisfy a customer's unreasonable demands or to accede to demands that the merchant has reasonable grounds to dispute," the ruling said. " . . . The plaintiff is not entitled to any relief whatsoever."
It was a pointed rebuke of Pearson's claim, and came with an order to pay the cleaners' court costs. But even bigger troubles may loom for Pearson.
Financially, he could soon be on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees incurred by the owners of Customer Cleaners. Attorneys for the Chungs have said they will seek such payments, as well as sanctions against Pearson for bringing the lawsuit. Bartnoff said in her ruling that she would decide those issues after both sides have filed their motions, counter-motions and legal briefs.
Professionally, Pearson could find himself out of his $96,000-a-year job as an administrative law judge for the District government.
All that is certain right now is that he won't be getting the multi-million dollar payout he demanded when he filed suit in 2005 against Soo Chung and her husband, the owners of Custom Cleaners.

Anybody see the AquaTeenHungerForce Colon Movie For Theaters, etc. movie? I didn't expect it to stay long in the plexes, but still didn't get a chance to witness it. Yes, I'm a huge dork.

Major thanks to Redcoat and Dealer for keeping us going here today...the NFL really does disappear for one month.
Unless Pacman decides to par-tay.
I'm info central on moles...first, the kind in the yard. Dealer, take some mothballs and drop them in the holes. I don't think they'll come into your basement, but that'll keep 'em back from the house. And you won't be killing critters.
As for the skin kind, Redcoat...it's a good excuse to tell Mrs. R how important she is to you. Try that. I get checked twice a year and have had several basal-cell cancers removed. Basal cell isn't a huge deal -- it doesn't metastasize and you won't die from it, but you should have them removed. Then there's melanoma. My first cousin died of it, as did the website sports editor, Bill Grant, in March. While it's horrendous, it can be caught early and dealt with. I'm paying the price for being fair-skinned and having had sunburns. Now, with the ozone layer issues, you can get sun damage just from going to work! So everyone should get checked. Besides, Dermot needs a new banjo.

Thanks for the tip Cindy, I'll try that with Mrs R this evening. I think it's unlikely that they are malignant - although she is freckle city by this time of year - but she most definitely IS squeamish about removal. Is it painful at all? I think it's just the thought of it she doesn't like...

From the same article:
"But clearly the party's great hope is former Redskin Heath Shuler, newly elected from North Carolina's 11th District. "He's hit about three or four out of the ballpark in practice. It's hard to believe he was just a quarterback, he looks like a linebacker. The problem is he can't run" -- owing to a career-ending foot injury. "He's either going to hit a home run or a single, then we have to get him a pinch runner," said Doyle.

Holy crap!!! Is that fugly or what?
Posted by: Redcoat | June 25, 2007 12:16 PM
It isn't painful at all if, as with all cancers, it's caught early. Usually they can freeze growths off with nitrogen. Those are usually just the red growths (ketoses -- not sure of spelling; I'm on vaca!). Kornheiser, for instance, also has those; we're both serial frecklers like Mrs. 'Coat. He'd tell you they aren't painful if taken care of regularly while small.
I've had a couple of basal cell growths that are, if not painful, at least uncomfortable for a couple of days after removal. That's a two-step process: first removal, followed by further removal when the test results are positive. That's when they scrape down to healthy tissue. You can really feel the difference because the healthy tissue is firm against the spoon-shaped scalpel. I'm sorry if this is gross or too much info on skin and not enough on the Skins! But it's summer; the sun is lethal!
If you can't convince your wife to see a Dermot, you have to step up, 'Coat. Check her out! Watch for changes in moles or irregularly shaped ones. Those are the two most important things. And pay attention to her back; she can't see back there. Feel free to multi-task (and I don't mean banjo-playing) while doing this....

This discussion brings a whole new meaning to 'Redskins Insider' for me.

What is the deal with this headline and topic. Bramlet makes a case?
I am sorry to say I watched ALOT of the World Bowl game and seriously, I wasn't impressed. Sure he threw some good passes that were right on the money, but he has been playing QB since middle school. He should throw decent passes. He also either over threw or threw into the hands of a DB in the redzone 3 other times. He doesn't have very much on any of his throw.
I know it has alot to do with the time of year (nothing else to talk abut right now) but seriously considering him for anything other than a #3 AT BEST is a reach. I would prefer Palmer over hm based on arm strength alone. There is tougher competition in the Atlantic 10 that in Europe. Soups,8,and Bramlet/Palmer is my 3 with the loser between those two as a practice squad member. No more silly talk of trading Bramlet for a DE or DT.

WHY would anyone want to get him even for a 7th? he is 3rd string at best, most likely practice squad. Some one could put him on their active roster, and he will be gone. That league is not binging stars to the NFL any longer. If I hear once more, Kurt Warner came from there... soooo the freak what. That was almost 10 years ago, and if ever there was a "system" QB it was him.
Driving me crazy here ladies and gents. Got to be practical here. If we are looking at Bramlet as any BUT a person to throw picks to Smoot in practice, then some of us just dont get it.

Redcoat,
Do whatever you have to do to get Mrs. Redcoat to the dermatologist. I am also fair-skinned with freckles and moles and spent lots of time in the sun in my younger days. About 10 years ago, I had a mole that changed. Sure enough, it was a melanoma. With a shot of Novocaine, the removal was painless, and the aftermath only slightly uncomfortable. Technically, I am a cancer survivor, but I do not feel like one. Melanomas are very serious and are almost always fatal if not caught in time. But, if they are removed when detected, the only consequence is a small scar, which is much better than the alternative.
I also go to the dermatologist twice year - excellent preventative care.
Good luck with Mrs. Redcoat.

It'll be interesting to see how the backup QB roles shake out during training camp. I think there will be a legitimate competition for #2 and #3 spots. I doubt Gibbs will be partial to Brunell if he doesn't look sharp.
If it isn't Brunell they'll keep Collins, right? There is no way Hollenbach, Palmer, or Bramlet could step in if #1 and #2 are injured.

3. Collins
P. Palmer
They aren't going to let go someone who has been in the system and can help in the film room. Palmer is in the same mold as Soups (size, arm, etc...) Palmer will be the backup for years to come.
Posted by: Hail to 'em | June 25, 2007 3:50 PM
So is Palmer a lock for a spot somewhere because he was drafted. If so, his stock must be higher than Bramlet's.
What's the market for the likes of Collins, Brunell, Hollenbach or Bramlet? It can't be that good, if Culpepper is getting kicked to the curb.

Jasno has been reporting that the word is they aren't keeping both Brunell and Collins, so if Brunell is recovered in Gibbs' eyes then he is #2 other wise they will stick with Collins. The other will be released. Beyond that is a mystery, but I think Bramlet has the best shot based on what he did in NFL Europa, but Palmer will still be competition for the #3. Ultimately I see it as:
1. Campbell
2. Brunell
3. Bramlet
p. Palmer
I also think it will be a possibility that Palmer is playing in Europe next year (if the league exist) based mainly on how well it appears Bramlet is developing.
Posted by: gethanr13 | June 25, 2007 4:09 PM
Thanks for the encougement Stumped.
Brunell and Collins will not be on the same roster as I thought we all agreed as a given. Their both tooo old a do not present a future for the team.
The real question is who will win: Gibbs or Saunders? That is Gibbs QB vs. Saunders QB
1. Campbell
2. Brunell (Gibbs will always WIN)
3. Palmer
Practice Squad - Hollenbach
Traded to Raiders for a 7th Rounder - Bramlett

The ONLY Way Brunell dosen't make the roster is because he isn't 90% healed by Training Camp.
Remember, Gibbs will go out on a limb for someone who saved his life. And he asked the guy to take a paycut twice so far, so he def feels he owes the guy every chance in the world.....

"LOS ANGELES -- When Paris Hilton was sprung from jail early, few were as outraged _ and as outspoken _ as the prosecutor who put her there.
But City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo's complaints of a two-tiered jail system where "the rich and powerful receive special treatment" have come to back to haunt him.
Soon after Hilton was sent back to jail earlier this month, he acknowledged his wife had committed a similar infraction _ driving with a suspended license. Among other things, he also admitted sticking the taxpayers with the bill after his wife crashed his city-issued car in 2004, and acknowledged that staffers have occasionally run personal errands and baby-sat his children.
"He was living in somewhat of a glass house," said Raphael Sonenshein, a political scientist at California State University, Fullerton.
The disclosures have led the California bar and the city Ethics Commission to open investigations of one of Los Angeles' highest-ranking law enforcement officers.

"Germany Bans Cruise Film Shoot
By Louis Charbonneau
Reuters
Monday, June 25, 2007; 12:33 PM
BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany has barred the makers of a movie about a plot to kill Adolf Hitler from filming at German military sites because its star Tom Cruise is a Scientologist, the Defense Ministry said on Monday.
Cruise, also one of the film's producers, is a member of the Church of Scientology which the German government does not recognize as a church. Berlin says it masquerades as a religion to make money, a charge Scientology leaders reject.
The U.S. actor has been cast as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, leader of the unsuccessful attempt to assassinate the Nazi dictator in July 1944 with a bomb hidden in a briefcase.

Bramlett is a plesant surprise. Winning a championship is not an easy task, even if it was in Europe. I sure hope he can earn a roster spot, as he's certainly put in the work. He can bring that winning attitude the skins desperately need.
I also like what I'm hearing about Anthony Montgomery. He has made great strides and the players say he has the best size and athleticism of any D-lineman the skins have. Sounds like he's learning how to use that ability and may eventually become an elite DT. Good read about his improvements on redskins.com.
I believe our linebacker's will be one of the best units in the league this year. They will be the heart and soul of our defense. That alone will help the d-line play with more freedom. Oh yeah, Landry and Taylor (the LT combo) will probably make a few plays too.
Looks like a soft schedule, so anything less than .500 this year is unacceptable. It's time for the skins to get back their swagger!! Can't wait for opening day!

Never been much of a soccer player but I love to watch it on TV. FSN replayed the last couple US games in the Gold Cup.
Its always nice to see the stars and stripes beat up on the Canadians.
Then to go out a couple days later and beat Mexico in the states (even though to watch the game you would think they were playing in Tijuana)

Posted by: 4th | June 25, 2007 05:03 PM
Stop it. There is no hypocrisy in the law. The rule of law is great. It's people who are hypocrites in their application of the law or their own behavior. Don't let high profile matters give you the wrong impression. Stories about how the law helps people don't draw the kind of attention given to $54 million pantsuits, monkey seizures and prosecutions of rich kids.

Typical hopeless Iggles fan. Losing 23 straight NFC championship games and the occasional superbowl does not a great team make. Yeah, yeah, McNabb is great, Reid is a genius, Lurie is the best owner in the league. My buddy spouts on ad nauseum. Five superbowl wins...imagine that we would keep bringing that up! Not only have the Iggles never won one, they never will. They'll run out of Roman numerals before the Iggles win a superbowl. F the Iggles.

Has anyone heard any more news?

Rep. slammed as 'chickenBLEEP thief' for 'borrowing' Democrat's sign
06/25/2007 @ 11:03 am
Filed by RAW STORY
A Republican House member (pictured) was slammed by a Democratic colleague as a "chickenBLEEP thief" after borrowing one of his signs, a Capitol Hill newspaper reports.
"On Thursday, during House votes, a very angry Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) had some distinctly non-collegial words for Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas)," Emily Heil reports for Roll Call's "Heard on the Hill." "The words 'gutless,' 'chickens--t' and 'thief' were flung."
The paper reports, "Shuler, a former NFL quarterback, was spotted towering over a seated Gohmert, wagging a finger in his face during the heated session, spies tell HOH."
"Gohmert's crime?" Heil continues. "Shuler and his gang, the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats, say the Texas Republican pulled off a high-stakes heist."
Heil observes, "Next time Gohmert gets the urge to steal -- or borrow -- something, HOH humbly suggests he chooses a less physically intimidating target."
Excerpts from article:
Late Wednesday night, Gohmert was heading to the House floor to come to the aid of Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) as he discussed holding down federal spending. Gohmert, whose office is on the fifth floor of the Cannon House Office Building, passed the door to Shuler's office, located on the same floor, and apparently decided to make off with the sign perched on an easel outside the office, which was closed for the night.
The sign is one that all Blue Dogs post outside their offices; it changes daily and denotes the federal deficit as well as the average American's individual share thereof. Gohmert pinched the sign and then went down to the floor to rail about spending, taking a few jabs at the Democratic majority, of course, and using the purloined poster as a prop. "Frankly, I want one of these signs," he said. "I may have to change the name to the Blue Hound Dog Coalition or something."
....
Gohmert, though, denies it was stealing, since he did, after all, return the item. Borrowing is more like it, said his spokeswoman. ....And as for that confrontation on the House floor, Gohmert professes himself to be surprised. "Congressman Shuler is such a great guy, I feel sure he did not mean anything too personal," he said. "I know I did not go into his office; I know I did not steal anything; but I am still trying to discern if he might be right about my being chicken excrement."

SMACK,
We agree on one thing. F the Iggles.
Posted by: Stumped | June 25, 2007 07:11 PM
There's common ground, you just have to find it. I must admit, when the Skins play the Iggles, there's nowhere I'd rather be. Some incredible games.
I'm sure Nate will find an internet cafe in Marrakech or the summit of Mt Everest or wherever he is.
And Philly will never, ever, ever win a superbowl.
Posted by: SMACK | June 25, 2007 7:38 PM
Stumped - I haven't heard any more on the McCardell front since last week. From the sounds of thing the Skins and the Texans have offers on the table, and he's just weighing up his options. As much as I like the idea of grabbing him, I reckon he'll end up going to the Texans. It's where he lives, and there's probably more chance of decent playing time there. The only thing I think we could offer him, is more money, and a bigger chance at playoffs.
Posted by: kost52 | June 25, 2007 7:39 PM
kost, question for ya. Does that automated draft just happen like poof! and you have a team, or can you watch it unfold? I've never been in an automated draft. I usually like to screw it up myself.
I figure Portis for about 1350 and 9. You think Betts will siphon TDs off him? Can you trust Betts in the red zone?
Posted by: SMACK | June 25, 2007 7:44 PM
I'm not sure, I think it happens like poof! But Nate was talking the other day about trying to get a Live Draft going, once we get a full league we can throw up the option and try to work out a time that suits everyone.

Posted by: Redcoat | June 25, 2007 7:58 PM
As for Betts, I doubt he'll be getting the ball in the Red-Zone over Portis, but I think that with the Red-Zone struggles last season, they will be trying something different. Maybe they will give the ball to Sellars more often?
Posted by: kost52 | June 25, 2007 8:15 PM
Yeah, who's called Blaire?
Posted by: SMACK | June 25, 2007 8:16 PM

Sellers is the man in the Red Zone.
What were his touches/touchdown ratio back in '05? Wasn't it like 13 touches / 8 td's or something crazy like that.....?
Uh, can someone give him the ball in the red zone?

I'm gonna have to tell the folks at work that I need to be able to blog at a reasonable volume between 9-4 just to keep the pithy comments relevant. But here goes -- on the Moveable Type/Loseable Type/Breakable Type question, the software has a decent reputation in the business, but it clearly has a couple of significant issues in the WashPost implementation. The Double-move post is a fairly common problem; as was described above, you hit 'Submit', there's script on the page to package up your comment, submit it to the server, and refresh. There are a number of problems with the implementation. I would think that the next version will feature a fairly complete rewrite of this function.
The other problem is the occasional duplication of words around line breaks within comments. This one I don't get at all. Adding line breaks is a pretty well solved problem.
Jasno will claim that there's also a problem where all his words get scrambled. In the industry, this bug is known as PBCAK -- Problem Between Chair and Keyboard -- although in Jasno's case, I have a feeling that he's dictating to Rocco.

So -- back to blogging for a moment -- There are a couple of dozen blogging packages/services/apps out there. You have one basic choice to make; do you want to host the blog yourself, or just toss your thoughts up on the internet and let "them" worry about the hardware/software/infrastructure.
I used to use Userland Frontier/Manila/Radio, but switched over to blogger.com a couple of years ago. Blogger was then bought by Google, so now there's not much worry about it going away. Its chief advantage is that it's free, and really easy to set up.
Sorry, its TWO chief advantages are that it's free, really easy to set up, and you can email articles that get automatically posted.
Sorry, amongst its advantages are fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, and a fanatical devotion to the pope.

Couldn't you just get yourself a MySpace? That has blogging facilities?
Posted by: kost52 | June 25, 2007 10:37 PM
Oh, yes, I assume so, myspace always seemed like it was targeted at the kids. At the time I made my choice (such as it was), I'm not even sure myspace existed.
Maybe we should all wait for Diddy's new old thing?
Posted by: cload and daggar | June 25, 2007 11:24 PM
I suppose that would explain why I have a MySpace hahaha
Posted by: kost52 | June 25, 2007 11:27 PM

Posted by: cload and daggar | June 25, 2007 11:40 PM

I suppose it's also because I have a lot of friends who are in bands, and it's a good way to keep up with their gigs and stuff.

Hey Nate!
How are we going to get to 100K if you go on vacation? It's bad enough that Jasno and Cindy are gone at the same time. At the current rate, we will be lucky to get to 65K by Training Camp.
There isn't much going on anywhere in the rest of the NFL to post either, so I am instructing The Crickets to also post anything they find of unusual interest. I will caution them, however, regarding the posting of article links on banjos, skin cancer, and Movable Type.
Posted by: Ocho-Ocho | June 26, 2007 3:41 AM
I would be remiss if I did not mention that one of Nate's adopted sports teams, the Oregon State Beavers baseball team, won the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska this past weekend. The Beavers were defending champions as well, and have now won the World Series two years in a row. They are only the fifth team in history to accomplish that feat, and it is the first time for a school in the Pacific Northwest to do so.
Congratulations, Nate and the Oregon State Beavers!

Posted by: cload and daggar | June 26, 2007 8:56 AM
Good morning Mark. Thankyou for asking, but I haven;t talked to her about it - yet.
Mrs Redcoat is doing some voluntary stuff this week, and yesterday turned out to be pretty stressful due to some very high maintenance parents, so I spent the evening allowing her to vent about that.
It is still top of my list, I just wanted to give her a chance to talk about what she wanted first, and there went the evening!
I think we're going to have to make our own amusement on here today. I'll post as often as I can, but I just got a HUGE dollop of unscheduled work (dammit!) dropped on me that has to be completed by COB today, so I'm afraid I'll be a sporadic attendee at best.

did you guys hear about Tom Cruise being banned from germany (basically) cuz he's a scientologist?
well, you may ask how does that make it a skins news? (not that it matters) but since our wonderBoy is paying him $10 mil per, the money he's making off of us, it is skins news.
first he had to pay off nanny, then that girl got her legs amputated at six flags and now this!
speaking relatively this guy is soooooooo unlucky! whatever he touches turns to shti.
so i'm kinda scared to think what's going to happen with the skins this year.

Germany is a VERY anti-Scientology country.
They have lots of laws about what they describe as "pseudo-religions" and they won't have people in the country who support those things. They'll just end up shooting it in the Czech Republic or Austria anyway.

Posted by: Old School | June 26, 2007 9:15 AM
IMHO they are more sensitive because of the nazis, although they were never represented as a religion.
There is still a very strong religious (protestant) ethic in Germany, and although they are a secular country they are socialist in nature and therefore tend to 'regulate' life a little more than most places.
People there are happy to have the state intervene in parts of their life where it can (so they think) protect them from themselves a little, and they see Scientology in that light, I believe.
Posted by: Redcoat | June 26, 2007 9:25 AM
Wow, that was just about the most 'qualified' response I've ever seen. Sorry (I think). :-)
Posted by: Redcoat | June 26, 2007 9:26 AM
Redskins go 0-5 to open the season and Danny Boy brings in his top Tom Cruise to speak to the team. Cruise starts preaching about Scientology. Gibbs has a major cornery and lightening strikes Campbell. Greggy Williams is named acting head coach with Tom Cruise as spirtual advisor. Team mutinies against Greggy Boy and Tomkat and fails to show for last 4 games of season and the Deadskins finish 0-16 but Danny Boy is happy because they filed the film vault with enough material for America's Funniest Bloopers to last for centuries!

I ate some chicken last Fryday from that nice Colonel Al Saunders KFC. The man who served me had a jolly paper hat to keep the grease on his hair.
Yesterday at the hospital my frend vamurmur told me that he still has the mean voices in his head, but he only pees his pants sumtimes now.

So the NFL is thinking of tossing Europa.. about Freeking time. Football is a North American Sport. The AFL is lame because the have no running game. Other leagues still trying to get off the ground but I doubt they will stick arround. If we want a AAA version of the NFL we need to mirror Baseball, put teams in cities like Richmond, Trenton, Portland which can't support a pro team but are on the edge. Since most cant afford tickets to the NFL these days it would probably work better then germany.
