Afternoon Update

Jason just phoned this in from the afternoon practice. Both practices today were closed to the public.
The Redskins have cut reserve kicker Tyler Fredrickson, which means that Shaun Suisham and Derrick Frost are the only two kicker-types in camp. They signed tight end Jake Nordin from Northern Illinios.
Mike Sellers is back at practice and so is H.B. Blades. However, Marcus Washington was being rested. Mike Espy's left leg is wrapped and he was not practicing. We'll update that when we have some info.
LaRon Landry has just landed in the area and is meeting with his agent now. He hasn't been to the facility yet.

Tyler Ecker's injury must have caused quite a bit of concern?

And an "SJK" welcome to Gary Fitzgerald of Redskins.com. You state in your blog that your redskins.com training camp practice blog is not going to "soft pedal" biased reporting toward the redskins. But are you going to be sour "SJK" apples about Jason LaCanfora's "Inside the Redskin's" blog? Dude, get a life. You don't need to piss on a rope down on this blog to make yours look good. Tend to your own garden, keep your own bees, keep your eye on the ball being pitched to you.

Cindy - Does Kornheiser even work anymore? He hasn't been on Pardon the Interruption for weeks. Show sucks with the likes of Bob Ryan and Dan Lebatard.

Posted by: cdubb | July 30, 2007 5:36 PM

Horrors! Comcast just reported that Chris Samuels was carted off the field.

Posted by: Lisa | July 30, 2007 5:48 PM

CDubb - He had to take a vacation and is now practicing for MNF. He's bigger than what he used to be........

KK -

"LMGO.

OK, Exclude Belicheck. But what about Crennel, Weis and all the others who coached in NY back in the 80s (Coughlin and Petrino as well as others)?

can anybody confirm the Samules injury????

Posted by: SeanTay77 | July 30, 2007 5:52 PM

Chris Samuels was just carted off the practice field. I didn't see the play he was hurt on. The early word is that he's okay, but there'll be an update after practice.

Okay.
Okay, as in he's alive?
Okay, as in we're in to excessive drama and precautions?

Posted by: Stumped | July 30, 2007 5:59 PM

Thanks 4th. This Samuels thing better not be serious. That will ruin the season before it gets started.

Posted by: cdubb | July 30, 2007 6:00 PM

Don't look up!

Posted by: Chicken Little | July 30, 2007 6:03 PM

Man, an injury to Samuels, or anyone on the line for that matter, would really be a blow. Our lack of depth really concerns me. Please be okay.

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | July 30, 2007 6:05 PM

I can not work/concentrate under these conditions!

6:15 p.m. ET
Practice ended at about 5:50 p.m. ET and there was a mad scramble for interviews.

Joe Gibbs said he thinks Chris Samuels suffered a knee sprain during practice, but he emphasized that it's best to wait for the official word from the athletic trainers.

Gibbs also said that Mike Espy has a bruised knee.

Posted by: Anonymous | July 30, 2007 6:19 PM

i think im gonna be sick

Posted by: SeanTay77 | July 30, 2007 6:25 PM

Ah good - "knee sprain" usually just means a cartilage tear. Scope his knee later in the week or next week, and he will be ready for the regular season, good as new.

It's gonna be a long 40 days of worry until the opener that no major piece of our team goes down.

Posted by: Anonymous | July 30, 2007 6:36 PM

anon,
You got that right.

After 40 days things will really get messy.

Posted by: Stumped | July 30, 2007 7:00 PM

on redskins.com joe gibbs just said the landrys flight was delayd

Posted by: kirubel94 | July 30, 2007 7:02 PM

I guess flying is a living HeSJK for all of us that don't have a private jet.

They probably bought a coach ticket for the $41M man. Where is Danny#1?

Posted by: Stumped | July 30, 2007 7:07 PM

but in here it say the plane or jet landed

Posted by: kirubel94 | July 30, 2007 7:23 PM

Let's not panic!!! If there's not structural damage...sit him for as long as you need to. Step away from the ledge people!!!

I really don't want to get my hopes up, but I love the fact that the Skins are under the radar. NO BODY is picking them to do anyting but finish last. I think this matches Gibbs' coaching style. Here are the keys to the season.

1) Running game
2) Agressiveness on Defense
3) Health
4) THE RUNNING GAME!!!

Posted by: sicwidit | July 30, 2007 7:30 PM

What amazes me is how quickly everyone writes them off after a bad, injury plagued season.

"What amazes me is how quickly everyone writes them off after a bad, injury plagued season."

Samuels is their top OT. The left tackle. Pro Bowler. If he gets hurt it could significantly affect the offense. He's out for a month. That can't be good. Wade probably moves in. Unless he moves to the other tackle position and Jansen moves over. There is some guy in camp named Calvin Armstrong. If Wade goes back to tackle who plays guard? They really don't have the kind of quality depth that used to be their trademark during the super bowl years.

All they need now is for Campbell to go down. Its definitely an auspicious start.
