Landry Agrred To Terms

First round pick LaRon Landry agreed to terms on a 5 year contract around 1 am and is expeted here by the second practice today. I finally went to bed around 12:30 knowing I had to be out of the house at 7 to get to practice this morning, otherwise I could have had this up last night. Oh well, I stink. What more can I say.

Anyway, it's all over now and I have a feeling LaRon got himself a very competitive deal. Will post all of the details later as I get them.

Cheers.

I can't be first.

Good news though.

Posted by: charlie | July 30, 2007 7:07 AM

Finally...I'll be interested in seeing what the terms of the contract are and what reaction Sean Taylor has to them...

Posted by: Rob | July 30, 2007 7:13 AM

So what is the official name of the most feared defensive backfield in the NFL?

Posted by: Zebra | July 30, 2007 7:14 AM

Great to see him under contract - wonder what effect seeing those numbers will have on Sean Taylor :-) Hopefully ST goes out and tries to prove he is a better player that Landry and his play on the field demands he gets a deal to reflect that.

Judging by some of the reports I have read on Camp thus far the secondary has been struggling a bit - though it is very early days. Getting Landry on teh field has to help. Hopefully Landry gets on the field and locks down the SS spot and starts earning some of that signing bonus.

Good news.

great to see landry sign and cant wait to see him practice

Posted by: dave | July 30, 2007 7:21 AM

Great to see L2 will be in camp today. Yeah JLC you stink! Just joking my friend. You do a great job.

Posted by: jm220 | July 30, 2007 7:28 AM

Yeah;

What is up with the hacks yesterday calling out JLA?

These clowns post things that make no sense, just talking SMACK, and expect people on the blog to agree?

I guess I just dont get the jollys some people get by bringing incorrect arguments, speculation and utter non-sense to a blog. I like discussion, opinions, facts, predictions... guess it just me.

Posted by: Zebra | July 30, 2007 7:33 AM

ESPN:

The five-year contract has a maximum value of $41.5 million and it includes $17.5 million in guarantees.

Where's that clown? Did someone cap him?

Posted by: bangkokben | July 30, 2007 7:54 AM

Capclown especially,

"Peterson just signed - and he broke the bank doing it. Average/year higher than LT. Good luck to the Skins fitting Landry in under the cap."

Does he not understand that Landry plays a DIFFERENT POSITION? Petersons deal has little to do with Landrys.

Clown

Posted by: Zebra | July 30, 2007 7:58 AM

For all the griping we do about our front office, how about those Bills? Kelly Holcomb and Takeo Spikes to the Eagles for now what looks like a conditional 5th round pick from the Bears.

Posted by: bangkokben | July 30, 2007 7:59 AM

Oh, and JLA;

"Landry Agrred To Terms", I love the lack of spelling prowess...

Posted by: Zebra | July 30, 2007 8:00 AM

I think we need to stop worrying about what Taylor thinks. He'll get his mega-deal eventually, and in the meantime he's certainly not going hungry.

Posted by: www.RedskinsWarpath.com | July 30, 2007 8:26 AM

Well, it looks like Darnerien McCants' massively awaited R&B vocal debut at Blues Alley has been cancelled. I think he needed some more Redskins Insider love.

Posted by: Louis The Rogue | July 30, 2007 8:31 AM

this is what rotoworld said

Redskins signed first-round S LaRon Landry to a five-year, $41.5 million contract. The deal includes $17.5 million in guarantees, according to ESPN.
While Pierson Prioleau took reps as Washington's first-team strong safety on the first day of training camp, Landry will almost certainly overtake him before the season. Every physical tool Landry has is impressive. He is worth grabbing in IDP leagues as a DB2 or DB3.

Sorry guys, just caught up after a weekend away from the blog.

Good news about Landry, now you can get on with preparing to get spanked by Miami in the first game! I look forward to seeing LL and ST colliding in midfield as they try to catch Chris (DUI) Chambers. :-)

Dealer, yes I'm a Brit. I'm a Fins fan because Super Bowl XIX was the first shown live on UK TV and I decided to support Miami during the pre-game show (I'm a big Marino fan). Suffice to say, we got stuffed by Joe Montana and I decided I should stay loyal to Miami - bad move on my part but I can't change now, can I?

I have no idea what's going on with that course on Waxpool; they've been building it since I moved here and it seems to go quick-slow all the time, it's in a slow period again now. Maybe they're trying to wait until things speed up in the local economy again before opening so that they can skin people for membership?

Can someone tell me, is it called Sports Bog on purpose???

Posted by: kost52 | July 30, 2007 8:42 AM

Why won't landry be at the first practice? What did he do, go home to Louisiana?

Posted by: Uncle Spence | July 30, 2007 8:43 AM

I've got to say that while I sympathise with taking little ones all that way for nothing, that was pretty nasty storm in Ashburn yesterday afternoon - you wouldn't send a dog out in that weather.

And once it started there was never really a time when it would have been safe to go back out.

Posted by: Redcoat | July 30, 2007 8:44 AM

I think it is kost, I dont know what it means either... I have always wondered...

Posted by: Zebra | July 30, 2007 8:45 AM

Kost, you still here again? I saw your message on rugby the other day; you're right, we should switch me to rugby 'guru' and give futbol to SMACK.

That leaves you with town drunk/aussie rules - a perfect combo!

I'll inform the authorities - Nate?

Posted by: Redcoat | July 30, 2007 8:47 AM

Landry's deal is bigger than Peterson's deal. Regardless of position, it looks like it had some effect on Landry's contract.

Posted by: Artichoke Guy | July 30, 2007 8:47 AM

Because over here, a bog is well.....number 2's

Posted by: kost52 | July 30, 2007 8:47 AM

Landry has to go to the bank first this morning, so he can't make it to practice. He has to make a small deposit.

Posted by: Anonymous | July 30, 2007 8:49 AM

Redcoat - Yeah, I'll stick to the drinking and Aussie Rules. Did you get my email re: New league?

Posted by: kost52 | July 30, 2007 8:50 AM

I dont remember the origin of the "bog", but check the archives. I think John Thompson or someone referred to a blog as a "bog" and it stuck...

Posted by: Jack Kent Cooke | July 30, 2007 8:51 AM

Now that Ginn has signed for Miami, I'm thinking that if Redskins kick off in the September game there's a good chance that Ginn catches it and runs it back straight at LL and maybe the Reaper too?

If that's so I'm glad he bought his house straight away; he might have a REALLY short NFL career - maybe even shorter than his participation in the BCS championship game!
I'm nopt sure I run the ball back at those two even for $13M in guaranteed money. :-)

Posted by: Redcoat | July 30, 2007 8:51 AM

Kost, got it and signed up. I changed the team name though to be a little kinder to the Skins.

I thought you called it (the bog) a dunny?

Posted by: Redcoat | July 30, 2007 8:53 AM

Right, so it's like "Jasno"

Posted by: kost52 | July 30, 2007 8:53 AM

I guess that's probably just short for bogger, the place to go for one.

Lovely conversation topic for you guys on a Monday morning! Sorry!

Posted by: kost52 | July 30, 2007 8:56 AM

Remember the importance of atonement, esp. how Pacman Jones explained he was going back to WVU to finish his education and get his degree?

Posted by: dcsween | July 30, 2007 9:10 AM

I never questioned the term "bog". I assumed it was named intentionally because DC was built a drained swamp, and a bog is like swamp. From wiki: "A bog is a wetland type that accumulates acidic peat, a deposit of dead plant material."

Posted by: Mark (in 21132) | July 30, 2007 9:10 AM

I tried to do a hyperlink but its seems the blogfilter removed it.

Pacman Jones is going to be a professional wrestler.

Is it me, or is the way they intend to use Landry the way that Arch Deluxe should have been used? If so, they would they be better keeping Arch and drafting a lineman or trading for one?

Posted by: Jake | July 30, 2007 9:21 AM

You're joking, right, Jake? There is no circumstance in which keeping Archuleta would have been better than drafting LaRon. I don't mean to jump on ya, dude, but did you watch Archuleta play last year?

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | July 30, 2007 9:25 AM

Reaching under the desk pulling out the hammer. Step to the side Nate. Jake double smack to the back of your damn head. WTF!! (SJK) Keep Archuleta! What are you smoking over there?

Posted by: jm220 | July 30, 2007 9:28 AM

Arch was not coming back here. He was chastised and benched. End of story. Lets stop living in the past.

Posted by: kost52 | July 30, 2007 9:33 AM

The Chicago game in December will be a perfect chance for you guys to avenge yourselves on Mr "biggest safety contract in history".

If he's the chump you think he is, Saunders will victimise him all afternoon. If he's not, then you know that man-boobs was at fault all along for last season.

Posted by: Redcoat | July 30, 2007 9:37 AM

I agrre Redcoat.

Posted by: kost52 | July 30, 2007 9:38 AM

Redcoat, I'm emotionally prepared to see Pro Bowl, career-best seasons for Archuleta, Holdman and Duckett. That's just par for the course up here.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | July 30, 2007 9:39 AM

I guess it's not nice to lump poor Duckett in with those stiffs, but in each case the dude was a nonfactor for us last season -- didn't get a chance, wasn't used right or plain didn't deliver.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | July 30, 2007 9:42 AM

Nate,

Don't forget Kenny Wright and Speed Rumph

Posted by: bangkokben | July 30, 2007 9:42 AM

Nice spelling observation Kost! Is this the official RI spelling for agrre now?

Nate, be positive - at least until you have reason to be otherwise. There must be someone who the Redskins discarded recently who continued to stink elsewhere? And by the way, can Kost and I change our assignments as listed above please Sir?

Posted by: Redcoat | July 30, 2007 9:42 AM

Yes, please leave Duckett alone....last season was not his fault and he was a stand up guy about it.

Posted by: Lisa | July 30, 2007 9:44 AM

...That, of course, presumes that Archubingus rediscovers the fact that the right hand is on the right, and his left hand is on the left, and somehow manages to break into the starting secondary with Deh Berrsh. I find myself unable to think that would happen. My flabber would be ghasted if he did.

Posted by: FlimFlam | July 30, 2007 9:44 AM

Lisa, I had second thoughts about the Duckett mention immediately. Whoops. In his case, I'm actually rooting for the guy to have a great season, since we completely wasted his 2006, and he seems like a hell of a guy.

Bears noting that Arch Deluxe was a stand-up guy as well, handled the whole situation last season better than any of us would have, but the fact of the matter was that he sucked.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | July 30, 2007 9:52 AM

Great News!!! I was at training camp friday.... either our wide receivers are not getting too good or our secondary already is looking like night and day compared to last year.... we could go from one of the worst to one of the best defensive backfield this year!!! Go skins!!!

Posted by: bethesdaboy | July 30, 2007 9:55 AM

I took a look at Chicago. It looks like Archudoneyet is close to starting SS right now, at least until Mike Brown proves he's fully recovered, which won't be easy with his record of injuries.

Posted by: Redcoat | July 30, 2007 9:57 AM

The exception to my well wishes for Duckett, of course, is the week five game at FedEx.

Regardless of where he is on the depth chart, I hope he stays on the bench because the Lions never have a short-yardage situation and never make it near our goal line.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | July 30, 2007 9:58 AM

PDX, Arch may or my not have handled the situation as best as possible year. It was reported that he MAY have been the unnamed source that buried Greg Williams last year.

Posted by: Matt | July 30, 2007 9:59 AM

Redcoat, if the weather has cleared up you should ambulate over to the Park to bask in the glory of the burgundy and gold.

Nate, the weather in Ashburn sucks right now with more storms expected today according to Mrs. Redcoat. And I'm at our office in 'sunny' Columbia, MD today anyway! I have a one day in and out trip to NY tomorrow, but will try to get over to Redskins Park later this week maybe, do I just follow the sound of the grunting to find it?

Change allegiance? What respect could you ever have for me if I did that?

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | July 30, 2007 10:11 AM

I don't think the Tom Friend article really 'buried' Grilliams. Seemed like more of a rip on Steve Jackson and Jerry Gray.

I went over to the ES site b/c they have photos and to see what the fans who went to the camp thought. Seems like there are plenty of arms to throw around to all of the receivers. Lots of remarks about good catches and plays by Blloyd and Todd Yoder. Also good stuff about the other TE, Eric Edwards. My sense is that the TE position (that soft center middle of the D) is going to be exploited in the passing game more this year. Very pleased that the Skins recognized that problem waiting to happen by upgrading at MLB and safety.

Personal observation from the photos (compared to last year) -- LOTS more guys have shaved their heads. Not sure what that means, but everyone looks real serious. Also, every time I see Don Breaux, I have to giggle. With his posture and gardening hat, he literally looks like my late grandmother (w/o the apron and dress from the "old country").

Landry is to Archuletta as a grown man is to a 10 year old boy. Have you seen the clips of receivers and even tight ends pulling away from Arch and his stubby little legs? Landry will be chasing those guys down like dinner.

Posted by: stick75 | July 30, 2007 10:37 AM

Landry will be chasing those guys down like dinner.

here's hoping that he won't be chasing ANYONE. i don't want my safeties chasing. i want receivers chasing my safeties cuz the safety read the play, didn't BITE and just knocked the shti out of the receiver and the ball blew out of his hands. and the reaper's got it. and they're flying down the sidelines in the opposite direction with the whole team chasing them.

that's what i expect these two to do. if they don't. i'm personally gonna hunt down ArtMonkToTheSticks!

Is it me, or do the Skins pick up on things way after the fact?

For example, they have just decided NOW to give Mike Sellers more touches. Yes, this is great news for Mike, as well as the fans, but can you imagine how great of a decision that would have been LAST YEAR... before we traded 2 mid-round picks for a back we never used?

I could obviously go on and on but will spare you all today.

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | July 30, 2007 10:52 AM

thanks ricky!

Posted by: dealer | July 30, 2007 10:55 AM

Ricky Bobby - I think Sellers didn't get many touches last year b/c the coaches wanted full protection for the gimpy Brunell. At least that was my take on it but I am glad to hear Sellers will be utilized more like he was in 2005.

Posted by: CC | July 30, 2007 10:56 AM

Ricky Bobby, you made me spill my macchiato! One of my worst nightmares about last season was the non-use of Mike Sellers, esp. as the Portis dog sled for a guaranteed six yards. And I also blame the non-production in the Red Zone on not using Sellers. The previous season it was like Sellers (and Robert Royal) owned the Red Zone.

Posted by: dcsween | July 30, 2007 10:56 AM

Now that Landry is signed, do they need to cut someone to maintain a roster number? Or are the draftees already figured into the roster number (and assumed signed when they go out and hire up to the number). Seems like every recent signing so far has been accompanied by an "unsigning" of someone on the roster.

Posted by: dcsween | July 30, 2007 11:00 AM

Stick75 - I can't find the exact details but I believe ST's rookie cotnract was circa 6 yrs/$17 million, and yes he was 5th overall

Posted by: LMG | July 30, 2007 11:02 AM

I thought it was already determined that Archibingus was the main source of that article and was deep cover?

Posted by: 4th | July 30, 2007 11:02 AM

Yeah Landry is signed! Now all we have to do is rev the hamster engines up for the inevitable QB controversy that will somehow get started somewhere by someone in Redskin Naiton.

Remember Archuleta is playing on Sexy Rexy's team so even if he has a "banner" year Sexy will find a way to blow it.

Unless of course someone calls him everyday and reminds him he is a QB on an NFL team which means he's supposed to play hard every time.

Posted by: sfskin | July 30, 2007 11:03 AM

there is not a big enough hammer to cure anyone wanting to keep archuleta. bout time landry inked up that contract. even though some of the news has been lacking so far, don't buy into the stinking JLC.

BTW anyone read Pretty Boy's "journal"? It'll make you throw up in your mouth just a little bit. I'm echo the sentiment - thrilled he has to play his way to #2. ARE may not be a legit #2 WR but at least he played every down even if it meant running the wrong way on too many returns.

Wasn't it possible the max of his deal could be worth in the neighborhood of 40M with all the incentives/escalators in it. Not sure what they were and if he is meeting any of them.

Posted by: cdubb | July 30, 2007 11:07 AM

sween,

Exactly. The dude had like 7 TD's in '05 and was obviously instrumental in CP's 5/6 straight 100 yard games as we made our playoff push at the end of that season.

Then in the preseason last year, they gave him like 3/4 consecutive carries (against the Jets maybe?) in which he bull rushed for about 28 yards.

But then they go out and get Duckett with Betts and Caveman AND Rock waiting for their chance??? I guess I understand a desire for better pass protection for Boonell, but injuries happen and you simply cannot mortgage the future like they did when you have 3 capable guys waiting in the wings.

It's the decisions like these that will drive you crazy as a Skins fan... and they seem to happen multiple times a year. See Howard's article on Lloyd if you're looking for another example.

But the football is always so pretty to watch! And then of course there's the obligatory split in th ecamp during any tournament.

But then who am I to speak about underachievement as an England supporter!

Posted by: Redcoat | July 30, 2007 11:10 AM

I wonder if it's even possible to tie Landry to a goalpost? I guess it might help if the Reaper spits in his face but other than that I don't see another player able to out muscle him...

Posted by: CC | July 30, 2007 11:10 AM

sween - it's my "summer vacation" - two months ago I had elaborate plans each of which fell through one by one by one.

So in a last minute whirl I decided to head east for "home" see friends, get out of town, get away from my family and sweat.

I'm sure I'll lose fan points for this but not really interested in going to TC unless it was in company of other crazies. Now if TC were in say Alaska I might consider it. . .I was gonna say Montana but it's 99 degrees up there too.

Thanks to the wonder of the tubes of the internets I can get a great idea of what is happening at TC without leaving the comfort of my chair.

Posted by: Redcoat | July 30, 2007 11:14 AM

Ricky Bobby, though I like Duckett (from his college career at MSU ... woo hoo MSU!), improving pass protection cannot explain why they brought him here. [Other than Portis, no one levels blitzers like Sellers.] I'm not sure what they were thinking about the trajectory of Duckett's career, esp. where he had been Warrick Dunn's #2 AND the Falcons went out to draft Jerious Norwood with their second pick (which was in the third round) in the previous draft. I wish for all the best for Duckett (folks here know about and poo poo my predictions for the Lions this season), but I still for the life of my can't see that signing as anything other than a panic move by a panicked team.

Posted by: dcsween | July 30, 2007 11:14 AM

Lisa - just a nickname. I don't remember who first used it up here on the blog but I thought it appropriate.
I definitley don't think he's sexy. If I did it would have evaporated after the post season performances he put on (except v. NOLA).

Can't remember who said it many posts ago but I think the theory that too many people in the organization bought into the "anything less than an SB would be a disappointment" mentality last year is a pretty good theory.

I know we've used this analogy and it's political but it seems apt. Last season was like our clusterSJK in Iraq. It's fine just need to tweak here there and we're good in fact we're great. How could we not be blowing teams out of the water?

Difference - I believe the Skins are doing more than "a surge" and atttitudes are way different and this season they're going to go in and play like underdogs with something to prove.

Redcoat - no rain in SF in the summer. Just plenty o'fog that can get very wet on occaison.
We're actually suffering low percpitation problems too. Thus the fires all over the place.

Glad to have Laundry on board. Wouldn't expect him to be a starter, just yet. PP is a pretty good safety and if not for his injury last season - our defense would have been much better. LL will have to earn his spot. As far as those "big hits" everyone keeps posting about. I want to see some before I believe. LL was a good college player but the NFL and Redskins are a whole new ballgame. Earn it LL, I give you nothing but a good resume. Just like Heath Schuler and a few other high profile flops. Earn it.

Another thing I found on the intergoogles this AM is that Randy Thomas got a cortisone shot to his knee yesterday and is out for at least 4-5 days. I REALLY hope they are working in as much of the O-line depth with the first teamers as possible. [Shout out to MSU alum, Will Whitticker, who has dropped something like 20 pounds and is in for Thomas during this time.]

sfskin, I dunno if you're a foodie, but I remember that you have some Chilean in your DNA, so if you are looking for good eats (and great wine) in the city, I recommend a place on the eastern edge of Lincoln Park called the Park Cafe. [About six blocks from RFK.] The owner is Chilean and chatty, and sort of a wine collector (which means if you chat him up, he brings good buzz). Also food and atmosphere is great (and size is small, maybe 8 tables).

It's just absolutely baffling to me how this team is no further along than they were before Gibbs returned. Spurrier's final season = 5-11. Gibbs' 3rd year = 5-11. Mind boggling.

To this day, I still look to last year's offseason as the most destructive in Skins history. From 6-10 in '04 to 10-6 and the playoffs in '05, we had so much momentum going into '06... and instead of building on that, we changed everything, including the offense on a win-now team with a win- now QB. We also made another slew of horrifying (is there a descriptive word worse than horrifying out there?) personnel moves, which included refusal to re-sign your core/non flashy guys and instead signed the biggest crop of free agent busts EVER (worse than Deion's year IMO).

I know you all probably get sick of my negativity (I call it realism, but anyway...), but I just can't get over how much different it could have been...

you guys still talking about Archuleta??? Who cares he is gone... thats the past... it cost snyder money but by next year he wont cont on the salary cap... My problem is Brandon LLoyd... i was at ashburn Friday... not only was he wearing buddy shorts like a you know what, he was running at 75%... He really looks like he just does not give a damm about football....

Ah wet fog.... ...that reminds me of dear old Blighty! There's nothing like being in Britain during a good old "pea souper".

Waxes lyrical (boringly) for hours about the qualities of a 'temperate' (very wet) climate...

It's funny, every time I've been to SFO it was sunny and warm, but everyone else I know who's been there says "chilly and foggy". I guess you never can tell. Or maybe after all those years in England anywhere else seems warm!

RB - Don't forget, injuries killed us last year.

Posted by: CC | July 30, 2007 11:27 AM

Speaking of ArtMonkToTheSticks, I have been remiss in mentioning up here that I had a fantastic dinner with the man himself last week in the NYC. Thereby wrapping up my offseason of guerilla team-building efforts.

AMTTS is even funnier in person than he is up here, which is to say very funny indeed.
He is very, very nervous about the Skins' season, as he's mentioned up here, but he says that's how he gets at this time every year.

Be strong, brother.

No way to get back to Ashburn before start of season Nate? I know that Nate/Mrs Nate Pt II is due (soon?) but couldn't you tell Mrs Natethat you forgot the cat when you moved or something?

Posted by: Redcoat | July 30, 2007 11:32 AM

Here is something I've been pondering that can fill space and time and posts between TC stuff.

Can't remember who but someone many threads ago talked about how the game may be moving towards teams needing two solid QBs at starter and backup what with injuries, concussions, off field shenanigans etc.

So who are the starters + back-ups this season? Any team have a real one two punch? And does this in fact seem necessary?

Posted by: sfskin | July 30, 2007 11:32 AM

Ricky Bobby, you too need to buck up, pal! We haven't lost a single game yet in '07! We're undefeated! Hope springs eternal! Keep on the sunny side! Look for the silver lining! And so forth.

Ahem. Yeah, I know, it's hard to have faith when you've been burned so often, and so badly. But here we are again. Might as well enjoy the ride.

Perhaps sfskin can confirm as our authority on all things 'English', but the only suitable word that occurs to me is 'flustercuck' - SJK.

New post.

'Coat, after my horrendous trip home from NYC (two cancelled flights, got home on Saturday afternoon instead of Friday night) I will be on travel lockdown for a while. A couple of short trips east before the new baby is due in November, that will be all.

Sadly, probably won't be able to make it to Ashburn any time soon. Thinking longer-term, it's never too early to start thinking of the 2008 OBA's (offseason blog activities)...

bethesda,

I hope I'm dead wrong here, but I think Lloyd is already a lost cause. Yes, he gained some muscle, and yes he's saying all the right things right now, but does anyone here honestly think he's going to enjoy sitting behind ARE as the 3rd WR and 4th option (behind Cooley as well)? Do you think he's going to sit quietly after 3 catches in week 1 and 2 in week 2? Of course not, because past behavior is the true indicator of future behavior.

The worst thing about Lloyd is that everyone in the league but us knew he was a thug. Or maybe we knew he was a thug, but thought we could change him? Nevertheless, a move like this, on a Gibbs team, absolutely baffles me like none other. Doesn't Gibbs stress team and character guys? All he had to do was check with any NFL person out there and he would have realized that Lloyd is not anything close to your definition of a "true Redskin".

What baffles me even more than that was the Skins decision to throw 30 mill at him(with 10 mill to sign), plus 2 mid round picks to SF when they simply didn't have to. At the time of the trade, Lloyd had another year left on his deal and we realistically didn't have to give him another dime. In that case, we could have been rid of the guy after the debacle last year. Moreover, the guy had never had a 1,000 yard, 10 TD season like most 30/10 mill guys have had. He had never even seen 800 yards.

Oh, and did I mention that Joe Gibbs prefers to run the ball and we had also just signed ARE.

For the life of me I still cannot figure out what they were thinking there. Even the dumbest of football fans, let alone a group of "professional" football "experts", could have seen this coming.

I know I need to get over these things, but those decisions were so unbelievably bad that they will literally haunt my football life for years.

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | July 30, 2007 11:38 AM

Ricky Bobby, last was a disaster... but is was last year. Training camp is a time for optimism. In 2005, the skins went 5-1 in the East. Last year, 1-5. If they fix that problem (and I believe they can), the skins will be fine.
Giants are in disarray after losing Tiki, Petitigout, and possibly Strahan.
Cowboys have Wade Philips running things... might as well be Norv Turner, they're done!
Eagles are always competitve, but without a healthy McNabb (see Daunte Culpepper) they will not be force either.
GO SKINS!

From Gary Fitzgerald and Redskins.com

""11:35 p.m. ET

Back for Monday. Two practices today--the first one just ended. I caught the latter part of the morning practice, and I'll post some highlights shortly. I'll be back later for the afternoon practice.

So here's the deal with the blog. I am not reporting on every single play that occurs during practice. Too much happens, and it takes a few minutes to update the site during practice.

Hey, I do the best I can.

Chris Cooley has had a few dropped passes, as have quite a few other receivers. He has also snared a few passes, mostly in routine plays that weren't blog-worthy.

Cooley is having a fine camp.

I am reporting on what I see, as quickly as possible, but I'm also trying to avoid reporting on the minutiae or the routine. There's no agenda to sugarcoat this blog, as was suggested on a Redskins message board.

I am not going to blog about formations or where players line up on a specific play. I'm not going to detail Al Saunders' pass routes.

Who told me to do this? Joe Gibbs himself.

As they say in the NFL, this blog "is what it is."

Enjoy. ""

dc, man does this take me back. i lived on both sides of Lincoln Park in three different houses/apartments. one on Kentucky, one on Tennessee, and one on 12th and East Capitol
weren't many businesses in that neighborhood then, with the exception of the People's Drug on 11th and East Capitol. is it still there?
this feels just like one of those flash backs the gov't promised us so many beers ago.

Nope. There is a little corner grocery there now though.

[and I think People's Drug became Rite-Aid, which then became CVS.]

Posted by: dcsween | July 30, 2007 1:51 PM

C'mon Ricky Bobby...you can't live in the past dude. All teams make mistakes and I will admit that we've made more than our share, but what you're talkin' is stupid!!! I can see your ranting months ago after the season, but this is a new season. If the Skins are ever winners, I will specifically look for your post to see what seat you're riding on the bandwagon.

Posted by: sicwidit | July 30, 2007 1:59 PM

Wow! It will be intersting to see the first time a team trys to pass over the top
and run into Tayor or landry, or even taking a hit from both at the same
time. THEY SHOULD SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON JACK UP

Small point of order for Redcoat. I am also a Brit and the first Super Bowl shown in the UK live was actually the Redskins/Dolphins in '82. I can understand why a Dolphins fan might overlook that though :-)

Bet your looking forward the Wembley game. I have my ticket and am hoping you guys spank the Giants!
