Report from the Field
Jason phones this in:
It's early in practice, but at the moment Stephon Heyer, an undrafted lineman out of Maryland, is at left tackle with the first-team offensive line and Todd Wade is at left guard.
Randy Thomas is in full pads and is going full speed.
That's it for now.

How quickly we forget....
3:55 p.m. ET
Redskins great Gary Clark is visiting training camp. He walked by a group of fans, unrecognized, until a young man approached and asked him to sign his shirt.

Stephon Heyer? Really? Fabini, we hardly knew ye.
Posted by: dcsween | July 31, 2007 4:59 PM
Good news on Randy Thomas. It will be interesting to see how Heyer does.
Posted by: TB | July 31, 2007 5:00 PM
Heyer - 6'6" 320 pounds.
Gary Fitz says the team is in full pads.

Can you all please just STOP with the "first" thing? It's simply juvenile.

Samuels, by the way, just made an appearance at practice. He started out watching practice from afar, beside the Redskins.com TV tent. He is still wearing a brace on his right knee.
Samuels then joined his teammates

what the intergoogles tell us about our man, Stephon Heyer (from nfldraftcountdown.com):
Strengths:
Has great size and a big frame with extremely long arms...Very strong...Once he locks on the battle is over...Effective as both a pass and run blocker...Has great hands and a terrific initial punch...Moves well in a phone booth...Nice awareness.
Weaknesses:
Is not a great athlete and has poor balance...He will play too tall and as a result loses leverage...Doesn't have real quick feet...Has trouble with speedy edge pass rusher...Work ethic has been questioned...Has some durability / health concerns.
Notes:
Name is pronounced "STEFF-ahn HIGH-err"...Missed the entire 2005 season after tearing his ACL...Wears a size-22 sneaker off the field but likes to squeeze into an 18 cleat on game days...Atlanta Falcons helped him find proper-fitting cleats in high school...Solid prospect who can contribute providing he remains injury free.

Joe Jacoby undrafted. 6'6" 310 lbs. Molded by Buges.
Stephon Heyer undrafted. 6'6" 320 lbs. Molded by Buges.
I'm just sayin'...

"Wears a size-22 sneaker off the field but likes to squeeze into an 18 cleat on game days"
That could explain the poor balance?? Someone get that boy some shoes that fit!

sween--
What does it mean to say that he "Moves well in a phone booth"? Did you make that up? When is the last time anyone was even in a phone booth, 1996? Superman now has to change in third stall in the men's room.
Or is this some sort of football lingo that I just don't understand? Say, the slot between the tackle and the guard?

Cliff- He was actually 6'7" when he started out. He's 6'6" now. Tough game.
Posted by: 4-12 | July 31, 2007 5:31 PM
"phone booth" = moves well in confined spaces, generally referring to blocking in the inside running game. the opposite is moving well in the open field (e.g., blocking on sweeps or pulling).
Posted by: CMoney | July 31, 2007 5:33 PM
"Moves well in a phone booth" means he's got good footwork in pass protection, but isn't someone you're going to pull on a sweep.

Thats what I get for trying to be a smarta$$. I award myself no points.

Eagles - half of Philly HATES mcnabb, a bad game or two early and he could collapse.
thats not true - the philly media rips mcnabb and makes it sound like the fans. and dont go to the "booing at the draft BS" -
if he collapses, its ok. they still have a qb that has lead them to the playoffs before. there really isnt anything to worry about if you are an eagles fan, except the nfc championship game (we just cant get past that)
Posted by: mick | July 31, 2007 5:40 PM
F (SJK) the eagles.
We'll go 1:1 against them and win NFC East.

Did I mention we would clinch the title after beating Dallas (for the second time) in overtime?
The eagles will be 3st. The Cowpokes will be 2rd.
(wake up, what was in that Kool-aid?)

'The Cowpokes will be 2rd.'
Stumped- Is that pronounced "TURD"?

I know plenty of guys in Philly and yes most of them do have harsh things to say about McNabb especially after he cried when they drafted Corn on the Kolb. If he goes down this year it will be his last year in Philly.
Make sure you guys keep cleaning the empty SB trophy case. You may end up with it one day.....when the Eagles franchise moves to Mark Cuban's league.
Posted by: TB | July 31, 2007 5:58 PM
Because if it is, I nominate the 'pokes to be "2rd" every season.
Posted by: 4-12 | July 31, 2007 5:58 PM
Nicely translated, now please (SJK).
This is very similar to the name of my Fantasy Team - The U-bend Blockers.
See the Urban Dictionary for a definition.

Ay yo, mad love for my boy Stephon. He gotta run up his kick game if he wearing sizes too small? Give me a call if yuo reading this. Any Clemson girls in here?
Posted by: Tiffles | July 31, 2007 6:06 PM
I propose a blaw:
Meast be stricken from the record.
We already discussed that "Meast" sounds something that needs a good dose of antibiotics. There are just too many nasty ways to go with it... a solid tackle by the Reaper would be a "Meast Infection," etc.
More to the point, we need to come up with a pair of nicknames with L2 joining the Reaper in the backfield...something along the lines of "Thunder and Lightning"... that reflects the 1-2 punch in the secondary.
Can you imagine coming over the middle and having L2 set you up for a de-cleater by the Reaper?
Perhaps we can call them "Shock and Awe."

Sorry Jack's Kids - an apology to Jack who complained about profane references, because his kids read the blog. Now it's a multi-purpose swear word, or sincere apology depending on the context.

"SJK" should definitely be the house band for RI...
Posted by: 4-12 | July 31, 2007 6:27 PM
I think we'll have to watch how things go at OL.
Buges will probably try a few different schemes before it becomes clear what the winning combination will be.
Posted by: Stumped | July 31, 2007 6:29 PM
Hey 4-12,
That's by far the most elaborate joke I've ever seen posted.
You went to a lot of trouble to put that link together to rif on SJK. you were fast too.
Posted by: Stumped (with Fender strapped on) | July 31, 2007 6:32 PM
Not sure I follow, Stumped. Just did the intergoogle on "SJK", and that band popped up.
Posted by: 4-12 | July 31, 2007 6:41 PM
4-12,
Just the irony that there's a band SJK...
I watched the video. Death metal is so cliche and derivative, it's kind of funny to watch.
Not my sound, but very apropo for RI.
Posted by: Stumped | July 31, 2007 6:45 PM
Yeah, not a death metal fan either, but they work for RI.
New post....uh, oh.

Hey SMACK,
Didn't we get Fabini from the Cowboys? Is he just a waste of a roster spot or can he get the job done? Didn't you give us a chuckle when we signed him?
Posted by: Stumped | July 31, 2007 04:27 PM
I think Fabini is a total SJKer, but I was just busting on him for going to the Skins. Turns out he must be worse than I thought.
Posted by: SMACK | July 31, 2007 7:39 PM
Big 70 as some of his friends called him in college is definitely 6'7'' or 6'8''. He is ponly and inch to inch and half shorter than Gaither. I stay in touch with him. They loved him throughout minicamp and gave him some favorable treatment. Didnt ever think he would get to the 1st team already even with an injury, but had he not missed 2005 with an ACL he couldve been a late first day selection. He is definitely talented. Super nice and very down to earth kind of guy.

I can't believe nobody bit on Cindy's setup line in the post: "Jason phones this in..."
