Sean Taylor Is Running Right Now

Just spoke with Jason, who's on the practice field, about rumors that Sean Taylor hurt his knee, was carted off, ambulanced to a hospital for an MRI. "I'm watching him run right now," Jasno said.
Trust us, we'll report news to you when it happens.

We're not as doomed as we once were when people were reporting that we were doomed!

Posted by: P Diddy | August 8, 2007 7:22 PM

I suggested Jasno run out and squeeze Taylor's knee, just to be sure it was okay.

I'm sure Gary Fitz already did it 30 minutes ago.

It wasn't TAYLOR. It was CAMPBELL!!!!!! We're screwed!!!!

.....just kidding.

I knew he'd be fine, my 'source' at the hospital said it was this Sean Taylor,

So much for Lisa's day of positivity! It was hot in the kitchen today!

Maybe we need a catalyst for a day of positivity. Someone said earlier (can't remember who) that we should do it on the back of a win, I reckon that would work.

Posted by: kost52 | August 8, 2007 7:44 PM

so denny hamlin races cars and now wants to try out as a punter/kicker? i got nothing against that.

i subscribe to the loudoun county courthouse web site and this just in:
*#@skins park is changing its name to JGR&*#@skins park effective immediately.

seriously though...if they(snyderskins) don't win this year it is going to end REALLY BADLY with JGR & Snyderskins. let's "pray for the team" so it doesn't get ugly between these two.

i wonder how much weight has jasno lost in the last couple of days. it is like an oven on 475* with a bucket full of water.

Good to see you boys get into it, season hasn't started yet, and I reckon we're all fighting relegation! Jasno said he'll be joining soon as well.

If there's anyone else interested in an EPL Fantasy comp, let me know, plenty of available spots.

Kost, I'm still finding the rules elusive. Can I completely overhaul my team from week to week? And will I not be able to see my opponent's team until transactions are closed? I guess that would make sense.

I guess I should pay more attention to injuries, but seriously, who is injured at spring training?

Posted by: kost52 | August 8, 2007 8:45 PM

SMACK - You can change your team as much as you like before the season starts. After that, you're allowed a maximum of 2 'trades' per round, and you have a total of 50 trades to last you through the 38 rounds. As for your opponent's team, you can see the team he had in the previous week i.e. you don't see what trades, if any, he made.

Your "inside source" needs to check themselves. And your blog has a little egg on it after posting that rumor about Taylor. Try not posting something until you let the true media professionals who are there at the Park break the news. This inside source is a joke if they feel they have to notify a blog about a story like that. Give me a break.

Posted by: SMACK | August 8, 2007 9:14 PM

I gotta ask. Did anyone else's sports section of the Post today have a front-page photo of Bonds hitting the homer last night? The catcher looks just like Toles caricature of George Bush.

Posted by: Anonymous | August 8, 2007 9:41 PM

Jason on the Redskins blog its says this,"Earlier, I was alerted to an Internet rumor that Sean Taylor had a knee injury and was undergoing an MRI. Well, Sean Taylor is on the practice fields. He's not wearing a brace on his knee. He is full-go.
You can't believe everything you read on the Internet"

Are you even on the field reporting or is the post using internet reports as a guide to write your blog. Thats not good reporting if the post did that. I know your name is not on it so please explain?

PULEESE SJK NOTA BENE: you aren't allowed to post comments on Fitgerald's blog. So he just spews at you ... whatever mgmt. approves without the odd problem of a poster taking him and

Ran into Sammy two weekends at Cabo.

I don't think Cabo Wabo is a particularly decent tequila, but to each his/her own. I prefer Hornitos for good cheap stuff, and Herradura Blanco for the moderately good stuff. For those especially rare moments ("Saturday"), I tend to go with the Patron Platinum. Regular Patron gives me the creeps, but the Platinum is something pretty darn special.

I hate this whole sobriety thing.

Posted by: P Diddy | August 8, 2007 10:20 PM

Sammy was an imposter. The dude from Extreme was even worse. There will never be another Dave.

All the people talking about stats not being the determining factor in HOF induction are idiots. Like it or not stats are....wait for it..... the only thing that matters.

You may not believe it but i'd like to see anyone make a case for anyone to make it into the HOF without using stats. Stats are the way to qualify success. So please get off the soap box and quit being ignorant.

Without stats what are you arguments?

Dont be so naive.

Puleez - even though there's no comments, at least Larry fitz puts the news out ther at least 30 minutes before this "Redskins Insider" blog. You find a link or a copy and paste on this blog WAY before Jasno or Cin puts it out. Any of us could run this blog as long as we keep checking up on the other websites to get our updates. This is a place for you dorks to talk and speculate about everything except real Redskins news while you wait for the other sites to break real stories.

P Diddy - Is the wagon a permanent or temporary thing?

Posted by: kost52 | August 8, 2007 10:28 PM

I'm not in the camp that Michael Irvin shouldn't be in the HOF. I think his game play certainly warranted election. I'm disappointed that Art Monk isn't there, but I can see the interpretation others may have of his candidacy.

I think stats are critical to many of the electors, all of whom are sportswriters, and most of whom likely only saw players on their specific beat. Adam Schefter, for example, was the Broncos beat writer, and, therefore, only rarely had a chance to see Monk play.

Moreover, as the electors get younger and younger, and the players up for consideration fade into the collective memories of football fans, it becomes harder to discern a player's value on the field without stats as some sort of barometer.

The only thing that would deny a player's eligibility in my mind is when he engages in conduct detrimental to the League. Drug abuse is not one of those things (though it is certainly detrimental to the League's image), but, say, gambling or performance enhancing drugs would be. I think any player who tests positive for a performance enhancing drug at any point in his career should be automatically ineligible for the HOF.

Also, yes, Irvin was a drug user (and, likely, addict). As any of us who has had intimate contact with addicts knows, they can be downright charming. It is not surprising to me in the slightest that Irvin's teammates loved him.

Lastly, I believe strongly that the HOF committee should be comprised of both sportswriters and current HOFers. At least having a committee of non-voting current HOFers in the room when arguments are made and votes are cast could lend the affair more credibility than I believe it currently has.

Posted by: P Diddy | August 8, 2007 10:31 PM

I actually am kinda liking the wagon. Shhh, don't tell anyone. :-)

It's currently slated to last through mid-September. I want to spend some time getting in better shape (I'm in reasonably good shape now, but I'm aiming for jm220 crunches-shape).

Breaking up with a chick (even if she was a total basketcase and a complete b!tch) generally has this "get your stuff together" effect on me :-)

Posted by: P Diddy | August 8, 2007 10:34 PM

Bet you broke up with an ugly chick.

Posted by: Anonymous | August 8, 2007 10:35 PM

jm is a one sided b!tch!

Posted by: jmhater | August 8, 2007 10:36 PM

Monk's not getting in again hurt bad enough. Irvin's election was a fistful of salt in that never-healing wound. This is why so many of us are so bitter about Irvin.

But now that he's in, he won't be in the mix to submarine Monk's chances next February. It will be Cris Carter in the role of "other top recently retired WR."

I rather like Monk's chances relative to Carter's, who does not have quite the post-playing profile that Irvin has.

But I don't like it that Darrell will also be on the ballot, because it seems so unlikely that two Skins could get elected in one year. But we can hope.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | August 8, 2007 10:37 PM

I know what you mean, it does feel good being able to wake up on a weekend feeling fresh!

Do you have any opt out clauses, just in case a special occassion arises before your projected end date?

Posted by: kost52 | August 8, 2007 10:39 PM

HOF?

White had 1,761 completions on 2,950 attempts for 21,959 yards, 155 touchdowns, and 132 interceptions in his career. He also gained 482 yards and scored 8 touchdowns on the ground. Unusually for a quarterback, he has two pass receptions for touchdowns, from a halfback option pass. On special teams, he punted 610 times for 24,509 yards, an average of 40.4 yards per punt, with 144 punts in the 20 and 77 touchbacks. His record as the Cowboys' starting quarterback was 62-32 (66% winning percentage) during the regular season, and 5-5 in the playoffs.

Posted by: SMACK | August 8, 2007 10:40 PM

Many of the HOF voters and commentators have indicated that they look for a combination of career stats AND career highlights -- championships, memorable plays, especially in big games, Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections, teams of the decade, player of the week accolades (just kidding) -- and not one or the others. Therefore Monk is having a hard time, and Terrell Davis (great stats and glory for a very short period) will have a hard time.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | August 8, 2007 10:41 PM

HOF?
Bledsoe
98-96 as a starter
6,717 passes attempted (3rd all time)
3,839 passes completed (57.2 Completion percentage)
44,611 passing yards (6.64 yards/attempt)
251 passing touchdowns (0.037 TD/attempt)
206 passes intercepted (0.031 INT/attempt)
258 Total Turn-overs
26.76 passing attempts per touchdown
32.60 passing attempts per interception
123 fumbles (56 lost)

Yeah right. And I suppose "Fitz" would post something controversial? Like Sean Taylor complaining about his contract? Besides the only reason why "Fitz" is ahead is because he is sitting at a computer the whole SJK-ing time. Obviously. Jason has to call stuff in to Cindy. Posted by: kost52 | August 8, 2007 11:50 PM

Periculum, I hope White and Bledsoe never even sniff the Hall. Those were just two quick examples of why stats are not the only thing that matters. Not saying this about Monk, but some guys are just lucky enough to be mediocre for a long, long time.

Posted by: SMACK | August 8, 2007 11:50 PM

SMACK, I don't see Barry Bonds retiring...he probably will not be playing with the Giants next season but he will be playing somewhere.

Several of you have already mentioned this today but it bears repeating....why do anonymous poster come on here and complain that Jason has not reported the latest news that Gary Fitzgerald is reporting? If you anonymous posters feel that way, then just keep on reading Fitzgerald.

I could be wrong but I believe that Fitzgerald is being paid to write a minute by minute (something like that) account of training camp happenings. Once training camp is over - so are his reports. Jason, on the other hand, is being paid by the WaPo to write articles about the players, training camp, etc. for the PAPER - not our beloved blog. He gets the news to us when time allows.

I hate to think that Skins fans are so mean and whiny.

Posted by: Lisa | August 9, 2007 12:02 AM

I think whiny is the perfect word for it.

Posted by: kost52 | August 9, 2007 12:04 AM

Jason probably wishes the blog had ended after training camp last year. I'm sure it's fun on some level, but it's also something of an obligation for a guy who is already absurdly busy.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | August 9, 2007 12:14 AM

Posted by: SMACK | August 9, 2007 12:23 AM

Same goes for Cindy, who I think has to kind of babysit more blogs than this one, in addition to the, like, actual work she has to do.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | August 9, 2007 12:23 AM

SMACK, he won't walk away, but he will dramatically bid farewell to baseball.

For his finale, he's going to wheel a circus cannon out to home plate, get inside, have his son touch a torch to the fuse, and be launched therefrom into McCovey Cove. He'll be wearing the body armour, so no worries. But after that he'll never be seen again. Genius.

LG - Good to hear mate, wisdom teeth is a pain no one needs!

I would've thought that hard worker applies to people who aren't necessarily athletically gifted (not saying that athletically gifted people don't work hard), which is probably why it gets used on white players more often. But I would've said someone like Rock Cartwright is a hard worker.

I wish the season would just start already.

Even I can't stand listening to every sports prognosticator and football personality predict 5-11. Has anyone, and I mean anyone, seen or heard a prediction with a winning record? They ALL can't be that far off, right or wrong?

It might be another long season. I'd hate to see the fallout of the fans/players/coaches following another 5-11 year.

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | August 9, 2007 7:52 AM

Wow Z coming hard early this morning. lol

"That's one we'd want back," Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome said. "That's a very good player we let get away

Posted by: jm220 | August 9, 2007 7:57 AM

RB;

Those prognosticators are rarely right. They base everything off of the roster, coaches and schedule. But I can think of numerous things that affect the game beyond that, resulting in wins and losses...

1) Gameplan - this could be covered in the coaching section above, but some teams are easier to read and figure out trends (whcih I think other teams did to us last year)

2) Weather - Dome teams notroiously suck in the weather to say the least.

3) Referee's - While I dont generally subscribe to the thought that they can affect the whole game, but one bad call, killing momentum on one drive, that kills momentum for that half which could in turn kill the game.

4) Intangibles - i.e. Momentum, Challege flags, personal fouls,

all these things can go towards affecting a game.

My point - who the SJK knows what anyones record will be this year... the best I try to do is say who will be good and who will be bad - so maybe that translates to over .500

Jasno,

Nice feature on a former Raven, Rabach. I agree he is excellent. But I start to see some method in your madness. If only we could have a whole team of former Ravens, you might start to pub-up some positivo news. I slogged my way through NFL network replay of Ravens based coverage of the scrimmage and felt eerily at home, with all the Ogden and Reed interviews and announcers with such comments as "the Ravens would have sacked that QB in a normal game after each Redskins completion..." etc. Fairly low class Ravens homer announcing in my book.

Can we get some info on the following; the Skins undrafted D-lineman from Cal (looked like he had a sack and strip on 11-11 drills in the scrimmage). Laron Landry, sadly he was Mr. Invisible to me during the scrimmage.

"The Reaper is #2 among Top 10 defenders under 25 years of age...."

It'll be interesting to see what Williams does with both Landry and the Reaper. I suspect he was thinking along the same lines when Archuleta showed up. Then he found out, much to his chagrin, that Archuleta was slower than Joe Gibb's Southern drawl. He ended up as a back up safety after training camp. I believe that was the point Gibbs was making when he mentioned an upgrade to team speed. Probably William's biggest gripe with last year's team.

Now he can scheme to his heart's content. He has the one-two safety punch he yearned for. NOW, the pressure is on him to produce. And this year may be a year that will determine whether he ever gets considered for a head coaching job again.

There are times when our whole world seems to be falling apart around us, and we are not sure what to hold onto anymore. Sometimes our relationships crumble and sometimes it's our physical environment. At other times, we can't put our finger on it, but we feel as if all the walls have fallen down around us and we are standing with nothing to lean on, exposed and vulnerable. These are the times in our lives when we are given an opportunity to see where we have established our sense of identity, safety, and well-being. And while it is perfectly natural and part of our process to locate our sense of self in externals, any time those external factors shift, we have an opportunity to rediscover and move closer to our core, which is the only truly safe place to call home.

The core of our being is not affected by the shifting winds of circumstance or subject to the cycles of change that govern physical reality. It is as steady and consistent as the sun, which is why the great mystics and mystical poets often reference the sun in their odes to the self. Like the sun, there are times when our core seems to be inaccessible to us, but this is just a misperception. We know that when the sun goes behind a cloud or sets for the night, it has not disappeared but is simply temporarily out of sight. In the same way, we can trust that our inner core is always shining brightly, even when we cannot quite see it.

We can cling to this core when things around us are falling apart, knowing that an inexhaustible light shines from within ourselves. Times of external darkness can be a great gift in that they provide an opportunity to remember this inner light that shines regardless of the circumstances of our lives. When our external lives begin to come back together, we are able to lean a bit more lightly on the structures we used to call home, knowing more clearly than ever that our true home is that bright sun shining in our core.

From the Sports Bog FAQ page:

What the Heck Is This?
Q: Why is this called a Sports Bog?
A: The Author covered the Maryland football team in 2005. When he told Ralph Friedgen he was leaving the beat, the coach replied, "I don't even know what a bog is."

(Who does, really? Check the video.)

Anyhow, the name seemed appropriate, considering this town is something of a swamp. (Or not.) If you want to get really deep, you could also consider this another step in The Washington Post's continuing efforts to wade into the murky quagmire of the Internet sports world, which will eventually cost all of us our jobs. Or maybe you could say our deepest goal is to ensnare bored office types, who will with any luck be caught up (bogged down?) in the wonderful world of weird sports links and inane ramblings. Anyhow, many thanks to Friedgen for the name.

Q: What will the Bog cover?
A: The Redskins, the Wizards, the Nationals, the Capitals, D.C. United, NASCAR, ultimate fighting, amateur rugby, minor-league basketball, cup stacking, competitive yoga, gourmet cheese, craft beer, local bloggers, obscure message boards, reality television, gambling addicts and funny hats.

Q: What's the goal of the Bog?
A: The Editor hopes it will change the future of the Internet. The Author hopes not to be fired.

Q: Can you be more specific?
A: Every morning the Bog will provide a summary of local sports news in, let's say, 200 words or less. Then the Author will take a coffee break. For the rest of the day, he will attempt to inject himself into message board conversations, solicit breaking news from Post reporters and tailgate invitations from Post readers, discover behind-the-scenes information about Redskins punters and Wizards bench warmers and sample the latest in exotic concession-stand fare.

Q: Kornheiser is a lot funnier than Dan Steinberg. Why is that?
A: Higher salary grade.

Q: What should I do if I see Brian Schneider enjoying himself at a local nightspot?
A: E-mail sportsbog@washpost.com.

Q: What should I do if I find a world-changing YouTube clip of Clinton Portis jet skiing while dressed as a Tibetan monk?
A: E-mail sportsbog@washpost.com.

Q: What should I do if Mister Snyder tries to cut down my trees?
A: E-mail sportsbog@washpost.com.

Q: What should I do if I hate my stadium chicken fingers, or if I discover a message board thread about the Orioles' 2007 World Series chances, or if my local cricket club is hosting the East Coast Rock-Paper-Scissors Invitational and would like extensive media coverage.
A: E-mail sportsbog@washpost.com.

Q: What should I do if I write an amazing blog, or bog, or if I discover an amazing blog, or bog, or if my mother or sister or haberdasher writes an amazing blog, or bog, and would like to be linked here?
A: E-mail sportsbog@washpost.com.

Q: A lot of times when people hate a blog, they'll post a comment that says something like "Worst. Blog. Ever." Would that be a clever phrase for me to post if I hate this bog?
A: Absolutely.

Q: I see Jason LaCanfora has a blog about the Redskins, hyperlinked here. Don't you people realize that hundreds of thousands of readers care about the Redskins, while relatively few care about gourmet cheese or minor-league basketball?

If there's anyone else interested in an EPL Fantasy comp, let me know, plenty of available spots.

Posted by: kost52 | August 8, 2007 08:05 PM

I'm interested. I love football.

I read through all that crap called "positivity". Doggoneit. That's during the most optimistic time of the year. Sheesh!

Where's your courage, "fans"?

Posted by: bangkokben | August 9, 2007 12:50 PM

What is this 'courage,' something you find in Thailand?

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | August 9, 2007 12:56 PM

Nate,

Just the reading some of the posts it seems that the will to live for some us hamsters is not that high. Life has unlimited possibilities and some of them are horrific but most are somewhere between the mundane and the magnificent. Why always forseeing the worst case scenario? It's like Winnie the Pooh's Ee-ore has hijacked Washington Redskin fans.

Posted by: bangkokben | August 9, 2007 1:05 PM

Nice epistle jm, I always enjoy it.

The vid of the girls was nice too, though I didn't make it through the whole thing.

Posted by: Stumped | August 9, 2007 1:05 PM

Speaking of forseeing...

The biggest losers in the draft slotting process is the first round QBs picked after the top five. They miss the most camp as the agents see their value differently from the other slots. The agent waits to see what is adjacent to pick and then figures some sort of misguided calculation as to what the QB's value is and the team never sees it the same way.

Brady Quinn will be this year's Patrick Ramsey as there is no sure starter in Cleveland and his agent will want starter money. He'll probably miss 10 days or so and have trouble getting that starter spot.

Posted by: bangkokben | July 29, 2007 04:15 AM

BEREA, Ohio (Aug. 8, 2007) -- Brady Quinn didn't have to sweat out this wait wearing a three-piece suit.

Even so, it was every bit as agonizing as draft day.

Hours after the quarterback ended his 11-day training camp holdout by signing a five-year contract with the Cleveland Browns, Quinn said he understands that nothing -- not a starting job or support from teammates or fans -- will be handed to him.

Sure, a little horn tooting.

No Give and Take. No Exchange of Thought. It gets you nowhere, particularly if the other person's tail is only just in sight for the second half of the conversation.

Posted by: Eeyore | August 9, 2007 1:20 PM

Better step it up soccerhaters!

Steven Goff: The numbers for the excellent Redskins blog have always been ahead of the Insider and always will, but not by as much as you'd think given the ravenous appetite for NFL news in this city. I'm sure, once the Redskins season begins, those numbers will take off again. The Wizards blog has made significant gains (why, I'm not sure) and Steinberg's Sports Bog remains the most entertaining read of all.

That sounds like fake daveb55. The homophobia is usually more subtle, and daveb's spelling is usually better.

That sounds like a fake Nate in the PDX. The statements are usually more obvious, and Nate's spelling is usually worse.

"You may not believe it but i'd like to see anyone make a case for anyone to make it into the HOF without using stats. Stats are the way to qualify success. So please get off the soap box and quit being ignorant.

Without stats what are you arguments?

Dont be so naive.

Skinz, i have two words for you: Lynn Swann.

Posted by: Redskin Willie | August 9, 2007 1:42 PM

So SMACK, your deep and abiding aversion to VA notwithstanding, do you still play?

Posted by: Redcoat | August 9, 2007 1:45 PM

Enjoy your chicken, Dave.

Boy, the way the heat is making everyone's temper (mine included) hover around the redline the last few days, if we were lining up to play football ourselves, the tackles would either all be wiffs or there would be dead and broken bodies all over the place!

Whoever quoted from Summer in the City yesterday got it bang on.

Skinz, i have two words for you: Lynn Swann.

Posted by: Redskin Willie | August 9, 2007 01:42 PM

Willie I have a stat for you. 4 Superbowls.

Your point is valid however. He is in because of spectacular "memorable" plays in big games and being a beloved figure.

He is an exception however and not the rule.

Posted by: Skinz | August 9, 2007 2:16 PM

Skinz, Willie, I think Swann is the last guy we'll see get in on glory alone. Nobody with such paltry stats will ever get that kind of consideration again, especially at the WR position. That's why Swann's name ALWAYS gets brought up in these discussions nowadays.

that postgameheroes.com site didn't say he got carted off the field. They said he had an MRI but did not appear to be in pain. Doesn't sound too far fetched to me.
