Renaldo Moves On

Just left the building. Sad thing to see, but he says his agent has received a few sniffs already.

"As one door closes another door opens," Renaldo said.

Wynn is intent on playing - I feel like I've got some more great years left in me," he said - and thanks the Redskisn for his 5 years here. He had become a pillar in the lockerroom and in the community. He wished he could have learned of the decision sooner - I wish it could have happened earlier," he said, alluding to former starters Lemar Marshall and Joe Salave'a who were released in the past few weeks.

Renaldo did not seem as surprised by the move as I thought he would be, and, lilke everything else, he took it in stride.

I understand the youth movement going on, but the Redskins have let go of three top-class human beings in Renaldo, Joe and Lemar.

Have not seen Ryan Boschetti come through yet - though the process of letting guys know is ongoing - and I haven't seen all 22 guys come through yet. So we'll have to see how it plays out.

Sad part of the game.

I'm heartbroken....loved Renaldo...he was a classy guy.

Posted by: Lisa | September 1, 2007 4:24 PM

Jason,

Is it possible that some of the younger guys they're keeping are also top class human beings?

Posted by: talent evaluator | September 1, 2007 4:26 PM

Wow, first Big Joe, now Renaldo. Love to see the youth coming through but it's tough when it means the good guys lose out as a result. Thanks Renaldo!!!

Posted by: ouvan59 | September 1, 2007 4:27 PM

Renaldo is a good guy, but we're not keeping those who are good guys. We are keeping those who the coaches feel are going to help us win games. That's the nature of the game. I'm sure, as te said, that some of the young guys are good guys as well.

Posted by: TC | September 1, 2007 4:29 PM

oh well, it sucks but we have to move on.

Posted by: kyle | September 1, 2007 4:30 PM

Yes, it is sad; but not as sad as the diamond in the rough rookie who after a lot of hard work is let go and may have to wait until mid season or even next year before getting called back into the NFL.

Ranaldo has to both be ready to crank it up with another team and go on with life after football. He is a winner no matter what awaits him. Redskins are winners if someone of his abilty has been replaced by someone "better" and it turns out to be a wise cut. Nobody looses.

No disrespect to Wynn or Salevea but it's good that the Redskins have the balls to bring in youth (something everyone has been clamoring about). Community service is great, but it don't win football games.

HAIL!!! (You sure they didn't hire a GM) This wreaks of an organization with a plan!

Could be, but we can't know that yet.
They haven't been here long enough, and character is something revealed over years not one training camp.

I hate to see Wynn go; but did expect it.
He is a good guy, loves people, unselfish, and that is what Jason was referencing.

Posted by: Redskin Ray | September 1, 2007 4:42 PM

I didn't know Wynn had any great years period. Especially over the past 3 years in DC. I know he was a great locker room guy and great in the community, but it's no big loss for the defense. We wish him well...

Restock. Reload. How many fans have been crying for a youth movement and to grow talent from within?

We extend Cooley
We make the hard cuts and cultivate a new culture of speed, speed, speed

You CANNOT have it both ways! HTTR

Not that was funny!
You mean this team may actually be finally learning the way it is done?

Keep high draft choices for building long term;
Any trades can be for specific needs arising and using lower draft picks.

Got to admit; right now it looks like by far the most productive off season for this FO since the Dan Snyher era began.

"Dallas quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson, a former NFL quarterback, was suspended for five games by the NFL on Saturday for buying and using performance-enhancing substances."

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | September 1, 2007 4:46 PM

I kind of think Renaldo's in denial about having a "few years left in him"....nice guy and everything, but he's as slow as molasses right now. Maybe he'll catch on somewhere as DT or something, but even that may be stretching it.

Salave'a looked much better than him in terms of speed and he hasn't signed with anyone yet.

Posted by: Cliff Huxtable | September 1, 2007 4:46 PM

Forgot to enter my name; this was my post and I own up to it praising the FO folks.
I think it is the first off season I have been excited since Dan Snyder arrived.

Nope; not even the Samuels, Arrington draft. I was concerned they gave up too much drafting up to make the big splash!

I'm not buying it, Ray. If you can't tell a man's character after scouting him, interviewing him, and having him for a summer in training camp, then you shouldn't keep him on your team.

Posted by: talent evaluator | September 1, 2007 4:48 PM

What is the definition of "great"? No sacks, no QB pressures and 25 tackles?

Posted by: RichInTampa | September 1, 2007 4:49 PM

IAN SCOTT RELEASED BY PHILADELPHIA EAGLES DID'NT THE REDSKINS HAVE INTERESTED IN HIM??

Posted by: Jake17 | September 1, 2007 4:49 PM

Does anyone else think it is odd that a quarterbacks coach is suspended for more games than a player for doping?

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | September 1, 2007 4:50 PM

Very strange...

Posted by: RichInTampa | September 1, 2007 4:50 PM

Bryan,
I agree with you 100%

I do hate to see Wynn cut because I liked him as an influence on younger guys, but hey, this team Defense is much better than last year!

We must each year let a two or three guys go that we love as fans. If Coaches do not cut two or three each year then FO is not doing its job of scouting and trading wisely.

Posted by: Redskin Ray | September 1, 2007 4:51 PM

as difficult as it is to see "core" 'Skins removed from the 53, it is great to see that there was enough talent and competition in camp to warrant such tough decisions. A plan for once and not the typical SNAFU.

Posted by: lifelongfan | September 1, 2007 4:51 PM

We may be close to our first 01-D in RI history. Cue the apocalypse.

Is Byron Leftwich washed up? I know he's slow, but he's got a good arm, is clearly a leader, and is a native of DC. Has he been picked up?

Posted by: cosmofla | September 1, 2007 4:53 PM

Skins have just cut Mark Brunnel and Brandon Lloyd.

Ok, just kidding, but I got your attention, huh?

Posted by: Redskin Ray | September 1, 2007 4:54 PM

Where is that hammer?

Posted by: talent evaluator | September 1, 2007 04:48 PM

Oh, you mean like Michael Vick.

Posted by: TM | September 1, 2007 4:56 PM

Or Marcus Vick?

Posted by: cosmofla | September 1, 2007 5:02 PM

Or Vick's Vaporub?

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | September 1, 2007 5:02 PM

Oh come on Talent Evaluator; you have got to be kidding!

There are many traps in the NFL life.
Can a guy stay focused like an Art Monk and continue to develop like a Monte Coleman?
Or will some success be his ruin because he does not have the character to handle success?
Timmy Smith? Barry Wilburn, Albert Connell
All had great physical tools and all succeeded, and then all promptly through it away and you can be sure they were influencing other teammates negatively as well!!

Renaldo was a good guy but was very ineffective for the last few years. Glad to see we are looking for youth at this position

Posted by: wattsicon | September 1, 2007 5:38 PM

Bummer.

Posted by: Renaldo Fan | September 1, 2007 5:50 PM

If the Skins kept big Joe, Lemar and Wynn, JLC would harp on Gibbs for sticking with Vets past their prime. You'd expect that from a national writer, not a supposed "Home Town" guy.

Posted by: Truth | September 1, 2007 5:51 PM

Before the start of last season, I had a chance to meet Renaldo he came into my work. He was representing and wearing a throw back Notre Dame jersey. I told him I was a big fan, & asked how is arm was (after he got hurt in the playoff game)...He was a VERY classy guy. He thanked me for asking about his injury, I asked if he thought Andre Carter would take his spot...He looked at me for about 3 seconds...took a deep breath and said "it's gonna be very competitive"...

I was just really impressed with him off the field & became a bigger fan on the field. I hope he continues playing and remains a figure in the community. A great guy to have around, I wish him the best.

One thing that Tom Landry always did, was cut older starters once they had been beaten out of the starters job. They never remained as backups once they lost their starter status. I think that was real wise. It kept a constant rotation of youngsters and prevented bad feelings in the locker room. It also gave the youngster more confidence because "there was no going back" if the youngster had a bad game.
