Safety Dance
Bubba Tyer said it's too soon to know for sure how safeties Vernon Fox (groin) and Peirson Prioleau (hamstring) will respond to practice, but he would say Prioleau's injury looks less severe if you mde him choose.
With that in mind, the Skins are talking to safety Omar Stoutmire, league sources said, and I would not be surprised at all if he is the guy who ends up in Marcus Mason's vacated roster spot on Wed.

GREAT thread title, by the way.
Any time we can get a Men Without Hats reference in, that makes up for a lot of hoo-hah up here.

I can't get any work done with all this news!
Posted by: Coskins | September 11, 2007 5:42 PM
ack, what I think the point is we will cut him post june 1 next year, take 1.75 or whateves the F it is then and move the rest to 2009.
I dont think we can absorbe the 7.5 or whateves the F it is in 2008... Sean taylor and JC need to be resigned.
See, we dont get in cap hell in any current year we are in b/c the signing bonuses of all the cut players accelarte for the next year.
I have always said we could play the game by keep pushing the cap hits out to the next year, free up the room to pay for it and then do it all over again.
Eventually the world has to end and then there will be the reaiming prorated portion that we were to owe in the cosmos and we would have won!
its late time to gtfo
Posted by: Zebra | September 11, 2007 05:43 PM
But now I see that is what you are trying to say, i think Jack.
I guess that is the real problem, your posts ramble, as mine do, and then as soon as someone says you are wrong then you get defensive and your posts become even more ramblish.
Oh well, either way, we will owe him much doloros
Posted by: Zebra | September 11, 2007 5:46 PM
I'm saying cut him now! and be done with him. But either way it doesn't all come due immediately unless we cut him between the super bowl and June 1st, in-season means nothing. And we'll have cap room with Arch coming of the books.
Posted by: Jack | September 11, 2007 5:49 PM
Jack, Zebra, bigfish, etc... one more thing on the celery cap discussion...
I AM absolutely in favor of "spending to the cap" in this year, 2007, now that we have Cooley's contract extended.
You can't take it (unused cap room) with you (to next season).
And it's not like cashflow is ever a problem for our FO.

Anybody see Lamar Marshall fly around in cincy uniform? Marvin Lewis seems to like to pick up all players that got cut by the skins...

Posted by: Dorf | September 11, 2007 5:53 PM
Ok, So your saying cut him now but you were also making points about cutting him next year.
Either way, i get what you are saying, now or later; we can do it. I think ST and JC will demand pretty hefty salaries, and maybe by some miracle we can get some production out of him and then trade him.
Wishful thinking, im outta here!

Jack - I never told you that you were wrong. I actually did my research before commenting on the subject so no need to apologize here. And I never resort to name calling or telling people to stick things in places anyway (unless I'm driving).
Posted by: bigfish | September 11, 2007 5:56 PM
I think Reche spells a bench/inactive season for Lloyd which makes him worth less then a ham sandwich, so might as well get it over with and be done with the guy. But Zebra, you make a good point about JC and Taylor, although neither are pending Free Agents so unless you think they are going to hold out I don't see how it applies here.
Posted by: Jack | September 11, 2007 5:56 PM
And again, I know I have this Pollyanna problem, but maybe just maybe Brandon Lloyd will turn out to be a contributing member of the team. He only had a few balls thrown his way Sunday, probably being considered as our #4 receiver on most pass plays (after Moss, ARE, Cooley).
Sure, you want him to convert every single opportunity, but how many times did Soup throw to Lloyd? Two? Three?
Santana looked terrible, too, and Cooley made one (critical) catch, but we're willing to write those off because we know how brilliant those dudes can be.
What I'm saying is the passing game was not exactly humming along on all cylinders on Sunday, which magnifies Lloyd's failure to do anything. Maybe if he keeps getting chances he can do something. Maybe.
I'm saying all this because I don't believe he gets cut this season, and he's not going to do us one iota of good from the bench...

If we dont get them done prior to next season, we will have to pay more to keep them outta FA. And to do so might mean some good moneys up front. And we back load every contract with hefty signings up front.
I would rather just sit him like they did with TO. 4 games, let him practice but make him inactive.
Then tell him he gets one chance to make some plays, and if not, then sit him the rest of the year... wait until just b4 the next season and cut his a$$ and hope no one wants a reciever.
Posted by: Zebra | September 11, 2007 5:59 PM
Dorf, if your serious I actually appreciate it. And bigfish, I'm not asking for an apology from you, basically just K-squared a$$clown, 4-12, and the rest of the people who called me stupid, an idiot, and were very vulgar. Its just not necessary, I've never called anybody a name, and can fully admit when I'm wrong, we're all here because we love the Skins, that kinda hate is just not cool.

Sorry Jack. I wasn't being serious because I don't think I said anything to you before the meltdown of communication. I must say you maintained a fairly classy disposition for ruffling so many feathers about the cap room. I don't claim to know any of those details so I was staying out of it. The blog got a little out of hand in the last few hours so I thought I'd be a peacemaker.
As long as you stick around to defend your arguments, I got no beef with you. To many "yes men" up here sometimes. I use the RI as a great way to procrastinate on things and am very guilty of talking a bunch of non redskins nonsense.

I'm Al Michaels along with John Madden here in the Yahoo call booth which sits right above the Lexus shaded club seats not to be mistaken with the Toyota club seats in the sun. Let's get this straight, jackass. You want the team to take a 7 mill + cap hit next year? For a guy who won't even be here, just to get it over with.
Your logic is retarded. Much like you coming on a blog and asking peeps not to use profanity, for fear your children may see it.
You have been a horse's ass from your first post, righ through your incessant arguing stage, when blog peeps were telling you to just shut up or give it up already.
Clearly, you don't get it. Never have, never will. DULT.

I don't mind disagreement, and I've long since come to realize that my realism/cynicism about this owner/front office isn't appreciated here, and I welcome debate and usually can admit when I'm wrong. I do really hate the name calling and "the your wrong the redskins are the best!" backed by no logical reasoning that can be here sometimes, but for the most part I enjoy talking about the skins on here and have come to realize the jerks will always be there.
As its stands now though, we get Philly with no Lito and the Giants with no QB or RB, can you say 3-0 heading to the bye baby!!!
Posted by: Jack | September 11, 2007 6:12 PM
Nate - I'd love to play positive on the Receiver as well but I think I said it earlier in the week or at least thought it. . .how do you trust this guy on the field at this point?
That INT was big in that he gave up on the play, didn't tackle and thus not only was it an INT but it was a missed TD.
*sigh*
Oh and I haven't said it yet but so EXCITED to have Sallie Mae back in the house. Where is Megskin?
Posted by: sfskin | September 11, 2007 6:12 PM
Why oh why would the Seahawks take Frye? I mean I know they want a back up for Hasselback so Wallace can play PR and WR but seriously? Hasselback is supposedly 100% back from injury but there is always a bit of a ? and so do you want this guy as back up?
On the other hand Holmgren does seem to get make a little magic at the QB position.

K squared, you ought to spend some time on that anger man, if you look back, I've been nothing but positive since the Kendall trade. I'm excited about this team and think it has a shot in a weak NFC East. And I'm sorry, they deserved criticism after a 5-11 season and the O-line debacle. And yeah, they're gonna have to take the hit on him sometime, or do you just want to keep here and never be rid of him?

PATS GUILTY OF CHEATING
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has concluded that the New England Patriots violated league rules when videotaping defensive signals being sent in from the sidelines by Jets coaches during Sunday's game at the Meadowlands.
NFL Security confiscated a camera and videotape from Pats employee Matt Estrella, a video assistant. Mort says that the evidence that was confiscated confirmed the suspicion.
And the punishment could be severe.
Mortensen reports that Goodell is considering the possibility of stripping the team of "multiple draft picks," given that he has issued a stern warning to all teams to avoid such behavior.

YES! I'm sick of all the Pats a$$ kissing too!
It's week one! How quickly people forget that teams typically rise and fall throughout the season (except the colts). If the pats keep this up for another 10 weeks then I'll be a believer.
Posted by: coskins | September 11, 2007 6:23 PM
holy shti...the Pats cheating scandal calls into question all of the their recent domination and Brady's "knack" for finding open receivers....this is huge guys.
Posted by: SCSkinsFan | September 11, 2007 6:24 PM
Mort was saying that this morning about how the Pats were going to have to suffer greatly for their sin. At some point in the afternoon, I read on NFL.com (not sure where) while procrastinating that it wasn't going to be so big a deal.
Why don't we wait and see... I'm weary of reporters trying to break huge stories before anyone else and not getting the facts straight. (Not even sure how Jasno does on that one, I love his Kool~Aid too much.)

Jack, my man, your tone (name calling or no) just comes off kind of strange, and to be so brutish arguing a ridiculous point like the cap hit that cutting B Lloyd is worth it is well...silly...
My free advice, and I give b/c I dig your passion, is mellow out a bit...crack some jokes, drop the "I am the only one that gets it" stance and just BYGO baby

reche Caldwell was a No. 1 last year for New England (albeit an inferior No. 1). Does anyone else think the best outcome might be for Caldwell to be the No. 2 and move Randel El back into the slot. I think ARE showed he can handle the load of being No. 2 last week, but by allaccounts he is most effective as a slot receiver.
Caldwell probably won't play this week since he won't know the system. Any chance Lloyd (as No.3) finally blows up and pulls in 2-3 touchdowns just for spite? Sort of a "bench me now b**ches"
Posted by: Mike H. | September 11, 2007 6:30 PM
If the Pats have to end up giving up draft picks, where or who do they go to? And if this is true then we need aan asterisk in the record books beside their SB wins. Funny that the Colts banned all on field cameras for the AFC Championship game last year and the Pats ended up losing.

Does anyone else get the feeling that the Redskins use the polls on their website to help make decisions?
If the Redskins made a roster move, what position would you like to see addressed?
33.8%
Offensive Tackle
26.8%
Defensive End
18.1%
Wide Receiver
12.2%
Cornerback
7.2%
Other position
1.8%
Tight End

CL ... no bias here. I say get rid of Lloyd. Now. My suggestion earlier was to have Samuels beat the crap of of Lloyd and then the Skins place him on IR. Cut him after the season. They will need to take the cap hit at some point. Its 'when', not 'if'. Some people are just bad to keep around. This Skins team has guys who put it out there every play. They will tolerate a guy who messes up while putting in full effort. But if you come to work everyday and watch some guy pulling down a big check that won't put in the effort ... its better to have that guy gone. Because he is not part of the team.

Posted by: 4-12 | September 11, 2007 6:46 PM
Yo Al that seems like the most sensible solution I have heard up here all day!
Maybe instead of Samuels smack down, let him play lead reciever on scout team...he'll be hurt in a few practices....as in getting caught in a malachi crunch between the reaper and Double L...

Damn - That link just made me hungry and they have Skippy's favorite key lime pie.
Posted by: bigfish | September 11, 2007 6:49 PM
That's a good point, rather then cut him, couldn't they just place him on IR? He'd still get his money, we can replace him with taking a cap hit?
I'm not going to pretend I know too much about the cap, but couldn't this work?
Posted by: kost52 | September 11, 2007 6:51 PM
Reche Caldwell is the type of big, tall (210, 6-0') possession receiver the Redskins have needed for years. This is a good pickup!
I thought Mason would be on the practice squad to begin the year. Hope he makes it through waivers...
What's up with releasing LB Anthony Trucks? I thought he was better than LB Matt Sinclair. Or were they planning to promote Trucks to the active roster and shutdown Washington or Fox for a few weeks?
Posted by: siris | September 11, 2007 6:52 PM
It could work Kosty, but he has to have some kind of injury the league will buy...
Back in Gibbs 1 they used to stash projects on IR with hangnails, almost like a redshirt...but mainly due to Gibbs the league cracked down on that...
Remember in the movie Victory they had to intentionally break the goalie's arm so Sly Stallone could play and hatch their escape plan? Its like that...line up the forearm between some boards and give it a quick kick...for the good of t7he team and all...
Posted by: Chris Larry | September 11, 2007 6:54 PM

you people disgust me! Wanting to intentionally hurt a receiver just because he's a no good, lazy, salary cap stealing, virus of a player??? well maybe you have a point.

All these comments have brought a tear to my eye. Why is everyone so down on me and wants me to be cut? I have done nothing but be productive and give 100% effort. Plus my musical skills are tight.
Posted by: #85 | September 11, 2007 7:04 PM
Am I crazy, or would you rather see Marcus Mason at the #3 spot instead of Rock Cartwright? I'd move Rock back to FB and cut Fabini wienie.
Posted by: TDawg | September 11, 2007 7:08 PM
didn't get to see too much of the skins in pre season out here in CO. Was Marcus Mason really that good? It was pre season after all and he was probably running against guys that are selling cars now.
I'm not saying he's not worth a roster spot. I'm just asking since I didn't get to see him play.

ESPN Scouts Inc. -
Why To Watch
This is a key divisional game in an NFC East race that should be tight all season long. The Redskins got by Miami 16-13 in Week 1 and the Eagles lost at Green Bay by the same 16-13 score. Neither team is very explosive on offense but both play well enough on defense to stay in the game. Philadelphia needs a better passing day from Donovan McNabb while Washington needs more consistency from young QB Jason Campbell. Still, this game will likely come down to which team does a better job of running the football and controlling the clock.
When the Redskins have the ball
Rushing: The Redskins have become a run-first offense as expected and ran the ball 41 times against the Dolphins, giving the two-headed monster of RBs Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts a chance to and cover up the deficiencies of Campbell and the passing game. Washington is without veteran RT Jon Jansen (dislocated ankle), though, and is a right-handed run team that likes the stretch play and must adjust to a new tackle. Portis can give them cutback runs off the stretch play when the backside linemen can seal off the defense and Betts will likely do the heavy lifting between the tackles.
The two combined for 141 yards in Week 1 and the challenge this week will be to wall off a Philadelphia front seven that loves to shoot gaps and run slants and run blitzes. The Redskins can burn the Eagles if they catch them out of position, and with Philadelphia being somewhat unproven at linebacker look for Washington to attack the edges with the stretch play and look for cutbacks against overpursuit.
Passing: Campbell continues to struggle with consistency and decision-making, but the Redskins running game has a chance to bail him out until he gets better. His go-to receiver right now is No. 2 WR Antwaan Randle El, and the run-first philosophy of the offense could lead to a decent play-action package. This could become a very vanilla passing attack with a lot of throws to tight end Chris Cooley and quick slants and hitches on the perimeter, which would cut down on the need for Campbell to read the entire defense and make pre-snap adjustments.
The Philadelphia linebackers are not comfortable in coverage and we may see some screen plays and dump-offs to the backs and tight ends. Washington might also anticipate the blitz and test Eagles CBs Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown with pump fakes in single coverage in an attempt to expose their tendency to jump routes and be overly-aggressive. Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson will try to confuse Campbell with movement and alignments and his ability to read it may be the key to this game.
When the Eagles have the ball
Rushing: Philadelphia RB Brian Westbrook runs behind one of the biggest and most physical offensive lines in the NFL and the Eagles have made more of a commitment to offensive balance this season. Westbrook is much more effective running between the tackles than most people realize and the Redskins have a pedestrian front seven, although new MLB London Fletcher should upgrade the interior run defense and physical safeties Sean Taylor and LaRon Landry close on the ball quickly and can break down and tackle in the open field.
The Eagles will try to seal off the backside and get Westbrook on the second level with cutback plays, but also look for draw plays designed to get the LBs linebackers to drop into coverage and give the offensive line better blocking angles in space. Look for some run blitzes with the linebackers and safeties from Washington defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, designed to blow up the run game and prevent Westbrook from getting to the second level. The Eagles must identify Redskins defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin on every snap because he is the one player who can disrupt the interior running game.
Passing: The Redskins want to blitz their linebackers and safeties more in 2007 and to do that they must play more man-to-man coverages with their secondary. The good news is that they have three good CBs in Shawn Springs, Fred Smoot and Carlos Rogers, along with Taylor and Landry at safety, who have corner-type athleticism and cover skills. Look for Washington to come with more corner blitzes because of their confidence in their safeties in coverage on the perimeter.
The Eagles' pass offense struggled in Week 1 against an aggressive Green Bay defense. Washington can lock up their corners in single coverage but the matchup that might decide the game is how the Redskins cover Westbrook and Philadelphia TE L.J. Smith. If they are matched on safeties it could be a push, but if Westbrook in particular can get isolated on a linebacker in coverage he could make some big plays. Don't look for a lot of motion and shifts from Westbrook because if he runs his routes from the inside he has a better chance of being covered by Fletcher, and that is a matchup the Eagles want to get.
Special Teams
Philadelphia is usually very solid on special teams but doesn't look good right now. The Eagles have a good kicker in David Akers but their return game and cover teams are adequate at best and there just doesn't seem to be much potential for explosiveness. They were also uncharacteristically sloppy last week against Green Bay. Washington has a chance to make big plays with Randle El returning punts and the Redskins' cover teams are very respectable, so they should win the field position battle. If this game comes down to a key play on special teams the advantage should go to Washington.

DARN IT! i missed a fight.
what was it about? re:marcus mason. an nfc east team will pick him up (my fear). but here's what i'm predicting (and i have been so right about everything up here that i feel the need to predict over and over again) that he will be better than betts in less than a year in this league.
also i am absolutely loving nate's twin. he/she is so good at being nate. nate, please don't let it bother you. it's not malicious. someone's just having fun.
Posted by: dealer | September 11, 2007 7:16 PM
Most important point from that lengthy analysis is about Griffin. He can change the line a lot if he plays well. Which is usually the case if he is healthy. Whether its sucking up double teams or pushing back the center of the O-line, watch what happens with Griffin and the center of the Eagles line. Winner of that battle probably wins the game.

ESPN reports encouraging signs in Kevin Everett's medical condition...
Posted by: P Diddy | September 11, 2007 7:42 PM
I must admit I was a little surprised that Mason was cut. But I guess if you look at it, he made the team because Blalock was injured, Blalock was on the team to replace Duckett, Duckett was on the team because of injury concerns with CP. The way CP played on the weekend, showed he has no ill effects, and a safety valve at RB isn't required anymore. So I guess it makes sense.

The NFL careers of 3rd, 4th, and 5th stringers at any position are precarious. Why this is surprising to anyone is perplexing.
The bigger question is how are the 'Skins going to get Cooley and Moss involved in the passing game on Monday night, because without them it will be very, very difficult to win on the road, in a very hostile environment, against a division opponent that is coming off a really silly loss. Monday night is going to be a pace-around-the-room, nail biting evening...

Looking at Caldwell's career numbers...that's just a little over Art Monk's entire 1984 season. I'm not sure Caldwell is going to be a marked improvement at the position. Of course, after seeing The Receiver's pitiful performance on Sunday, I suppose anything is an improvement. Just don't get too excited is all I'm saying...
Posted by: P Diddy | September 11, 2007 7:52 PM
P Diddy - You're right, the lack of catches for our big 2 is a worry, but at the same time, the emergence of ARE gives the Eagels something to think about, does he now require more attention? If so, that will probably free up Moss/Cooley a bit more. I guess this is what a balanced attack is meant to do. If you take that away, then I'll use this. Not saying that we have a balanced attack just yet, but we're starting to show signs I think!

Okay, while we're talking names, I must confess that I find the moniker "Cindy's boy toy" disturbing on some level... it's pretty funny, though, especially since I imagine Cindy likes a little gentle ribbing from us on the blog, but it's right up on that line between cool and dubious.

We bandied about some login/registration options for 'gating' the blog comments a while back, during some of the really bad blog attacks, but we generally agreed that we would fight through anything, that the hassle wasn't worth it.
And I should note that sometimes there are hilarious comments which are obviously jokes by regulars, attributed to Jerry Jones or Vinny Cerrato or whoever. I do like that.

I don't think any of us Portlanders reported that there was a bleary-eyed Skins fan who joined us at the On Deck -- I think his name was Lloyd?? -- who had gotten up to watch a 7am Sunday broadcast of a rugby match with his South African friend.
He hung in there through the Skins game, but he was clearly hurting. And his friend was a good sport but was admittedly bewildered by the intricacies of American football.
Fun cross-cultural experience: this guy is taking his Springbok pal to DC for the Skins-Giants game in two weeks. Good times.

Any new news today on the SS not starting fiasco?
Anyone else think that BL is heading for the inactive list this week as punishment?
Also if Weird Al's offense is so complex how can we expect Reche to come in and contribute anytime soon?

I hear ya. I'm listening. But, to be honest--I'm not sure if you're really Nate.
To make matters even more confusing, I've never met you, so I don't even know the real Nate anyway.
This is confusion and madness on the order of the boat scene in the orginal Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

periculum may be guilty of veering off to Crazyville (where I spend an unhealthy amount of time myself) periodically, but I wouldn't list him as a prime suspect for this recent raft of blodentity theft.
Not saying periculum won't be brought in for questioning down at the Mayberry Sheriff's Dept when we do our roundup, but Sheriff Taylor and I agree that it was probably either Otis the town drunk or Floyd the barber.

One of them (Shoreditch-Eagles Fan) played last season and did pretty well. I think he messed up in the first week and only had 2 WRs active. Last year only 2 WRs could be active, and I don't think he noticed the change. Probably wouldn't have mattered too much anyway, his 3rd WR was Terry Glenn who missed anyway.
The other (More Than Just Punters - Bills Fan), it's his first year, but I don't think he did too bad considering the game LJ had. Waiting to hear what he thinks (he's probably busy crying about Elam and the cheating Patriots). Most of the Fantasy games over here are like the EPL one we're playing, more interactive, but less realistic.

How do we know that Nate's not pulling one over on all of us posting as himself and then fake posting as himself with XPD and DPX's and then posting as himself claiming that someone was impostering him.
He even admitted that it had to be a regular having some fun.
Personally I think Nate is sitting back sipping a beer having a good chuckle courtesy of all you RI peeps.

Hello Farstriker,
but I wasn't commenting on which three plays I thought were best in Skins History. I was commenting on how fans were overwhelmingly voting for the Mosely FG when hiring George Allen was certinly bigger and winning the NFL championship in 37 was the biggest of the 3
Slingin' Sammy Baugh
Your mention of 4th and 1
Oh yes, it will no doubt win when it is presented as one of the top three, but for this week those were the three presented.
Miami 13 Wash 13 4th 1 70 Gut!!
Let the Riggo begin...
Posted by: Redskin Ray | September 11, 2007 10:05 PM
Darrell hurdling Bozo is in my top three.

Thanks Cbt, she is nice! She thinks Ronaldinho's smile is contagious. So do I...much like the bite of a komodo dragon. Though I guess that's actually more infectious.

I'm in favor of the log-in and registration. Maybe even a small fee which would discourage fake posters (probably those from $ynder's Extreme Skins) and who could be blocked. The season has started but the posts are definitely not like last year's, where comments were about the team and were not juvenile, personal attacks. You can't convince me that the folks in Cashburn aren't behind these Jasno-hating comments b/c of his reporting (and no, he is not always right).

Interesting speculation by Clayton regarding the Pat's cheating scandal:
"This incident will probably lead to having a defensive player on the field with a radio helmet to receive defensive signals from the sideline. Using hand signals to relay defensive calls is an outdated concept. The offense can use modern technology. Why can't defenders?"

I love this.
In the ESPN Mag, there was an interview with Maurice Jones-Drew.
Dan Patrick asked him if he copped any hazing as a rookie, and MJD sid that they shaved his eyebrows (Among other things). Then Dan Patrick asked him how he coped with the eyebrows gone
MJD - "I looked surprised all the time!"

Ahhh the joy of recalling what I think is the greatest single moment in Redskin History:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8cexwNdeyQ&mode=related&search=
As you watch the replay notice how the entire left side does it's job on this play enabling Riggo to be at full speed to run through the tackle of the CB.
Jacob goes low pinching down,
LG Grimm gets through to the MLB
As the MLB gets away then FB Otis Wonsley dives into him knocking him off of his feet
TE Didier gets the complete kickout on his man, and Riggo is off to the races!!
It also reveals how hard it is to get a big run. it only happens when several blocks are made on one play and here it still took a mismatch by Riggo to break the arm tackle of the CB.
Great video, huh?

Longhorns fan nearly castrated in bloody bar scuffle
Posted: Tuesday September 11, 2007 6:57PM;
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- To some Oklahoma football fans, there are things that just aren't done in the heart of Sooner Nation, and one of them is to walk into a bar wearing a Texas Longhorns T-shirt.
That's exactly what touched off a bloody skirmish that left a Texas-shirt-wearing fan nearly castrated and an Oklahoma fan facing aggravated assault charges that could put him in prison for up to five years.

Gotta run to dinner...but had to post this. I had no idea about it, but DirecTV just sent customers mail "apologizing" for it not functioning properly last weekend.
http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPage.jsp?assetId=P4330048
If you're a DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket SuperFan subscriber, you can watch games Live on your PC. I'm going to try it out this weekend and let you know how it checks out. Remember, you have to already be a DirecTV Sunday Ticket subscriber. It's not going to work for everyone, but for those who are traveling and don't want to Slingbox it, this could be your solution.
Also, for those overseas, don't forget Yahoo NFL Game Pass:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nflgamepass
That one, of course, is only for non-US users.
For the record, if you travel a lot and still want to keep up on TV or sports or whatever, I highly, highly, highly recommend Slingbox.
Good night, hamsters!

Still watching the skins/fins replay on nfln. Thing I love most about it is it cuts out all the retarded banter by whatever 3rd string banterer they put on the skins game week to week. God, I miss the announcers of the NFC East power days, back when our division was good for a Super Bowl once every four years. Are we getting back to that finally with Campbell and Romo?

SPecial K, sounds like you're watching NFL Network... I have been meaning to ask Lisa this, but how would you say they cover the Skins relative to other teams?
There is a recurring theme up here (without a teevee I can't observe) about the Skins getting short shrift on ESPN... is NFLN "Fair and balanced"?
Posted by: Nate in the PDX | September 11, 2007 11:05 PM
One thing watching this NFLN replay makes me realize is that Phillip Daniels is definitely the weakest link in our D-line.
Posted by: bigfish | September 11, 2007 11:10 PM
Nate, I think nfln ignores our chances at least equally to any other media outlet. "I don't want anyone jumping on our bandwagon!"
Posted by: Special K | September 11, 2007 11:14 PM
It's always interesting to watch what was televised after you've been at the game. It's great being at the game because you can see the entire field, so even if you don't know a great amount about football, you can still see the play develop. But, it's amazing how much you don't see when you're there, too.

re: the recevr
that play in the end zone made me sick on so many different levels, so I win't rehash the stuff you guys covered.
the only redeeming thing about the recvr in my mind was his performance against dallas last year at fedex. As much weight as coming up big against the cowpokes holds, i'm really coming to the end of my rope w/ this dude . . .
i think i'd let him go even if he shows up big . . .No I say this and reserve the right to change my mind if he actually does come up big . . .
hail!
Posted by: skinsfan@8KaboveMSL | September 11, 2007 11:19 PM
Nate, to clarify, when they (meaning nfln) do show replays of our games, they do as good a job as they do with other games with interleaving comments from the players/coaches, and I do love that, but realistically, like the other sports nets, they just don't respect us as a contender. We're more of a muddle-of-the-road team as far as the nets are concerned.
I guess we're gonna have to go out of the Detroit game at least 3-1 before we get noticed, but that's okay by me--I think we've got a classic SB team in the making here! And I don't need no one getting on the bandwagon!
Posted by: Special K | September 11, 2007 11:19 PM
Even though they lost a great deal of credibility around here with their Reaper is injured falsealarmingus, I'm really loving the postgameheroes breakdown of the game. With the amount of time they put into it, they put me to shame. I thought I was a nerd, I'm just not worthy of that title with those boys around!

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | September 11, 2007 10:22 PM
Hand signals will never be outdated for the defense unless they put a radio in everyones helmet bc the defense doesn't ever huddle as much as the offense bc they have to generally line up first.
The biggest argument against the defensive headset is that you need to be able to have all the defenders react to the signals asap when playing defense against a hurry up offense when there is no time to huddle. There will be no time to huddle for the defense in this situation and no one will know what defense to run / blitz etc...

On the Lloyd endzone fiasco, er, shabingus, I suppose, commentator says "Campbell sees Moss break across the middle of the field, so he realizes he's got one-on-one with Brandon Lloyd, but the reality was Lloyd just didn't fight for the ball as much as Travis Daniels." It was obvious to anyone watching, but geez, even the retard announcer picked up on it.
I don't care how "eloquent" Lloyd's training camp journal was. He's got two more weeks. No production by the bye means bye bye Brandon if I'm Gibbsy.

Actually Redskins related:
This is from Yahoo!
"It was a tough opener for the entire Cardinals' passing game and for Fitzgerald in particular as he had a very difficult time getting open against 49ers corners Nate Clements and Walt Harris."
All I can think of is Carlos Rogers' 20 yard cushion and Chris Chambers inflated stats. 6 catches - 92 yards.

Uh, so what in the last 15 years makes us anything other than a middle of the road team? At best the 'Skins franchise is middle of the road. At best. I'm a huge, huge fan, but let's take off the rose-colored glasses for a second and look at this objectively. Two playoff appearances in 15 years, God knows how many QBs, five head coaches...
The 'Skins don't deserve any national television exposure until they actually, you know, do something.

I define "mancrush" as someone I would actually trade places with.
JT, Denzel, Tom Brady, and Tiger Woods. That just about covers it.
As for my "safe list" (because I must balance it out with some hetero love), it begins and ends with Keira Knightley.

Chris Cornell: I honestly wouldn't know this guy from the lamppost (I mean, I know who he is, but I wouldn't recognize him).
But my friends always, always, always point him out here in Seattle. Always. And I'm always like, "Who? Which guy? No? Really???"
Kind of like when they pointed out Sammy Hagar in Cabo and introduced me to him. "Who?"
Yeah, I have absolutely no musical taste. Hence, JT.
