TCCLs

Not a lot of time here with a webchat coming up at noon, but here's what I got:

10.4 TCCLs - Offensive Line. The names keep a changing but so far so good. Not sure how well Fabini will work as a long-term starter and wonder if DeMulling will push for that spot coming out of the bye.

9.6 TCCLs - The Kids on D. Sure, Rocky and LaRon screw up sometimes because they are a little too over zealous - LaRon miss-fired big time on a few plays letting Westbrook pick up big yards - but they have a sense of theatre to them as well and seem to come up big in the clutch. Their speed, aggro attitudes and playmaking skills are big additions.

8.7 TCCLs - Shuishy and Frosty. Way to get it done, boys.

7.5 TCCLs - The D Line. Very, very early still in this season, but they are certainly holding up better than a year ago. A lot of transition going on at this spot as well, and lile the O Line, they are getting through it. Squuezing the max number of plays out of Griffin is essential, but keeping his healthy is even more imperative. That's a tough line to straddle.

0.9 TCCLs - Clock Management. Come on Joe, get it together. That fire drill at the end of the half wasn't good enough, and it's hardly an isolated incident. They got bailed out this time but you can't count on too many second chances in this league.

-10 TCCLs - The Media. I think a lot of schlubs are over-reacting big time to what Donovan McNabb said and taking the entire episode way too personally.

-162 TCCLs - The Sox. You guys are killing me. Ridiculous. Theo's job should be on the line. Management failed miserably to address roster concerns and their collection of big-money busts are the primary reasons why this team didn't score a few more runs and run away with the best record in the AL weeks ago.

Funny how Rush Limbaugh said the same thing about McNabb two years ago and was basically forced to quit ESPN , yet McNabb can say it and get away with it why? because he is black. Total double standard.

I'm a bit new to the blog. What are TCCLs?

Posted by: BDWESQTM | September 21, 2007 12:01 PM

Agreed to an extent Jeff

Posted by: oc Skins | September 21, 2007 12:05 PM

Regardless of what Herm Edwards would say ("HE'S a Kicker"), I think thats kind of low for the kickers. I thought they've performed great and deserve a higher rating than the Dline, which still needs to smack around a quarterback.

How about 10 TCCL's for the 'teams in general.

12 for Sellers...He's a bad, bad man.

LB Marcus Washington told me he would like the rest of the country to continue to ignore the Redskins saying he hopes people weren't paying attention to their Monday Night win over Philly.. "I want us to be like crocodiles, we sit back, wait and bask and then we eat when we eat."

Posted by: via bram | September 21, 2007 12:06 PM

Rush actually said that McNabb was getting the benefit-of-the-doubt because he is a black QB -- because, according to Rush, the media is clamoring for a successful black QB.

Your too tough on Coach Joe for the clock management for last week. J Campbell said that the confusion came because the audio in his headset went out. Yes, there still needs to be a backup plan to execute but it wasn't the total incompetence that it appeared to be.

New "She Says, Z Says" on cnnsi.com. I am massively in love with Brooklyn Decker. Even if she DID pick the Giants! She deserves a spanking for that one. Naughty, naughty zoot.

Diddy, if you enjoy "She Says, DBag Says", then you'll love "The Alternative with Jay Mohr" on FOX Sports. WAY funnier and his wife Nikki Cox makes a regular appearance (usually scantily clad) to make their picks for the week. I encourage all to check it out.

How about Wilbon dropping the N bomb in his column? Kind of takes my breath away to see that word on WashPo, but I absolutely understand why he used it. And I do agree with McNabb that the criticism of him has gone above and beyond what could be expected simply for poor play at QB.

I caught the whole HBO piece while I was in NYC and as usual McNabb made tons of sense. Not sure if it's available on the net or something but I would recommend watching the whole thing to provide some context. Not that James Brown was fishing for controversy, but he did press McNabb on the history of being criticized from many different angles.

McNabb looked really bad against us on Monday, the same kind of really bad we've seen a lot from Brett Favre during his long decline. Shaking your head because the guy used to be so very good. But he (McNabb) is only 30, and I hope he gets well and has a nice long career after leaving Philly and our division.

The thing is that Brooklyn and I have history. I've been lusting after her for more than a year now, she's been ignoring me for even longer. It's the kind of healthy relationship my mom told me to seek out.

Posted by: P Diddy | September 21, 2007 12:26 PM

From wiki:

"The term Jumping the shark alludes to a scene in the TV series, Happy Days, when the popular character, Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli, on water skis, literally jumps over a shark. The scene was so preposterous that many believed it to be an ill-advised attempt at reviving the declining ratings of the flagging show.

Since then, it has become a metaphor that has been used by U.S. TV critics and fans to denote the point at which the characters or plot of a TV series veer into a ridiculous, out-of-the-ordinary storyline. Typically, such a show is deemed to have passed its peak. Once a show has "jumped the shark," fans sense a noticeable decline in quality or feel the show has undergone too many changes to retain its original charm."

My favorite JTS moment is either Cousin Oliver on "The Brady Bunch", the replacement of Ponch and Jon on "CHiPs", or the signing of Norv Turner to be the head coach of the 'Skins.

Posted by: gethanr13 | September 21, 2007 12:30 PM

Rush was wrong. By the time McNabb came around, there were enough successful black QBs in the league to nullify his point. Not only that, over his career Brad Johnson had a few things McNabb has only had once (or never had at all): 1) effective receivers and tight ends, 2) a firm commitment to the running game, and 3) consistent RB production from decent runners. Alstott and Pittman combined were better than everything the Eagles trotted out until Brian Westbrook found his inner muse two season ago. And let's not even discuss that loaded Vikings offense Brad played with earlier in his career.

I am not an Eagles fan, but I certainly didn't root for McNabb because he is black. However, he is charismatic and athletic -- which makes him popular for similar reasons to, say, Michael Vick. Except McNabb is about 50 times the QB Vick was. Steve Young was charismatic, athletic and popular...and a better QB. Then again, Young also had a much better supporting cast: Jerry Rice, Tom Rathman, John Taylor, Ricky Watters, Bill Walsh and others.

By the way, Rush and McNabb didn't say the same thing, Jeff. But someone else beat me to that point. Sounds to me like you saw what your preconceived notions led you to see.

I can't recall on Redskins.com
was it Sellers who was upset that the Skins aren't getting any respect?

Who cares about respect? I don't.
Just win baby... and the respect will come.
Meanwhile this team can sneak up on people.

For example on ESPN Salisbury and Hoage were salivating over the Packers and Texans being 2-0.

It's ok folks, maybe we can get some wins now, because that schedule sure does heat up in a few games! Yikes!!

In my typically nitpicky way, I took the liberty of amending the definition of TCCLs on the wiki. That bit about "jumping the shark" just didn't sound right to me.

A teevee show "jumps the shark" when it airs a moment which is just absurdly untrue to its very nature, usually in a desperate attempt to regain lost ratings, and everything from that point until the inevitable cancellation is tainted.

Tom Cruise Couch Leaps are not unrelated to jumping and to teevee. Tom Cruise demonstrated his delight in something by jumping up and down on a couch, on Oprah's teevee show. But that's where the connection ends.

TCCLs are used to measure praise doled out here on the blog. More TCCLs indicate higher praise. It has no similarity to the notion of faded glory, being past your prime, or whatever is embodied by the phrase "jumping the shark."

Blah blah blog. You all have permission to hate me for this post.

I am so sick of "the black excuse" Cmon folks haven't we been passed all that. That whole thing died once Doug Williams raised the Lombardi trophy. McNabb is just using that as an excuse cause...well... he sucks. If anyone watched the MNF game he was walking around smiling, overflowing with confidence because he believed that the game would already be his for the taking and that he could shine in the MNF spotlight. Then reality set in and the outcome was obvious ... your skills are no more and thats why the Iggles drafted Kolb. So what does he do, uses the black excuse....typical. Listen McKnobb, the black excuse has been worn down as much as the"Wuuuuuuz up" term. The spotlight isn't on you anymore and your confidence isn't what it was, so ditch the black excuse and practice more.

McNabb is coming off knee surgery. It usually takes an additional season to recover. I have a feeling he'll be back in form next year. It's a worst to first League, you know.

As for the African American QB thing...I haven't seen the full HBO interview, so I'll refrain from commenting. The media love to take specific incendiary lines and blow them out of proportion.

Posted by: P Diddy | September 21, 2007 12:39 PM

I told you all there was a BEEP BEEP!, I believe a select few owe me an apology.

Posted by: C-lo | September 21, 2007 12:39 PM

Also, Dorf, as discussed last week, I am a fan of the "classic" TCCL scale, which as I recall simply measured from 0 to 5.

This year has introduced a newfangled scale like something out of Doc Brown's lab which apparently can go from absolute zero (a zillion negative TCCLs) to infinity and beyond.

But I am change-averse, as a rule. 0 TCCLs for "change for change's sake."

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | September 21, 2007 12:41 PM

"I am so sick of "the black excuse" Cmon folks haven't we been passed all that. That whole thing died once Doug Williams raised the Lombardi trophy. McNabb is just using that as an excuse cause...well... he sucks."

Jeff, you again miss the point completely. McNabb made those comments months ago in an interview. He wasn't trying to justify anything. He wasn't even talking about himself, nor was he speaking bitterly. It's not an excuse. It's a fact.

Read Wilbon's column for an intelligent take: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/09/20/AR2007092002688.html
Save you "black excuse" rants for Al Sharpton. Just because you don't bother to dig past your superficial perspective doesn't mean your view of reality is accurate.

Or you can keep the blinders on if you want...whatever.

Posted by: jcabana | September 21, 2007 12:46 PM

Hey Nate. Yes I did and it seemed to me like this was a guy who obviusoly put too much onus on being black and how the world works as opposed to focusing on the fact that his skills have diminished and hios team has lost their spark. If McNabb and Iggles fail this year; expect to see him in Minnesota.

Posted by: Jeff | September 21, 2007 12:47 PM

Does anyone remember the Simpsons episode where Bart is watching a "McBain" movie where McBain and his partner are at a bar and his partner Mendoza is sharing about how he's about to retire and go yachting with his wife and some scumbag who McBain busted comes back for revenge and kills his partner?

MENDOZA!!!!!

MV Dame, you reminded me of that... thanks!

Posted by: Dorf | September 21, 2007 12:49 PM

McNabb's comment?

Look, why do we have to make race the focus?
Why did McNabb throw race into the question? Because he wanted to direct the attention off of himself that's why.

Fact: whomever is the QB in Philly, NY, Chicago
will have much worse scrutiny than the QB in Tampa, GB, KC, etc.

But hey, weren't we all brutally tough and honest about #8's poor performance here in DC last year?
Oh, he was white, and that doesn't count?

Double standard.
Excuse.

Posted by: Redskin Ray | September 21, 2007 12:50 PM

I dunno, Jeff, I saw it and didn't have at all the reaction I was led to believe I would have from all the hype. And I certainly didn't come away with the feeling you did, that (if I follow you) McNabb was trying to say that criticism of his play is not completely valid because people hold him to a higher/different standard than they hold white QBs.

Anyway, I repeat that I like the dude, and I want him to get healthy, get the heck out of our division, and wrap up his career in a happier place than Phillthy. I'm still guessing Chicago, his hometown, but you're right that MINN is a good guess too.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | September 21, 2007 12:52 PM

Jeff;

The interview was apparently prior to last weeks game and from the sound of it prior to the regular season starting. So its not an excuse.

All McNabb is saying is that he feels judged differently. Can you truly sit there and say HIS feelings are invalid? Have you lived one day as him?

As a whole I think we will never get past race in this country if we keep pointing it out. But then there are situations like the Jena 6. There is a lot more 'hidden' racism in this country versus the out and out in your face racism.

As a white person I feel in a privileged position b/c people put their guard down around me being white and say shti they shouldn't. Just from that I know there is still a lot or racist bigots in this country.

If you dont know about the Jena 6, enlighten yourself and do some reading.

Posted by: Zebra | September 21, 2007 12:53 PM

and yes, I know the interview was prior to the start of the season... that is my point.

QB's in some cities will have it much harder regardless of their race!
Ask Eli Manning
Hey, ask Rex Grossman! They are all over him and were last year as well when they were winning!

Posted by: Redskin Ray | September 21, 2007 12:54 PM

Oh, and philly is know for their race issues.

Posted by: Zebra | September 21, 2007 12:56 PM

I'm getting more and more paranoid about this game.

This is a classic trap game.

Division opponent.
Able to put up points.
Team "finally getting respect"
Opponent getting trashed by hometown media
Favorable matchups.

I don't like it. I don't like it at all.

Posted by: Skinz | September 21, 2007 12:56 PM

Hey Nate, I hate McKnobb too but you have to admit he walked around with a swagger before the game because he thought the game was already won....ya by the Skins. its all an excuse on his part.

Posted by: Jeff | September 21, 2007 12:56 PM

Again, Redskin Ray, if you watch the interview I think JB was pushing steering McNabb to analyze the nature of the criticism he has received throughout his career from many sources. And in the course of that analysis McNabb made some points about how he feels he is perceived, which have now been conflated into some racist/reverse-racist screed which just was not there. This is just my opinion.

Anyway, I feel like this conversation has jumped the shark. 0 TCCLs for us on this one.

I don't see the making excuses thing. Isn't it at least possible that he can discuss what he thinks is unfair criticism AND take responsibility for his play? Because I think McNabb is a smart guy and capable of both.

Ugh. Why are we still talking about this? Are we that hard up? Should we go back to random quote generation? :)

Posted by: sniksder | September 21, 2007 1:03 PM

Redskin Ray:

Race was the focus because he gave an honest answer to the question he was asked. To McNabb's credit, he didn't shirk from the question. He tackled it head-on. To paraphrase Wilbon: nobody called Mark Brunell, Rex Grossman or anybody else a n___er, a cracker or anything else racial because of their poor play. But McNabb gets that kind of abuse from Philly fans -- just like Doug Williams did when he played for the Bucs.

That's right: even after all this time, nothing has changed for some ignorant folks. Comparing that to critiques of Rex Grossman's performance is ignorant at best and downright slimy at worst.

It's mind-boggling how people can't seem to have an intelligent, reasonable conversation about race. A black person says there might be some bias, and it seems that a whole lot of non-black people react by immediately throwing up their hands and shouting, "OHMIGOD WHYAREWETALKINGABOUTTHISAGAIN GETOVERIT!!!11one!"

Like I said, save your venom for the real rabble-rousers like Sharpton. Jason is right: too big a deal is being made of this.

Anyway, about the game: I could definitely see the 'Skins blowing this one. Every time a team loses, they become more desperate - and every time a team wins, they become less desperate. Factor in the division rivalry and media all picking the Skins, and you have a recipe for an upset.

What he said is NOTHING like what Rush Limpd**k said. Rush alluded to him getting special treatment because the liberal media wanted a black QB to do well. McNabb said that black QB's get extra criticism because they are black.

I've never been a black QB so I don't know if it's true or not but McNabb has been classy throught his career so he's earned the benefit of the doubt.

McNabb is like Mike Vick was in Atlanta last year without the mobility. He has the arm but the targets aren't getting open. When he was mobile, those scrambles would have allowed his mediocre receivers to break off their route and get open. Right now, all he has is B Westbrook out of the backfield. Those other guys get no separation off the line on most downs. Vick would get unwarranted criticism because he would take off running. Couldn't blame the guy because other than Crumpler, nobody there hung on to the ball much.

JLC, I feel your pain with the Bo Sox. I am a Mets fan and watching them crumble this past week is tough... I can only hope they turn this around, get healthy quick and make a big post season run through October. This really sucks... And to see the Yankees going strong now - just bites even more.

But I still got my Skinz playing tough...

Hail!

Posted by: E in VB | September 21, 2007 1:15 PM

I hate to even dip my toe in this.

I don't think anything that McNabb said had even the slightest bit of reverse racism. I just think what he said was idiotic and wrong.

There is a very simple way for Mcnabb or any other QB to end the critism. Stop cashing the paychecks and retire.

There are plenty of things that I don't care for at work and I have the right to stop coming at any time.

Jasno, answered my ridiculous question on the chat. Don't know why that made my day.

I posted an interesting take on this all Donovan McNabb shabingus days ago from Jason Whitlock of Fox.com. His points are that QB's are now perceived as management by the other players and that he has criticized by his own black players as result of not supporting TO desire for more money.

"Herndon, Va.: ENOUGH with the music comments!

Jason La Canfora: sorry bro, it's my chat and i'll ipod if i want to"

John from Herndon? All I can say is, if the 'Skins lose to the lowly Gints, John's heart will be extremely broken.

"Redskins, why do you break my heart??"

[A classic line in RI history]

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | September 21, 2007 1:33 PM

Yes Zebrat, you are right I intially brought it up in relation the to the article that also talked about the O-line and other REDSKINS related topics. The McKnobb was posted at the bottom of the article and I responded to it because I don't think it belongs here. Listen D bag(oh such strong words) why don't you move to Louisana and make a difference.

To the rest of the Skins fans, I think Plaxico is a game time decision.

Posted by: Redcoat | September 21, 2007 1:34 PM

I'm tired of all the the people who are saying McNabb should shut up and play. I bet you the ones whon are thinking and saying this are from the caucasian persuasion or other race. Don't tell me the whole "He's a BLACK quaterback?" thing died when Doug Williams lifted the trophy. You know why? It still took another couple of years for Warren Moon to throw an NFL pass and even then you could count on two fingers the amount of black quateracks. It sickens me to hear people come with that "We've come along way" crap, it's bulls&@*! Everyone knows it. Let me tell you this country, this world will never come to a time where you look at a person of differnt race, color, religion, or orgin and physically see them as exactly like you, or in some case equal. Donovan McNabb told the abso truth and I LOVE how he stuck by his comments, no moonwalkin or flip-floppin. Here is an example of how racial equality is a jike in this country, well a few.

1)Affrimitive Action - if everything was so damn hunky dory, why is it needed? And if I could I would smack the first muthaf@&* who said "The individual best qualified for the job always gets the job".

2) Don Imus vs. Lamar Thomas - You probably don't know who Lamar Thomas is, huh? He's the guy who was fired for his on air comments regarding the The "U" and FIU brawl. Should he been fired? Yes. It was completley unprofessional, especially given it is during a fight with teenagers on the field. Note to Lamar Thomas: Its probably not good to promote violence among teenagers. By now we are all familiar with the comments made by one, Don Imus. What he said wasn't just degarding to that basketball team, but to all women, especially black women. (FTR, I don't know any nappy headed white women)So when CBS decided to axe his a$$ I had no issues what so ever. What surprised me was the uproar about his termination. 'Are you F'n kiddin me?' He refered to them as "Nappy headed hoes", where the beef? Oh and the kicker to me is the fact that people try to justify it by saying "Well, what about 'Rap' music?" Again, are you REALLY F'n kiddin me? Hip Hop is not real. 95% of what is said in hip hop or rap songs is not real. People don't care to pick the brain of 50 Cent, Kanye West, or T.I. on political issues, global warming, the iraq war, etc... They do with Don Imus. He was, excuse me, still is adored my millions of americans, which means they somewhat value his opinion, and it is a safe bet they'd agree on 90% of the crap that shoots out his face portal. Bottom line, Lamar Thomas (Miami U alumnus) is fired the next day, after his comments saying, "You don't bring that stuff to the OB baby." Y'alls (america) boy Don "Cause" Imus calls a basketball team "Nappy headed hoes" and "Jiggaboos", gets told to sit in acorner for a couple of days and when the cheddar starts to melt, tell him to get the steppin. Double Standarded. For who? I'll let you decide. All that racial equality, justice for all nonsense, can be told to a ignorant fool who dosen't know any better.

Your boys are going to make the playoffs whether or not they win the AL East. Hold your head up son. Didn't they win their last World Series as a wild card?

Posted by: LH | September 21, 2007 1:39 PM

Hey Drama King, the truth hurts doesn't it. The fact of the matter is there will always be racism in the world but the point that people in the NFL are trying to prove is that you shouldn't be judged by your colour when it comes to winning football games. Rex Grossman isn't saying that. Drama King= dumbass

Posted by: Jeff | September 21, 2007 1:39 PM

Jeff, I'm hoping you're not as hidebound and uninformed in your views as you come across.

As a European conservative with a small 'c', which makes me a 'bleeding heart Liberal' over here, I want to believe the best of all people, but you're really not presenting yourself in a very enlightened way.

You keep referring to McNabb making 'excuses' for his play, when he had not yet played even a pre-season snap when the interview was conducted. What did he need to excuse back then pray tell?

If you don't like him because he's the Philly quarterback just say that and move on. McNabb's entitled to his opinion about how he's treated; neither you nor I are really in any position to posit on whether he's right or not.

Posted by: Redcoat | September 21, 2007 1:39 PM

What? you make no sense.

Your original post was about Mcnabb and limbaugh. Jasno had it in his second to last tccl... so that is why you responded. And if it doesnt belong here, then why respond? And then you proceeded to put your foot in your mouth by saying it was the same as limbaugh.

then people, like myself called you out and then you said lets not talk about race. Talk about backtracking.

I really dont understand why you want to cry for me or think I am a brat, I wasnt crying about anything. Just your position on the topic was stupid and I was pointing that out.

So keep talking so everyone can ignore you.

Why are we even bickering about McNabb. We all know he whines when things don't go his way.

I agreed with Skinz, he said something idiotic because he can't handle a little verbal abuse the same way he couldn't handle TO.

The sad part is he made this a racial issue when it really ought not to be. It was the iggles fan they boo anyone. Let's stop accusing each other of getting a boner out of calling another racist.

Let's focus on beating the crap out of the Jints instead.

Nate, it was NOT random quote generation ... it was the Statement Game. [Invented by yours truly, inspired by you saying that this game was a game where the Skins needed to make a statement. I think you actually put it in quotes, "statement" game.]

Also, did I just read someone type "some of my best friends are black"? I thought that was only on television. White privilege is invisible (to most white people), so I'm just going to pull the pin on that grenade and run.

I don't really have much that I'm "looking for" from the Skins on offense. Kind of going to kick back in a lawn chair kind of way and see what they have to show me. I'm back in full pre-season mode on offense, i.e., PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't anybody get injured. Its the defense that will keep me nervous (and I don't want anybody there to get injured either). Return to my regularly scheduled irrational timidity.

5 TCCL: Winning- At midnight on monday night myself and two other grown men were jumping up and down giggling like 12 year old school girls slapping "fives" with my dog looking at us like we are idiots.

4 TCCL: The new Bois on D- Rocky, LFB and L2 flying to the ball.

4 TCCL: Sellers- My man crush on you continues. I see a Pro Bowl invite for you this year.

3 TCCL: Right side of the line- Good job last week. Keep it up you have a far more stern test upcoming.

2 TCCL: Cooley's involvement- TD catch aside, I don't see him involved as much as i'd like. I think him being a threat in the passing game is the key to our O this year.

1 TCCL: Politics, Religion and Race on the blog- It's divisive and doesn't belong here. There are other forums to discuss such things.

You're referring to Guy Fawkes Night 'sween. It 'celebrates' a failed plot by conspirators to blow up the houses of parliament with barrels of gunpowder while the representatives were in there at the time on November 5th, 1605.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night

Traditionally people would build a bonfire and put a 'Guy' on the top (Guy was named for Guido Fawkes, leader of the plot). A 'Guy' is actually a dummy made out of old clothes stuffed with newspaper, with a fake head on the top. While the bonfire burns kids used to sing "Remember, remember the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason and plot"

The idea was that you let fireworks off (to celebrate the gunpowder part of the plot) and then burn the Guy on the bonfire.

The actual conspirators weren't burnt, that would be barbaric; I believe they were hung, drawn (while still alive) and quartered, and then their severed heads were placed on spikes at the Tower of London until they rotted.

It was still a big deal with bonfiresd in most people's backywards when I was growing up, but mostly it's just official firework displays now as SO many people had been injured/killed by fireworks over the years.

Redcoat,

Either Jeff is a troll or he's completely blind. At this point, he either deserves pity or loathing.

After winning the Super Bowl, Doug Williams was asked, "What was the lowest point in your career?" He replied that once, when he was on the Bucs, he played a bad game and his team lost. A couple of days later, he got a package in the mail wrapped in beautiful paper with a bow on it. Inside the package was a rotten grapefruit. The grapefruit had a note attached to it: "If it wasn't for your black a*s, we would have won."

Despite playing in a time that was a lot less kind to black QBs, that was STILL the lowest point in Doug Williams' career. It's not just something that "goes with the territory" for anyone. Only someone who had never had an experience like that would say something so incredibly ignorant.

According to some, McNabb faces similar criticism: people in the Philly stands calling him the n-word when he plays badly.

Nobody in their right mind would compare the criticism Rex Grossman or Eli Manning gets to the type of hate I just described. If you do, you're a damn fool. Period.

And the same people that say "not everything is about race" are the people who say that *every time* an issue like this comes up. How many people have ever said, "Every single solitary thing in this world is about race"? McNabb never even said that his treatment was "all about race" - he just said it was a factor in the way people view his career. Nothing more, nothing less.

Jason blogged about it, so it's fair game. If you want to be annoyed that people are discussing this, be annoyed at him for bringing it up. Personally, I'm glad he allows stuff like that in every so often.

Big Fish,

Me too...

Huge game tonight... We have to turn it around now... 1.5 games is not much with 9 or 10 games to go... Reyes needs to pick his head up and sto pressing. He's got too much talent to be down on himself. Everybody has slumps but enough is enough... Willie and or Rickey need to give him a big pep talk if they haven't yet. I'm glad we have Pedro on the mound 2night. I'm trying my best to stay positive, but blowing the leads we keep blowing and the lack of production from a couple of key guys is really hurting.

I think Willie is taking some unfair criticism! It's a bit exaggerated. What is he supposed to say, 'Hey - we suck I think we're screwed, put a fork in us... we're done.' Come on... Now, granted, some of his comments have been a bit shocking considering the situation they are in... but no way he should loose his job if they continue to collapse. HOWEVER, if he's not getting in some players faces and challenging them and making understand the urgency of what they have left in the season... then he's not doing his job.

Rick Peterson needs to start coaching up this staff.. they have struggled since the all start break with their consistency...

Time to be Big Time, guys!

We are fickle people that care about winning and losing. If you don't think its that simple, I apologize.

These will be the best receivers the Redskins have faced yet. Despite the "Plexiglass" stuff, Plaxico has actually developed into a very dangerous receiver over the years. And Toomer is consistently good, especially against the 'Skins. I think the Redskins' secondary play will be the key to the game (along with the o-line, of course).

Very well put E in VB. I agree with everything you said but the number 1 problem IMO is the bullpen. Blowing leads like they have too often in the last couple weeks is just unacceptable, especially last night (horrible). Our offense keeps putting up the numbers but the bullpen keeps losing the games against bad tems like the Nats and the Marlins. Meanwhile Philly is hot on our tails. I hope things get turned around very quickly starting tonight.

You sound like a real Idiot with the whole black excuse thing. It was hardly ended just because Doug Williams raised the Lombardi trophy. You Idiot!!!!

As an airplane is about to crash, a female passenger jumps up frantically and announces, "If I'm going to die, I want to die feeling like a woman."

She removes all her clothing and asks, "Is there someone on this plane who is man enough to make me feel like a woman?"

A man stands up, removes his shirt and says, "Here, iron this!".

jcabana, maybe facing a better set of WRs in this game, but not necessarily a better QB. I would say Elisha is as capable of screwing up as old Trent Green and old, hurt McNabb, and far more susceptible to getting flustered than either of those two.

A husband and wife and their two sons are watching TV. She looks at her husband and winks at him, he gets the message and says, "Excuse us for a few minutes boys, we're going up to our room for a little while."

Pretty soon one of the boys becomes curious, goes upstairs and sees the door to his parents bedroom is ajar. He peeks in for a few minutes, trots downstairs, gets his little brother and takes him up to peek into the bedroom.

"Before you look in there," he says, "keep in mind this is the same woman who smacked our a$$es just for sucking our thumbs."

Bigfish... Very True.

The bullpen was the staple of this team last year. Now, it is the demise!

Philly is damn hot and they have become so accustomed to their skethcy pitching that they know they have to come from behind every game and it doesn't phase them anymore.... That is scary.

I know this is in 'olde English' but as a Brit it stirs my heart to hear it just the same.

I wonder whether anyone makes 'blood and thunder' type speeches in locker-rooms any more before games, or is it "remember your assignments, now go out and do your best" stuff now?

If we are marked to die, we are now
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.

God's will, I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It earns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires:
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.

No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England:
God's peace, I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more, methinks, would share from me,
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more.

Rather proclaim it presently through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart. His passport shall be made
And crowns for convoy put into his purse:
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.

This day is called the Feast of Crispian:
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a-tiptoe when the day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.

He that shall see this day and live to old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say "To-morrow is Saint Crispian":
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars
And say "These wounds I had on Crispin's day."

Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remembered.

This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he today that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now abed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap while any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

Shakespeare's version of Henry V's speech to his hugely outnumbered army before the Battle of Agincourt.

* St Crispin's Day is 10/25 so sadly no games that day this year!

As good as the D has been through 2 games, I'm still concerned by the number of times I've seen a third in long situation addressed by sending an all out blitz, only to see the D get burned for a first down.

That happened routinely last year during every single game. It isn't happening as much this year, but it's still happening.

At what point do you guys think the gamble will no longer be worth it in the eyes of Man Boobs? Never? Once they start producing turnovers without a blitz?

I agree with sween, Derrick Ward is a back of the Brian Westbrook/Tiki Barber variety that our stout defense tends to have trouble with. They're gonna have to wrap him up because he'll do some damage in the open field.

Posted by: etrod | September 21, 2007 2:35 PM

I think that a couple of the key's to this game are going to be:

1. Running the ball between the tackles, as well as running right at Strahan. I know that he's slowly working himself into shape, which combined with it being a hot day, we should wear his a$$ out.

2. Scoring EARLY, and OFTEN, to put them into a panic, and forcing them to throw. Their offensive line isn't anything to write home about, so Carter needs to bring it hot off the corner.

A Dallas Cowboy fan, a Washinton Redskin fan and Julia Roberts were all sitting together on the subway when the lights went out, and the car went completely dark. In the darkness there was a kissing noise, and then the sound of a really loud slap! When the subway car's lights came back on, Julia and the Redskin fan were sitting as if nothing happened, while the Cowboy fan was holding his slapped face! The Cowboy fan was thinking, "That Redskin fan must have kissed Julia, and she swung at him and missed, slapping me instead!" Meanwhile, Julia was thinking, "That Cowboy fan must have tried to kiss me, accidentally kissed the Redskin fan, and got slapped for it!" And the Redskin fan was thinking, "This is great! The next time the subway car's lights go out, I'll make another kissing noise and slap the crap out of that Cowboy fan again!"

There is a Redskins fan, a Giants fan, and a Cowboys fan that got caught drunk in Saudi Arabia, where it is highly illegal to consume alcohol. They are all sentenced to be whipped 200 times. Luckily the whipper was a football fan and seeing as they were too, he gave each of them one wish. The Giants fan was first, he asked if he could have a pillow tied to his back to make it hurt less. But the whip broke through the pillow after like 20 whips and the Giants fan was in extreme pain. The Cowboys fan saw what had happened, so he asked to have 2 pillows tied to his back, but the whip again broke through. Last was the Redskins fan. The whipper said "You are a redskins fan, the greatest team in the world, you are allowed 2 wishes!" So the Redskins fan thought for a minute. "For my first wish, i want to be whipped 1,000 times!" The whipper was confused. "For my second wish, tie the Cowboys fan to my back!!!"

Everyone in the class raises their hands except one little girl. The teacher looks at the little girl with surprise and says, "Jenny, why didn't you raise your hand?" Jenny replied, "Because I'm not a Cowboy fan!" The still shocked teacher asked, "Well, if you aren't a Cowboy fan, then who are you a fan of?" Jenny answered, "I'm a Redskin fan and proud of it!" The teacher couldn't believe her ears. "Jenny, why in the world are you a Redskin fan?!" Jenny replied, "Because my mom is a Redskin fan, my dad is a Redskin fan, so I'm a Redskin fan, too!" The teacher answered in a slightly annoyed tone, "That is no reason for you to be a Redskin fan! You don't have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if your mom was a moron and your dad was a moron, what would you be then?!" Jenny smiled and said, "Then I'd be a Dallas Cowboy fan!"

The coroner began his exam, he noticed an Eagles cap over the victim's left breast, he lifted it up, jotted a few words on his legal pad and continued his exam. He then noticed a Redskin's cap over the right breast of the victim he again looked under it and jotted a few more notes on his legal pad. Then the police officer said to him"what do you make of this"...pointing to a Cowboys hat covering the victim's crotch. Upon hearing that her elderly grandfather had just passed away, Katie went straight to her grandparent's house to visit her 95-year-old grandmother and comfort her.

When she asked how her grandfather had died, her grandmother replied, "He had a heart attack while we were making love on Sunday morning."

Horrified, Katie told her grandmother that 2 people nearly 100 years old having sex would surely be asking for trouble.

Oh no, my dear," replied granny. "Many years ago, realizing our advanced age, we figured out the best time to do it was when the church bells would start to ring. It was just the right rhythm. Nice and slow and even. Nothing too strenuous, simply in on the Ding and out on the Dong."

She paused to wipe away a tear, and continued, "He'd still be alive if the ice cream truck hadn't come along."

He gets to the dog, slips the stick through the collar and twists really hard, breaking the dog's neck and saving the man's life. A news reporter for the Washington Post was close by and witnessed the whole event. He rushes over to the hero and tells him he wants to put this in the paper with the head line: "Redskins Fan Saves Man from Imminent Death"

The boy replies "I am not a Redskins fan." Perplexed, the reporter asks "what kind of fan are you?" The boy replies " A Cowboy fan!" The reporter decides on another headline: "Ignorant Redneck Ba$tard Kills Family Pet."
