Best Guess - Eubanks to Be Promoted
John Eubanks is likely to be promoted from the practice squad to take Carlos Rogers's roster spot.
Very, very hard to find any kind of decent corners on the street this time of year, let alone the peak of the offseason. Very hard to come by.
The Skins are working out some LBs today to add to their emergency lists and stay on top of things with LBs Marcus Washington and HB Blades nursing some nagging injuries. Other than that, all quiet out here.
Carlos is in the building and may speak to the schlubs later, so I'll post what he says if we get a chance to grab him.

Maybe Eubanks will take over the Punt Returns as well, since he did it in the preseason and Randle El has emerged as the #1 WR this season...as it is somewhat taboo to have your #1 WR on PR these days in the NFL.

Wilbon has never been so right. Someone on that defense needed to take it upon themself to make sure Brady did not walk off the field by himself.
Oh I watched a football game last night and saw that teams were throwing the ball downfield. After watching the Redskins all season i didn't think that was a legal play. maybe we should try sometime this season

Jasno, we need some investigatory journalism up here. What is the deal with the injuries? Did they do something differently this past off season in the weight room or on the practice field? Is it an in between games issue? What other team has had so many injury issues? I can think of maybe Chicago and St. Louis.
If anything, all the injuries have exposed our lack of depth as a team. We can put a top 10 team on the field and by midseason they're a depth chart is like swiss cheese.
Anyone else want to continue beating this dead horse with me?

The Carlos injury has nothing to do with bad training or lack of stretching, etc. It was just bad luck. Every player from high school on fears it and knows it is always a possibility.
Posted by: Mike H. | October 30, 2007 12:44 PM
Can anybody tell me how many times we ran the same quick pass to the WR at the line of scrimmage? We need more variety in the play calling. I figured those passes were setting up the pump-n-go routes, but we didn't even try a pump-n-go.

Mike H. Thanks for getting in on the dead horse beating.
I would agree. The injury is about as preventable as the Jon Jansen injury. Freak stuff. Willis McGehee stuff.
So let's take the dead horse in another direction... a more metaphysical direction:
Are all these injuries because of the Native American curse? Will the Redskins be a high hoping, hopelessly woeful team until the franchise changes their team name and logos?
Posted by: Dorf | October 30, 2007 12:51 PM
We are running out of linebackers, DBs, and O-linemen. Not really a recipe for success in the NFL.
Posted by: Max | October 30, 2007 12:52 PM
My concern is not the freak injuries, but the hamstrings and groins lead me to believe the team is not stretching properly. Those can be avoided. You don't see 1/2 of New Englands team sitting out with groin and hamstring injuries.
Posted by: Max | October 30, 2007 12:54 PM
I love the Redskins name and logo! I am not offended by its depiction of Native Americans and the way a multi-billion dollar franchise profits off of its likeness to a neglected and ironically disenfranchised group of people.
Posted by: not sfskin | October 30, 2007 12:55 PM
I know it was the patriots but the looked like Maryland out there. The game showed how far Joe Gibbs is from the best coaches in the league. It was not contest. Coach Joe had better start looking for talent and smarts instead of character and guys that HE perceives as fighting their guts out. It was no contest in the talent level, the execution, the mental aspect, and the coaching. So if Joe Gibbs was supposed to come back and build a winner, he might as well just quit now and let someone else start all over again.

Posted by: BettyJo Bialosky | October 30, 2007 12:59 PM
Tough season on the injury front for this team. Our d-line and QB and TE are the only places we've been pretty healthy all year.
Portis looks like he is hurting, both our top WRs are dealing with muscle pulls. The o line has been hit hard. Both outside LBs are hurting. Smoot has a hamstring and Rogers is out.
Needed to be pretty healthy to make the playoffs and we are near the edge on this. We're already passed the bye week and hit the halfway point on Sunday. This is one of those 'hang tough' kind of seasons

If skins fans can't see it, let me tell you. The skins are in trouble. They have no offensive line. Even if Jansen was there he would have been man-handled also. Did you see how Chris Samuels was literally picked up off both feet and shoved into Jason. The wideouts were shut down as NE wideouts had all the separation they needed. The defense was always 2 steps behind NE, mentally, and physically, and we have no kick-off or punt returned. I hope they put Eubanks back for the remainder of the season. Oh, and need I mention the running game?

Maybe if they had spent the 1000 years before Chris Columbus sailed the ocean blue inventing weapons and mastering warfare like Europe did instead of becoming one with nature or planting corn or whatever nonsense they were up to, they would still have their own lands and they could decide how to name a football team. As it is, they can stick to naming their casinos.

A lot of people don't like Gibbs as FO guy. But he seems to be getting better. Give him credit when it comes to the draft. Which makes it all the crazier that he gives away the picks. Landry, Campbell, McIntosh and Taylor are front line players. A lot of top picks are complete busts. We've had none of those. Rogers is serviceable, though not a standout. And we've had some success down in the draft as well. Golston, Montgomery and Blades all look like players at the NFL level.
On the free agent front, he has been it and miss. Fletcher and ARE are recent hits, BLloyd and Arch are recent disasters. But he brought in Griffin Carter Kendall Rabach among others.
The Skins starting talent is among the top 10 in the league. Trouble is, too many starters are out (Thomas, Jansen), hurting (Smoot, Washington) and/or are underachieving (Moss, Portis).
At 4-3, we've got a real shot at the playoffs. Especially if Santana can step up.

Let's not make excuses for this team. If the entire squad was healthy they still would have gotten beaten 52-7. So much for the 5th ranked defense. I guess they'll be 25th next week. At least Dallas LOOKED LIKE they were going to win until the 4th quarter. The tone for the skins was set during the first NE drive and never changed, it just got worse. I guess skins fans think they can beat Dallas huh?

What disturbs me most about this team is their "play not to lose" philosophy. It covers the entire team. No blitzes, no passing game, no sweeps, no creativity whatsoever. The league is now DOMINATED by big plays. Washington doesn't believe in it, thus their fall to the bottom of the NFC East. They have the playmakers, but aren't utilizing them to make plays, only to not make poor plays. UGH!

Keedrow, the OL should improve significantly for the final stretch, because Randy Thomas should be back in a few weeks. Samuels, Rabach and Kendall are above average linemen and Wade should also benefit from playing next to Thomas. This will immediately improve the stagnant running game. If they beat 1-7 Jets, and either Eagles at home or Dallas on the road, they will be 6-4 and in good shape for the final run. Division opponents with the exception of Eagles have been lucky to stay relatively healthy, but the luck in this league can turn quickly.

Did you see how NE executed it's plays? The skins can't even execute a screen play with percision. Even on the first offensive play that almost was intercepted. Why would you call such a play on first down, relying on a RB to cut a DE. Here's the difference. The redskin defensive player WOULD have been cut and probably never would have gotten up while NE's player not only avoided the cut but also almost intercepted the pass.
Posted by: keedrow | October 30, 2007 1:31 PM

The best thing for a WR to do when the QB throws immediately to the WR at the line of scrimmage is to block the CB (as Thrash did) so that he can't intercept it and run it back for a TD.

Sorry I'm late on this. Regarding that 'I don't blame Belichick post', I can't believe it. I cannot believe I just read that. I don't want to get high and mighty but I think it's inevitable.
Would you coach your son that way? Would you tell him: 'Pick on the weaker kids to make yourself feel better'? See that fat kid over there? Yeah son, go mock him and then steal his money while he's crying.
If you've played sports at any kind of level (even down in little league) then you have the slightest inclination as to how astoundingly bush league running up the score is. I don't want the league to set aside the result because the pats are mean. What I do want is for the general public to realize that this is not the way you do things. And frankly, it starts with those that cover the teams.
Once it's 38-0 in the 4th, the game is over. We haven't managed a loud sneeze on offense and we haven't stopped a thing on D. Going on 4th (what do you want me to do, kick a field goal?), throwing bombs to Moss, running the spread and keeping Brady in there to pad his stats is an obnoxious slap in the face.
What were you doing when Jerry Glanville was running up the score when he coached Houston? Calling him a stud? Was he chasing ghosts? We all know that he was a classless a-hole and he got what's coming to him. Remember when Houston got worse and the Bengals, under Sam Wyche called timeout to bring in the FG kicker to make it 61-7? I do.
You don't do that to grown men, to professionals, amateurs, kids. You beat us fair and square. You kicked our butts. Shake hands and go onto the next one.
When you lionize a despicable cheater with 0 character and regard for his fellow professionals, you do a great disservice to those that have spent their lives playing and coaching others the right way. It is insulting to read a canonization of a guy that would have his head thrown at on a baseball field.
There are rules in sports and then there are rules of sports. This bitter, self-serving goon does not obey either. I am still shocked and dismayed that anyone can say that's he's doing the right things when any little league coach in America would tell you that its smug and gutless and completely without class. There is no justification and no way to explain it away; especially if you have been on both sides of beatings in your athletic career.
Am I frustrated with the skins inability to stop them or score? Of course. I'm more frustrated that we didn't go down fighting. You want to leave Brady in to run up the score? Fine, here's a late hit and a broken femur. Enjoy your playoff run.
As disappointed as I am in the skins, my sadness is tenfold at the reactions of those that cover the games. JLC, I can't believe it. I only hope you intend to raise your son better than the words you typed. Anything but a condemnation of this despicable scumbag endorses values that are not welcome in a civilized world.
Respectfully submitted,

For the rest of you, who are not American Indians, I hope you can forgive me when you drive home tonight on a highway built over indian hunting grounds, accross the bridge over a river where indian canoes used to paddle, to your home built where teepees once dotted the landscape. I'm sure you can find an American Indian to sign your deed over to, since you feel so bad.

We get up in arms about the jaw-jacking, dancing in the endzone and call it a disgrace. The NFL jumps on the players about their off field lives and give the reasoning that kids are watching, set a good example. Is Belijerk setting a good example? This not sour grapes because I have seen the Redskins dish out, what they got but during these game it was never let spread them out, it was we going to run and run and run to the clock strikes 0.

Just got done reading the back and forth with Mike H. While I don't agree with exactly how he put that wonderful piece of, well you know, back then thats the way it was. It was survival of the fittest, I mean that was over 500 years ago. While Germans, Irish, British, and Dutch were busy trying to buy land for rocks and beads, at least they weren't committing genocide like the Portugese and Spanish of those days. I would put those acts right up there with the holocaust (Jewish genocide) and enslavement. Although, slavery was more a product of tribes of Africa capturing each others members and selling them to the white folk, as opposed to the white folk just plucking up innocent bystanders on the road.

Glad to see Wilbon calling out Grilliams and company for being so soft on Defense and not taking a stand. I for one, liked the Reaper about 30 pounds heavier as an enforcer. Until you get another LaVar heart and soul hitter, the team has no nastiness with Sean as a finnesse saftey. He doesn't hit anymore out in space anymore. His fellow Cane Ed Reed over in B-more can do the finnesse thing because Ray-Ray keeps it nasty at the LB spot. Say what you want about Landry, where was he when we needed someone to blow up Brady on those runs or the back-up QB on the runs. He's not blowing people up. Marcus Washington is starting to remind me of a toothless lion as well.
Once you are down by 30+ its time to start blitzing and just body slamming Brady. He's such a punk.
What in the heck is wrong with Macklin? I thought he looked decent in the pre-season and I know he had a couple picks last year for Zona. Actually I was wondering why they did not put Seantay on Moss. Torrance does not impress me, too dang small. Actually he is like 5'8 and Randy Moss
was like 6'5. It was embarassing to watch him try to cover Moss. Rogers was decent in Run support and at least manned up after the cushion for intermediate routes. Torrance just invites throws down near the end-zone.
Depth kills us again.
Also, can we get old man Mcardel back out there? Also put frickin Lloyd in there. Best case he gets hurt and we do an injury settlement right? Thrash just is not reliable. He runs out of bounds on the sideline routes all time, or can't get open.

Not Westbrook? Hmm... okay.
