From the Practice Field...
Jasno phoned to tell us who's present and who's missing from the afternoon practice:
Shawn Springs remains with his father; there's no change in Ron Springs' condition.
As for the offensive line, Casey Rabach, Todd Wade and Stephon Heyer (along with, obviously, Randy Thomas) were not on the field. The surprise, though, was that Pete Kendall was missing. He wasn't listed among the injuried players Monday and the Redskins said today they are resting him. But that's curious, given that they barely have enough players to man the line in practice. Joe Gibbs will be asked about that later and we'll update you.
Rabach and Wade continue to say they'll play Sunday against Arizona, but they'll practice Friday at the earliest. Jason Fabini expects to work at tackle this week with Rick DeMulling at guard. With so few offensive linemen available, defensive lineman Lorenzo Alexander will be playing reserve guard all week in practice and said he has been told to be prepared to play either offense or defense Sunday. Alexander worked with the offensive line during organized team activities. Marcus Washington was on the field in pads, but was not expected to participate in the full practice.

More notes from the park:
- Brandon Loyd was seen practicing with the second team OL.
- Joe Gibbs thinks if we can cover the Arizona WR's they won't get many points off the pass.
- The Redskins are having problems running the ball between the tackles.
- Nick Novak was see on the practice field showing Loyd how to block against the pass rush.

This game is on the defense and hoping the offense can get put points on the board. Because neither team is likely to move the ball. The Skins O-line is seriously hurting, Santana has been awful and ARE may still be hurting. CP doesn't seem right either.
And our offense is still better than AZ. Because they will bring Tim Rattay to town. A 3rd string QB with only 2 weeks of practice under his belt.
A few big plays probably decide the game. Campbell is capable of that, even with his teammates struggling/hurting. No turnovers, no silly mistakes and don't let special teams beat you. And the Skins go to 4-2
Posted by: AL | October 17, 2007 2:34 PM

No chance of a loss to Az. D is plenty tough to handle AZ O. Same sort of recievers as Detroit. Moss will have monster bounceback.

I am very happy the Redskins did not draft an offensive lineman in the 6th or 7th round this year. We would be in a world of hurt if we did that. It is also very good that we did not trade Betts for a lineman yesterday since Pucillo can back up Pucillo after Pucillo has gone into the game. No stress here. No siree!

I've posted this analysis of top passing and rushing offenses and the correlation with the top five teams on an earlier blog, but it looks like the discussion has already moved here. I used the team stats for rushing and passing rather stats for individual running backs. The top 5 teams in rushing (YPG) are:
Vickings
Steelers
Raiders
Jaguars
Colts
Three teams with 1 loss.
The top five in passing are:
Patriots
Bengals
Packers
Cowboys
Lions
Also, three teams with 1 loss.
Lets look how Pats, Colts, Steelers, Jaguars, Cowboys and Packers rank in both categories (run and pass):
Pats - 7th in rushing; 1st in passing
Colts - 5th in rushing; 7th in passing
Steelers- 2nd in rushing; 27th in passing
Jaguars - 4th in rushing; 21st in passing
Cowboys - 11th in rushing; 3rd in passing
Packers - 32nd in rushing; 4th in passing.
All teams, with the exception of Packers, have above average rushing game. I also think that Packers are the weakest team among one loss teams, but I may be wrong. Among these teams, only Jaguars and Steelers have below average passing game (but both teams have top defenses and their QBs manage the game well and don't make too many mistakes). In fact most of these teams have very good defenses. In points allowed per game, they rank:
Steelers - 1
Jaguars - 2
Pats - 6
Colts - 11
Packers - 12
Dallas - 24
I think the key is balance and a bit of luck. Based upon these numbers Packers and Dallas are at the greatest risk of falling behind the leaders. Dallas' flaw is its No. 24 defense, while Packers are one-dimensional on offense. Steelers and Jags are also one-dimentional on offense, but they have two of the best defenses. Pats and Colts have the best balance of all these teams, which explains why they are the class of the NFL at the moment. Please note that I am not taking into account strenth of schedule or special teams play, although it would have been fun to factor it if I had time.
Now to put Redskins in prospective, they have no. 3 defense, no. 18 passing offense and no. 14 rushing offense (and no 16 in total offense). In other words, stellar defense and average offense. The special teams are also good. Barring more injuries, they should be able to make playoffs. The offense should improve if Jason Campbell continues his rapid improvement. If the offensive line heals by the end of the season and Randy Thomas comes back close to 100% or someone significantly steps up his game on offense (I know these are big ifs), they could be a very dangerous team in playoffs. Given the parity in the NFC, they are in a dogfight for the playoff position. Their current goal is to have at least 2-2 record in October, i.e. to beat either Arizona at home(likely) or Pats in Foxborough (unlikely). If they get one win, they will enter November with a 4-3 record to play Jets, Eagles, Cowboys and Bucs. By December, we will know a lot more about this team, but I think that they will be in the playoff hunt.

As to M, who's apparently channeling Megskin in one way or another, I'd say it comes down to a LOT of luck, at this point. Most of those teams you list at the top are one critical injury away from falling out of the top. That given, pretty much agree with the assessment.

Passing yards is not the same as how effective the passing offense is. Lots of so-so teams have lots of yards because they are behind and throwing every down. Look at passer rating ... a much better view of the passing game ... and you'll see the difference. Teams with top passers are also the top teams. As long as you also have a defense, that is

True enough, AL. I wonder if some spurious statistic like "Points Scored Per Offensive Series" and "Points Allowed Per Defensive Series" would be a better gauge of team effectiveness.
There would be lethally bad faults in using such a gauge right along with total offense and defense, but that's just statistics in general for you.
Posted by: FlimFlam | October 17, 2007 3:59 PM
Because M, its a clear as it can be. The teams that have a QB with 90+ rating and a top 10 defense are ...
Dallas, NE, Indy, Pitts, Jax
In most power ratings, those ARE the top 5 teams.
By just looking at total passing yards, you miss important things ... like Garrard has thrown zero (!!) INTs.
A nice running game will help the passing game. But you must be able to pass effectively to be a top team in this league.

And that analysis ... 90+ passer rating and top ten defense. The Skins would probably have that if Santana had brought his 2005 game into 2007. They'd be 4-1 or 5-0.
The Skins have the ability to be one of those top tier teams. My concern was that the QB would hold us back, even though I liked Campbell. Well, he has been terrific the past two games. Real Deal. Its the guys dropping passes that held us back at GB.

True, but a high passer rating does not mean it's a pass first offense. It just means smart pass play.
A QB can earn a 99.7% passer rating (which puts him in the top 5) with nothing more then averaging 150 YPG, 1 TDPG, just by not turning over the ball and completing over 77% of his passes.
You can't tell me a team is winning games with only 1 TD and less then 150 YPG. No, passer ratings tells you who has the smart QB, willing to dink and dunk when the long ball isn't there, limits the turnovers and can manage a game. All very important for a team wanting to go all the way. But it just does not support the arugment that a high QB rating means the team is a pass first offense.

How's everyone ....been awhile....tuff one to take sunday, the old snatched defeat from the jaws of victory....Just a case of a team trying to take the next step...the way this league is now (esp nfc) its all right in front of us if we can learn to finish....in order for that to happen we have to have our "differernce makers" make a play some where in the game to keep the momentum from changing to the other side... that play could be a third down pass/ run/ catch that keeps a drive alive or it could be an obvious big play...point is to make a play ,and have it be made by one of the leaders of your team .....all good teams consistently have play makers who step up....to get to the top level we need this..

ESPN Insider: Campbell much better than his numbers show
By Jeremy Green
After watching Washington QB Jason Campbell over the past few weeks I wanted to go back into the film room and really break him down. What I saw after looking at tapes is that he is rapidly developing into one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL.
That statement is tough to back up statistically because Campbell has just 198 completions in 357 attempts (55 percent completion percentage) in his career. He's thrown 15 TD passes, 10 interceptions and posted a QB rating of 78.5 in less than a year as a full-time starter. This season, he has thrown five touchdowns to four interceptions, which are not exactly numbers that make you say "wow." But consider he plays in a run-first offense and head coach Joe Gibbs would like to run the ball 35 or more times per game. That does not lend itself to gaudy numbers from the QB position.
However, what does make you say "wow" is how quickly he has picked up the Washington offense. Offensive coordinator Al Saunders has one of the most extensive playbooks in the NFL and Campbell is leaps and bounds ahead of where he was last season. I talked to an offensive coach in Washington who told me how Campbell was the first one in and the last one out of the building all offseason and it is starting to pay dividends on the field.
At 6-foot-5, 230 pounds, Campbell has excellent size for the position and while he looks like a big pocket passer, he has very good mobility and can make plays inside and outside the pocket. He is smooth in his movements and can throw on the move with very little wasted motion in his timing and release.
He has also developed a feel for pressure as well. In the Green Bay game on Sunday, there were numerous occasions where he had back side blitz pressure which he did not see it, but he felt and was able to step up and deliver a solid strike. Some young QBs do not have a feel for pressure and will step the wrong way, but not Campbell. Of all the pressures I saw on Campbell there was only one occasion where he stepped towards the pressure rather then up or away from it. That can be a hard aspect of the game for a young QB to learn.
Campbell also has an outstanding arm and can make all the throws in Saunders' offense. When I say all the throws, I mean that he can zip the out route, zip it into the deep curls, throw the comeback route with excellent accuracy and he even throws a beautiful deep ball. Those are all tough throws to make, but Campbell can make them all.
One area Campbell has really developed his game is his touch on passes. His touch and accuracy on the short to underneath routes is much better than it was last season. Statistically this is tough to see in the numbers, but he has been riddled with a ton of drops by his receivers. On Sunday, Campbell threw 16 incomplete passes, but six were drops by his receivers, another two that were questionable and one that went off his receiver's hands for an interception. On some of those throws, which were in the short to intermediate passing zones, Campbell did an excellent job of taking something off the ball or leading his receiver to allow him to make a play after the catch. He has learned to fit the ball between the LB and the safety, like he did in Week 6 on two throws to TE Chris Cooley. Plus, his deep ball accuracy is much better as seen by the throw he put right on the hands of WR Santana Moss that Moss dropped.
Campbell has always been a solid passer, but what was most impressive on tape was his development of understanding defenses. His field vision and awareness are leaps and bounds above where they were last season. Plus, he is much quicker with his progression, which helps the ball gets out of his hand on time.
Campbell does not get the accolades of some of the other young quarterbacks in the NFL because the numbers are not going to be there in a Gibbs-coached offense. However, when you break him down, he is every bit as solid as other QBs around the NFL with similar starting experience. Campbell is good enough to carry this team to the playoffs. Now he just needs the coaching staff to allow him to do it and a little help from the guys around him who need to start holding onto the football. Time will tell, but Campbell is quickly emerging into a solid starting QB in the NFL.

I guess the better question is who will be throwing the Cardinals receivers the ball. It doesn't really matter who's out there to catch the ball if it never gets to them.
Apparently, Fitzgerald has developed a propensity to fumble over the past several games: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/playerbreakingnews.asp?sport=NFL&id=1661&line=101707&spln=1
Sounds like a good target for our DBs.

Normally, Carlos "Double Move" Rogers is a pretty solid open field tackler.
Two mis-tackles this year have proven to be very costly:
1. Plaxico Burress' 33 yard TD catch thanks to Double Move's mistackle.
Giants win: 24-17
2. Donald Lee's 60 yard catch that went all the way to the 3 yard line thanks to #22 tackling high/bouncing off of a man with 50+ lbs more on him.
Packers win: 17-14
I'm pretty sure TOs and 3rd down completions have a lot to do with those losses as well, but those two plays do a lot to the score board.

Back on the Skins, maaaaan, I hope someone was right that Rogers' pick/TD at the end of the Lions game represented a turning point for him.
I want Lloyd, Brandon to succeed only b/c of the investment in him (i.e., an outstanding debt for which he is currently in arrears), but I don't have animosity toward Rogers. I JUST WANT HIM TO HANG ONTO HIS PICKS. I agree though that some of the opposing offenses' "big plays" do seem to have come off of Rogers in the open field (or lack thereof).

Anon at 4:22 -- If someone offered you a QB that completes 77% of his passes (who does that? Brady is at 72 and Manning is just below 70!!!!) and threw 1 TD a game and never threw an INT and threw for 150 yards, thats a very effective guy!!! I mean think about it. 16 TDs and ZERO ints and 77% completion!! Very effective. fyi -- I see only 6 QBs that average 1 TD a game more than INTs !!! So 16 at the end of a season, 16TDs more than INTs would be a very good number for anyone not named Brady or Manning.
If a team could do that, then it probably means they can also run the ball because otherwise there would be no reason not to pass!!!

Answer key:
@) Moss and ARE were MIA [WRONG ANSWER: Chambers and Lemon are MIA. Moss and ARE are WAS]
i) The defense wasn't good enough [WRONG ANSWER: They were good enough, strong enough, and gosh darn it, people like them]
9) Farve just couldn't connect with Sean T. [WRONG ANSWER: 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Would have accepted RockyMac is not a TD return guy.]
x) musical chairs on the OL [WRONG ANSWER: There were plenty of chairs when the music stopped at the half.]
#) Poor time management [WRONG ANSWER: A lost lead requires players to step it up, not coaches to get better clocks.]
7) Double reverse [RIGHT ANSWER: Probably shouldn't have been called ... or shouldn't have been set so that the last guy with his hands on the ball is the guy with eight drops on the day ... but after the drop, not enough guys swarmed to the ball like they do on defense.]

That article on Campbell was dead on. Saw exactly what I saw. He is so far ahead of where I would have expected him to be ... or any other QB for that matter at this stage. Of all the potentially good young QBs, only Big Ben, Tony Romo and Vince Young are looking better than Campbell. And thats because they are winning. Young is an amazing runner and thats a huge asset ... but running QBs have a tendency to get hurt. But Campbell has passed Leinart, Cutler, Rivers, Smith, etc,
Campbell outplayed Favre in Green Bay!!! That is saying something.
And fwiw ... against GB, the Skins first 8 possessions. Two ended in TDs. Two times the Packer d stopped the Skins -- once on a slight overthrow by Campbell to Moss. Three times the drive ended with a dropped pass on 3rd down which would have gotten a 1st ... all pretty easy catches (including the INT) ... and the 8th possession was Moss's fumble.
And of course, Campbell just missed Lloyd on a likely TD, got a 30 yard completion to Thrash called back on due to offsetting penalties and had Santana drop that long ball which would have set up 1st and goal.
If all those plays are all made ... Campbell's stat line would have been excellent ... and the Skins would have won, probably pulling away.
Posted by: AL | October 17, 2007 6:06 PM
I recall watching a Skins game and on the sideline, and Sonny was talking to a young Joe Theisman ... yup that goes back a while. When they showed Sonny the clip and asked him what he told Joe, he said this.
"I was telling him that when your back is running wide, its your job (as QB) to trail the play so if there is a fumble, you are there to fall on it."
If you look at the reverse, Campbell actually tries to get into the play and block ahead of the runner. Now I doubt Sonny would have ever even thought about throwing a block, but he had a great point. That little tip might have made a difference in the GB game.
Its not just Campbell that doesn't do this, but you see it across the board, where a fumble on a wide play results in a TD for the other team.

AL
your a FUC**** Idiot and SERIOUS KOOL-AIDE drinker!
Posted by: jm220 | October 17, 2007 7:00 PM
JM, again we disagree. Campbell played much better than Favre ... but his receivers were a disaster. Santana drops one into the arms of a DB that turns a 1st down in FG position into an INT. And he drops another long one that woulda set up 1st and goal. Randle El drops an easy 1st down catch on a 3rd down play in GB territory. Hit him btwn the 8 and 2. And Sellers dropped another 3rd down drive ender early in the 3rd quarter. And Campbell has a 30+ yard completion to Thrash called back. If his guys catch the ball, Campbell has 1TD, no INTs and 300 yards. Campbell did make a couple mistakes. He just missed Lloyd on a makeable but difficult catch. And his choice to throw to Betts on 4th down was his other major mistake.
Meanwhile, Favre throws 2 INTs, though the refs did rob him of a TD pass.
Yup Campbell outplayed Favre, no doubt about it. But Campbell's receivers hurt him a ton.

Posted by: jm220 | October 17, 2007 7:19 PM
Also, this week watch for Landry to be brought up into the box for run coverage. With the Card's QB sitch, they have to rely on their O-line (including off-season upgrades with Gandy and Levi Brown ... I don't consider Lutui an upgrade) to make lanes for the Edge.
If there is a trap here, its that the Skins need to put on their rush defense. So far, the domination we've seen is the pass defense.
Posted by: dcsween | October 17, 2007 11:40 AM
We aren't the only ones with injury issues. Leinart is on IR, as is starting right tackle Oliver Ross. Kurt Warner is doubtful to play this weekend. Karlos Dansby has a sprained knee and will miss 3-4 weeks. RT Levi Brown has missed the past three games with an ankle injury, but is attempting to return to practice this week. Anquan Boldin has missed the past few games with a hip injury but is expected to play.
Sounds like we should attack the right side of their line, even if Brown does play, he's a rookie on a bum ankle.

Posted by: kost52 | October 17, 2007 7:36 PM
kost52 you are right. I was the one that kept calling for JC last year and said he will be good.
Posted by: jm220 | October 17, 2007 7:39 PM
JM, 40 guys on a team. One guy can't win it by himself ... and even you know that. As for Jason's stats compared to the other guys, have to admit I haven't seen guys like Schaub play. But Cutler wouldn't scare me if he brought a grizzly bear with him.
Campbell has really improved the last 2 games over the first 3. I was really pleased by what happened in Detroit, but that was against a poor defense playing badly. GB is a good defense. Lambeau is a tough place to play. Throw in the bad weather and you have a recipe for a young QB to play poorly. But he didn't. He played well. Close to the level he played at against Detroit. Though the numbers and result were very different.
As for sacks, his o-line was in tatters by the end and it was pretty bad. Still, he moved the team to the GB 30 before throwing to the wrong guy on 4th down. His INT on Sunday went threw Santana's hands on a very well thown pass. Otherwise, he'd be around 100 passes without an INT.
He did overthrow a couple of times, Moss on a short play very early on and Lloyd late in the game. But mostly, he made good throws, even under pressure. And he threw the ball away a couple times when nothing was open.
Which brings me back to my point. I've watched football for a long time and Campbell was really good against GB. The game may have been ugly, but Campbell is a pearl at QB.
Posted by: AL | October 17, 2007 7:39 PM
kost52 you are right. Remember I kept calling for JC last year and said he would be good. He does need to get a little better touch on the deep throws. But overall everyone has to say he has steped up big time.

they have said in the past they were locking down, even tracking web usage. but only now have they put together enough of a package that all employees must take (training)... that they just might follow through.
personally, i do work that has down time every minute for about 15 seconds as my databases refresh (or if i wait to five minutes then refresh it is a little over a minute of downtime), so i would be sitting there anyway. that is why there is no loss of production, and no evidence of goofing off. they would have to track a lot of users at my company, so i guess til this point they did not think it was cost effective.

If you want to see how good the D is goto NFL.com and look at the team stats for defense. Sort any column and the Redskins at near the top. If we can get the O working we could be going places. If not, hello 8-8.
Posted by: noone from tampa | October 17, 2007 8:21 PM
Thats the question i have noone;
since we submit our posts to the blog, it is sending a packet back and forth, versus just going on a site and reading lets say.
i always thought that if you click links (packet sent) or post things (packet sent) then the IT gurus can key into that much more than say just having ie open on your pc.
I just keep it open and have done so for a year and no one has said anything... then i began blogging.
I know they have discouraged us from streaming as it eats up bandwidth, but are they really tracking how long you are connected to the internet, or just the traffic you are creating.
Posted by: Zebra | October 17, 2007 8:23 PM
zebra, from sitting with the network guys, they can track the amount of time spent at each url, data sent, data recieved, all kinds of scary things...
So I just open 3-4 browser windows each morning to screw with them and cover my true evil intentions. :)
lol
Posted by: noone from tampa | October 17, 2007 8:32 PM
Exactly why now i cant blog from work.
I still dont think they are going to track as such, but its not worth it and they are finally putting on a good enough show for my taste.

Funny aside, my son recently has it in him to dance. poor goofy white kid, i try to work with his hips when he dances so he wont be like daddy, but he is all upper torso and arm movement... sterotypical, proves that it really is genetics

Sorry for killing the blog with the Luigi's comment. CL and Nate will come revive it soon.

much funnier post with back, must be channeling Jasno. Famous Scottish dance think Lord of the Dance except you're lying on your back. Much quieter that way. Not all that loud clomping sounds

SMACK - We have a lighthouse??
Russia defeating England doesn't surprise me. That Guus Hiddinck is one hell of a coach! The entire Australian soccer nation all but cried when he signed an extension with the Ruskies. We had been holding out hope he would come back to us after Euro 2008. Now it looks like we're after Mijnheer Advocaat.

I personally don't blame the skins' management for "depth" problems. Think about this: the skins have lost their starting RT, starting RG, starting C, backup RT, and 3rd-string RT all within the first five weeks of the season. No team would be able to experience that and be able to keep their play on the same level as before. Not to mention that even with that, they still are able to fill in the line with experienced players (pucillo, demulling, fabini). Management did not fail with "depth". It's just been a freakish first five weeks that no team in the nfl would be properly equipped to cope with.

Probably some indifferent PA put the wrong city on the tape label. They do it all the time. I saw a lighthouse. Speaking of labels, I didn't realize this Railbender Ale was 6.8%. Sorry in advance, blog!

Does Guus speak Russian? Do these Russian player speak Dutch? Do they all speak English?
It amazes me how these international teams come together under a coach. One game last year, Arsenal sent out 11 players from 11 different countries.
Balance, Maps, Panties, 6.8

Slovenia IS a real country. I was there. A guy I met there said the locals joke about how small the country is. When we play soccer, he said, we have to put one goal post in Italy and the other in Crotia, but we own the midfield. PS --Slovakia is also a real country, but Slovonia is just a region.
And just for grins try pronouncing the capital of Slovenia:
Ljubljana

Was just kidding SMACK, I'm pretty sure we have multiple lighthouses. I had a New Zealand beer last night which was very different. Was call Monteith's Radler Zesty Bier. Apparently it's brewed like a normal beer, then as it's bottle, has lemon added to it. Tasted like one of those lolly water girl drinks. The g/f loved it!
The way they overcome the language barrier amazes me also, and then when you add a referee who is meant to communicate with all these players as well!
anon- Well said, I agree.

kost did you hear the deal about Rosicky's muscles? Some of them work better than others? This is like the OJ Simpson of soccer defenses. Bizarre.

Also from Slovenia. I was at Lake Bled. Very pretty area. Takes about an hour to walk around it. In the middle of Lake Bled there is an island called Otok with a church that looks right out of Disney. For a pic:
http://www.pbase.com/faerie_39/image/54198528
I asked what Otok means and the guy says it means 'the island'. Because its the only island in the entire country!! And Bled, I asked. It means 'the lake' because its the only lake in the entire country. So then pointed to this woman. She is deskot. I took one look at this scary lady and he nodded. The moral of the story. No matter how small your country ... you need more than one hooker.

King Card hanging around this blog reminds me of a guy in my old neighborhood.
Did not have a swimming pool at his place... but was always walking by or coming over in his swimsuit...talking about the weather, this and that, hoping to be invited to take a dip...
go back to your trailer King Card, pop out that awning and the lawn chair, read about Warners bum wheels and the new Stadium.
Posted by: DTC | October 17, 2007 10:23 PM
I got tired of reading about Warner, everything's swinging about the new stadium, so thought I'd go slumming and visit my new friends in low places....
Remember, you have two opponents on Sunday and we only have one. You're fighting the Cardinals and yourselves, and we only have you in our sights.

(Sung to the Christmas tune Joy to the World)
Here come the Cards
To FedEx field
Where you will look like chumps
Your defense is ferocious
Your offense is atrocious
Santana will cry "Boo-Hoo"
And Portis will fumble too
And though we may be average
That's enough to beat you.....
Posted by: King Card | October 17, 2007 10:44 PM
By the way, as far as those Cowboys fans go, I believe that their family tree is a stick.....

I like your syle King Card..Funny stuff
But cmon bro..you really think you'll win this week-end?
Posted by: OC Skins | October 17, 2007 10:50 PM
I have some cousins who are Cardinal fans (my uncle's family is from Arizona) and this game has Thanksgiving weekend bragging rights implications...
Gotta pull it out!
King Card, nice Xmas songs... stay classy.
Posted by: Dorf | October 17, 2007 11:07 PM
Actually I do. But I think it's more likely you'll beat yourselves and we'll just take advantage of your mistakes.
1. There's no way we can drive 80 yards on your Hungry-Man defense more than once (even with your weak link of Carlos Rogers)
2. Your offense will turn the ball over at least three times. Two of those will happen on your own side of the field. That means a short field for us. Even the Rat-man won't f*** that opportunity up.
3. You lost a conference heartbreaker last weekend to an inferior team and there's simply no way you can beat the Pats next weekend. You guys know that. Those dudes are in a zone. The best defense will most likely hold them to 21 points, and there's no way in God's green earth you're going to put 22 or more points on the Pats with your offense.
4. So your backs are against the wall now, and you know better than I do what that means: when it's time to step up, Washington steps aside. Trust me, I know stepping aside when I see it. We had the Bears on life support last year and damn if we didn't put the paddles to their chest and bring 'em back from the dead.
I feel for you guys, but not enough to give you this win. We'll squeak it out and you'll be 2/3 of the way through a 3-game losing streak. Let the freefall begin.
Shame though. You guys have an all-world defense going (save Carlos Rogers, who plays like Mr. Rogers most of the time.)

You folks are great! You keep a good sense of humor about it. Lots of the other blogs get way too bitter about a little back and forth between fans. You're a class blog!
Posted by: King Card | October 17, 2007 11:11 PM
Just to be totally fair, I will be on this blog Sunday for a 1st class beat down if the unthinkable happens and the Cards lose.
That would be pretty cheesy not to give you the opportunity to shove it down my throat.
Posted by: King Card | October 17, 2007 11:19 PM
When was the last time the Cards made the playoffs? Jimmy Carter era maybe?? And Green did not catch the ball, incomplete I was there!!!

King Card is an idiot.....thought that only applied to Cowboy fans....

From my Fantasy Tip sheet about Warner:
News: Three days after he tore a ligament in his left elbow, Cardinals QB Kurt Warner hopes he'll play Sunday (Week 7) at Washington. It's too early to tell whether he will. "Would I love to play on Sunday? Sure I would," Warner said after limited participation in Wednesday's practice. "I'm going to go forward with the idea that I can. But we've just got to weigh all the options and make sure that it's something that I can do."
Analysis: Warner said doctors told him he's not risking a worse injury by playing. The biggest issue, Warner said, may be finding the right brace. Warner tried several at practice, but had trouble finding one that provided enough support for the badly swollen joint on his non-throwing arm. He said it was most painful when he extended his arm to hand off, but that throwing isn't a problem. Continue to monitor Warner's status, but at this point expect him to be out of your starting lineup until Week 9 the earliest. When healthy, Warner can be a viable No. 1 Fantasy QB when the matchups appear favorable. Against the Redskins he would have been a No. 2 Fantasy QB.

I miss Gifford's Ice Cream, they were the best, Columbia Pike and Rte 7 Bailey's Crossroads.
Posted by: noone from tampa | October 17, 2007 11:55 PM
from the az papers
Warner experimented with braces in Wednesday's practice, trying to find something that provided stability while allowing him to throw and hand off with the least amount of discomfort.
"The huge key is trying to find the right brace," he said. "As much as I want it to feel good right now, it's going to take some time, too." It still seems more likely that Tim Rattay, who signed just last week, will start Sunday. And Tim Hasselbeck, who signed Tuesday, will be the second or third quarterback, depending upon Warner's health.
Whisenhunt said Warner could play a role in the game even if he didn't start. When Matt Leinart was the starter, Warner operated the no-huddle attack in three games.
"Obviously we're not afraid to put the player in there if he fits a role for us," Whisenhunt said. "I think that's what this week is about.
We're going to see how much Kurt can do, see if there is something he can for us in the game. After that, we've got to make a decision between the two Tims. I wish we had a clear decision, to be honest with you."

"...if the unthinkable happens and the Cards lose."
I looked in the dictionary and there's no way that "unthinkable" is a synonym for "routine".

Gotta hand it to King Card..At least he tempers his enthusasim with a dose of reality..Hes probably more on top of it than we think. True we have a world class D, but we waste opportunities and do fight ourselves and possibly will fumble or throw a pick (as we seem do do now with regularity) ..however.....Ratatouie will not beat us and we will win w/ D and special teams if needed..
Posted by: OC Skins | October 18, 2007 12:19 AM
King Card, when the Skins beat down desert dwellers I wont give you sh*t on the blog, why dont you just come up with a clever little Xmas/Channuka song stating how great the Skins are and how sorry the Cards have become..or still are!!! You know perhaps to the tune of Dradel Dradle Dradel/Or Silent night
Posted by: OC Skins | October 18, 2007 12:30 AM
i have to say this.....All of you are saying we will get blown out by the Pats...Sure that's possible...but look at it in another light...The Pats have NOT played a D like the Skins...so let's see how good that Offense really is....I know the Pats are a great team...we all know this...but do not sell the skins Short...In fact if our D is on top of it's game..we do have a shot! I firmly beleive that!
Posted by: Leevi | October 18, 2007 1:24 AM
What has become of our team? Rat is starting for the Cards and we are sh*ting bricks.
Can we at least stop giving the ball away!

How does King Card know more about the skins than the WaPo?
Posted by: M&M | October 18, 2007 4:55 AM
That's fair enough. If the Cards fall the wrong way (cute, if I do say so myself) I'll compose lyrics to Silent Night praising the 'Skins and bashing my beloved Cardinals. But whenever Carlos Rogers and two-a-carry Betts are on the field, we've got a fighting chance....
Posted by: King Card | October 18, 2007 9:05 AM
King Card......why the Carlos bashing....i mean he is better than say....both antrel rolle and rod hood
