It's Domino's! Anybody besides me ready for some fubball? I'm watching the game from London....they didn't show the dude who ran onto the field, so I'm guessing that perhaps he was unclothed. What's your prediction on Redskins-Pats?

Disagree on the Rockies. Spread some marmalade on 'em; they're toast. Sadly.
Posted by: Cindy | October 28, 2007 2:46 PM
I think this is gonna be a much closer game than everyone is expecting. The Pats are the overall stronger team, but if our defense steps up and we don't play conservative the whole (i.e.-- take some shots downfield to expose the 3-4), I think we can win this one, and I'm hoping for it.
Prediction:
Redskins, 17
Patriots, 14

Kevin Sullivan, our London co-bureau chief, is covering the game for us...He went out for coffee and missed the streaker, but reports that he had "a football over his end zone."

If they play like the Lions game, they lose by 10.
If they play like the Cards game, they lose by 34.

I'd love to drink the upset KoolAid, but I don't see the O keeping up. Lay a mortgage payment on the Skins plus the points, but I see something like 27-20 Pats.

Redskins 24 Patsies 21. NE get's caught looking ahead to Colts and Grilliams D steps up big.

Prediction:
Redskins, 3
Patriots, 38
Posted by: Joe Gibbs | October 28, 2007 3:04 PM
Can't see the Skins winning this one. Offense doesn't score because Gibbs won't let the offense open up and go down field. Getting sick of that conservative play calling. But whoever said something about the Skins winning on a last second FG: Have you seen the Skins kicker lately? If it comes down to a FG, I'd be pleased the Skins played a close game, but ultimately I'd be ticked because Suisham would miss it.
Posted by: Colin | October 28, 2007 3:06 PM
I luvs me a good upset, but I don't think this will be it. I think it may be close for the first half, but then the Patriots will put it away. My feelings are based on the notion that Belichick won't let the team let us this week; it's highly possible they have a letdown and get upended the week after they play Indy (they play Buffalo after their bye week).
Posted by: Cindy | October 28, 2007 3:06 PM
We always play up/down to the level of our compettion and we don't have to worry about blowing a comfy halftime lead today...

I was thinking the same thing-- I think they're going to use Lloyd a lot this game, perhaps Caldwell (is he active?), because there isn't much film of those guys. Lloyd has the speed to break one deep if they open up the play calling... they just have to let it rip!

News & Notes: Cartwright, Smoot Inactive
By Gary Fitzgerald Redskins.com October 28, 2007
As expected, kick returner Rock Cartwright has been deactivated for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.
Mild surprise: cornerback Fred Smoot was also deactivated. Smoot was limited in practice last week due to a hamstring injury. It's the third game this season that Smoot has missed due to the injury.
It's expected Smoot will be replaced by David Macklin and Leigh Torrence in three and four wide receiver sets.
Cartwright has been slowed by a quad injury suffered in last week's game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Ladell Betts and James Thrash are expected to return kicks in place of Cartwright.
Cartwright's absence will also be felt on punt and kick coverage units. Entering the Patriots game, he is second on the team in special tames tackles with 16;
The Redskins' complete list of inactive players is as follows: Smoot, Cartwright, defensive tackle Ryan Boschetti, offensive linemen Stephon Heyer, Rick DeMulling and Randy Thomas and wide receiver Reche Caldwell.

Hey Cindy, I'm aware of the blackout rules on the local sport pack for MLB,NHL,college, etc.
But why blackout the Redskins pre-game on Comcast Sportnet for out-of-markets viewers?
Just makes no sense, esp. when the show the post-game with no issue.

Hey noonefromTampa,

Posted by: Redskin Ray | October 28, 2007 3:41 PM
Cindy, you should have taken a quality control trip to London to ensure that the London bureau was up to the task. A stay at St. Martin's Lane or the Sanderson. An evening at "Equus" (complete with a nekkid Harry Potter). Dinner at Mr. Chow. Drinks at pretty much any pub. After a couple of nights, you would be able to determine whether or not your colleagues were up to the task.
Posted by: P Diddy | October 28, 2007 3:42 PM

Cindy:
I think the Rox are more likely to take on from the sox then the skins are of winning today . . .
somehow, can't get over that last shred of hope - as misguided as it may be - that the Rox can't play that badly again based on how they played to get to this point. . .
if the sox have 4 pitchers that can shut down that lineup, then congratulations, they really deserve to sweep . . .
as for the skins, just hoping to keep NE under 21, not exactly sure how manypoints the skins can score though, today I'd settle for seeing the grim reaper and LL have the game of their lives and for the D to continue to show improvement . . .

Snyder & Kraft
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
Redskins owner Daniel Snyder and Patriots owner Robert Kraft are chatting on the field as players are stretching in pre-game warmups. Both owners were in London this week, as the NFL promoted its game with the Giants and Dolphins playing there today. Now they meet up on the Gillette Stadium field.
Owners don't care who wins. As long as the product is great....

can Area51 lay some good pops on Moss deep, so he won't be wanting to come across.
As long as we are taking predictions:
I think our Skins need at least a +4 in the turnover battle to even have a chance.
If we go +4 regarding Turnovers I think we can keep them to 24 points.
However, I still don't know if we can then score 27 to win this thing.
So, I don't think we will go +4 and I don't see us scoring 27.

Cartwright biggest loss today. He was a true beast of a North-South returner.
How long did it take Beli to figure out our offense? 45 minutes?
Our Defense will do well. The obvious key to this game will be consistently moving the ball.
JC must be more accurate today. Those high throws of the past will be picked off today.

I expected the Patriots to come in and score on their first drive. This might be completely naive, but I expect the Redskins defense to stiffen as the game goes on (hopefully Rogers is OK).
Time for offense to step up!

this is going to be a long game.

Dear Jason
Moss 2007 = BUM
Please stop going to him
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 4:45 PM
And...three and out.
Posted by: P Diddy | October 28, 2007 4:45 PM
Me thinks Soups is telegraphing like Western Union on Christmas.
Posted by: sfskin | October 28, 2007 4:45 PM
They're all over our short stuff. We need to air it out a couple times or at least try.
Lets see if we can hold them on a drive now.
Posted by: bigfish | October 28, 2007 4:45 PM
Dang - can we hit somebody now??
And what is up w/ the reads by NE? nah - there's no reconnaisance there..
Posted by: Dik | October 28, 2007 4:46 PM
The anonymous Saunders haters are here already? After only one offensive series?
"Let's give him a fair trial, boys, and then hang him."
Posted by: talent evaluator | October 28, 2007 04:43 PM
How do you like the 3 and out? IDIOT
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 4:46 PM
Soups is scared. He'll settle in. Although....it may not be today.
Posted by: talent evaluator | October 28, 2007 4:46 PM
Bend don't break on this second drive.
Posted by: sfskin | October 28, 2007 4:47 PM
As long as Gibbs and Saunders keep insisting that Moss is going to turn the season around and catch some balls, the Redskins offense is going to keep sputtering.
Put someone out there that wants to play.

Hey Lisa!
Great series by the offense! Are you still standing by your comment this week the offense keeps improving???

Lisa will probably point to the fact that the offense DID in fact pick up 2 first downs on their first drive...
That's IMPROVEMENT in Lisa's book

I know injuries are normal part of football but sheesh we are CURSED!
Posted by: sfskin | October 28, 2007 4:48 PM
Dear Santa
I don't care if we lose....but please someone put Brady or Moss (preferably both) out for the season.
Thanks

Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 4:50 PM
Can we not wish for injuries? Yes, we should hope the team smacks Brady and Moss around. But "out for the season"? Come on now.
Posted by: P Diddy | October 28, 2007 4:51 PM
Hey folks - I imagine most of us don't think we can realistically win this game. And so we're hoping for a moral victory.
If it's gonna be a rough day any chance the cranky comments can be kept to a minimum during the game? Except of course when they make a play worthy of crankiness.
Posted by: sfskin | October 28, 2007 4:51 PM
We gotta drive...maybe quick passes, slants and hitches and quick hitting running plays?
Posted by: hailbg | October 28, 2007 4:53 PM
GREAT THROW ON 1st DOWN
JUST GREAT

Here comes Al's 699 pages of trick plays that never work
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 4:56 PM
If they are ever going to run the ball effectively this year, today would be a good day to start.
What is the deal with DeMulling? Inactive again? Guy must really stink with this o-line as banged up as it is.
Posted by: DS | October 28, 2007 4:56 PM
dang - can't waste opportunities like that against this team... yeah wind, but dang.
Hey Pdid - can we wish for a minor injury for like the game?? hahahaha
Posted by: Dik | October 28, 2007 4:57 PM
Another drop by Moss...
Campbell playing with no confidence. Can't blame the kid though. When you have an anemic game plan on offense and you have to go against Belichek defense....and you get Moss as your reciever and Portis as your RB.
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 4:58 PM
I bet they are wishing they signed Vincent instead of Demulling...
Demulling might have been in a system where they zone block before but Vincent is clearly a better guard.

There are no moral victories in the NFL. I've everywhere in the standings, and i've seen seen an M for moral victory. You either win or you lose. Moral victories are for losers.

Defense is giving me flashbacks to 2006 season.
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 5:05 PM
Number of touchdown catches by New England Linebacker > Number of TDs (BIG FAT ZERO) by ALL REDSKINS RECIEVERS COMBINED
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 5:06 PM
I guess Marcus is still inactive...put godfrey back in please
Posted by: RBD202 | October 28, 2007 5:07 PM
How can you not cover him?:? geez.
Posted by: Dik | October 28, 2007 5:07 PM
Hey guys...i know you have been criticizing me in the past for not playing 4 quarters of consistent football.
I have decided to consistently suck for all 4 quarters today.
Posted by: Joe Gibbs | October 28, 2007 5:08 PM
How much you want to bet Offense goes 3 and out again?
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 5:09 PM
Talk to me in the 4th SJKhole. In the meantime, keep your mom's pole smokin' money straight.

Your mom is already smoking Brady's pole...
At the rate Brady knocks up women, hes probably your dad
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 5:10 PM
Why does Dik want to talk to people in 4th quarter?
So he can brag about Redskins putting 3 pts on the board when the Patriots have already scored 42
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 5:11 PM
HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES DIK HEAD?
Nice Offense you got there
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 5:13 PM
At least we didn't have to punt
Posted by: Joe Gibbs | October 28, 2007 5:14 PM
DIK? DIK?
WHERE ARE YOU DIKKY?

Next series prediction
I predict Betts run the ball for 2 yard loss on 1st down
Moss drops a key pass on 2nd down
Campbell gets intercepted on 3rd down
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 5:16 PM
Just as I predicted...
Instead of Moss drop we got a penalty...but 1st down was Betts being a bum and 3rd down was interception

Shock The World!
Posted by: FR | October 28, 2007 5:34 PM
I think TBrady listened to our local sports radio shows talk about how the Skins were the only NFL team he hadn't beaten as a starter. DONT DO THAT AGAIN.
Who were these guys trying to pump up anyway?!
Lucky to have the Jets next. Except if we do win, it'll only shadow the the real problems of this team for another week.
